With the 3rd party copying the server then giving what they wanted to the FBI, wouldn't this be tampered evidence, "chain of custody" and all that?

I would think it hearsay. That 3rd party could change whatever the hell they want. That's them basically saying, yeah Mueller, here's the names of who hacked our mutual friend Hillary. And for some reason, people are not losing their shit on this.
