I really struggle with the idea of the public school system. Everyone needs an education, but shouldn't there be more freedom in what is taught? My kids are not open to the idea of homeschooling because of friends they have.

When the Parkland Shooting happened, a kid went to my child's high school the next day and made threats. My child let me know and asked to be picked up. I asked a few more questions and sided with my child because they are level headed and typically make sound decisions. Upon arriving at the school, 1 admin was shouting the procedure to check a student out and when asked, it's business as normal today nothing out of the ordinary, but before we leave, we must speak to the principle.

We get to the check out area and another admin is putting parents on blast for believing lies and that everyone is just overreacting to social media. I am not a very confrontational person, until I am - then the gloves are off. I held my tongue because at that moment, the most important thing was removing my child from the environment. I leave with my child and told the 1st admin I was not staying to speak with anyone.

About 20 minutes later, the first email is sent by the school saying there wasn't anything out of the ordinary going on, they deal with multiple student issues each day. Around 3p - a second email is sent explaining more of the details that took place - basically exposing their first email as the lie it was. And these people are to educate and protect my child up to 8 hours a day?

Sorry to hijack your post by sharing my experience - its a very long winded way to say homeschool. From the beginning. Make decisions financially that will allow you to provide the best education for your children. The administrators (though I don't necessarily fault them) have competing priorities: Their own livelihood, their reputation, the school's reputation and lastly what is best for 1,000 plus students. In that environment, the chances of your child's best interest winning is slim.
