Judge Dismisses Planned Parenthood Challenge to Texas Sanctuary City

Lubbock is largest city to adopt pro-life law

A federal court smacked down Planned Parenthood's attempt to thwart a Texas city from declaring itself a sanctuary for the unborn.

Northern District of Texas judge James Wesley Hendrix dismissed the lawsuit, ruling that the nation's largest abortion provider lacked the jurisdiction to challenge the law. "Because the ability to remedy a plaintiff's injury through a favorable decision is a prerequisite to a plaintiff’s standing to sue—an ability absent here—the court dismisses the case for lack of jurisdiction," Hendrix wrote.

On May 17, Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas filed a lawsuit to stop the Lubbock ordinance from going into effect on June 1. It declared that the city would automatically outlaw abortion if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade. "It shall be unlawful for any person to procure or perform an abortion of any type and at any stage of pregnancy in the City of Lubbock, Texas," the ordinance says. Lubbock, with a population north of 250,000 people, is the largest city in Texas to adopt such a ban.

The Lubbock ordinance empowers private citizens to sue any abortion providers suspected of performing abortions after the overturning of Roe. This places the responsibility for enforcing the law in the hands of private citizens, not the local government. Hendrix left open the possibility for further legal review of the ordinance but declined to intervene to stop it from taking effect.

The move opens another front in the war over state laws restricting or expanding access to abortion; 25 other cities in Texas have adopted similar "sanctuary city" ordinances. The ordinances have been modeled after Democrat-run cities that clashed with the Trump administration over becoming sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants. Additionally, 10 states have passed "trigger" bills that will outlaw abortion if Roe is overturned. The ruling also comes days after the Texas state legislature passed such a trigger bill.

Both the ACLU and Planned Parenthood said they will appeal the decision. "In spite of this ruling, we will continue to fight to protect the rights of all Texans," said Adriana Piñon, policy counsel and senior staff attorney for the ACLU of Texas. She added that the ordinance is unconstitutional and the organization is "disappointed" in the judge's ruling.

"Planned Parenthood and the ACLU of Texas will continue fighting to ensure that every person in Lubbock has access to the health care they need and deserve, including abortion," said Alexis McGill Johnson, the president and CEO of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. "Despite this disappointing ruling, the fight isn't over. We remain committed to doing everything in our power to overturn this unconstitutional law."

Emails show Fauci made urgent inquiry about gain-of-function research as pandemic began

U.S. infectious disease chief Anthony Fauci made an urgent inquiry about controversial gain-of-function research in February 2020 as the coronavirus was beginning its deadly spread from China across the world, according to official government emails forced into public view this week.

The emails obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by The Washington Post and Buzzfeed News are likely to add new evidence to the growing debate over whether the Wuhan Institute of Virology near the epicenter of the pandemic was engaged in gain-of-function research that made the coronavirus more infectious to human and whether the pandemic started with an accident in the Chinese lab.

The emails obtained by Buzzfeed include one dated Feb. 1, 2020 in which Fauci appears to make an urgent request to his top deputy Hugh Auchincloss, the principal deputy director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases that Fauci has led for decades.

"It is essential that we speak this AM," Fauci wrote. "Keep your cell phone on. … Read this paper as well as the e-mail that I will forward to you now."

"You will have tasks today that must be done," Fauci added.

Fauci's email came several hours after he received a message from Kristian Andersen, an immunology professor at Scripps Research Institute, in which Andersen relayed assessments from both himself and several of his colleagues that the SARS-Cov-2 virus looked "potentially" engineered.

Andersen and several of his colleagues “all find the genome inconsistent with expectations from evolutionary theory,” Andersen wrote to Fauci, while acknowledging that there was “still further analyses to be done” on the matter before a determination could be made. (Several weeks later, Andersen and several researchers would claim in a research paper that SARS-Cov-2 is "not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus").

The paper to which Fauci refers in his email to Auchincloss was not available in the FOIA data dump, but the attachment was visibly titled "Baric, Shi et al — Nature medicine - SARS Gain of Function." The title appears to be a reference to Ralph Baric and Shi Zhengli, two coronavirus scientists who have figured prominently in suspicions that the Wuhan lab may have played a role in the pandemic.

The Chinese and many researchers insist the COVID-19 virus evolved natural from the wild and not from the Wuhan lab, but the Biden administration acknowledged in recent weeks there is growing evidence an accident or leak from the lab may have started the pandemic.

In an immediately subsequent email on Feb. 1, 2020, Fauci forwarded Auchincloss a Jan. 31 article from Science magazine, one that detailed scientific efforts at "mining coronavirus genomes for clues to the outbreak’s origins."

$800,000 In Stimulus Checks Stolen By Venezuelan Ring: Police

Federal authorities arrested a Venezuelan, 34, for stealing stimulus checks

He was arrested in May and is being held without bond

Four other co-conspirators could also face charges

Federal authorities have accused a ring of Venezuelans of stealing more than $800,000 worth of stimulus checks from the U.S. government, a report said Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors said a group of Venezuelans who live in South Florida and Mexico stole hundreds of stimulus payments issued by the IRS and cashed them in using “fraudulent” documents, according to the indictment.

Authorities have since charged Jesus Felipe Linares Andrade, 34, with conspiring to steal the government’s money. He is also facing charges of identity theft. The case is the first of its kind in Florida, according to the Miami Herald.

Federal prosecutors in South Florida said that four other people who conspired with Andrade could also face charges.

Andrade was arrested in May after he was caught in an undercover FBI operation in which he and his co-conspirators created fake identification documents that corresponded with the names of people who were supposed to receive the checks, the report said.

“During the meeting, Linares placed an envelope in the vehicle containing over $150,000 in stolen U.S. Treasury checks and over 30 identification documents,” according to a criminal affidavit filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Berger. "The identification documents consisted of copies of driver's licenses, including Florida driver's licenses. Some of the names on the driver's license matched the names on the checks."

In January, an FBI informant met with one of Andrade’s conspirators with an offer of cashing in 30 checks worth $36,000, the criminal affidavit stated. Then in April, Andrade picked up $249,000 worth of stimulus payments from two FBI informants at the Miami International Mall in Doral.

The meetings with the informants continued through April. The checks stolen totaled more than $800,000. Each of the checks was worth $1,200 and was addressed to different recipients in Mexico. In the deal, the informants sought 30% of the checks as a fee.

The FBI said it did not cash any of the checks. Instead, it provided money that represented funds from the cashing of the checks. Some of the funding was wired to Andrade through Zelle, a banking app.

Andrade has since pled not guilty to all charges. He is currently being held without a bond.

As the discussion surrounding the release of emails from Anthony Fauci ripples through the media, we should all consider carefully the consequential ramifications of the discussion upon our nation. At the heart of the current debate is a question about whether the SARS-CoV-2 virus originated from a bio research lab in Wuhan China. An article in Vanity Fair magazine provides some stark background to contemplate:

A report in Vanity Fair details actions by some members of the U.S. State Department to block efforts to investigate the origins of the coronavirus because the inquiry could open “a can of worms.” An internal memo sent to department heads by Thomas DiNanno, former acting assistant secretary of the State Department’s Bureau of Arms Control, Verification, and Compliance, warned “not to pursue an investigation into the origin of COVID-19.”

The “can of worms” in question was the extensive funding by the U.S. government into the Wuhan Virology Lab’s “gain-of-function” virus research. It’s unclear whether DiNanno was concerned that an investigation would uncover evidence of a lab leak or the extent to which the U.S. was funding dangerous research.

Indeed, there’s a lot more going on with this gain-of-function research than has ever been revealed. There appears to be a powerful lobby within the U.S. government that is heavily invested in the dangerous research and is serious about keeping it quiet. Signed by 27 scientists, the statement expressed “solidarity with all scientists and health professionals in China” and asserted: “We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin.”

That was enough for the American media, which was in no mood to give Donald Trump a break in reporting on the virus. But why dismiss a hypothesis when no one had gathered any evidence of how the virus originated?

Then came the revelation that the Lancet statement was not only signed but organized by a zoologist named Peter Daszak, who has repackaged U.S. government grants and allocated them to facilities conducting gain-of-function research—among them the WIV itself. David Asher, now a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, ran the State Department’s day-to-day COVID-19 origins inquiry. He said it soon became clear that “there is a huge gain-of-function bureaucracy” inside the federal government.

Former CDC Director Received Death Threats From Scientists for Supporting Wuhan Lab Leak Theory

Former U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Robert Redfield said he has received death threats from fellow scientists after saying he suspected that the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus originated in a Wuhan laboratory.

Redfield told Vanity Fair in an interview published Thursday that he received a significant amount of backlash after he told CNN earlier this year that he is a proponent of the theory the virus leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in Wuhan, China, contradicting the official narrative espoused by the CCP.

Saying he was “threatened and ostracized because I proposed another hypothesis,” Redfield told the magazine that he “expected it from politicians. I didn’t expect it from science.”

Redfield noted that some death threats came from individuals who thought he was being racially insensitive, but other threats came from prominent scientists, whom he did not name.

In March, Redfield said that it is “not unusual for respiratory pathogens that are being worked on in a laboratory to infect a laboratory worker,” noting that he’s “spent [his] life” studying viruses.

“Normally, when a pathogen goes from a zoonot to human,” he added, “it takes a while for it to figure out how to become more and more efficient in human to human transmission.”

ISIS Claims Responsibility For Deadly Bombing In Afghanistan’s Jalalabad

ISIS has claimed responsibility for a recent bombing which killed two people and wounded ten others in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province.

The bombing, which took place on June 2, targeted a convoy of Afghan security forces in the area of Bargeno in Jalalabad’s PD4 district.

Second Thessalonians 2:9-12 speaks of a strong delusion God will send in the end times: "The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

First, it is clear this strong delusion will take place during the time of the lawless one (2 Thessalonians 2:8), also called the Antichrist or beast elsewhere in Scripture (Revelation 13). He is the one Jesus will kill with "the breath of his mouth" (2 Thessalonians 2:8; Revelation 19:15).

Second, God sending a delusion is only part of the account. Two other aspects are clear. Satan is involved (2 Thessalonians 2:9) and this delusion applies to those "who did not believe the truth" (v. 12). It is incorrect to simply say God tricks these people. Instead, those who are influenced by Satan and do not believe are among those who accept the delusion God will send into the world during this time. God desires for all to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4).

Third, this strong delusion will also be during the time when many will rebel against God. Second Thessalonians 2:3 says, "For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed." The Antichrist will arise and many will join him in rebellion against God.

Fourth, people will be fooled during this time by Satan's power and false miracles. Second Thessalonians 2:9 states, "The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders." In Revelation 13:3-4 there is another prediction that this will occur. The Antichrist will appear to die or come close to death, yet be healed: "One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast. And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, 'Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?'" Many will be tricked into worshiping the Antichrist as a result.

This strong delusion God will send is something that will serve as part of God's overall judgment of the earth during the seven-year tribulation period following the rapture of believers to heaven (1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Those who remain on the earth will live under the tyranny of the Antichrist, experience many judgments, and many will believe in the Antichrist and worship him. Yet even today many reject Christ and believe the lies of Satan. God calls us to confess Jesus as Lord and believe in Him as the resurrected Son of God (Romans 10:9). Only then do we experience the changed life Jesus gives and escape the lies of Satan.

Of the various brewing biological crises of our time, the issues of declining biodiversity and emerging disease are among the most complex and far-reaching. In many respects they are also different sides of the same coin, a perspective that is central to the new field of conservation medicine. The product of a growing coalition of conservation biologists and ecologists, wildlife veterinarians, and biomedical researchers, conservation medicine explicitly addresses the interlinked and transdisciplinary nature of many of today's most urgent health and conservation issues.

The field is being advanced most forcefully by researchers associated with the recently establishedConsortium for Conservation Medicine(CCM). Originally established in 1998 within the School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, CCM consists of three partner organizations representing the veterinary, wildlife conservation, and human health components of conservation medicine. Collaborating withTufts are Wildlife Trust, a US-based wildlife conservation organization, and the Center for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard Medical School.

The advent of conservation medicine is timely. In this era of widespread environmental degradation, declining biodiversity, and emerging diseases in both humans and animals, many medical experts and conservationists agree with conservation medicine's defining theme: The concept of health—for both humans and animals—must be understood in an ecological context. One of the aims of conservation medicine is to formalize and advance this multidisciplinary perspective.

“Health connects all species on the planet,” said Philip Kosch, dean of the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, in introducing a special symposium on conservation medicine at the June 2000 meeting of the Society for Conservation Biology in Missoula, Montana. Erie Man Admits Distributing and Possessing Sexually Exploitive Images of Children

ERIE, Pa. - A former resident of Erie, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of violating federal laws relating to the sexual exploitation of children, Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman announced today.

Jeffrey Adam Jepson, 39, pleaded guilty to two counts before United States District Judge Susan Paradise Baxter.

In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that Jepson distributed sexually explicit photos depicting a minor victim under the age of six to an undercover officer. Jepson also possessed other images of child sexual abuse depicting minors under the age of twelve, some as young as infants and toddlers.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. Judge Baxter scheduled sentencing for October 14, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. The defendant has agreed to a 12-year sentence to be followed by 20 years of supervised release. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, the District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department and the Erie County Detectives Bureau conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Jepson.

Judge sentences registered sex offender to more than 20 years on child pornography charges

CAPE GIRARDEAU – United States District Judge Rodney W. Sippel sentenced Justin A. Williams to 270 months in prison today. The 29-year-old Cape Girardeau resident pleaded guilty, in December, to one count of receiving child pornography.

Williams admitted using the internet to solicit sexually explicit material from a 14-year old female from the state of Washington in December 2019. At the time he committed the offense, Williams was already required to register as a sex offender because of his 2015 state conviction for first-degree child molestation from the Circuit Court of Scott County. According to court records from that case, Williams sexually abused a six-year old female relative in 2014. Williams was released from the Missouri Department of Corrections just months before committing the federal offense.

After serving his 270-month federal sentence, Williams will be placed on supervised release for the rest of his life. Williams will also be required to continue registering as a sex offender.

This case was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Jack Koester is handling the case.

Fauci’s Boss Admits Funding Wuhan Lab: ‘We Had No Control Over What They Were Doing.’

Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the National Institute for Health (NIH), appears to have directly contradicted his underling Dr. Anthony Fauci in a bombshell moment from an interview with Hugh Hewitt yesterday.

Well, we, when we give a grant, Hugh, it has terms attached to it of what it is that the grantee is supposed to be doing with those funds. And we require annual reports to see whether that in fact is what they have been doing. And we trust the grantee to be honest and not deceptive. The grant funds that went to Wuhan, which were a subcontract from Eco Health, were very specifically aimed to try to categorize viruses that they could isolate from bats in Chinese caves, which we had a good reason to want to know more about, given SARS and MERS that had come out of there. And so we basically had those criteria attached to the grant. And of course, the amount of money that we were providing to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, I’m sure, was a tiny fraction of their total funding. And we had no control over what else they were doing with those funds. That’s another thing we’d like to know more about, and an investigation might potentially tell us.

Collins goes on to admit that the Chinese Communist Party is, in fact, involved in the Wuhan lab, but attempts to play down their influence.

In truth – as The National Pulse has revealed – the lab hosts communist study sessions in order to boost “party spirit” and fealty to the Chinese Communist Party.

When asked if the NIH would collaborate with other human rights abusers and tyrannies such as North Korea, Dr. Collins replied, “Probably not,” before adding:

I think you’re demonizing the Wuhan Institute of Virology as it is pure and simple an instrument of the Chinese Communist Party. There are certainly connections there, but let’s be clear. There are scientists working in that institute who are amongst the best in the world in terms of understanding virology. And many of those folks have had long-term relationships with others in other countries, including the United States, with a lot of respect, a lot of shared information. Former Youngstown Area Physician Sentenced to 22 Years for Sex Trafficking Minors

Acting U.S. Attorney Bridget M. Brennan announced that Albert Aiad-Toss, 53, of Canfield, was sentenced today by U.S. District Court Judge Pamela A. Barker to 22 years of imprisonment, lifetime supervised release, a $50,000 fine and a special assessment of $40,800. Aiad-Toss, a Youngstown-area physician at the time of the offense conduct, previously pleaded guilty to seven counts of sex trafficking of a minor and one count of child exploitation. This case is the District’s largest juvenile sex trafficking prosecution to date.

“Juvenile sex traffickers like Aiad-Toss prey upon our most important resource – our children,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Bridget M. Brennan. “Through the collaborative efforts of the Ashland Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office and our office, law enforcement has once again demonstrated our unwavering commitment to holding traffickers accountable and protecting our children. The young victims in this case bravely and courageously shared their experiences and certainly prevented other young girls from being similarly victimized.”

“The sentence today is the culmination of months of hard work by multiple law enforcement agencies to bring this offender to justice,” said Christopher Tunnell, Ashland County Prosecutor and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney. “We are sending a unified message to anyone perpetrating crimes against our children that no matter who you are, we will bring every resource at our disposal to bear upon you, and you will be made to answer for your crimes.”

"The abuse of a child is both despicable and incomprehensible," said FBI Special Agent in Charge Eric B. Smith. "Aiad-Toss, using his position of trust, admitted to engaging in sexual acts with minors. As a result, Aiad-Toss will be serving a significant and just sentence in federal prison. Law enforcement will continue our unceasing efforts to protect our most precious resource, our children."

As set out in court documents, between June 1, 2019, and June 29, 2019, Aiad-Toss used the online application Snapchat to entice, recruit and patronize six minor female victims, all between the ages of 12 and 15, to engage in sexual conduct with him by providing them with money, alcohol, new clothes and other items of value. He specifically budgeted $2,000 per month to be spent on obtaining young girls for sexual exploitation.

To avoid detection, Aiad-Toss targeted young girls in Ashland County, which was approximately 90 miles away from his home in Youngstown, to avoid being seen by anyone he knew. To further avoid detection, he typically arranged for the girls to enter hotel rooms through a side door rather than through the main entrance.

Many of Aiad-Toss’ encounters involved more than one of the juvenile victims meeting him in a hotel room at the same time. On June 15, 2019, surveillance video obtained by investigators show Aiad-Toss inside a hotel with three juvenile victims. Additionally, investigators located an image taken on June 17, 2019, depicting Aiad-Toss in a vehicle with three juvenile victims.

Aiad-Toss’ conduct also included the exploitation of another child by using Snapchat to entice and receive sexually explicit images and videos.

Aiad-Toss was arrested on July 5, 2019.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Ashland Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ranya Elzein, Acting U.S. Attorney Bridget M. Brennan and with the assistance of Ashland County Prosecutor and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Tunnell.

Ensure that U.S. investments are not supporting Chinese companies that undermine the security or values of the United States and our allies: This E.O. prevents U.S. investment from supporting the Chinese defense sector, while also expanding the U.S. Government’s ability to address the threat of Chinese surveillance technology firms that contribute — both inside and outside China — to the surveillance of religious or ethnic minorities or otherwise facilitate repression and serious human rights abuses. It signals that the Administration will not hesitate to prevent U.S. capital from flowing into the PRC’s defense and related materiel sector, including companies that support the PRC’s military, intelligence, and other security research and development programs; or into Chinese companies that develop or use Chinese surveillance technology to facilitate repression or serious human rights abuse. Tackling these challenges head-on is consistent with the Biden Administration’s commitment to protecting core U.S. national security interests and democratic values, and the Administration will continue to update the list of PRC entities as appropriate. At the same time, the E.O.’s prohibitions are intentionally targeted and scoped.

The President listed the following 59 entities as subject to the E.O.’s prohibitions. Section 1. Policy. Corruption corrodes public trust; hobbles effective governance; distorts markets and equitable access to services; undercuts development efforts; contributes to national fragility, extremism, and migration; and provides authoritarian leaders a means to undermine democracies worldwide. When leaders steal from their nations’ citizens or oligarchs flout the rule of law, economic growth slows, inequality widens, and trust in government plummets.

In financial terms alone, the costs of corruption are staggering. It has been estimated that acts of corruption sap between 2 and 5 percent from global gross domestic product. While such costs are not evenly shared worldwide, the abuse of power for private gain, the misappropriation of public assets, bribery, and other forms of corruption impact every country and community. The proceeds of these acts cross national borders and can impact economies and political systems far from their origin. Anonymous shell companies, opaque financial systems, and professional service providers enable the movement and laundering of illicit wealth, including in the United States and other rule-of-law-based democracies.

Corruption threatens United States national security, economic equity, global anti-poverty and development efforts, and democracy itself. But by effectively preventing and countering corruption and demonstrating the advantages of transparent and accountable governance, we can secure a critical advantage for the United States and other democracies.

In issuing this National Security Study Memorandum, I establish countering corruption as a core United States national security interest. My Administration will lead efforts to promote good governance; bring transparency to the United States and global financial systems; prevent and combat corruption at home and abroad; and make it increasingly difficult for corrupt actors to shield their activities.
