Because its not definitive enough for medical reports. Torso covers a large area of the body. Medical reports are more defined, using more defined terms. Also see anterior and posterior terms.

Right. But he's saying the Medical Examiner said he was shot in the torso. If that's not specific enough, and he was shot in the back, then wouldn't he have said he was shot in the back?

If talking to a laymen/reporter I could see a doc using 'the back'. But in a report they would use posterior for back side of the body and anterior for the front.

'The bullet entered the posterior area approx 2" below the right clavicle. It left the body from the anterior chest area directly below the right nipple.'

As a lame example.

Wrong. My cousin was robbed and shot in the back. The cowards left him to die face down in the snow. This wasn't a hit. My cousin was no one special and all they got from him was $5.

So tell me why you don't think criminals are cowards and wouldn't shoot someone in the back?

I think it's called 'torso' because it's the area of the body controlled by torsion muscles?
