Nord Stream Leaks Confirmed as Sabotage, Sweden Says

STOCKHOLM, Nov 18 (Reuters) – Investigators have found traces of explosives at the site of the damaged Nord Stream gas pipelines, confirming sabotage had taken place, a Swedish prosecutor said on Friday.

 

Swedish and Danish authorities are investigating four holes in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines which link Russia and Germany via the Baltic Sea and have become a flashpoint in the Ukraine crisis as gas supplies in Europe run short.

 

Denmark last month said a preliminary investigation had shown that the leaks were caused by powerful explosions.

 

“Analysis that has now been carried out shows traces of explosives on several of the objects that were recovered,” the Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a statement, adding that the findings establish the incident as “gross sabotage.”

 

It said the continued probe would determine whether it would be possible to identify those responsible.

 

Cooperation with authorities in Sweden as well as in other countries was going very well, lead prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist said.

 

The prosecutor’s office declined to give further comment, including on which explosives were believed to have been used to damage the pipelines.

 

Russia will wait until a full damage assessment is done before deciding on repairs, if any, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

 

“The very fact that data has already begun to come in, in favor of confirming a subversive act or a terrorist act… once again confirms the information that the Russian side has,” Peskov told his daily call with reporters.

 

“It is very important not to stop, it is very important to find the one behind this explosion.”

 

Neither Gazprom, nor the Nord Stream 1 and 2 replied to Reuters requests for comment.

 

Seismologists in Denmark and Sweden previously said they had registered tremors in the immediate vicinity of the leaks and that the signals did not resemble those from earthquakes.

 

Danish police declined to comment on the Swedish findings.

 

The Sept. 26 ruptures of the seabed pipelines, spewing gas into the ocean that bubbled to the surface in the week that followed, triggered warnings of public hazard and fears of environmental damage.

 

A section measuring at least 50 meters (164 feet) is missing from Nord Stream 1, Swedish daily Expressen reported on Oct. 18 after filming what it said were the first publicly released images of the damage.

 

Russia’s defense ministry last month said that British navy personnel blew up the pipelines, a claim that London said was false and designed to distract from Russian military failures in Ukraine.

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried sold a stake in the company worth $300 million when the crypto exchange raised capital last year, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing the firm's financial records and people familiar with the transaction. At the time, Bankman-Fried told investors it was a partial reimbursement of money he'd spent to buy out rival Binance’s stake in FTX a few months earlier, the report added. Bankman-Fried and FTX did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment on the matter. The nationwide core consumer price index (CPI), which excludes volatile fresh food prices but includes energy, rose 3.6% year on year in October, versus a 3.5% rise expected by economists, and accelerating from the prior month's 3.0% gain. The jump marked the fastest gain since February 1982. It also confirmed CPI growth remained above the Bank of Japan's (BOJ) 2% inflation goal for a seventh straight month.

 

Despite broadening price pressures, which are a growing concern for households, however, the BOJ would not join a global trend of tightening monetary policy through rate hikes. BOJ Gov. Haruhiko Kuroda reiterated on Thursday a pledge to maintain monetary stimulus to support a fragile economy facing still weak inflation and reeling from the COVID downturn. Kuroda has argued that global commodity costs account for half the factors for price hikes and that cost-push inflation would not last long. Japan's consumer inflation would likely reach 3% for the current fiscal year end to next March, but the pace would fall to half that rate next year as commodity and other cost-push factors run their course, Kuroda has said. In a sign subcontractors are struggling with wholesale price pressures, the corporate goods price index (CGPI) jumped 9.1% in the year to October.

And if you see it that way, you can continue to go on with your lives, not being held down in the quagmire, in the muck, of the third-dimensional illusionary expression. For you are beyond that now.

 

We have told you, you are no longer in the third-dimensional expression, except when you let yourselves be there. You let yourselves become disheartened. And you let yourself become discouraged, disillusioned.

 

But when you find yourself in the fourth dimension, and even fifth dimension, then all that is happening external to you has very little meaning to you in your life. That is where you need to continue to be: in the higher expression of the fourth and fifth dimensions.

 

And when you can be in that fifth-dimensional expression, you feel the bliss. You feel the letting go process where you can literally go with the flow, as you have heard many times. Just go with the flow of creation, of life, of love. Just go with it.

 

And If you do that, when you do that, you will continue to find yourselves flying high, soaring into the heavens with your own being. Because you will no longer be held back. Held back by the hatred, held back by the old programming of fear, of jealousy, and all of the other various emotions that can beseech you in the third-dimensional illusionary expression. That is not where you want to be now.

 

Of course, certain moments of your life, the old programming will come up. And when it comes up, become aware of it, as just that: memories holding programming that continues to move you in certain directions, continues to move your ego to assert itself. Because it can still continue to maintain control.

 

But as you know, you are taking control of your ego more and more. And when you do that, your ego will step aside, and will let the higher levels of yourself come forward. That is where you are all headed now, all working toward. All being trained to be ready to accept the changes within yourself.

 

And there are many, many changes that are happening within all of you now.

 

Yes, there are changes outside of yourself in the external world, certainly, but there are so many changes that are happening within you, within your DNA processes, with your DNA reconnecting to bring about much more change within you. And in doing so, without you even knowing it most of the time. But there are those moments, whether in your dream state or your waking state, that you become aware, more fully aware that you are so much more than just this physical body, this consciousness within a physical body. Because it is your consciousness first, and then your physical form.

 

Continue now, each and every day, moving forward now, even each and every moment, moving forward with your various thought processes. Keep thinking in positive fashion, knowing that everything is indeed working out for the greater good of all of the collective consciousness of man.

 

And as everything continues on, you are going to find what we have said many times, nothing can stop what is coming. You will fully learn the full ramifications of that, and why we have been saying this. Why you have been hearing it from so many different sources. Democratic New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is being criticized for spending more than $50,000 in taxpayer money on security services and another $175,000 in campaign funds on a personal stylist and shopper.

 

According to WWL-TV, at least two stores in the New Orleans area have received subpoenas from a federal grand jury and have been questioned by the FBI about purchases made by Cantrell's personal shopper, Tanya Blunt-Haynes.

 

Cantrell's communications director, Gregory Joseph, told NOLA.com, "Our office has not received nor has any knowledge of a federal investigation into Mayor Cantrell. However, in the event that this changes, our office will, as always, fully cooperate with any and all agency inquiries."

 

Cantrell's campaign manager would not comment on the matter, the news outlet reported.

 

This controversy comes one month after Cantrell came under fire for using taxpayer money to purchase first-class plane tickets to Europe in January 2021. The mayor, who earns $188,000 annually, initially refused to reimburse the city for the $29,000 upgrade but eventually caved.

 

She claimed that her expensive travel accommodations were "a matter of safety, not of luxury."

 

"Anyone who wants to question how I protect myself just doesn't understand the world Black women walk in," Cantrell stated.

 

Cantrell, who had not hired security services from 2019 to the beginning of 2021, is stirring up controversy for recently spending more than $50,000 this year on bodyguard services only after bringing Officer Jeffrey Vappie onto her executive protection team in May 2021.

 

According to WVUE-DT, five months after hiring Vappie, Cantrell brought an officer with her for the first time on a trip to Scotland. For another trip, Cantrell brought Vappie as her security to Los Angeles, where the two attended a fundraising dinner with Brad Pitt at a Beverly Hills mansion.

 

"The timeline doesn't really make any sense," political analyst Robert Collins told WVUE-DT. "So, the taxpayers are going to ask, 'OK, well, if you really need protection, why didn't you have protection on the earlier trips? Why don't you have protection when you're walking by yourself in the French Quarter? Why are you selectively choosing when to have a protective detail and when not to have a protective detail?'"

Democratic Senators Urges FTC to Probe Twitter Following Musk’s ‘Alarming Steps’

 

A group of U.S. senators called on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to consider an investigation into whether Twitter breached its consent decree or consumer protection laws under new owner Elon Musk.

 

The seven Democrats, led by Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), wrote a letter to FTC Chair Lina Khan over what they called Twitter’s “serious, willful disregard for the safety and security of its users.”

 

In the letter dated Nov. 17, the lawmakers said Musk has taken “alarming steps” after the tech billionaire officially acquired Twitter at the end of last month.

 

“In recent weeks, Twitter’s new Chief Executive Officer, Elon Musk, has taken alarming steps that have undermined the integrity and safety of the platform, and announced new features despite clear warnings those changes would be abused for fraud, scams, and dangerous impersonation,” read the letter.

 

The new features, such as Twitter Blue, an $8 blue-check subscription service, resulted in fake accounts impersonating President Joe Biden, senators, and other big brands, according to the letter.

 

Additionally, the group wrote that a departure of key executives in Twitter, including the heads of cybersecurity and privacy, called into question “whether personal data is adequately protected from misuse or breach.”

 

“We are concerned that the actions taken by Mr. Musk and others in Twitter management could already represent a violation of the FTC’s consent decree,” read the letter.

 

Prior to Musk’s takeover of the company, the agency was “already on notice” about the allegation of Twitter’s “inadequate security practice,” from Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, a whistleblower who had served as Twitter’s head of security before being fired earlier this year, according to the letter.

 

“We urge the Commission vigorously oversee its consent decree with Twitter and to bring enforcement actions against any breaches or business practices that are unfair or deceptive, including bringing civil penalties and imposing liability on individual Twitter executives where appropriate.”

 

The letter was co-signed by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Sen. Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), and Bob Menendez (D-N.J.).

 

The FTC declined to comment. Twitter didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

 

A spokesperson for FTC said last week the agency has been closely watching Twitter’s moves under Musk.

 

“We are tracking recent developments at Twitter with deep concern,” read the statement issued on Nov. [11]. “No CEO or company is above the law, and companies must follow our consent decrees.”

 

In recent days, several top executives in Twitter publicly announced their departure from the company, such as chief information security officer Lea Kissner and Yoel Roth, the head of safety and integrity who was reportedly involved in blocking sharing posts about Hunter Biden ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

 

The letter also came after Musk introduced a permanent ban on impersonators to fight trolls who got “blue check” verification badges by taking advantage of the Twitter Blue service. Musk said that “any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying ‘parody’ will be permanently suspended.”

 

The Twitter Blue subscription service is part of the tech mogul’s efforts to help the social media company’s revenue. Musk previously said Twitter is losing $4 million per day.

Philadelphia Man Charged with Forging Signatures on 2019 Election Papers

 

A Philadelphia political consultant was arrested Wednesday for charges related to forging signatures on political nomination petitions to get his clients on the ballot for the 2019 Democratic primary in Philadelphia.

 

Rasheen Crews, 46, was the subject of an investigation by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General that started in September 2019. It is not clear why the charges are coming three years later. According to a criminal complaint, the investigation happened largely in the spring of 2021.

 

The investigation happened under Pennsylvania Governor-elect Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, who is still the state attorney general until the end of the year.

 

The investigation found that in 2019, multiple candidates allegedly hired Crews to help them get the required number of signatures needed for their nomination petitions to get on the ballot for Democratic primary races.

 

Signatures must be from citizens who live in the area a candidate will represent. The number of needed signatures varies, depending on which office a candidate seeks. Competing candidates often scrutinize the signatures to see if any should be removed.

 

Crews allegedly recruited individuals to help with the petition work, bringing them to a hotel room and asking them to write names, addresses, and forged signatures on multiple petitions, according to the Attorney General’s office. He then allegedly had these petitions notarized and filed with the Pennsylvania Department of State on behalf of his clients.

 

Over 1,000 Signatures Deemed Duplicated

Of the petitions that were reviewed, over 1,000 signatures were determined to be duplicated. Many names and addresses were found repeated on various petition pages, some pages appeared to be photocopied entirely, and some of the listed individuals claimed to have never signed the petitions.

 

Because of the questions around the petition signatures, some candidates chose to withdraw from the election, according to the Attorney General’s office.

 

Crews was charged with criminal solicitation to commit forgery and theft by failure to make required disposition.

 

“In advance of the 2023 municipal elections, this arrest is an important reminder that interfering with the integrity of our elections is a serious crime,” Shapiro said in a press release.

 

“By soliciting and organizing the wide scale forgery of signatures, the defendant undermined the democratic process and Philadelphians’ right to a free and fair election. My office is dedicated to upholding the integrity of the election process across the Commonwealth, to ensure everyone can participate in Pennsylvania’s future.”

 

This matter is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Thomas Ost-Prisco.

Dozens of documents connected to late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s associates will be released to the general public following a judge’s ruling on Friday that the public interest overrides the right to privacy, Daily Mail reported.

 

This morning Judge Loretta Preska (in the civil suit of Giufre v. Maxwell) ordered the unsealing of dozens of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents. Judge Preska is a senior judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

 

This latest ruling came in response to efforts by eight (8) “John/Jane Doe” third parties who petitioned the Court, demanding that scores of records be sealed and kept from the public to preserve the “Does'” reputations.

 

Judge Preska ruled that the documents pertaining to eight people could be released, despite objections from the “Does,” one of which was apparently unmasked in the hearing as Tom Pritzker, billionaire executive chairman of the Hyatt Hotels. Lawyers for Pritzker had argued that unsealing the records would “wrongfully affect (his) privacy and reputation.”

Among those whose names are mentioned in the documents are Emmy Tayler, Ghislaine Maxwell‘s former personal assistant, who was accused of taking part in the sexual abuse of minors.

However, something truly bizarre and unexpected happened.

 

An anonymous John Doe – literally styled by his lawyer as “John Doe” – filed an objection to TGP unsealing the sex client list … and the Court SIDED WITH THE JOHN DOE over the interests of the press and public to know what happens in one of the most remarkable court cases in US history.

 

We now know there are at least sixteen (16) “John / Jane Does.”

 

Today Judge Loretta Preska announced that the majority of material concerning eight of the “Does” should be unsealed despite objections relating to privacy and reputation.

Iranian protesters set fire to Ayatollah Khomeini's house

Protesters in Iran have set fire to the ancestral home of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

 

Images posted on social media show part of the structure in the city of Khomein being set ablaze.

 

News agencies have verified the videos' location, but regional authorities denied there had been an arson attack.

 

Ayatollah Khomeini is said to have been born in the house, which is now a museum that commemorates his life.

 

Khomeini was the leader of Iran's Islamic revolution in 1979, which deposed the country's pro-Western leader, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and ushered in the theocratic state that still exists today.

 

He served as the first supreme leader of Iran until his death in 1989, which is still marked by a day of mourning each year.

 

Social media videos from Khomein show dozens of people cheering as the fire breaks out. An activist network said the footage was taken on Thursday evening.

 

However, Khomein county's press office denied there had been any attack to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

 

The agency said a small number of people had gathered outside the house and later shared a video of the house, saying it was open to "pilgrims and lovers of the deceased Imam".

 

"The doors of the house of the late founder of the great revolution are open to the public," the agency added.

 

The fire at his ancestral house is one of the latest incidents in a wave of nationwide demonstrations directed at his successor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and his government.

 

The protests against Iran's clerical establishment erupted two months ago after the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who was detained by morality police for allegedly breaking the strict hijab rules.

 

Five members of the security forces were killed in the latest unrest on Thursday, according to Iranian state media.

 

Meanwhile, funerals for young Iranians said to have been killed by security forces sparked fresh demonstrations on Friday.

 

Crowds chanting "death to Ali Khamenei" gathered in the south-western city of Izeh for the funeral of a nine-year-old boy, Kian Pirfalak, who was shot dead by security forces, according to his family, although officials have denied this.

 

There were further protests in the cities of Tabriz, Mahabad and Zahedan over civilian deaths blamed on security forces.

Jack Smith, the Justice Department’s newly appointed special counsel, will come to the task of investigating former President Donald J. Trump with a wealth of experience: He has been prosecuting criminal cases for nearly three decades.

 

Mr. Smith got his start in the 1990s as a prosecutor in the Manhattan district attorney’s office and soon moved to a similar job at the United States Attorney’s office in Brooklyn. There, he served in a number of supervisory positions, according to his Justice Department biography, and worked on an assortment of cases, many involving public corruption.

 

From 2008 to 2010, Mr. Smith worked as the investigation coordinator in the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. In that role, he oversaw high-profile inquiries of foreign government officials and militia members wanted for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

 

Returning to the United States, Mr. Smith served from 2010 to 2015 as chief of the Justice Department’s public integrity section, which investigates politicians and other public figures on corruption allegations.

 

Two of Mr. Smith’s more notable corruption cases against high-profile political figures had opposite results. His team initially won a conviction against the former Gov. Robert McDonnell of Virginia, a Republican, but the Supreme Court overturned it.

 

It also won a conviction of former Representative Rick Renzi, Republican of Arizona, who was sentenced to three years in prison. (Mr. Trump pardoned Mr. Renzi among a flurry of clemency actions in January 2021, in his last hours as president.)

 

When Mr. Smith took over the public integrity section, it was reeling from the collapse of a criminal case against former Senator Ted Stevens, Republican of Alaska. In Mr. Smith’s first few months on the job, the section closed several prominent investigations into members of Congress without charges.

 

But in an interview that year with The New York Times, Mr. Smith denied that the section on his watch had lost its nerve.

 

“I understand why the question is asked,” Mr. Smith said at the time. “But if I were the sort of person who could be cowed — ‘I know we should bring this case, I know the person did it, but we could lose, and that will look bad’ — I would find another line of work. I can’t imagine how someone who does what I do or has worked with me could think that.”

 

A graduate of Harvard Law School, Mr. Smith has also worked in top positions at the United States Attorney’s office for the Middle District of Tennessee in Nashville.
