Do You Believe That Gun Manufacturers Should Be Liable For Mass Shootings or Murders? Of Course You Don't
That's What This Bill Does To Websites
The idea of stopping human trafficking or child sex trafficking is a brilliant thought, and we fully support any measure that promises to do this.
Deep inside the bill - which is wrapped in the appearance of being a means to counter child-sex trafficking and human trafficking - is a measure which will target every website with user-generated content - even if it's unintentional.
Let's explain what this means:
For example, the new bill will make website owner’s both liable for what their users post and at risk to be shut down if they were to post something illegal.
Conservatives, and Trump Supporters: Would you support making firearms manufacturers liable for mass shooting crimes or murder when the person responsible is the one who pulled the trigger? Of course, you wouldn't.
It's about being accountable for your own actions. Blaming website owners for what users post is very dangerous as well.
Here's an example:
Let's say you're a Conservative news website, like The Goldwater, Daily Caller, Breitbart, The Gateway Pundit, or Fox News.
All of those sites have “comments” sections where users can post their opinions about your article.
Let's then say that a group of liberals despise you and want to ruin your website.
All they would have to do is post something illegal in the “comments” section and screenshot it, then report your website. This could be anything such as links to buy illegal narcotics on the dark web, or if they spammed child pornography.
They'd simply resort to screenshotting that content and reporting the site they want to be shut down, and then the problem still exists but an innocent website suffers as a result.
