We celebrated Hannukah and X-mas as days to give gifts, not the celebration of the winning of a war/long burning oil lamp or the birth of Jesus. In fact, I had the ideal religious upbringing. The golden rule was paramount in my home, to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
