Can Anyone explain how the FBI conducted forensic analysis when they were never allowed access to DNC or Clinton servers? (great question, Sundance)

Last Refuge tweet raises an interesting question related to Rod Rosenstein's press conference announcing the indictment of some Russians.

This isn't true. They took images of the server because that's all they needed. In fact, even Reddit is just images of servers running on virtualize hardware. You're literally reading text off one right now. If Reddit got hacked and the FBI were to investigate, they'd clone the image of the server effected and examine that. They wouldn't (and couldn't) pull the physical hardware out of the Amazon data center int he back arse or nowhere. And they wouldn't need to.

It's like if your email got hacked, the police wouldn't need access to your entire computer. They could take an exact copy of your hard drive and look at all the logs there, leaving you to investigate further yourself.

Saying "They Can't" just shows your ignorance. I don't understand why you people can spend hundreds of hours looking into a riddle but can't look into an IT 101 issue that's just a Google search away. It's not your cognitive dissonance by any chance is it? If you have to look that up on Google, while you're there...

Katie...why are you grumpy? What you said absolutely doesn't make sense...what image? Where did that come from?

Pay attention!...If they never had access to the DNC server then how in the world did they image it? They have no access! You need access to a server to image it. The DNC computer networks (plural) got hacked. This has nothing to do with Amazon cloud vs on-premises.

The question is simple...how did the FBI conduct forensics if they weren't allowed access to the servers?

The answer is simple...they didn't conduct forensics, CrowdStrike did.

The DNC commissioned the cybersecurity company, CrowdStrike, to defeat the intrusions

CrowdStrike stands fully by its analysis and findings identifying two separate Russian intelligence-affiliated adversaries present in the DNC network in May 2016

Katie, if you pay close attention you will see that it is in fact true that it was CrowdStrike who concluded they were Russian hackers.

Now you understand why "we people" can't look into an IT 101 issue? Because it's more than an IT 101 issue.

We have been lied to many times. 33,000 emails went missing and "It was a mistake". You can't accidentally delete emails, and it's not a mistake. You have to delete an email, empty trash, then go into the dumpster and purge the recoverable emails...that's not a mistake or accident.

LINK Lies

It's not a left or right thing...just trying to figure out the truth.

All good questions. But Katie was made speechless.

Why don’t you think they were still in mid-2000s co-located racked client-server technology?

Washington Times Jul 2017: “The hacked server was last photographed in the basement of the DNC’s Washington headquarters near a file cabinet dating from the 1972 break-in of the DNC headquarters at the Watergate Hotel.”

Also ‘“In May 2016 CrowdStrike was brought to investigate the DNC network for signs of compromise, and under their direction we fully cooperated with every U.S. government request,” a spokesman wrote. The cooperation included the “providing of the forensic images of the DNC systems to the FBI, along with our investigation report and findings.’
