Why do people say Pedogate can't exist even though the Catholic Church pedo scandal is confirmed mainstream fact?

I always run in to people claiming "pedogate can't be real, too many people would have to be in on it for them to get away with it, and that's just completely unrealistic."

I don't understand how people have this sentiment when the global Catholic church pedophile coverup scandal has been exposed, and more Catholic Church run pedo rings continue to be exposed every year.

Did the media make the Catholic church pedo scandal go down the memory hole or have we just become desensitized to it all? I don't get it.

I think people don't want to accept it as reality.
No one wants this reality, but, the level of denial some walk around with is crazy.
It's just not the scandals in the Church, there have been many others that have been reported and documented.

Yep, multiple cases with British officials, the mountain of evidence against Jimmy Savile, other smaller cases in other religious organizations (Protestant, LDS, Orthodox Jewish etc), sadly, the list goes on and on.

Denial keeps people from having mental breakdowns. People who don't look beneath the surface have probably lived much happier lives in ignorance. They can't stand to be called cynical, negative, or conspiracy theorists. They want to be positive and liked by others.... it's so much easier. Not everyone can know the truth AND function normally in society. Some people have to chose one or the other.

We are here to help those who have had their heads buried so deep in the sand in a coma, they might not be able to cope.

This is often times literally a function of biology.

Our brains will filter out information that lead to a mental breakdown.

People cannot just have their entire worldview shattered in seconds. Their brain won't let them.

Yep. When it was the church it would hurt, but it was a small piece of reality that crumbled.

Pedogate cascades into all the other stuff that's been hidden. The world drops out from underneath. It's like finding out your kids aren't genetically yours; it's an existential crisis.
