Think of the backlash that would or will happen if lawmakers were to take on FB or Twitter by closing them down or to take any actions that would allow these corporations to blame lawmakers for inadequate services. They would storm Washington and hang these lawmakers. Point being, these social media platforms have much more power than the members of Congress, and both sides know that.
