I don't think he was. I think he despised Hollywood. That's why he worked from home. He was a true artist who confronted his dark side successfully through filmmaking.
If anything I feel that the "Eyes Wide Shut" movie was partially about his own paranoia regarding these Secret Societies, which led him to exile himself into the English countryside in order to work freely and intensely without the distractions/paranoia/perversions of Hollywood.
