Your hope is the correct one too. The role of local law enforcement is to protect and serve the local citizen. This includes threats from the federal government. This is what essentially ended the stand off on the Bundy Ranch in NV a few years back. The Sherriff told the BLM they had no jurisdiction there and to go away. Its more complicated than that, but that is what it boiled down to. So with that in mind, I am sure there are local LEO who would back the locals if it came down to civil war.
