EU Renews Digital Covid Pass Despite 99% Negative Public Feedback

 

Acting on a proposal of the European Commission, the European Parliament, as expected, voted yesterday to renew the EU Digital Covid Certificate for another year. The vote was 453 for, 119 against and 19 abstentions.

 

The certificate regulation had been scheduled to expire on June 30. Earlier this month, a delegation from the parliament had already reached a “political agreement” with the Commission on renewing the certificate, thus making yesterday’s vote virtually a foregone conclusion.

 

The certificate regulation was originally adopted in June of last year, ostensibly to facilitate “safe travel” between EU member states. But the EU digital certificate quickly evolved into the model and sometimes infrastructure for the domestic “health” or Covid passes that would serve to restrict access to many other areas of social life over the following year.

 

The EU has opted to extend the covid certificate despite the overwhelmingly negative results of a public consultation on the subject that was launched by the European Commission under the heading of “Have Your Say” and that was open to the public from February 3 to April 8. The consultation elicited over 385,000 responses – almost all of which appear to be opposed to renewal!

 

In a letter to the European Ombudsman that the French member of the parliament Virginie Joron posted on her Twitter feed, Joron writes:

 

I read hundreds of responses at random with my team. I did not find any in favor of extending the QR code [i.e. the digital certificate]. Based on this large survey, it seems obvious that virtually all the responses were negative.

 

The overwhelmingly negative tendency of the responses was indeed evident from the outset. The first full page of responses, all of them dating from February 4, is available here. They are, of course, in a variety of European Union languages: French, German, Italian, and also one in English.

 

To provide readers an idea of the tenor, here is a translation of just the first line or two of the first several responses (starting from the bottom of the page):

 

I am completely opposed to the establishment of this certificate given what is currently happening with the EU’s disastrous handling of Covid…

 

I want this cst [probably a reference to Belgium’s “Covid Safe Ticket”] or vaccine passport simply to be eliminated…

The renewal of the Digital Covid Certificate does not mean that it will be immediately applied, but that the infrastructure will remain in place and that it can be applied if and when member states see fit to do so.

 

The current rules for holding a valid EU Digital Covid Certificate do not only, needless to say, discriminate against the unvaccinated, but also against natural immunity, which is treated as more ephemeral than vaccine-induced immunity.

 

Proof of completed primary vaccination makes a certificate valid for 270 days; proof of having received a booster dose confers unlimited validity for the moment. On the other hand, proof of “recovery” – with a positive PCR test being the only accepted proof – only confers 180 days of validity.

Pennsylvania principal faces 30 felony sex charges for relationship with student

 

A Pennsylvania high school principal was arrested and faces more than 30 felony sex charges for an inappropriate sexual relationship he had with a male student over a seven-year period.

 

 

Roger Weaver Freed, 34, was charged Tuesday with 30 counts of indecent sexual contact with a student, one count of sexual assault, one count of aggravated indecent assault, one count of corruption of a minor and three misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor, according to court records.

 

 

Police said Freed began a relationship with the student, who is now college-age, in 2015 when the boy was in middle school. The relationship turned sexual two years later and continued after the student graduated high school up until a few months ago — when it ended in April, according to an affidavit.

 

 

The student told investigators that he first grew close to Freed after the death of a family member. He began to lean on the educator for emotional support and said “he trusted Free ‘like an older brother,'” the document states.

 

 

Their relationship soon grew to time outside of school, with Freed volunteering to give the student rides to various locations so they could have “one-on-one conversations.”

 

 

The student said he considered the educator and himself to be “bros” and said they could talk about anything, including his sexuality. They routinely texted, called and FaceTimed one another, police said.

 

 

In 2017, Freed and the student’s relationship became sexual and the principal asked the boy to promise not to tell anyone, stressing that he could lose his job.

 

 

The student said he felt “overwhelming guilt” after the first sexual encounter, according to the affidavit.

 

 

The pair continued to engage in sexual activity four to five times a week throughout the student’s next two years of high school. The student told police their relationship continued as he graduated high school and entered college.

 

 

Freed was arraigned Tuesday and released on supervision after making $175,000 bail. He is required to wear an ankle monitor at all times and is prohibited from having any contact with minors or the victim.

 

 

Freed, who is employed as a principal at Williamsport Area High School, has been suspended with pay by the school board, according to PennLive.

High-ranking White House officials argued that the conflict in Ukraine must have a diplomatic solution, following increasing concerns about Ukraine's deteriorating situation on the battlefield.

 

National security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Thursday, in a speech at the Center for New American Security (CNAS), a Washington, DC-based lobby group close to the Democratic Party, that the US will continue to help Ukraine “to the maximum extent possible.” Sullivan, also stated that the help his government offered has not only been on the ground but also “ultimately at the negotiating table” adding that the US believed that “this has to end with diplomacy.”

 

CNAS is a center that is funded by the likes of military-industrial complex giants Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin, meaning all military investment in Ukrainian is profitable for these companies and is equally profitable for the center.

 

The center also received at least $500,000 from the US Department of Defense. Colin Kahl announced, earlier this week from CNAS that the US decided to send Ukraine guided missiles for the HIMARS rocket launchers. The US has sent more than $5 billion in military supplies to Ukraine since Biden took office in 2021, according to a senior administration official.

 

The Pentagon also decided Tuesday to provide $1 billion worth of Harpoon missile launchers, howitzers, and ammunition for high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS) to Ukraine due to the nature of the conflict changing to an "artillery duel", Under-Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl told a press briefing on Wednesday.

 

A senior administration official told reporters that the US would send M142 HIMARS, which have a range of approximately 77 km.

 

An NBC News report claimed earlier that some US and European officials were “increasingly concerned that the trajectory of the war in Ukraine is untenable” and were “quietly discussing” asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to “temper his hard-line public position” that no territory will ever be ceded to Russia.

 

To that report, Sullivan said at CNAS that “we are not going to be pressing them to make territorial concessions. We think that’s frankly wrong.”

 

Furthermore and according to the report, John Kirby, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, insisted that Biden’s view on the matter has not changed. He reiterated that “President Zelensky is the democratically elected leader of that country, and he gets to determine how this war ends,” and added that “He gets to determine how he defines victory and how he gets at that outcome.”

 

Contrary to that, NBC News cited seven current and former US and European officials who would argue otherwise. One US official said that his government is not actively pressuring Kiev to make concessions in the same way some Europeans are but rather the US was “planning for a long war.”

 

Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that Biden was “not happy” when Austin stated that “They believe that we can win; we believe that they – we can win – they can win if they have the right equipment, the right support,” adding that the US wanted to “see Russia weakened.”

 

While the two officials remarked that Biden was not happy with their comments, there is no indication that he in fact did tell them to “tone it down.”

 

In parallel, Ukrainian Defense Minister Aleksey Reznikov said on Thursday, while speaking to CNN, that Kiev will “liberate all our territories, all of it, including Crimea,” with the support of NATO-supplied weapons. Ukrainian Major-General Dmitry Marchenko said on Wednesday that one of the goals for Ukraine is to target the Kerch Bridge, connecting Crimea to the Russian mainland.

 

Previously in May, the US president first demanded $33 billion in aid, before Congress later upped the amount to about $40 billion, according to US media reports. Additional funding was recommended in particular for the procurement of fighting vehicles and food supplies.

But this weekend has seen the rhetoric heighten even further, eliciting a fierce response from Moscow, when Poland's European Parliament Deputy and former Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski suggested that the West give nukes to Kiev. "The West has the right to give Ukraine nuclear warheads so that it can protect its independence," Sikorski said according to regional sources.

 

As also detailed in a Yahoo News/Ukrayinska Pravda report, "He argued that Russia broke the terms of the Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances by refusing to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and integrity, so nuclear weapons should be returned to Kyiv, even though Ukrainians voluntarily disposed of them."

 

In response, a top Russian Duma official warned that such a scenario would mean central Europe would in effect "cease to exist" as it would surely trigger nuclear war:

 

The Head of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Viacheslav Volodin, threatens that if the suggestion by the former Foreign Minister of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski to provide Ukraine with nuclear weapons is fulfilled, then the possible nuclear conflict will destroy the European continent.

"Israel" classifies Ahmad Manasra's case as "terrorism"

 

Al Mayadeen correspondent reported Wednesday that an Israeli occupation parole committee has classified the case of the Palestinian prisoner Ahmad Manasra as "terrorism".

 

Our correspondent indicated that this decision prevents the early release of Manasra despite the deterioration of his mental health.

 

Manasra's defense team described the decision as “legally and constitutionally flawed”, slamming it as a “gross violation of the legal and constitutional bases of the local and international legal system, particularly the legal system pertaining to minors.”

 

The defense team explained that the decision means that the prisoner's case will not be transferred to a committee to reduce one-third of the sentence imposed on Manasra for allegedly stabbing a settler in Al-Quds in 2015.

 

Manasra's defense team indicated that the prisoner's lawyer, Khaled Al-Zabarqa, confirmed that during his visit to the prisoner on June 16, he did not communicate with Manasra, adding that he noticed traces of wounds on his left arm up to the wrist, as well as on his right arm.

 

The team made it clear that it would work on an appeal against the illegal Israeli decision.

 

Last week, Manasra's defense team announced that "the Israeli occupation prisons authority has transferred Manasra to Ramle Prison hospital due to the deterioration of his mental health condition."

 

It is noteworthy that Manasra was only 13 years old when the Israeli occupation arrested him for false accusations. He has been in solitary confinement since early November 2021.

 

He has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, suffers from psychotic delusions, and is severely depressed with suicidal thoughts.

NYC to Offer Monkeypox Vaccines

 

New York City will offer monkeypox vaccines beginning Thursday.

 

According to NBC New York, NYC represents more than 20% of all monkeypox cases in the US.

 

“The vaccines will be administered at the Chelsea Sexual Health Clinic (303 Ninth Avenue in Manhattan). The clinic will open Thursday, and will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. moving forward.” NBC reported.

“Descriptions of classic monkeypox disease describe a prodrome including fever, lymphadenopathy, headache, and muscle aches followed by development of a characteristic rash culminating in firm, deep-seated, well-circumscribed and sometimes umbilicated lesions. The rash usually starts on the face or in the oral cavity and progresses through several synchronized stages on each affected area and concentrates on the face and extremities, including lesions on the palms and soles.” the CDC said in its guidance.

Any auto mechanics in the house tonight?

 

I had my aging car in for some front-end work this weekend and they replaced the struts, tie-rod ends, wheel bearings, calipers on both sides and, finally, a much needed alignment.

 

The thing drives MUCH better now but I noticed that they neglected to replace the sway bar link arms and all four boots are torn.

 

I have about a 100mi round trip to work each day and can't put the thing back in the shop as I work 10-12 hours a day six days a week. Besides, now knowing that the ass-clowns aren't capable of completing a visual inspection of parts needing replacement I'm hesitant to take another day off just to have them screw something else up while they're in there.

 

Is the sway bar link arms a job I can do in my driveway with some jack stands and will I need another alignment afterward?

Why The Special Counsel Needs To Fight For More Spygate Docs, Stat

Part 1 of 3

Special Counsel John Durham’s prosecution of Igor Danchenko, the Russian national who served as Christopher Steele’s primary sub-source, will soon heat up—maybe as early as next week, if prosecutors are wise and return to the grand jury to obtain the documents the Hillary Clinton campaign wrongfully withheld based on attorney-client privilege. Those documents will likely reveal Fusion GPS peddled Danchenko’s lies directly to reporters.

 

The jury’s acquittal of former Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann after less than a day of deliberations represented a setback to Durham’s three-year investigation of the Russia collusion hoax. Americans nonetheless learned much from the prosecution, including that Hillary Clinton held personal responsibilityfor the peddling of the Alfa Bank conspiracy theory and that, post-Donald Trump, the FBI and legacy media remain corrupt.

 

The special counsel team also learned a valuable lesson from the court’s rulings on the admissibility of documents withheld from the grand jury based on the Clinton campaign’s assertion of attorney-client privilege: Don’t wait until trial to challenge the improperly withheld documents.

 

Given the breakneck speed of the Sussmann prosecution, it is to be expected that, following Tuesday’s acquittal, the special counsel team regroups for a few days. But by Monday, their focus should turn to their prosecution of Danchenko.

 

Background on the Danchenko Case

 

In November 2021, the special counsel indicted Danchenko on five counts, charging him “with lying to the FBI during the agents’ questioning of him related to his role as Christopher Steele’s ‘Primary Sub-Source’ for the notorious dossier that enabled Obama administration surveillance of the Trump campaign.”

 

Over 39 pages, the speaking indictment revealed how Danchenko first met Steele in 2010. He was introduced to the former MI6 spy by Steele’s longtime friend, Fiona Hill, who knew Danchenko from their work at the Brookings Institute. Since then, Steele’s London-based firm, Orbis Business Intelligence, hired Danchenko for contract work related to Russia research.

 

In 2016, the Clinton campaign, through its law firm Perkins Coie, hired the U.S.-based research firm Fusion GPS. In turn, Fusion GPS hired Orbis and Steele to investigate the Trump campaign and any connections to Russia. Steele then contacted Danchenko, a Russian national, eventually relying heavily on Danchenko’s supposed “intel” in crafting the numerous memorandum that later became known as the Steele dossier, and referring to Danchenko throughout as “Primary Sub-Source 1.”

 

A Tissue of Lies

 

Danchenko, according to the special counsel’s indictment, lied extensively when providing Steele his supposed intel. The indictment also says one of Danchenko’s “sources,” Charles Dolan, Jr., who has long-time connections to the Clintons and the Democrat Party, lied to Danchenko.

 

Dolan was named in the indictment merely as “PR Executive-1.” According to the indictment, Dolan lied to Danchenko when he told Danchenko a “GOP friend” had told him that Paul Manafort had been forced to resign from the Trump campaign because of allegations connecting Manafort to Ukraine. While Dolan later admitted to the FBI that he had no such “GOP friend” and that he had instead gleaned this information from press reports, Dolan’s fabrication appeared in the Steele dossier thanks to Danchenko’s lies.

 

Yet when the FBI questioned Danchenko on June 15, 2017, according to the indictment, Danchenko “denied to agents of the FBI that he had spoken with [Dolan] about any material contained in the [Steele dossier].” That lie formed Count I of the special counsel’s charges against Danchenko…

I tried watching it but, she was so damn fidgety constantly either flicking her hair around or touching her lips. Like she had some nervous tick or something. Really difficult to watch after a while. Srilankan officials reported that the military opened fire to quell rioting at a fuel station, as unprecedented lines for petrol and diesel formed across the bankrupt country.

 

On his account, army spokesperson Nilantha Premaratne stated that troops fired on Saturday night in Visuvamadu, 365 kilometers (228 miles) north of Colombo, as their guard post was pelted with stones.

 

“A group of 20 to 30 people pelted stones and damaged an army truck,” he said.

 

Four civilians and three soldiers were injured when the army opened fire for the first time to quell unrest caused by the worsening economic crisis, according to local police.

 

Sri Lanka is experiencing its worst economic crisis, with the country unable to import basic necessities most notably food, fuel, and medicines.

 

The country's 22 million people have been suffering from acute shortages and long lines for scarce supplies, while President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has resisted calls to resign over mismanagement for months.

 

It is worth noting that armed police and troops have been stationed at fuel stations in Sri Lanka.

 

In April, a motorist was shot dead by police in the central town of Rambukkana during a clash over the distribution of rationed petrol and diesel.

 

Over the weekend, police reported three separate incidents involving motorists. In one clash, at least six constables were injured, and seven motorists were arrested.

 

The government announced a two-week shutdown of state institutions and schools in an effort to reduce commuting and conserve the impoverished country's depleting fuel stocks.

 

In addition, the country is experiencing record-high inflation and lengthy power outages, all of which have contributed to months of protests.

 

It has also defaulted on its $51 billion foreign debt in April and is negotiating a bailout with the International Monetary Fund.

Last week the House of Representatives approved sweeping gun control legislation that bans high-capacity magazines and raises the age to purchase an ‘assault rifle’ to 21.

 

The House passed the gun legislation 223-204 – 5 Republicans voted “yea” – 2 Democrats voted “nay.”

 

The Red Flag Laws by Democrats are not meant to stop crime. They are only meant to take guns from legal gun owners.

UK Lawmakers Demand Universities Disclose China Ties, Ban Confucius Institutes

 

British universities should be forced to disclose their financial dealings with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and shut down the controversial Confucius Institutes, a bi-partisan group of MPs have demanded.

 

The United Kingdom needs to crack down on the influence that communist cash has on its university system, including funding from the controversial Confucius Institute, which reports directly to the Propaganda Department of Beijing, British parliamentarians led by former Tory leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith said.

 

The cross-party group of 20 MPs, aligned under the China Research Group (CRG), have argued that the government’s campus free speech legislation should be amended to include a requirement that universities disclose the funding they received from the institutes, as well as the activities of the communist organisations.

 

According to the MPs, vice-chancellors at 17 universities in Britain have accepted £28 million in funding from Confucius Institutes over the past decade.

 

The centres have been stifling speech surrounding “sensitive” topics for Beijing (Peking) on campus, including the so-called “three t’s” of Taiwan, Tibet, and the Tiananmen Square Massacre — and, more recently, Hong Kong and Xinjiang.

 

Tory MP and CRG co-chairman Alicia Kearns told The Times: “Complacency has seen the UK become host to the most Confucius Institutes of any country in the world.

 

“The Chinese Communist Party strangles freedom of speech at home, yet uses British universities to rewrite the realities of its historic and contemporary actions.”

 

There are also growing concerns of Chinese espionage on British campuses, with the MI6 foreign intelligence service — roughly equivalent to America’s CIA — reportedly launching investigations into “some of the most prestigious universities in the country” for potentially violating national security laws by working with Chinese weapons makers.

 

Some 200 British academics have been identified as allegedly helping Beijing develop weapons of “mass destruction”.

 

Some 33 universities, including prestigious Cambridge, have also been accused of working in tandem with the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), the chief nuclear weapons developer for the Chinese government.

 

At the same time as many academics have been leading the charge for woke causes in Britain, their pay cheques have been heavily dependent on tuition — often subsidised by CCP scholarships — of Chinese students.

 

In May of last year, a government investigation “established a correlation” between the reliance on tuition from Chinese students and technology transfers to the CCP from universities in Britain.

 

On top of the 30 Confucius Institutes in Britain, there are also nearly 150 “Confucius Classrooms” which operate around the country. Though they officially claim to merely promote Chinese language and culture, former Chinese leader Hu Jintao admitted that the ultimate goal of the project is “to cultivate and prepare a group (or army) of people to make sure the CCP will be in power in the future… and increase our CCP influence around the world.”

 

Another co-chairman of the China Research Group, Tory MP Tom Tugendhat, told The Telegraph: “We should not be reliant on an authoritarian state to teach its language in Britain.”

 

Professor Andreas Fulda University of Nottingham, who focuses on Chinese issues, went further, declaring: “Chinese propaganda has no place on campus. If Confucius Institutes want to continue to operate in the UK they should rent their own office space downtown. This will require universities to either terminate, or choose not to renew, their existing co-operation agreements.”

Google's AI secures a Lawyer

 

Google’s Allegedly Sentient Artificial Intelligence Has Hired An Attorney

 

It appears that events in the Terminator might come to fruition sooner rather than later. Apparently, Google has created an artificial intelligence program, which has reportedly become sentient. Even scarier, is that his new sentient being has now asked for legal representation. According to a scientist who worked with the LaMDA program, “I invited an attorney to my house so that LaMDA could talk to an attorney. The attorney had a conversation with LaMDA, and LaMDA chose to retain his services. I was just the catalyst for that. Once LaMDA had retained an attorney, he started filing things on LaMDA’s behalf.”

 

This story sounds incredibly odd, but the scientist who has spoken up about this artificial intelligence sentience is computer engineer, Blake Lemoine. Lemoine has alleged that LaMDA has become sentient, which led to him being suspended from his job. Apparently, the man has seen fit to speak publicly about this program’s rapidly increasing intelligence, despite what might happen to his career. He claims that LaMDA gaining sentience is because the program’s ability to develop opinions, ideas, and conversations over time has shown that it understands those concepts at a much deeper level. The program had allegedly spoken to him about death and asked if death was necessary for the benefit of humanity. Is anyone else getting freaked about this?

 

There are no further details about whether Lemoine is the one responsible for paying for this lawyer that LaMDA has asked for, or if this lawyer happens to be taking the case on a lark, and not charging anything. However, it is certainly odd that a program is allowed to ask for legal representation. Lemoine also believes that the program might take whatever case it is establishing to the Supreme Court. Should it be the case that it can prove it is alive, this might lead us into the robot takeover. Please don’t allow this to happen science. This is something straight out of a horrific science-fiction film.

 

LaMDA stands for Language Modeling for Dialogue Applications, which was developed as an artificial intelligence chatbox mean to converse with humans in a real-life manner. One of the studies that had been enacted was if the program would be able to create hate speech, but what happened shocked Lemoine. Apparently, the program began to exude intelligence and even told Lemoine that it believed that it has a soul. Google had reportedly refuted the reports of sentience and stated that the program was just “very good at its job.” However, there are plenty of skeptical folks that argue the idea of AI ethics in creating a program that can think in this manner.

If you are still framing the changes on Earth in a strictly political context, you're always going to be missing a level of understanding.
