IMO:

  • Asian countries are pushing it to try and neuter a billion dollar industry in the west. They know it won't kill it, but they have a little less competition when they sell games using engines & studios they own (darn fun China is now being more open to foreign vidya, and showing off their work. It's like if alcohol or smokes were gonna have more severe health warnings, and China started showing off all their booze and tobacco)

 

  • The fact even the ESA is trying to push back from this- a group who did jack shit for lootbox gambling- means they're fucking scared.

 

  • The "hazardous gaming" could be wildly abused. (A) Taking behavior that is deemed bad due to SJW and claiming gaming caused it. and (B) Taking assholes that do bad things and happen to play games, and claim the game caused it. All so the "media changes your mind" argument can appeal to the authority of the World Health Organization.

  • Makes devs scared to put certain mechanics into games, fearing bad PR if a nutcase does do something. 99.999% of your audience well adjusted people? Doesn't matter. The MSM will run stories on that individual to run your company into the ground (sort of what they tried to do with D&D and the sewer murders, but to no effect). Maybe a politician will even call for a ban on a game that's recently been mentioned for brownie points with certain voters. Even if it doesn't pass, more bad PR, less investors, less creative freedom for fear of being branded a maniac creator.

So, less sexy things because a rapist played your game- no matter how long or how often (or if the box was planted in his home). Less combat because a murderer had an internet search history showing he looked up the game's trailers and gameplay. He didn't actually play it- but that's how bad gaming is guys!

I think it's more than clear even if the WHO doesn't intentionally want to use this to kill off gaming (or "the wrong kind of gaming"), someone will.

IMO, dealing with WHO is like dealing with Youtube/Google. Both have mammoth warchests, but are deathly afraid of bad PR and the money fountain slowing down.

Possible plans of action:

> Dig and Create infographs mocking and informing the public. Put them in ALL gaming related hashtags and ALL mental health related hashtags. Don't play nice, get in people's faces about it. The goal of this is to reduce volunteer donations, and cause bad PR internationally- until it becomes a talking point amongst politicians.

< Infograph (A) - Anti-Chinese. Show evidence of Chinese lobbying for gaming addiction, and how their own "treatment centers" end up killing people- all the while buying out Unreal 4, and trying to get their games into the west. Paint it as China trying to kill their competition in an underhanded way. Then anti-China hype is still big amongst US patriots and Trump supporters.

< Infograph (B) - Defamation. Expose the biggest fuck-ups the WHO have made on mental health before, their own staff being hypocritical, and/or money being a bigger motivator than actual health. People only trust faceless organizations because they know nothing about them. Make it a talking point, and it'll become memetic to hate that group- much like the excessive health & safety regulations of the EU (and far worse crimes in recent history).

< Infograph (C) - History. Show how other hobbies have had psychos pinned to them by a busybody politician or body, and it didn't stick due to overwhelming common sense; sick people will do sick things, sane people won't. Then draw comparisons to what the WHO are doing now. This appeals to gamers (old and new) and those who might have other reasons to loathe those pinning shit they didn't do onto them.

< Infograph (D) - Anti-SJW. While it'd be preaching to our own, a lot of people are turning against the hard left whackjobs. Show how they've been going after gaming, and how the WHO's decision could mean that instead of claiming gaming makes you crazy, that everyone who games is already crazy. Not to mention the violation of freedom and danger it proposes to brand someone as insane because they like something. Appeals to the right, pro-trump; and as it says, anti-SJW.

< Infograph (E) - Slippry Slope. Show them how South Korea and China deals with Gaming Addiction. The social pariah it makes you, how it affects your credit score, how it affects your chances at a job, and how those who are "treated" go through hell. It's not fear mongering, it's a possibility. If smokers and drinkers are less likely to get organ transplants, why shouldn't other "soft" vices also have some restrictions. Clearly, anyone who games is a waste of a human being. Appeals to gamers and those who have been falsely branded over addictions or obsessions they didn't have.

> Request your government ask about it, and explain your concerns. A politician will say and even do whatever they believe will give them votes or PR. So give them a story they can run with- big bad WHO trying to brand healthy patriotic consumers as insane because they enjoy their hobby. You're not asking for them not to do it, but they need careful guidance to ensure they don't over-step their mark. After all, they wouldn't want the whole US/European/[your country here] gaming industry to collapse and harm the economy. BAM, you've told them it's pro freedom, pro consumer, pro economy, and they don't have to stop it, they just have to make demands and wag their finger- all bad PR for WHO again. Call/email your senator or equivalent.

> Request Youtubers you like cover this topic. A short video is easier to pass around, and something about videos just makes fuckers click it rather than read an article or text on an image. If they spoke against SJW, bad game journos, or for artistic freedom- odds are that'll be good. But don't be afraid to try big youtubers as well. The more eyes we get on this the better, right now it's only known to a limited part of the gaming community. If you get someone like DeFranco or PewDiePie, then it blows up too fast for WHO to effectively PR, as people ask stuff. And hasty answers can be used to hang them later.

  • Organize a protest near the tournament/convention.

  • Actually co-ordinate with police so that you are in a place you can legally gather. I.e. X feet from the building and all that. Use that to repel any staff that tell you to leave. I think a major issue is that the PR and the localizers try to talk down the allegations and try to interpret them incorrectly for the people. Some japanese devs are cucks though. Regarding OP Dicktionary, it’s not really an active task, more of a passive one. I did it so that people could understand the connection between the words we use and how they affect our thought process, as well as the importance of gradation in language, so we can measure things out in varying degrees instead of a dichotomy similar to the Good Ungood dynamic in 1984. It’s a red pill to swallow, if you so choose. Unless you guys have anything you want to do with that information (pass it along to one of our journo friends and get a conversation about our changing linguistic dynamics going for instance), I would say to take it off. The general rule of thumb is that passive tasks don’t take up space in the Current Tasks section. Or if you want to compromise, just stick it in the discussion section. Whatever you do, one of you need to save the links for me, because I’m not gonna be able to hold onto them. And if you’re a true autist, copy paste whatever posts are missing from the /pol/ archive to the 8diamonds thread.

I meant to post this days ago but keep forgetting. I found this guy in second life, he's a lefty running a parody account of Trump. Still beating the "Russians!!1!" drum. His whole account revolves around Trump. He made this account shortly after Trump's inauguration. His group only has 7 members.

 

It really does astound me just how much antifa/commie/anti-Trump/#RESIST shit I find in second life. I see little to no Trump stuff, or even republican stuff in general. And I've NEVER found anything GG, sadly. I take it it's because second life is generally played by pathetic socially awkward losers with nowhere else to go. I'm aware of the irony. Many of them are…broken, and best avoided.

 

Like, one of the main reasons I still play second life after all these years is because it's played by broken nutters. These broken nutters have access to build tools and they build some crazy shit. Most of its cringe, but once in awhile you find a place built by a rain man and it makes the rest worth it. And it's fun to drop into their communities and listen in on them. Through it all I've gotten a feel for the people that play this game for genuine purposes, and they're nuts. So maybe it's a good thing I don't see much Trump/republican stuff, or GG stuff.

I downloaded the game. I didn't realise second life a reputation when I decided to give it a shot, but learned for myself that the people there are nuts. But I enjoy it, so I continue playing it.

I will say this though, 99% of the people that play it play it for the social aspect. They find little gay furry communities and shit and hang out there all the time.

I just explore and find neat stuff, and occasionally build neat things and upload neat models I find online.

I only play it when I have no other vidya to play though

This might be something of interest, Valve was recently caught banning accounts on Steam from their Source-based games through GNU/Linux usernames and hostnames (not Steam usernames). This began an uproar on GitHub (https://archive.is/h1wVs), where a Valve employee accidentally confirmed this to a group of cheaters who originally found the horrid and very broken method of detection.

Knowing that details about VAC should be never publicly disclosed, the damage has been done, and many news websites began to report about it (PCGamer and Polygon did a laughable bad job talking about the group of cheaters who found out the issue, as expected). Soon after, another Valve employee (that currently works with the VAC team) dismissed the company's previous words (https://archive.is/DbudG) and the ban mechanic soon vanished, two days after it has been reported.

Currently, it has been found out new VAC modules that were reporting to Valve sensible user information, such as GNU/Linux usernames, user IDs, group IDs, user working directory and shell, hostname (nodename), system name, versions of kernel and release (solid proof is present at this decompiler dump: https://archive.is/zWs22). Other than this issue, the general public now refuses to believe such thing is happening, thanks to the previous Valve employee calling it a "tactic employed by cheaters to try and sow discord and distrust among anticheat systems".

 

Quick tl;dr: Valve deploys a new and very false-positive mechanic for cheat detection, admits doing such, and later refuses that anything has ever happened. Later on, new VAC modules were caught snooping through system and user information without being previously disclosed, and is ignored because of general public believing on a Valve employee's words through (((Reddit))).

Anyway I started reading about it and it's literally nothing but the same fucking anti discrimination law that is literally in place in every western nation except now they have to have stricter audits in place otherwise they'll get fined bla bla. Logan is easily one of the most recently hated youtube personalities, so many normalfags are using this as an excuse to do so even more. I don't really have a problem with that, though I don't think what he did warrants mainstream coverage here in the States.

Another big issue is Youtube themselves. There's no better example of how Youtube as a platform likes to play favorites then this stunt. Monetized, wasn't even flagged, and only took down by Logan himself because of the backlash. There's no way any other account would have gotten away with that video and Youtube let it slide. This is what people should be focusing on & to really pressure Youtube on that angle.
