For anyone who is curious what I meant last bread about "good bakers", here's a list of what I consider good vs bad baking habits

1. breadshitters in the bread is a sign that a baker is taking too long to bake. the baking process should be extremely quick. a veteran baker once got it down to 20 seconds. if you take too long, you will have many bread shitters and the bread will look moldy.

1. spelling mistakes and lack of capitalization in notables makes them look shitty, poor quality, and difficult/less desirable to read. same with formatting errors and typos of any kind in the dough.

1. notable titles/descriptions should be accurate i.e. reflect what the notable is about, even if the anon doesn't give you a title or a nomination doesn't include it. good bakers skim every single post, which means you can't bake while you're cooking dinner or watching a tv show, unless it's slow night shift. baking requires your full undivided attention.

1. good bakers don't repeat notables, which means they have to catch up on prior notables before picking up the bake. this unspoken rule has been broken so much the past year or so that i think anons/bakers don't even expect it to be followed anymore. but it used to be a thing that if you posted "old news" it wouldn't get put in notables. this board used to be the first place anons would see their news bc an anon would post it within seconds of it being published elsewhere, and then it would be disseminated everywhere. same with digs. only new, original digs or theories that add something to the discussion would be put in notables. this created healthy competition among anons and a desire to do better in order to have your work reach the entire board.

so to summarize: a) good description/title that gets anons to want to click the notable and that DOESNT obfuscate what the notable is about (shill baker tactic) 2) new/original notables and 3) selectiveness with notables

1. good bakers communicate with anons about changes made to the dough and about notables. good bakers maintain a good baker-anon relationship. baker's opinion is 1 out of 100+ anons in a bread and if several or many anons disagree with baker, it is expected that the baker defer to anons, always. back in the day of course there was more discussion around what should go in notables, now anons don't really give a fuck but that doesn't negate any of the above.

1. good bakers also are able to follow discussions in a bread, not just news articles and be able to see what other anons miss: the 1-poster that dropped a great graphic or theory or dig, a small high-IQ discussion of 2 or 3 anons etc. if bakers don't pay attention, or only add things that have been nominated, or are multitasking while baking, these things get missed entirely. it's a shame when this happens with good digs that take anons a lot of time to put together, discouraging autists. good bakers encourage autists. good bakers ask for more sauce if sauce is incomplete and watch anon theories as they are developing throughout the bread.

1. good bakers follow handoff protocols so that it's clear there has been a change in bakers. good bakers don't avatarfag or namefag to bring attention to themselves. good bakers are mostly seen and not heard unless it's a slow night shift. they're not here for the glory, to shitpost, or for the attention. they're not here to post music videos with anons. they're here to work. of course when they're off duty they can do as they please but not when they're baking. if you're constantly fucking up, shitposting while you're baking, leaving out good notables or obfuscating them with shit descriptions, fucking up bread #'s, and making baking about YOU then you're a shit baker. a good way to tell if a baker is paying attention is by their bread titles. if some huge happening is habbening and your bread title is "comfy night shift" you don't know what you're doing or what is happening.

1. bakers are not here to socialize with other bakers, create cliques, make baker boards, or discuss baking outside of the board where anons and board staff can see. bakers are anons. once bakers stop being anons, human drama takes over. he said-she-said bullshit. that shit has no place in baking.

many of these things were unspoken conventions among bakers. those conventions and standards have since gone down the toilet. just my 2 cents.

yep i agree with this 100%. i learned to bake in a very trial-by-fire kind of way. literally. Q was posting and we had no baker. i jumped in and did what i had to do. it's really important to get the basics down but these days i also think anyone interested in baking should at least be told that the basics aren't all there is bc that's what creates laziness and complacency. but yes agree 1000% with you. if you care about your job, you learn the nuances on your own eventually anyway.

breadshitters happen to anyone. you get "body too long" error or 100% loading error. shit happens. but when you have breadshitters in every single bread you bake you're baking too slowly and not timing your bakes properly. if you bake too close to the end of the bread, this is what happens. fact of life, cry more.
