The Dirty War on Syria: Washington Supports the Islamic State (ISIS)

Reports that US and British aircraft carrying arms to ISIS were shot down by Iraqi forces (Iraqi News 2015) were met with shock and denial in western countries. Yet few in the Middle East doubt that Washington is playing a ‘double game’ with its proxy armies in Syria. A Yemeni Ansar Allah leader says ‘Wherever there is U.S. interference, there is al Qaeda and ISIS. It’s to their advantage’ (al-Bukaiti 2015). However key myths remain important, especially to western audiences. Engaging with those myths calls for reason and evidence, not just assertion.

There is no doubt that the Arab and Muslim peoples of the Middle East hate the terrorist monstrosity called ISIS, ISIL or DAESH.

Polling by the Washington-based Pew Research Centre found that 99% of Lebanese, 94% of Jordanians and 84% of Palestinians had an ‘unfavourable’ view of ISIS. As Lebanon’s constitutional system requires sectarian identification it was also found that 98% of Lebanese Sunni Muslims rejected ISIS (Poushter 2015). That latter finding discredits the common western assertion that ISIS somehow springs from Sunni communities. Less than 1% in Lebanon, 3% in Jordan and 6% in Palestine viewed the banned terrorist group favourably. The remainder did not express an opinion. Of all Syria’s neighbours, Turkey had the lowest ‘unfavourable’ view of ISIS, at 73%; the favourable score was 8% (Poushter 2015). The aim of this chapter is to help clarify what role Washington has had in creating or turning loose this Frankenstein’s monster.

Washington maintains two closely linked myths as regards terrorism in the Middle East. Then there is a ‘fall-back’ story.

The first ‘existential myth’ is that, from 2014, the US became engaged in a war against extremist terrorists, in both Iraq and Syria. This followed several years of trying to topple the Syrian Government by backing illegal armed groups, which it calls ‘moderate’. Through this myth the US claims to be playing a protective role for the benefit of the peoples of the region. The second myth is that there is a significant difference between the ‘moderate rebels’ the US arms, finances and trains, and the extremist terrorists (DAESH or ISIS) it claims to be fighting.

These claims represented a shift in the rationale for the war on Syria, from one of ‘humanitarian intervention’ to a revival of the Bush era ‘war on terror’. The ‘fall back’ story, advanced by some of Washington’s domestic critics, is that US practice in the region has created a climate of resentment amongst orthodox Sunni Muslim communities, and the extremist groups emerged as a type of ‘organic reaction’ from those communities to repeated US interventions. This story hides the more damaging conclusion that Washington and its allies directly created the extremist groups.

However there is little point in simply asserting that last version, without evidence. The ‘existential myth’ of a western war on terrorism is so insistent and pervasive, and backed by such a commitment in political capital, arms and finance, that it is very difficult for western audiences to accept this new ‘war’ might be a charade. Further, diplomacy requires that stated policy positions be pursued to their logical conclusions, and that the aims be tested. For these reasons I suggest we should document the key elements of evidence, on Washington’s relationship with the sectarian terrorists. After that we can draw better informed conclusions.

It is certainly true that prominent ISIS leaders were held in US prisons. The Afghan recruiter for ISIS, Abdul Rahim Muslim Dost, spent three years in the US prison at Guantanamo (Bienaimé 2015). ISIS leader, Ibrahim al-Badri (aka Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi) is said to have been held for between one and two years at Camp Bucca in Iraq (Giovanni 2014). In 2006, as al-Baghdadi and others were released, the Bush administration announced its plan for a ‘New Middle East’, a plan which would employ sectarian violence as part of a process of ‘creative destruction’ in the region (Nazemroaya 2006). While there have been claims that al-Baghdadi is a CIA or Mossad trained agent, these have not yet been backed up with evidence.

Rep. Thomas Abernathy read this passage into the Congressional Record on June 7, 1957 (Vol. 103, p. 8559, top of page.) Wikipedia tells you Abernathy read the quotation in a letter to the Editor of the Washington Star, and the newspaper subsequently determined it was a hoax and apologized. "The quotation has retained some popularity among racists and anti-Semites to this day," Wikipedia chortles.

I have subsequently added this line to the Wiki entry: "However, the author fits the description of Israel Cohen (1879-1961) a prolific Zionist author who wrote the Foreword to Israel Zangwill's "The Schnorrers" as well as 30 other books. Like many purported "hoaxes," the quotation does describe events as they subsequently unfolded and the operations of the US Communist Party." This information was immediately removed by Wikipedia.

Moderna Launches Flu Vaccine Trial, Targets Single Jab For Multiple Diseases

The onset of a flu vaccine trial using messenger-RNA (mRNA) technology could lead to a single jab targeting multiple respiratory diseases, including COVID-19, vaccine maker Moderna said on Wednesday.

Moderna’s goal of making a single vaccine against multiple viruses was included in a press release announcing the onset of a phase 1 study of mRNA-1010, the company’s seasonal influenza vaccine candidate. The company said it plans to enroll 180 participants in the trial.

"Respiratory combination vaccines are an important pillar of our overall mRNA vaccine strategy", the release said. "We believe that the advantages of mRNA vaccines include the ability to combine different antigens to protect against multiple viruses".

Conventional vaccines use all or part of a modified pathogen to trigger an immune response. In contrast, the mRNA - used in both Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 jabs - instructs cells to produce copies of the spike protein on the coronavirus surface. The protein then causes the body to develop immunity.

Messenger RNA vaccines offer a number of advantages over traditional inoculations in that they can be quickly designed and scaled up, using a manufacturing process that is highly adaptable to different pathogens, according to the National Institutes of Health.

LGB people 'more likely to have mental health issues'

Lesbian, gay and bisexual people are more than twice as likely as heterosexuals to have a long-term mental health condition, an analysis of NHS data suggests.

They are also more likely to drink heavily and smoke, the report says.

About 2% of people said they were lesbian, gay or bisexual in the 2011-18 Health Survey for England.

The findings "confirm well-established health inequalities for LGB people", say rights groups.

Of the adults surveyed over the eight years, 1,132 or 2%, identified as lesbian, gay or bisexual. Participants weren't asked about trans status or gender identity, but this is being considered for future surveys.

About 16% of LGB respondents reported having a long-term mental or behavioural disorder, compared with 6% of heterosexual adults.

LGB people also reported lower average mental well-being scores than heterosexual people, with LGB women having the lowest score of all groups.

They were also more likely to drink more than the recommended units of alcohol.

One-third of LGB adults drank more than 14 units of alcohol a week, an amount which "put them at increased or higher risk of alcohol-related harm", compared with a quarter of heterosexual people.

The proportion of people who drank no alcohol was similar among white people of different sexualities, but among ethnic minority communities, LGB people were more likely than heterosexuals to drink.

Who are the smokers that haven't quit?

LGB people were also significantly more likely to smoke. This includes one in three LGB women, compared with one in six heterosexual women.

But they were less likely to be overweight. Nearly two-thirds of heterosexual adults reported being either overweight or obese, compared with half of the LGB population.

"This data confirms well-established health inequalities for LGB people, such as much higher rates of mental ill-health, as well as highlighting less well-known health inequalities impacting our communities," said Eloise Stonborough, associate director of policy and research at campaign group Stonewall.

"Understanding the specific health disparities for lesbian, gay and bi people is a crucial step in being able to address them and ensure that the NHS is providing a healthcare service which supports us all. To continue capturing this data, it's important that all health services monitor and report on health outcomes for all lesbian, gay, bi and trans people."

The analysis was conducted by the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) for NHS Digital, based on a representative sample of over-16s who took part in the Health Survey for England between 2011 and 2018.

The data adds to existing research indicating some health outcomes are worse for LGBT people.

An LGBT Foundation report found one in six LGBT people said they drank alcohol almost every day over the past year in 2017, compared with one in 10 across the wider population.

With the Summer Olympics in Tokyo set to begin later this month, the Japanese government has acquiesced to growing public pressure to declare another state of emergency in Tokyo as the number of new COVID cases has continued to climb over the past month, even as vaccinations have accelerated.

The order is Tokyo's fourth emergency decree since April 2020, and comes after the Tokyo confirmed 920 new cases on Wednesday, the capital's highest daily tally since May 13.

Tokyo had lifted the previous state of emergency on June 20, though the metropolis has since been under a "quasi" emergency order that's set to end on Sunday.

The new state of emergency is set to remain in effect from July 12 until Aug. 20, covering the entirety of the summer Olympics.

On Wednesday, Tokyo's municipal government asked the central government to strengthen its infection control measures - which have notoriously included a temporary ban on alcohol sales at restaurants to anybody who isn't drinking alone - if the quasi emergency is extended.

While Japan has been considering allowing up to 10K domestic spectators at each Olympic event, the new state of emergency means spectators will likely be barred from the competition.

PM Yoshihide Suga has previously said that a new emergency order would likely include a ban on spectators.

Among the most disturbing political phenomena of our times is the emergence in the newly created state of Israel of the “Freedom Party” (Tnuat Haherut), a political party closely akin in its organization, methods, political philosophy and social appeal to the Nazi and Fascist parties. It was formed out of the membership and following of the former Irgun Zvai Leumi, a terrorist, right-wing, chauvinist organization in Palestine.

The current visit of Menachem Begin, leader of this party, to the United States is obviously calculated to give the impression of American support for his party in the coming Israeli elections, and to cement political ties with conservative Zionist elements in the United States. Several Americans of national repute have lent their names to welcome his visit. It is inconceivable that those who oppose fascism throughoutthe world, if correctly informed as to Mr. Begin’s political record and perspectives, could add their names and support to the movement he represents.

Before irreparable damage is done by way of financial contributions, public manifestations in Begin’s behalf, and the creation in Palestine of the impression that a large segment of America supports Fascist elements in Israel, the American public must be informed as to the record and objectives of Mr. Begin and his movement. The public avowals of Begin’s party are no guide whatever to its actual character. Today they speak of freedom, democracy and anti-imperialism, whereas until recently they openly preached the doctrine of the Fascist state. It is in its actions that the terrorist party betrays its real character; from its past actions we can judge what it may be expected to do in the future.

Teachers were beaten up for speaking against them, adults were shot for not letting their children join them. By gangster methods, beatings, window-smashing, and wide-spread robberies, the terrorists intimidated the population and exacted a heavy tribute.

The people of the Freedom Party have had no part in the constructive achievements in Palestine. They have reclaimed no land, built no settlements, and only detracted from the Jewish defense activity. Their much-publicized immigration endeavors were minute, and devoted mainly to bringing in Fascist compatriots.

Discrepancies Seen

The discrepancies between the bold claims now being made by Begin and his party, and their record of past performance in Palestine bear the imprint of no ordinary political party. This is the unmistakable stamp of a Fascist party for whom terrorism (against Jews, Arabs, and British alike), and misrepresentation are means, and a “Leader State” is the goal.

In the light of the foregoing considerations, it is imperative that the truth about Mr. Begin and his movement be made known in this country. It is all the more tragic that the top leadership of American Zionism has refused to campaign against Begin’s efforts, or even to expose to its own constituents the dangers to Israel from support to Begin.

The undersigned therefore take this means of publicly presenting a few salient facts concerning Begin and his party; and of urging all concerned not to support this latest manifestation of fascism.

The Espionage Act & Julian Assange — 2: The Espionage Act’s UK Origins

The 1917 U.S. Espionage Act under which Assange is charged is descended from the 1889 British Official Secrets Act. The Espionage Act replaced the 1911 U.S. Defense Secrets Act, which was based on Section 1 of Britain’s legislation, the Official Secrets Act of 1889.

The language of this section of the Defense Secrets Act is in places nearly identical with the Official Secrets Act. Some of that language has survived in the Espionage Act to ensnare Assange.

The 1889 British Official Secrets Act says:

The 1889 Official Secrets Act was enacted in the midst of continuing unrest in Ireland and British tension with Russia over Afghanistan, hyped by exaggerated press reports of Russian designs on British India. It was also an era of freelance British spies abroad in the empire. The Act came 16 years after the establishment of the Intelligence Branch at the British War Office. Prior to 1889, larceny was the only law against obtaining and disclosing government secrets.

One of the cases that may have led directly to the Act was that of Charles Marvin, a clerk at the Foreign Office, who supplemented his income by freelancing articles to a newspaper. In one 1878 piece he reproduced from memory a secret British treaty with Russia, but the case against him was dismissed because he never physically removed the document from the Foreign Office. If Marvin were indeed the catalyst for the Official Secrets Act, it can be said that it came about to stop a journalist in the future from illegally obtaining and publishing state secrets.

The 1889 Act “is a classic piece of Victorian legislation, clear in some ways, vague in others, but significantly more liberal than what followed,” said Consortium News legal analyst Alexander Mercouris. “Section 1 of the 1889 Act is clearly concerned with spying, though the language is sufficiently vague that in theory it could be stretched to include other forms of disclosure. However I doubt that Victorian judges would have allowed it to be used for purposes other than prosecuting genuine acts of spying.”

Significantly, the 1889 Act included an explicit public interest defense, but only for government employees.

“Where a person, by means of his holding or having held an office under Her Majesty the Queen, has lawfully or unlawfully either obtained possession of or control over any document … at any time corruptly or contrary to his official duty communicates or attempts to communicate that document … to any person to whom the same ought not, in the interest of the State, or otherwise in the public interest, to be communicated at that time, he shall be guilty of a breach of official trust.” (Emphasis added.)

The public interest defense was added to the bill after objections were made in Parliament that the Act might penalize disclosures of government corruption and misconduct.

Section 1 of the Act criminalized any person for mere unauthorized possession and even unauthorized “knowledge” of any secret information (this clearly to prevent memorization of secrets, as Marvin had done). It also made it a crime to communicate such information to an unauthorized person. Even an attempt to do these things was a crime. Assange would have technically been liable under this part of the Act without a public interest defense, as he is not a government employee.

Haitian Ambassador: Attack Was By ‘Commandos’

Bocchit Edmond, the Haitian ambassador to the United States, said the attack was carried out by what he described as by “well trained professional commandos” and “foreign mercenaries.”

Twitter suspends professor over posts mocking China’s Xi Jinping

Twitter temporarily suspended a New Zealand professor after she mocked the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party and President Xi Jingping.

Anne-Marie Brady, a professor at the University of Canterbury, wrote two tweets making fun of China and Xi celebrating the centennial of the Communist Party.

She posted a Sydney Morning Herald story headlined “Xi’s hollow 100th birthday celebration for the Chinese Communist Party” by adding “alternative headline: Xi: its my Party and I’ll cry if I want to,” referring to the Lesley Gore hit song from 1963.

In another, she posted a photo of a dour-looking Xi flanked by two Chinese officials on Saturday, writing, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”

On Sunday, Brady said, Twitter temporarily suspended her account, to which she commented: “Seems one must never make fun of the Dear Leader.”

Twitter didn’t explain Brady’s suspension, other than posting a “This account is temporarily restricted” notice on the tweets.

Twitter’s action caught the attention of Edward Lucas, a columnist for London’s Sunday Times newspaper, who defended Brady, an expert on China’s attempts to exercise its influence around the world.

“Twitter has not explained what prompted this,” Lucas noted in the column. “Brady received only an automated warning that she may have ‘violated’ the social media platform’s rules. But the decision probably results from a concerted campaign by the Chinese Communist Party’s online agents.”

An Alabama police officer allegedly drugged and raped a woman after meeting her on a dating website – and a second victim has already reached out to investigators, authorities said this week.

Officer Matthew Wilcox, 37, was arrested Saturday on charges including first-degree rape and unlawful possession of a controlled substance after a search warrant at his home led to discovery of illegal narcotics, multiple firearms and drug paraphernalia, Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith told reporters at a Tuesday press conference.

Investigators went to Wilcox’s home after receiving a report of sexual misconduct involving an officer, Smith said.

“During the investigation, allegations were made that Officer Wilcox engaged in sexual intercourse with another person who was incapacitated and unable to consent by reasons of being incapable,” Smith said.

Pennsylvania Senate Chairman Initiates Forensic Probe of 2020, 2021 Elections

A Pennsylvania senator announced on July 7 that he has triggered a forensic investigation of the 2020 and 2021 elections.

State Sen. Doug Mastriano, a Republican, issued letters to several counties requesting information and materials that he said would enable an investigation.

“It’s distinct from an audit or forensic audit. It’s a big deep dive, like we saw in Arizona, but even deeper,” Mastriano told The Epoch Times.

“It takes a hard look at software, machine, scanners, in addition to looking at all the ballots themselves to see if they were hand-filled in or copied by a machine. So a scientific approach to get to the bottom of what happened, what went right, what went wrong in an election. It takes out all bias.”

Philadelphia County received a letter, as did two that lean Republican: York and Tioga counties.

They were asked to send over hard copies of ballots and other election materials. Mastriano expects a court battle to play out and is ready to go to his committee and request subpoena power if the counties don’t comply or indicate their willingness to comply by July 31.

A deputy for Philadelphia Commissioner Omar Sabir, a Democrat, told The Epoch Times that Sabir believes the elections were run freely and secure. He said that the commissioners are consulting with the city’s law department on the request from the state Senate. Nick Custodio, a deputy for Philadelphia Commissioner Lisa Deeley, a Democrat, said that her office is reviewing the requests.

“We do want to be clear, however, that Senator Mastriano’s letter reiterates claims about the November 2020 election that have been resoundingly rejected by courts. The repetition of baseless claims by elected officials poses a real challenge to our democratic processes. We are committed to continuing the hard work of ensuring that Philadelphians are able to exercise their right to vote,” he said in an email.

Officials in York and Tioga counties didn’t respond to requests for comment by press time.

In an op-ed sent to news outlets, Mastriano charged that there is a strong case for an investigation, noting that 2.7 million mail-in ballots were counted in the 2020 election, compared to just 263,000 in the prior presidential election. He also noted that many of the ballots were counted without signature verification.

“It would defy logic to assume that an election with the kinds of drastic changes we saw in 2020 was run perfectly with zero errors or fraud,” he said.

Federal law mandates that counties keep records that are being sought for 22 months after an election. The counties were told to produce the information by July 31.

The Pennsylvania Department of State, which said a risk-limiting audit of the 2020 election has confirmed the election results, didn’t respond to a request for comment by press time.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro vowed during an appearance on MSNBC this week that he would fight back if lawmakers tried triggering an Arizona-style election review in Pennsylvania.

“I’m absolutely confident,” Shapiro said when asked if he could stop an audit or probe.

Pennsylvania Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa said on July 7 that he opposes the investigation for a number of reasons. He alleged that Mastriano’s panel doesn’t have authority over election activity and that even if it did, such an investigation would be redundant because “the 2020 election has been audited and reviewed extensively.”

“The results of the 2020 election have been challenged in the courtrooms of 86 judges and upheld initially in 85 of them; the 86th was ultimately decided against former President Trump as well. The Pennsylvania Department of State has also already completed statistical sampling as required in Title 25 and a pilot risk-limiting audit,” he said in a statement.

An election assessment conducted in Fulton County, Pennsylvania, uncovered several major issues, but the team that performed the review alleged that the election was well-run and that there were no signs of fraud despite the problems.

Mastriano hasn’t yet chosen firms to carry out the new probe, but told The Epoch Times that he would prefer to hire the companies conducting the audit in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Mastriano joined two other Pennsylvania Republicans in a trip to Phoenix last month to observe firsthand the audit taking place in the county. The delegation expressed hope for a similar review in their state after the trip, and a different committee chairman has said he supports carrying out an audit, though he hasn’t initiated a review.

“The only way I could see ahead of this putting this all [to] rest—and let the cards fall where they may—do a scientific forensic audit, like Arizona. I don’t see any other way to address this,” Mastriano told The Epoch Times after visiting the audit.

He said that he would prefer a statewide audit, but would settle for a review of several counties.

Mastriano has said that the effort wouldn’t seek to overturn the election results. Democrat Joe Biden beat former President Donald Trump by about 80,000 votes in the 2020 election.

The judge ordered a Muslim woman seeking a divorce from her husband to undergo arbitration through an Islamic court

A judge in Texas earlier this year effectively denied a U.S. citizen her constitutionally protected due process rights, choosing instead to order her to appear before an Islamic tribunal where her testimony is considered inferior. And when her lawyers sounded the alarm — the judge doubled down.

In March, Collin County District Judge Andrea Thompson ordered a Muslim woman seeking a divorce from her husband to undergo arbitration not through regular channels but through an Islamic court, also known as a Fiqh Panel — a move that the woman's lawyers argue is an obvious and unconscionable affront to her constitutional rights.

The woman, Mariam Ayad, was attempting to exercise her legal right to a divorce last year when her husband, Ayad Hashim Latif, revealed that on the day of their wedding in 2008, she had signed an Islamic prenuptial agreement to have all matters regarding the marriage and divorce be decided according to Sharia law.

According to court documents, Mariam claims that she was essentially hoodwinked and defrauded into signing the document. At the time, she believed she was signing two copies of a marriage acknowledgment form, which is customary in Muslim cultures.

Notwithstanding, Mariam's lawyers argue the agreement — which outlines that a three-man panel of Muslim imams are to decide all issues relating to the marriage, including alimony, division of property, child support, and even custody of the couple's 6-year-old son — ought to be voided in lieu of U.S. law. A copy of the agreement was provided to TheBlaze.

The Texas district judge — in complete disregard of both federal and state law — ruled that the prenuptial agreement is binding, without taking testimony from the wife.

In absence of relief, Mariam will now be required to settle her divorce matters with the Islamic Association of North Texas in front of the Muslim clerics who view her testimony and evidence as carrying half the weight as a man's.

Mariam has filed a writ of mandamus with the Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas to restrict the lower court from enforcing the arbitration order. She is being represented by Michelle O'Neil and Michael Wysocki of the O'Neil Wysocki law firm in Dallas.

Moreover, court documents obtained by TheBlaze show that Thompson vacated the original March order after Mariam's lawyers challenged it. But instead of changing the order's effect, the judge seemed to have merely changed some of the wording to make it appear less controversial.

"It is therefore ordered that Respondent's Motion to Enforce Islamic Prenuptial Agreement and Refer Case to Muslim Court or Fiqh Panel is granted and the Court refers the case to a Muslim Court or Fiqh Panel for [Alternative Dispute Resolution]," the court order dated March 24, which was viewed by TheBlaze, said.

Haiti's descent into chaos has been years in the making and this latest twist threatens to destabilise the country even further.

Speaking to friends and contacts in the capital, all say there is an eerie calm - "a calm before the storm", as one put it.

"What storm, I don't know, because I think the storm happened last night."

This appears to be an organised and well executed attack, with pictures from the scene showing the president's compound pockmarked with bullets, while security forces try to control the scene.

"There's a long list of candidates who could be involved in this assassination," one journalist in Haiti told me.

"It could be gangs, but I doubt they're that sophisticated, it could be politics, but that's uncertain, but obviously it appears to be a well organised hit."

Residents living in the area told journalists on the scene the gunmen were speaking Spanish and English, and were foreigners.

Because of the earthquake in 2010 much of the administrative infrastructure of the country was destroyed, including the presidential palace.

So President Moise was living in his own house on the outskirts of the capital, although it is understood that it was heavily guarded.

There are still no reports on how many police or soldiers died in this attack.

The country's acting prime minister has declared a state of emergency, the airport is closed and the country's land border with the Dominican Republic is shut too.

Sources inside Haiti tell me this doesn't appear to be a coup, because as coups have gone in the past in Haiti, usually the coup leader pops up on television to announce they're in control. That has not happened so far in this case.

Haiti's leading opposition parties, the judiciary and activist groups claimed President Moise's term ended in February - the president, supported by the United States, pointed out he had another year in office.

A fortnight ago the president made his last known public appearance, addressing his supporters in Port au Prince.

But he'd been running low on popularity for a while now.

Gangs, kidnapping, corruption and discontent have become bywords for life in Haiti.

Violent confrontations between anti-government protesters and the police have been a near-daily occurrence for nearly three years in this impoverished Caribbean nation.

The protest movement began as a social media campaign highlighting the lack of infrastructure and rebuilding following the earthquake.

It then turned into violent street protests.

When I was in the capital in February as people were calling for an uprising against the president, the protests were violent and deadly, their ferocity changing from day to day.

Port au Prince is one of the poorest places in the world I've ever been to.

The city still looks like a battlefield over 10 years after the earthquake destroyed it - much of it has not been rebuilt.

Haiti has no idea where things are going now, the streets are quiet but nobody knows how long that will last.

US Air Force Academy professor draws flak for op-ed urging military academies to teach ‘critical race theory’

A political science professor at the US Air Force Academy has been accused of teaching “dangerous wokeism” after revealing she uses critical race theory to help cadets “understand the history of the racism” that shaped America.

In an opinion piece for the Washington Post, Lynne Chandler Garcia noted that the US was founded on a “duality” between “liberalism and equal rights” on one hand, and “inequality, inegalitarianism, and second-class citizenship” on the other.

“It [critical race theory] helps students identify the structural racism and inequality that has been endemic in American society. And it provides methods for deconstructing oppressive beliefs, policies, and practices to find solutions that will lead to justice,” Garcia wrote.

I teach critical race theory to our nation’s future military leaders because it is vital that cadets understand the history of the racism that has shaped both foreign and domestic policy.

Garcia, who has taught at the academy in Colorado Springs for the past four years, echoed comments by Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark Milley, who said, during a congressional defense budget hearing last month, that critical race theory would help “understand [the] white rage” behind the January 6 Capitol Hill riot.

Interpol: CyberCriminal ‘Dr Hex’ Caught in Morocco

Moroccan authorities have arrested a suspected cybercriminal allegedly responsible for online phishing and fraud campaigns that have defrauded thousands of victims since as early as 2009, Interpol said in a statement Tuesday.

‘Dr Hex’ - the suspect’s signature name which he often left on webpages he had targeted - is accused of credit card fraud, defacing websites, targeting companies and banks with malware, and even developing ‘kits’ sold to other cybercriminals online, to carry out similar campaigns.

Among other things, these kits allowed their users to easily impersonate online banking sites and steal victims’ bank details for financial gain.

His capture is the result of a two-year joint investigation, “Operation Lyrebird,” carried out by Interpol, Moroccan police and cybersecurity solutions provider Group-IB, which established Dr Hex’s involvement in campaigns against 134 websites between 2009 and 2018.

Interpol’s Executive Director of Police Services, Stephen Kavanagh, called the arrest “a significant success against a suspect who is accused of targeting unsuspecting individuals and companies across multiple regions for years, and the case highlights the threat posed by cybercrime worldwide.”

With cybercrime on the rise, last year Interpol launched two campaigns, #WashYourCyberHands and #OnlineCrimeIsRealCrime, to raise awareness of phishing campaigns and cyber threats among individuals, businesses and organizations.

The agenda proposes to strengthen antitrust enforcement and push for more transparency of Big Tech companies.

Republican Rep. Jim Jordan announced Wednesday an agenda by House Judiciary committee Republicans to take on Big Tech to create more transparency, strengthen antitrust enforcement, and hold companies accountable for supposed censorship against conservatives.

"Big Tech is out to get conservatives," Jordan, a ranking member of the committee, wrote in a statement Wednesday. "This document expands on the Republican framework and presents specific proposals that will speed up and strengthen antitrust enforcement, hold Big Tech accountable for its censorship, and increase transparency around Big Tech’s decisions."

One of the actions against Big Tech is to increase the speed at which Congress can apply antitrust scrutiny to companies. The plan would speed up antitrust trials by making direct appeals to the Supreme Court. House Judiciary Republicans would also empower state attorneys general, which would allow them to use the same fast-track procedures available to the federal government to litigate antitrust cases in an optimal timeframe.

"Our plan subjects Big Tech to legal accountability for its censorship," Jordan wrote in the statement. "Platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube are functionally the public square of the digital age. It is wrong that these platforms control and censor speech with impunity."

Jordan said Big Tech must also be subjected to further transparency by having companies list their content moderation policies on a publically available website. Jordan did not specify when the committee would enact any of the steps in the proposal.
