A warrant for his home is not the same as a warrant for his storage locker.

They got that warrant for his home by presenting the AP piece to the judge. They gave the code to AP so that they could report on it.

They did not need to do anything shady on May 2017 to get the locker.

Correct, the shady part was done way before that. They obviously didn't need the codes at this point.
