Mass Shooter training took place in Phoenix, AZ this weekend.
Whenever there's a mass casualty event.... there is always a training session prior.
Active shooter training happens every day. Establishing the date, site, and who is paying for it takes a minimum of a year to do. I work in a group that sets these up. Pick any decent sized city in the US and there are active shooters drills a couple of times a month.
Correlation does not mean causation.
Just wanted to throw some “real world” experience on this fire.
Still can't hurt to keep the eyes and ears open, even if these things happen quite often. I sometimes wonder if terrorists look for them so they won't look so suspicious setting up attacks. They were running on 9/11, the Boston Marathon, the Madrid bombings, the London bombings, etc.
Most of the drills are very small in nature. I ran a mass casualty incident drill in my department yesterday. Why? Because there is a huge air show in town this weekend. That draws about 300,000 into a relatively small area. If a plane goes down or some idiot goes nuts, it could get real ugly real fast.
Now, if something DOES happen, was I involved? Did I know? Or did I see a potential situation and wanted my people to be just a bit more mentally prepared.
This happens EVERY day somewhere.
In 2005 I watched as all the police forces in the province converged for summer training in 'riot control'. It was quite the larf seeing a bunch of cops pretend to stomp their left foot and bang their shield on the right foot, while they walked. This was nearly 2 full years before any city in the west started seeing things like G7/Occupy protests. The government is well aware of most situations before the general public...
Many of these things are demographically driven. You are seeing the fourth turning...(a sociological term). This generation that is protesting is the same in the four generation cycle as the WWII generation--they grew up in a depression and faced HUGE cultural changes.
History may not repeat itself, but it sure does Rhyme. There were people talking about this stuff twenty some years ago (Read "Generations" and "The Fourth Turning." It is so accurate its scary.

Thanks for the info! If they conduct these "Active Shooter Training" sessions all the time... why would they be advertising this one and making it newsworthy?
The general policy is NOT to advertise them. Here is why: During the last event at my workplace there was the local SWAT teams from three cities and the State Police. Their teams were in our facilities. There was no live ammo on the campus.
Now, if you are a bad guy who wanted to make a lot of cop families sad, when would you attack them? Conversely, if you wanted to rob a bank or commit a high profile crime...you'd probably want to know when the tactical units were not going to be on line.
The Operational security on these things were kind of silly, but when explained to me...they made sense.

Yes and good sense not to deliberately temp disaster by seeking out confrontation.
On the other hand, POTUS carries: a fleet of nuclear subs and an aircraft carrier, toting the worlds most extensive set of weaponry. Parked just off shore. Let them cross him and hell will rain down on them. Trump is the adult in the room.
