That's a lot of words to say "this is actually only the prototype of exactly what people think it is".
I'm not panicking. I'm just saying that article's sole defense is that this is only a trial for the system they plan on including later, and if someone already hates that concept, it's not going to calm anyone down. As for me, I just have to no faith in it actually fixing anything, and it looks to be an easy way for people to ramble on about the "evils of gaming", now with medical backing to do so. I don't think I've ever seen someone with a "videogame addiction" that wasn't a total fuckup in every other aspect of their life.
Like, does anyone think nutjobs like Cosmo or Chris-chan would be fixed if they got a diagnosis for videogame addiction? People have perfectly good reason to see this as total bullshit.
A lot of people want him pulled from youtube, and I can see why. Youtube's always been an obvious mess with who it pays and why but the whole debacle has set it in stone that you can do anything you want once you pass a click threshold, and anyone else can go get fucked. I think it's a moot point, since anything they do at this point would be empty gestures, but him getting in hot water by the Japanese government over this would be fucking hilarious. They do not want this kind of shit happening before the Olympics.
I guess it's just a matter of perspective then, since I love watching stupid shit like happening and the worse it escalates the better. I don't think there's much point in actually getting emotionally involved over it, but it's fun to watch his hordes of 12 year old fans fighting on twitter.
