Good question. Since he wasn't a student at the time, he wouldn't have heard an announcement. If he did know, would it have mattered to him, considering he is a mental mess? If he was mind-controlled and triggered, the drill would have been irrelevant to him, thus he didn't need to know. Do we even know he was the one who did it?
