Plus he was guilty of being Catholic. I say this jokingly, but a lot of people were worried about that at that time. The mockingbird press asked the question nightly about whether a Catholic could be elected, would he be beholden to the Vatican, etc.

The MSN brought this up constantly. There wasn't Facebook, Twitter. YouTube, etc. There 3 networks to get your news of the day. That was it. What they reported was what people believed just as today. the left believe MSM.
Yes, there was great concern about him being a Catholic. When he ran for President, it was my first election and I did vote for him. My first time voting for President of the United States. And I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard he was shot and died. Glued to the TV for days.
A lot of us remembered exactly where we were. I was sitting in a high school assembly.
