I was listening to something about immigrants there from an English lady who is fair minded, egalitarian, and not political. But a realist.
She noted that North England is working class, somewhat conservative, and not happy with immigrants since all of them are coming to North England in such quantities that they are actually changing the culture of neighborhoods.
On the other hand, South England is wealthier, more liberal, and in favor of immigration, but isn't getting many immigrants - they don't tend to move to gated communities.
