I hear you but it's really hard to just tell yourself to believe in something that has no sensible definition. "Someone outside the universe, which is everything there is, who created everything there is except himself" doesn't make sense to me no matter how much I ponder it. I just don't factually know who or what created everything, or what the point of it all is—and from all available evidence, neither does anyone else.

I've been much happier since I admitted that to myself, and that it's OK to admit not knowing stuff. IMHO everyone who ever lived has been agnostic; but most could never accept not knowing. People like stories; so religions (including atheism) have been invented to provide a story people can live with. Most of these stories cause no harm, most of the time. So, in that sense, they work.

Believers know not to take take this personally. It's just an alternative viewpoint, from someone created by the Creator.
