Trump establishes citizen 'hotline' to report vote fraud and abuse

The Trump campaign has launched a hotline and will soon post a website to allow people to report election-related fraud and abuse. "We are going to keep fighting for this election because that is what the American people deserve," campaign manager Bill Stepien told reporters on a phone call. The campaign installed a hotline in the lead up to Election Day, but it is being "re-upped," Stepien said, allowing people to "voice their complaints and their concerns." He added that the website would launch Thursday. Beyond a slew of lawsuits, the Trump campaign is deploying top campaign officials and Trump allies across the country. “Donald Trump is alive and well," campaign manager Bill Stepien told reporters on the call.

Trump had been relatively quiet on Twitter since Wednesday, but resumed apace late Thursday morning, tweeting, "STOP THE COUNT!" shortly after 9 a.m. A further half-dozen tweets appeared in quick succession, along with a campaign statement attributed to him. “IF YOU COUNT THE LEGAL VOTES, I EASILY WIN THE ELECTION!" Trump wrote in the statement. "IF YOU COUNT THE ILLEGAL AND LATE VOTES, THEY CAN STEAL THE ELECTION FROM US!” Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller reprised an earlier projection that Trump could be reelected by the "end of tomorrow, on Friday." New vote counts are expected Thursday in Nevada, where Biden has an 11,000-vote lead with 76% reporting, as well as in Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. "We still have confidence in Pennsylvania — our data tells us that we are winning by more than 200,000 votes,” Stepien said. Trump is cutting into Biden's lead in Arizona and expects to win Pennsylvania, he said. "Not quite as many ballots as we expected came in Arizona last night," added Miller, but he stressed they were "on pace" to win the state regardless. "Some of the blue counties is where we've been having some of our best gains," Miller said. Miller also called on Fox News and the Associated Press to "reverse and rescind" their decisions to call the state for Biden "immediately." On the call, deputy campaign manager Justin Clark accused a "left-wing political machine of trying to steal the vote," praising a Pennsylvania ruling early Thursday that he said would allow Republican ballot observers to watch the vote count from up close.

Election staff take ‘day off’ in PA county with 35K ballots to count

Election staff in Pittsburgh’s Allegheny County, one of Pennsylvania’s most populous areas, are taking a day off from counting ballots Thursday, despite the fate of the presidential election hanging in the balance with more than 35,000 mail-in votes left to tabulate. A large number of additional in-person provisional ballots — estimated at up to 15,000 — won’t be counted until “later tomorrow or early next week,” Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said at a Thursday afternoon press conference. But Fitzgerald, a Democrat, said workers aren’t kicking back and relaxing and blamed a federal court ruling and state law for the day without progress. “There’s no day off for the workers in the election board,” he insisted. “They’re preparing for tomorrow, organizing the tables, moving things around, bringing things from the warehouse over to the county office building where this process will begin to take place.”

Fitzgerald said the majority of uncounted absentee ballots — roughly 29,000 — can’t be reviewed until Friday due to a federal court ruling. The case involves the Cleveland-based Midwest Direct contractor sending faulty paperwork to voters, requiring it to be reissued. The firm reportedly has flown Trump flags at its headquarters. “At this point, there are approximately 35,000 mail ballots that are to be looked at. In that 35,000 ballots to be looked at, 29,000 ballots have been ordered by federal court to not be handled or processed until five o’clock on Friday,” Fitzgerald said. “We also have another 6,800 ballots that have — I’ll call them other issues, they got damaged in the mail, they got damaged or cut during the opening, the cutting of the machine process. Maybe there wasn’t a secrecy envelope, dated issues, etc, etc. Those are going to be looked at starting tomorrow at nine o’clock, again by state order. We have to swear in a return board tomorrow morning.”

Another approximately 500 absentee ballots arrived by mail on Wednesday, with an unknown number arriving Thursday, he said. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court allowed ballots to arrive through Friday to count, but Republicans say the decision should be overturned. Another large source of uncounted votes — of an unknown size — is in-person provisional ballots, which also will be reviewed by the country review board being sworn in on Friday morning. “There are also provisional ballots that people were casting at the 1,323 polling places as they voted on Election Day. These would have been ballots that would be somebody who applied in the mail and maybe didn’t get their mail ballot, or for whatever reason showed up and voted provisional. In the spring primary we had about 5,000 provisional ballots that were cast. I estimate there could easily be double that or more. So you could have between 10,000 and 15,000. But we just don’t know,” Fitzgerald said.

The delay drew frustration in the pivotal swing state. “They aren’t counting any ballots today! They stopped last night and are taking the day off,” Bethany Hallam, a Democratic Allegheny County councilperson, wrote on Twitter. Hallam told New York Times reporter Trip Gabriel, “I can’t get an answer as to why,” inflaming partisan tensions. Pennsylvania’s slow counting of absentee ballots has kept the presidential race in limbo. President Trump leads by more than 135,000 votes in the state, but mail-in ballots are breaking for Democratic candidate Joe Biden. Trump’s path to re-election dimmed this week with apparent losses in Michigan and Wisconsin. Other swing states remain contested, including Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada and Arizona, where margins are narrow and many votes are not counted. The Trump campaign on Thursday said it won a court ruling allowing access to monitor some vote counting processes in Pennsylvania, which Trump must win to retain the White House if projections in other states are accurate.
