Criminal referrals of former Trump officials pose thorny questions for DOJ

 

Tough decisions are piling up at the Department of Justice (DOJ), which is now weighing three criminal referrals from Congress directed at former Trump White House officials.

 

The referrals pose thorny legal issues for a department that has historically defended senior administration officialsโ€™ testimonial immunity in the face of congressional subpoenas.

 

This week, the House voted to hold Peter Navarro and Dan Scavino in contempt for defying the Jan. 6 committeeโ€™s subpoenas as the panel grows increasingly frustrated over the nearly four months that have passed since it approved a referral for former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

 

When the House voted to refer Stephen Bannon to the DOJ last year for defying another select committee subpoena, federal prosecutors quickly brought criminal contempt of Congress charges against the Trump confidant and former White House strategist.

 

But the referrals involving Meadows, Navarro and Scavino may involve tougher considerations for the Justice Department since their subpoenas cover their work as White House officials.

 

Neil Eggleston, a former White House counsel and congressional investigator for the Houseโ€™s Iran-Contra probe, said the remaining cases are more difficult than that of Bannon, who was well out of the White House during the time period in question.

 

โ€œFor people who were senior White House officials at the time, thereโ€™s another layer of complexity that doesnโ€™t apply to a Bannon,โ€ he said.

 

The DOJ has historically argued in favor of shielding such officials from congressional inquiry, adopting legal positions that the legislative branch has no avenue to compel testimony from presidential advisers.

 

โ€œFor a few decades now, weโ€™ve seen DOJ articulating this kind of absolutist stance that close advisors to the president are absolutely immune from congressional subpoena,โ€ said David Janovsky, an analyst with the nonpartisan Project on Government Oversight.

 

โ€œAnd itโ€™s worth noting that DOJ has basically invented this out of whole cloth, and itโ€™s certainly not something that Congress agrees with, and itโ€™s not really something that any of the judges who have had an occasion to look at this argument have agreed with either. So theyโ€™re pretty much on their own on it, but thatโ€™s the line theyโ€™ve taken in the past,โ€ he added.

Two killed as helicopter crashes into field in North Yorkshire

Specialist air crash investigators have been despatched to the crash site, while the public have been 'strongly urged' to avoid the area.

 

Two people have died after a helicopter crashed into a field in North Yorkshire.

 

An investigation is underway into why the aircraft came down near Burton in Lonsdale - the cause is currently unknown.

 

Emergency services rushed to the scene off Bentham Road after the helicopter crashed shortly before midday.

 

North Yorkshire Police confirmed later on Monday afternoon that two people were killed as a result.

 

Their families are being supported by specially trained officers, the force added.

 

No one else is believed to have been on board.

 

Aerial pictures of the scene appear to show the burned wreckage of the helicopter, as emergency services work nearby.

 

People have been "strongly urged" to avoid the area.

 

Sky News North of England correspondent Frazer Maude, close to the scene, said a large area around the crash site has been cordoned off as the investigation continues.

 

"As I say, we believe that this helicopter crashed shortly after take-off.

 

"We're not sure whether that was due to pilot error or mechanical failure. It could have been any number of things.

 

"At the moment, it seems as though it's pretty perfect conditions today, very clear skies, no significant wind or anything like that.

 

"So the two main causes, I would imagine, that the air accident investigators are looking into will either pilot error or mechanical failure."

 

He said he spoke to a local farmer who saw a plume of smoke going into the sky, but did not hear the crash.

Rich Higgins Biography

 

Richard Higgins is the Vice President of Unconstrained Analytics. He has spent 20 years combating terrorism and is an expert on the nexus between theological doctrines and information age unconventional warfare.

 

Rich Higgins served on the National Security Council in the Trump Administration as the Director for Strategic Planning. He was removed in 2017 after warning of a deep state coup to remove the President.

 

Higgins was Vice President of Intelligence & National Security for RED, LLC, a company that develops, tests and evaluates new combat capabilities for special operations, intelligence and irregular warfare missions.

 

From 2011 to 2013, Higgins managed a classified project for Special Operations Command (SOCOM). From 2010 to 2011, he served as the Chair of Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict at the National Defense University.

 

In 2004, he formed the Department of Defenseโ€™s (DOD) Irregular Warfare Support (IWS) program office and served as the organizationโ€™s first Program Manager until June 2010. In this role he was directly responsible for the creation of several new strategic and operational capabilities.

 

Higgins has advised the White House, Congress, and Foreign Governments on strategy, technology, and terrorism related matters. He is a 2011 Lincoln Fellow from the Claremont Institute.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced Tuesday that it will officially consider migrants' US military service before deciding whether to enforce civil immigration actions, such as deportation, against them or their family members.

 

 

While ICE has previously recognized US military service as a mitigating factor, the Biden administration's directive makes consideration of US military service an official agency policy. The department will take into account the non-citizen US veteran's type of discharge, length of service, and other related factors before deciding to take action against an illegal immigrant and their immediate family members.

 

 

Immigration enforcement actions include "arrest, detention, return, and removal from the United States of foreign nationals who are inadmissible to or removable from the United States under U.S. immigration law," according to the Department of Homeland Security.

 

 

The Biden administration stressed in a press release announcing the policy that the focus of ICE is "the apprehension and removal of noncitizens who are a threat to national security, public safety, and border security."

 

 

The newly official policy will also create training, tracking, and reporting requirements for current and former US service members who are illegal immigrants.

 

 

"ICE values the incredible contributions of noncitizens who have served in the U.S. military," ICE Acting Director Tae D. Johnson said in a press release. "Through this directive, ICE will consider U.S. military service by a noncitizen or their immediate family members when determining whether to take civil immigration enforcement decisions against a noncitizen."

Iโ€™ll keep fighting for jobs in Tracy and the solar project as it moves onto the next part of the process.โ€

 

The City of Tracy is seeking to purchase the Schulte Road land for use as the site of a solar electricity-generation project. The 200-acre property was previously conveyed to the City of Tracy by Congress with the condition that 150 acres be used for recreational or educational purposes. The language submitted by Congressman McNerney, and supported by the City of Tracy, waives any remaining restrictions on the landโ€™s use once it is purchased by the City. The City estimates that construction of the project will bring 200 jobs to San Joaquin County.

Washington, D.C. โ€“ Today, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) introduced the Solar Energy Deployment Act of 2012 to provide funding for state and local governments to install solar energy systems over rooftops and parking structures.

 

โ€œInvesting in clean energy at the state and local level will save money for all of California. In todayโ€™s economy, we need to do everything we can to be more efficient and cut costs,โ€ said Rep. McNerney. โ€œBy making new solar grants available, we can meet our energy needs while putting less strain on our electrical grid.โ€

 

The Solar Energy Deployment Act, H.R. 4622, allows the U.S. Secretary of Energy to award competitive grants to state and local governments for installing solar equipment over rooftops and parking structures. Recipients of the funds could design and install solar energy systems over structures they own.

 

The secretary would have the authority to take into consideration several factors in deciding who would receive the grants, including:

 

Speed with which solar systems can be deployed

Total amount of solar energy deployed

The financial need of the state or local government

The use of best practices to ensure maximum efficiency of deployed systems

Whether or not the materials to be used are manufactured in the U.S. and whether their components are manufactured in the U.S.

 

โ€œIn order to meet our economic challenges, we have always relied on American ingenuity. Solar initiatives will save California in electrical costs and put people to work building the solar systems. Putting emphasis on American-manufactured products will create good jobs and allow people to earn a real living,โ€ said Rep. McNerney.

The city of Tracy will be allowed to purchase a 200-acre tract of land from the federal government to build a solar energy project after a bill passed giving the stalled deal the green light.

 

U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, on Wednesday said the president approved the Tracy land conveyance bill, which waived use restrictions on the land.

The land on Schulte Road was conveyed previously to Tracy 14 years ago with the condition that it be used only for recreational or educational purposes.

 

Denham said the project will help create jobs in California's Central Valley, one of the most economically hard hit areas in the nation.

 

Tracy Mayor Brent Ives said in a statement that the project could create up to 200 jobs.

North Carolina's Biggest Hospital Systems Made Record Profits While Taking Billions In COVID Relief: Report

 

North Carolinaโ€™s largest hospital systems made billions of dollars in profits during the pandemic, while simultaneously taking $1.5 billion in taxpayer-funded COVID-19 relief funds, according to a report released Wednesday by the state treasurerโ€™s office.

 

The report, titled, โ€œNorth Carolina Hospital Systems Profit During COVIDโ€ was published by State Treasurer Dale Folwell who called on the hospital systems to โ€œuse their profits to lower costs for patientsโ€ or โ€œreturn unnecessary, taxpayer-funded relief dollars.โ€

 

According to the report, Atrium Health, Cone Health, Duke Health, Novant Health, UNC Health, Vidant Health, and WakeMed made a combined $5.2 billion in net profits in 2021 and recorded $7.1 billion in growth in cash and financial investments from 2019 to 2021.

 

Six of those hospital systems enjoyed higher net profits than in the years before the pandemic, the report states.

 

That growth came as the seven hospital systems reportedly took $1.5 billion in taxpayer-funded COVID relief meant to help support hospitals who were struggling through the pandemic, as well as another $1.6 billion in Medicare Accelerated and Advance Payments from 2020โ€“2021.

 

โ€œThese systems boasted huge reserves, but they still took the bulk of the relief funds meant for struggling hospitals - and then failed to dedicate more than a fraction of their windfall to increasing charity care for their suffering patients,โ€ Folwell said in a press release unveiling the report.

The report further found that despite their reported profits, the hospital systems shared little of it with disadvantaged patients, noting that a third of North Carolina hospitals spent less on charity care in 2020 during the peak of the pandemic.

 

Across 104 hospitals, charity care spending rose only $246.5 million from 2019 to 2020, while some hospitals increased billing of poor patients that were eligible for charity care.

 

Atrium Health sued hundreds of patients, according to the report.

 

โ€œWhile health care workers suffered on the front lines, hospital executives made billions on Wall Street,โ€ said Folwell.

 

โ€œNone of these nonprofit systems pay any property, income or sales taxes. Many failed to fully honor their charitable mission even when thousands of North Carolinians lost their businesses and their jobs during the pandemic.โ€

 

Folwell is urging the hospital systems to either return the taxpayer money or commit to reducing hospital price inflation. The Treasurer is also supporting the Medical Debt De-Weaponization Act which aims to bolster accountability, transparency and consumer protections on medical debt.

 

โ€œWe have a duty to hold hospital executives accountable for wrecking the financial health of thousands of patients and transferring wealth from citizens to them,โ€ Folwell added.

Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell's cellmate has made multiple claims of being offered money to kill Maxwell, lawyers for the Jeffrey Epstein accomplice say.

 

"One of the female inmates in Ms. Maxwellโ€™s housing unit told at least three other inmates that she had been offered money to murder Ms. Maxwell and that she planned to strangle her in her sleep," Maxwell's lawyers alleged in a court filing Wednesday. They said that the inmate who made the threat has been moved to a separate housing unit in the Brooklyn prison where Maxwell is incarcerated, "presumably to protect Ms. Maxwell."

 

"This incident reflects the brutal reality that there are numerous prison inmates who would not hesitate to kill Ms. Maxwell โ€” whether for money, fame, or simple โ€˜street cred,'" the lawyers wrote.

 

Maxwell, a British socialite, was convicted in December for sex trafficking a 14-year-old girl during her time as a close associate of infamous billionaire Jeffrey Epstein. Her July 2020 arrest came years after investigations and litigation against Epstein, who allegedly operated an underage sex trafficking ring and raped dozens of underage girls.

 

Epstein was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial for his sex crimes. His death was officially ruled a suicide.

 

In their sentencing brief, Maxwell's lawyers argued she should receive a lighter sentence for her convictions based on the alleged death threat and multiple other grounds, including her "difficult, traumatic childhood."

 

"Ghislaine Maxwell is not an heiress, villain, or vapid socialite. She has worked hard her entire life. She has energy, drive, commitment, a strong work ethic, and desire to do good in the world," her lawyers wrote.

 

They claimed that Maxwell's dysfunctional relationship with "an overbearing, narcissistic, and demanding father" "made her vulnerable to Epstein, whom she met right after her father's death."

 

"It is the biggest mistake she made in her life and one that she has not and never will repeat,โ€ the lawyers asserted.

 

They also asserted that prosecutors sought to charge Maxwell with crimes only because of "strong media and public uproar" after Epstein escaped justice.

 

โ€œThe government faced an urgency to appease the renewed distress of Epsteinโ€™s accusers and to repair the tarnished reputations of the [Department of Justice] and [Bureau of Prisons]," the lawyers wrote.

 

โ€œThere would be no trial for Epstein and no public vindication and justice for his accusers,โ€ they insisted. โ€œThe government now had a huge hole to fill: Epsteinโ€™s empty chair.โ€

 

Maxwell's attorneys are seeking a sentence below the 20 years recommended by the court's probation department, the New York Times reported. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 28.

The United States found itself embroiled in several interventions in the 1990s that focused on upholding basic human rights standards and encouraging democratic regimes to flourish, from Somalia to the Balkans to Americaโ€™s own backyard in the Caribbean. Despite Haiti being the second nation in the Western Hemisphere to proclaim independence, it has suffered from the beginning to establish an orderly and legitimate system of governance.

 

In 1991, anarchy ensued once again when the Haitian military, led by Commander-in-chief Raoul Cedras, overthrew Jean-Baptiste Aristide, a controversial yet nevertheless democratically elected President of the nation. The coup represented a decisive step backward from the overall positive trend towards democratization in the region and led many in the U.S. to call for an intervention to restore human rights and democracy.

 

In October 1993, the Clinton administration dispatched the USS Harlan County to prepare for the return of Aristide, but it was met at the pier in Port-au-Prince by a mob of Haitians, appearing to threaten violence. With the street battle in Mogadishu only a week past, the administration proved unwilling to risk casualties in Port-au-Prince. The ship pulled away.

 

Four days later, the United Nations Security Council imposed a naval blockade on Haiti. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) โ€“ An appellate court has denied an appeal by Kentucky's attorney general to reinstate the state's abortion ban.

A lawsuit filed Monday on behalf of the state's two abortion clinics โ€” the EMW Women's Surgical Center and Planned Parenthood clinics in Louisville โ€” asked a judge to issue a temporary restraining order to block a state law banning most abortions that took effect after the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling last week to overturn Roe. V. Wade.

Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Mitch Perry granted the temporary restraining order on Thursday to block the law.

 

In a statement late Thursday afternoon, Attorney General Daniel Cameron said he had asked the Kentucky Court of Appeals to stay Perry's decision.

"Every day that goes by that the Human Life Protection Act and Heartbeat Law are prevented from taking effect, more unborn lives will be lost," Cameron said at the time. "These laws represent Kentuckyโ€™s values and its support for life. Weโ€™re moving quickly to defend this important law and to have it restored."

 

Cameron's appeal was denied on Saturday, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Kentucky, meaning abortion remains legal in the state.

"This is a great victory for now," the ACLU said in a statement posted to Twitter on Saturday. "We'll fight with everything we have to keep it. No one โ€” no matter where they live โ€” should be forced to remain pregnant against their will."

Syria grants amnesty for โ€˜terrorist crimesโ€™

 

President Bashar Assadโ€™s decree does not, however, pardon anyone involved in killings

 

Syrian President Bashar Assad issued a decree on Saturday granting amnesty to Syrians for terrorist crimes up to the end of April, except those leading to death. Assad has extended similar olive branches to deserters, criminals and opposition fighters before, often to the displeasure of the US.

 

Assadโ€™s decree, first reported by Syrian state media on Saturday, โ€œgrants a general amnesty for terrorist crimes committed by Syrians before [Saturday], except for those that led to the death of a person.โ€

 

While the pardon frees terrorists from criminal prosecution, it does not exempt them from civil lawsuits brought by those they may have harmed.

 

Those pardoned would have been prosecuted under a 2012 anti-terrorism law and a 1949 provision of Syriaโ€™s legal code, and as such will affect the various terrorist groups fighting in Syriaโ€™s civil war, which began in 2011. Assad, with the help of Russian forces, has broadly succeeded in maintaining control of Syria against a collection of opposition militias and terrorist groups like Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) and Al-Nusra Front.

 

Throughout more than a decade of war, Assad has periodically offered pardons to his opponents. Military deserters who didnโ€™t take up arms with terrorists were given amnesty in 2018 and allowed to return to Syria, while a general amnesty for misdemeanors and juvenile crimes was granted in 2021.

 

However, at the outset of the Syrian Civil War in 2011, Assad attempted to offer opposition fighters amnesty in exchange for surrender. This offer was rejected by the United States, with State Department official Victoria Nuland advising the opposition to ignore Assadโ€™s offer and continue fighting.

 

The Syrian Foreign Ministry at the time accused Washington of โ€œinciting seditionโ€ with this advice and โ€œsupporting acts of killing and terrorism.โ€ The war would continue, and Nuland would go on to oversee the violent overthrow of democratically elected President Viktor Yanukovych in Ukraine in 2014, and is currently shaping US policy on Ukraine as President Bidenโ€™s under secretary of state for political affairs.

As well, note the authors, the number of meetings for promotional purposes has dramatically increased in the U.S. pharmaceutical industry, jumping from 120,000 in 1998 to 371,000 in 2004, further supporting their findings that the U.S. pharmaceutical industry is marketing-driven.

Thus, the studyโ€™s findings supports the position that the U.S. pharmaceutical industry is marketing-driven and challenges the perception of a research-driven, life-saving, pharmaceutical industry, while arguing in favour of a change in the industryโ€™s priorities in the direction of less promotion, according to Gagnon and Lexchin.

First on Fox: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Monday launched an investigation against Twitter, claiming that the company has underreported its fake bot accounts and those numbers have negatively impacted consumers and businesses. Paxtonโ€™s office said "bots," or spam accounts, "inflate followers and reach, and often push deceptive and annoying activity." Mรผller-Elmau said his grandfather justified his paradoxical stance with the argument that Hitlerโ€™s unexpected assumption of power could be interpreted only as a fate willed by God โ€œand that one could recognize a God-sent leader precisely by the fact that he would not correspond to rational and wishful thinking.โ€

There was one particular Nazi slogan that struck a chord with Mรผller: โ€œDu bist nichts; dein Volk ist alles.โ€ (โ€œYou are nothing; your people are everything.โ€) Mรผller drew similarities between the Nazisโ€™ collective nationalist ideology and his own emphasis on rebuffing self-interest.

His opposition to antisemitism and his ban on the Nazi salute at Schloss Elmau would have landed most people in a concentration camp โ€” but Mรผllerโ€™s unwavering support for Hitler left Nazi officials with a dilemma. Ultimately, his connections and following protected him.

Still, he was constantly interrogated by the Gestapo, Nazi Germanyโ€™s secret police, and eventually his works were banned โ€” although that didnโ€™t shake Mรผllerโ€™s faith in Hitler.

In 1942, in a bid to prevent confiscation of the castle by the SS, the Nazi paramilitary group, Mรผller rented the castle out to the Wehrmacht, Nazi Germanyโ€™s army, as a vacation resort for soldiers coming back from the front.

But two years later, Mรผller was placed under house arrest and Schloss Elmau was turned into a military hospital for German soldiers. The following year, as the Nazis surrendered, the U.S. Army took control of Elmau, and it briefly became a prison camp for the soldiers who were being treated there, then a military training school.

The war might have been over, but in its aftermath, Mรผllerโ€™s contradictory stance toward the Third Reich remained problematic.

In 1946, Philipp Auerbach, the Bavarian state commissioner for persecuted people and a Holocaust survivor, sued for a denazification trial to be brought against Mรผller on the grounds of his โ€œglorificationโ€ of Hitler.

โ€œMy grandfather chose not to defend himself,โ€ Mรผller-Elmau said. โ€œHe confessed to his political error, but not to the theological error on which it was based.โ€ Given that Mรผller was neither a member of the Nazi party nor involved in acts of war, his conviction was controversial.

Auerbach, frustrated that legal appropriation of the castle was taking too long, took possession of it without legal title. Between 1947 and 1951, the castle served as a sanatorium for Holocaust survivors and displaced people.

Ernst Landauer, a Jewish journalist who survived several Nazi concentration camps including Auschwitz, wrote about marking the Jewish holiday of Purim in Elmau in a text published in 1946. Silence prevailed during the religious readings, โ€œat times interrupted by sobbing,โ€ he wrote.

 

Auerbachโ€™s control of Elmau was short-lived. His vigorous pursuit of former Nazis irked parts of the political establishment, and he was arrested on allegations of corruption. In 1952, he was convicted of fraud and embezzlement. Days after the verdict, he took his own life.

The reason for his conviction was the antisemitism that was pervasive at the time, German historian and author Michael Brenner said. โ€œThree judges of the court were former Nazi party members,โ€ he said. In 1954, two years after Auerbachโ€™s death, an inquiry cleared his name.

 

Mรผller-Elmau became proprietor in 1997 and set out to reestablish Schloss Elmau as a โ€œcultural hideaway,โ€ although he shunned his grandfatherโ€™s philosophy. Cutting up the communal dining tables, he said, was as symbolic as it was practical to the hotelโ€™s new mantra: the freedom to choose.

โ€œPreviously, it had been a forced community,โ€ he said, adding, โ€œFor me, itโ€™s all about individualism.โ€

The opportunity to make the biggest changes came in 2005, when a fire ripped through the building. Most of the hotel had to be demolished and reconstructed.

โ€œWatching the hotel in flames โ€” well, was a great relief,โ€ Mรผller-Elmau said. โ€œIt was the best thing that could ever happen to me because before I was putting new wine into old bottles. And now I could make a new bottle for a new wine. I could design Elmau as a place for cosmopolitans and for individualists.โ€

Steve Bannon Strikes Back Hard in Fight Against Contempt of Congress Charges

Steve Bannon, who helped usher Donald Trump to power during the 2016 election, is currently facing two charges of contempt of Congress. Bannon, who has been targeted by the January 6th committee, refused to testify and to produce documents. Joe Bidenโ€™s DOJ eventually moved forward with prosecution after the committee recommended charges.

 

That stands in stark contrast to the treatment of Eric Holder and Louise Lerner, both of which were held in contempt of Congress by majority votes in the House during the Obama administration. Neither was ever actually charged with a crime because the justice system is so clearly two-tiered.

 

Bannon isnโ€™t going down without a fight, though. According to CNN,he and his team have now issued subpoenas for multiple Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer.

 

Steve Bannon, set to go to trial next month for defying a congressional subpoena, has subpoenaed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and members of the House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection as he builds his defenseโ€ฆ

 

โ€ฆLast week, Bannonโ€™s legal team subpoenaed 16 lawmakers and congressional staffers to testify at the July trial and produce documents, according to one of Bannonโ€™s attorneys and copies of the subpoenas provided to CNN. The subpoenas were aimed at all nine members of the select committee, three committee staffers and General Counsel for the House of Representatives Douglas Letter. Bannon also subpoenaed House Democratic leadership, including Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Rep. Jim Clyburn.

 

CNN found a legal โ€œexpertโ€ to comment on the move, and he supposes that itโ€™ll be hard for Bannon to compel the testimony of the Congressional members because of the Speech and Debate clause. Whether thatโ€™s actually true, Iโ€™m not sure, and I wonโ€™t claim to have an answer. Obviously, mainstream media outlets can find โ€œexpertsโ€ to tell them anything they want to hear.

 

Still, given that Bannonโ€™s defense will likely rest on whether Pelosi and Hoyer followed proper procedure in setting up the committee, this might be a situation where they may be forced to appear. The subject at hand isnโ€™t about anything the congressional members in question said. Rather, itโ€™s about whether Bannon can be held in contempt of a committee that may be illegal as currently constituted.

 

For my part, I think this entire thing is a joke. Contempt of Congress is never enforced, but suddenly, because itโ€™s a Trump associate, the DOJ is going to go hard? That strikes me as blatantly political, and as I noted earlier, itโ€™s more evidence that the justice system is two-tiered. If you are a Democrat and an elite, you can do essentially anything you want. If you are a Republican, youโ€™ll not only get charged in situations no one else would be charged but youโ€™ll likely be found guilty because of the DC jury pool (a city that voted 92.5 percent for Joe Biden).

 

Do we really want a system where political leanings dictate whether youโ€™ll end up spending thousands of dollars in court defending yourself? Or worse, whether you end up in jail? Unfortunately, far too many on the left are comfortable with that, being so sure that the alligator wonโ€™t eat them. Perhaps they are right,but one day Republicans will be back in charge. When that happens, payback needs to be swift. (If they dont fight now, it might never happen)

Becerra said the federal government is working with Planned Parenthood to provide โ€˜family planning servicesโ€™ to women.

The move has made some within the company upset

 

Exxon is banning the LGBTQ pride flag from being flown outside its Houston corporate office during pride month in June.

 

The company updated guidance on acceptable flags which can be displayed outside offices, which included banning "external position flags," including the pride flag and Black Lives Matter flag, according to the new policy obtained by Bloomberg News.

 

The rule does permit a flag representing an LGBTQ employeesโ€™ group to be flown, but it can't prominently display the Exxon corporate logo, according to the report.

 

Exxon's move didn't go over well with members of the Exxon PRIDE Houston chapter who are now refusing to represent the company at Houston's pride celebration, the report states.

 

Flags representing employee resource groups at the company can be displayed, according to a spokesperson, and told Bloomberg News it supports that.

 

"The flags are directly related to our business and company support of our ERGs, including PRIDE for LGBTQ+ employees," the spokesperson said.
