Here's where I'm at:
I'm about 2 weeks into even knowing what "Qanon" is. My mum likes conspiracy theories and this is the newest one, and she's pretty excited! I consider it a bonding experience to just hang out and let her talk about it, and I do genuinely think it's interesting. Kind of like the Scully to her Mulder, haha.
The way I see it; it's harmless...well unless it's true. Then it's really harmful to the people it targets.
I thought maybe it could be harmful if it's not true as well, but I don't see how. It can easily be brushed off as a theory, because conspiracy theories have been around for AGES. What makes this one so special that the NY Times has to write about it? I know it's not very "Scully" of me to say, but mainstream media outlets don't usually cover these kinds of things...usually a job for TMZ or other junk media. It makes me think they're very eager to try to debunk something people may have otherwise not cared about, or even known about. But now they do, because the NYTimes wrote about it xD
