More than a dozen passengers and crew members became so sick on a Delta flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles, the plane had to be diverted to Oklahoma City. The cause of the mass illness remains a mystery, but the FAA is investigating, according to KOCO. Nine of the 197 passengers on board reported feeling dizzy and having sudden headaches, and one child started vomiting. Four flight attendants were taken off the plane with oxygen masks, according to witnesses, and brought to the hospital.

The 13-year-old son of a controversial Florida data scientist was arrested Wednesday and accused of threatening to shoot up his former middle school.

 

The boy is the son of Rebekah Jones, a scientist and fierce critic of Gov. Ron DeSantis, who claimed she was fired from the state's health department in 2020 for refusing to censor Floridaโ€™s Covid-19 numbers.

 

Her son, who is not being named as he is a minor, was charged with written or electronic threat to conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism, a second-degree felony, the Santa Rosa County Sheriffโ€™s Office arrest report said.

 

The arrest report shows that several students in the area of Navarre, Florida, reported seeing Jones' son's alleged threatening memes and messages on Snapchat and Discord โ€” but his mother suggests that his arrest was politically motivatedโ€ฆ

 

Jones suggests her family is being 'targeted'

 

After her son's arrest, Rebekah Jones tweeted Wednesday: โ€œMy family is not safe. My son has been taken on the govโ€™s orders, and Iโ€™ve had to send my husband and daughter out of state for their safety.โ€

 

She's shared several posts on Twitter regarding her son's arrest, insinuating that it may be related to a lawsuit she filed on March 13 in Leon County, Florida, against the Florida Department of Health. The suit, filed under the state whistleblower act, seeks to have her job reinstated and monetary damagesโ€ฆ

 

She said that one week after she filed the lawsuit, โ€œa kid claiming to be the cousin of one of my sonโ€™s classmates joined their snapchat group. They recorded their conversations, and anonymously reported my son to police for sharing a popular internet meme,โ€ which she claimed wasnโ€™t threatening.

 

She said a threat assessment was launched into the complaint and the matter culminated with her sonโ€™s arrest Wednesday.

 

She appeared to point blame to local politics on Thursday, tweeting: โ€œEverything my son has struggled with these last two years came from DeSantis personally targeting my family for blowing up his COVID success story lie.โ€

 

By Thursday evening, Jones tweeted: "My son is home with me now and sleeping."

 

Jones was flung into the spotlight in 2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

At the time, she operated as a website and dashboard designer for Florida tracking the coronavirus pandemic. She claimed she was asked to falsify Covid positivity rates or misrepresent them on the stateโ€™s dashboard.

 

Gov. Ron DeSantis has criticized Jones, and his office said she was fired in May 2020 for repeated โ€œinsubordination.โ€

 

A report from the Florida Department of Healthโ€™s Office of Inspector General said it found โ€œinsufficient evidenceโ€ or no evidence to support Rebekah Jonesโ€™ accusations.

IOPPD:

18-year-old and juvenile arrested following Isle of Palms beach shooting

April 8th 2023, 9:14 AM EDT

 

According to the affidavit, the IOPPD and Charleston County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) were patrolling the area for shooting suspects when they located Goods-Martin, who matched an eyewitness description. The police located a Glock 29 handgun in Goods-Martin's waistband and Goods-Martin admitted being in possession of the firearm.

 

Shawn Alexander Goods-Martin, 18, was one of the two individuals arrested, according to the Isle of Palms Police Department (IOPPD). He is charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon. As of 8:54, police have not determined if he was involved in the actual shooting.

 

Police say the second individual is a juvenile whose name has not been released.

On Saturday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he was working to pardon Daniel Perry, the former Army sergeant found guilty of murder on Friday for the shooting of Garrett Foster during a 2020 Black Lives Matter protest.

 

Perry was driving Uber at the time and encountered an armed BLM group that had taken over the streets of Austin, Texas during a riot on July 25, 2020. Perry, fired five shots from inside of his vehicle, hitting Foster. Foster did not fire a shot. Another member of the group fired three shots at the vehicle, but did not hit anyone.

 

Both Perry and the other shooter were detained following the incident.

American Mechanic Kidnapped in Mexico

 

An American mechanic was kidnapped off the street in Mexicali, Mexico in broad daylight in January.

 

Edgar โ€œPolvosโ€ Perez Chairez, a 35-year-old California native, was taken by suspects shortly before noon on January 4.

 

The FBI is now offering a $10,000 reward for information on the kidnapping.

The 13-year-old son of former Democratic congressional candidate and former Florida Health Department staffer Rebekah Jones, was charged with a second-degree felony for allegedly threatening online to shoot up his school, according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office.

 

Jones is also known for being a "COVID whistleblower" in 2020 who claimed she was fired for not manipulating COVID-19 numbers to politically benefit the DeSantis administration.

 

Last December, Jones pleaded guilty to a felony with a deferred prosecution agreement for accessing a state computer system without authorization. She ended up signing a plea deal and agreed to pay $20,000, plus to see a licensed mental health professional at least once a month.

 

Prosecutors had alleged that Jones used her access to the state computer system to send a mass text calling for state employees to speak out against Florida's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the jury found him guilty of murder, they acquitted him of aggravated assault, according to Kxan. The deadly incident occurred on July 25, 2020, when Perry steered his vehicle onto a crowded Austin street wherein protesters were marching. Many individuals began to surround the car, one of whom was Garrrett Foster, who was carrying an AK-47 rifle at the time.

 

Perry opened fire, killing Foster and prompting a nearby gunman to fire on his vehicle, though that individual inflicted no injuries. Foster himself never fired his weapon. Perry had claimed self-defense, saying that Foster had raised his weapon prior to his own firing. Witnesses disputed that claim though the trial saw no video evidence to corroborate or refute it.

 

Perry did not testify during the trial.

 

Foster's father, Stephen, celebrated the verdict, saying "[w]e are happy with the verdict and also very sorry for (Perry's) family as well," per the Austin American-Statesman.

Sgt. Perry encountered a large group of protesters in 2020 when he was driving for Uber to make extra money. They were illegally blocking city streets that night, according to police.

 

One of the protesters was 28-year-old Garrett Foster, who was carrying an AK-47. Perry's defense team argued that Foster raised a firearm at Perry, prompting him to open fire with a handgun he legally carried for self-defense.

 

Perry ended up shooting Foster, drove to a safe location away from the scene and called 911 to report what had happened.

 

One year later, in 2021, a grand jury returned an indictment for murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Perry could face life in prison.
