Idaho nixes Powerball lottery over foreign inclusion

Idaho did away with its Powerball lottery on Wednesday after a proposal to allow other countries to participate.

Idaho’s House State Affairs Committee shot down legislation that would have changed Idaho’s current law that only allows lotteries in their state played by those from the U.S. and Canada, the Associated Press reported.

Powerball is expanding and letting those in Britain and Australia play, which would make selling Powerball lottery tickets illegal by Idaho law. The legislation was meant to nix the law so the state could continue selling Powerball lottery tickets.

The legislation was voted down 10-4 with Republicans and Democrats wary of allowing other countries into the fold.

Idaho Lottery officials argue that this could hurt state revenue and affect the amount of money the school system in Idaho would receive, which draws from the lottery.

Powerball lottery tickets give the state $28 million in sales and $14 million of the money made from those sales go to schools.

“My concern is the delegation of authority, and essentially turning over our sovereignty to this Multi-State Lottery Association,” Democratic Rep. Chris Mathias said. “I think we should be concerned that they could be persuaded, they could be lobbied heavily by countries that we are not particularly friendly with.”

Jeff Anderson, director of the Idaho Lottery, tried to tell lawmakers before the vote that countries like China won’t ever join the Powerball lottery, according to the Associated Press.

“What we’ve got is 32 years of Idahoans being able to participate voluntarily in a lottery game of their choice,” Anderson said after the legislation was struck down. “Thirty-two years it’s been OK, now it’s not. It’s very troubling.”

The last Powerball drawing will occur in August.

Parents of Russell Gould, 30, whose adherence to the philosophy of David Wynn Miller has landed him in trouble with the law, say their son has been "brainwashed," and they want to take him back to their Wyoming home while his court case is pending.

Dane County Circuit Judge William Foust declined to let Gould out of jail immediately, but he did lower Gould's cash bond from $30,000 to $12,000, a sum that Stella and Bruce Gould may be able to come up with if they choose to mortgage their house.

Still, as their son left the courtroom he looked at his parents and said, "Don't you ever post bail for me."

It was the latest chapter in local courts of the organization Miller, of Milwaukee, calls the Unity-States of Our World, which has its own language and own legal system and whose adherents, like Gould, have been arrested here for serving phony lawsuits on public officials.

A year ago this month, two other members of the strange group, Jason Zellmer, 23, of Oconomowoc and Janice Kay Logan, 46, of Catham, Ill., went on trial here for serving phony legal papers on the police and court officials involved in Zellmer's arrest and prosecution on a disorderly conduct charge stemming from a fight outside a campus area bar. Gould would have been the third defendant in the case, but he had not been arrested.

At the trial both Logan and Zellmer chose to speak mostly in the language called "The Truth," an invention of Miller which is supposedly based on mathematics and maritime law. It has a puzzling syntax, with meanings of words changing depending on what word is used before them. Speakers of "The Truth" also use punctuation in a strange way and pronounce each punctuation mark.

All of that caused a certain amount of mirth and humor among those who witnessed last year's trial, but the feelings expressed by Gould's parents Thursday were those of desperation and despair as they sought ways to free their son from Miller's grasp.

"I believe he is brainwashed," Stella Gould said of her son, adding that "his bizarre behavior in court has embarrassed me."

Gould sat quietly at counsel table as his parents spoke, not looking at them but occasionally shaking his head. In previous court appearances he has insisted on reading lengthy writings in the language of the Miller followers, often continuing when judges have told him to quiet down.

"Russell has been seven years with David Wynn Miller, and he has different beliefs about the legal system," his mother said. "He acted according to David Wynn Miller's teachings." She also blamed Russell Gould's hunger strike in the jail on Miller. "He's told him not to eat; he's told him not to participate," in the legal system. "David Miller has led him astray and right now he can't find his way out," she said.

Bruce Gould had even harsher words for Miller and his philosophy. He said he talked to a man who was supposedly a follower of Miller's but found the man was anything but. "When I finished my conversation with him I knew Russell was in big trouble," he said. "What he told me made the hair on the back of my head rise."

"He is a very dangerous psychopath," said Bruce Gould of Miller, "as dangerous as James Jones." Although he said he was not contending Miller would lead followers to the same kind of mass suicide Jones and his followers committed in Guyana in 1978, Bruce Gould said Miller "has the same type of control."

Miller has been in court for nearly all of the appearances of his followers, but was not in court Thursday.

In last year's trial he described himself as the king of Hawaii as well as the head of the Unity-States of Our World.

The Goulds said that in recent weeks communication with their son, who has been both in jail and Mendota Mental Health Institute, has improved and they want him to return to Wyoming.

Foust said he sympathized with the Goulds' efforts to "deprogram" Russell, but was not prepared to release him on a signature bond. His trial is set for late May.

Although a warrant had been issued for his arrest, Gould apparently managed to travel with Miller to Europe last year. He was not stopped either leaving the country or returning, despite the existence of that warrant and increased border security. In addition, he claims he has no passport.

Traditional Americans view the Second Amendment as one of the most important in the Bill of Rights. It is a part of American culture; a unique individual right of self-preservation and protection that is now either nonexistent or heavily restricted in most other nations.

Over the past several years, as the woke cultural revolution intensified, conservative conversations focused on the Second Amendment as the final defense against the tyranny that may result as progressives march toward authoritarian-style government. In response, right-leaning and independent-minded citizens have shown up at protests to exercise those Second Amendment rights by posturing with firearms and assorted tactical equipment. Regardless of the prudence involved in such actions, we are now treading on new ground.

Following the November 3 election and subsequent January 6 protest at the Capitol, the current regime set out to eliminate political opposition by casting them as “white supremacists” and “domestic extremists.” They intend to use the legal authorities, tactics, and techniques that were previously employed against Al Qaeda and ISIS against those ordinary Americans who refuse to accept the ruling elite’s political ideology.

Simply put, the most deadly counterterrorism machine from the world’s most powerful country is coming for you. You, ordinary American, are the target. Now is not the time for impotent tough talk and posturing with weapons at protests. The Second Amendment, and all of our rights, are critical to a free society, and we should seek to understand how best to exercise and defend them from authoritarian factions of the ruling elite. This is the time to get smart on how to counter this assault on liberty and avoid falling into the traps the ruling elite are setting for traditional America.

The Biden regime is not a sustainable political entity. It cannot continue to exist in its present state because it will collapse under the weight of its own spectacle. If the regime’s enforcers can get traditional Americans to look like they are about to commit violence, then they can justify the passage of the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act and can implement draconian gun control policies. Once they’ve attained the legal authorities to neuter their political opposition, they can move to further isolate them under the guise of national security.

Keep in mind that agents provocateurs and government informants are now a part of the political landscape. The regime wants to restrict or eliminate constitutional rights it deems problematic, including the Second Amendment. Don’t make it easy for them by following their agents provocateurs. Those who continuously espouse violence are poseurs and provocateurs. Government informants are paid to lie for their handlers. Treat both of them like any other undesirable character and walk away.

Remember the old Russian proverb: “Three men sit down to talk about revolution. Two are police informants, and the third is a fool.”

Traditional Americans can win this battle, but they need to be smart about it. They should understand the tactics that the regime will use and not fall into the trap that is being laid. We, traditional Americans, can do this by using a layered defense-in-depth that capitalizes on nonviolent political action.

There is a certain kind of personality that is attracted to Washington, D.C. That personality may be vain, self-serving, power-hungry, and even psychotic, but the one thing it will always do is try to position itself next to the winner, the one with the power. Dumbing down is the deliberate oversimplification of intellectual content in education, literature, and cinema, news, video games, and culture. Originated in 1933, the term "dumbing down" was movie-business slang, used by screenplay writers, meaning: "[to] revise so as to appeal to those of little education or intelligence".[1] Dumbing-down varies according to subject matter, and usually involves the diminishment of critical thought by undermining standard language and learning standards; thus trivializing academic standards, culture, and meaningful information, as in the case of popular culture.

In the late 20th century, the proportion of young people attending university in the UK increased sharply, including many who previously would not have been considered to possess the appropriate scholastic aptitude. In 2003, the UK Minister for Universities, Margaret Hodge, criticised Mickey Mouse degrees as a negative consequence of universities dumbing down their courses to meet "the needs of the market": these are degrees conferred for studies in a field of endeavour "where the content is perhaps not as [intellectually] rigorous as one would expect, and where the degree, itself, may not have huge relevance in the labour market": thus, a university degree of slight intellectual substance, which the student earned by "simply stacking up numbers on Mickey Mouse courses, is not acceptable".[3][4]

In Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling (1991, 2002), John Taylor Gatto presented speeches and essays, including "The Psychopathic School", his acceptance speech for the 1990 New York City Teacher of the Year award, and "The Seven-Lesson Schoolteacher", his acceptance speech upon being named as the New York State Teacher of the Year for 1991.[5] Gatto writes that while he was hired to teach English and literature, he came to believe he was employed as part of a social engineering project.
