My Dad was a genius mechanic, he loved Fords. He actually rebuilt a 1926 ford Model T in his 70s, he found almost all original parts around the country. It took many years and was in perfect condition when finished. He drove it around town and donated it. He also restored a very old Ford Fire Engine. What a brilliant man. I miss him greatly.

ROME โ€” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently published a sharp letter excoriating the Vaticanโ€™s plans to renew an agreement with the Chinese government on Church operations in China. He promoted the article in a tweet, concluding, โ€œThe Vatican endangers its moral authority, should it renew the deal.โ€

 

An indignant Vatican took the article more as a calculated affront than a diplomatic gesture. The friction broke into the open on Wednesday as Mr. Pompeo arrived in Rome and met with prelates and others who are hostile to Pope Francis, while the Vatican denied him a meeting with the pontiff and rebuffed his efforts to derail the deal with China.

 

โ€œPompeo asked to meetโ€ the pope, who turned him down because Francis had โ€œclearly said that he does not receive political figures ahead of the elections,โ€ Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who, as secretary of state, is the Vaticanโ€™s second-ranking official, told reporters.

 

But to some observers on both sides of the tensions between the Roman Catholic Church and the Trump administration, Mr. Pompeoโ€™s visit is as much about the coming presidential election as about China policy. Mr. Pompeo dismissed that suggestion as absurd, but intended or not, his trip signals that President Trump is on the side of those conservative American Catholics who worry about the churchโ€™s direction under Francis and think he is soft on China.

 

Francis and Mr. Trump, who have exchanged sharp words in the past, present starkly different visions on issues ranging from the environment to immigration to the threat of populism. In appealing to the Vaticanโ€™s support for religious freedom as a reason to drop its China agreement, Mr. Pompeo seemed to seek common ground, but in a way that upset the popeโ€™s chief allies and delighted his chief critics.

 

Cardinal Parolin said Mr. Pompeoโ€™s article had caused โ€œsurpriseโ€ at the Vatican, because this visit to Rome by the secretary and the meetings with high officials at the Holy See had already been in the works and would have been a โ€œmore opportuneโ€ forum for airing grievances. He added that Mr. Pompeoโ€™s choice to publish in First Things, a conservative Christian magazine that has called Francis a failure as Pope, also mattered.

Yeah that was the olden days. He got original parts and some duplicates he had made. My Dad was extremely detailed oriented. He didnโ€™t want any fakes. He worked hard to find mostly original parts and had to restore the old ones also.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A leading U.S. anti-abortion group on Tuesday warned Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump not to water down language in the party platform on abortion restrictions, the most visible sign yet of a widening fissure between Trump and social conservatives on the issue.

The reproach by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America president Marjorie Dannenfelser comes as party members head to Milwaukee to draft the platform, which serves as a statement of policy principles, ahead of what is intended to be a national show of unity at the party's convention this month.

 

For weeks, anti-abortion activists have been expressing concerns that the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee would work to weaken language in the platform by eliminating any reference to a federal role in restricting abortion.

 

Trump has said the issue should be left solely to state legislatures in the wake of a U.S. Supreme Court decision in 2022 that gutted constitutional protection for the procedure. He has argued that is a more politically tenable position, with polls showing a majority of Americans broadly backing abortion rights.

 

In a statement on Tuesday, Dannenfelser said the longtime, battle-tested alliance between the grassroots anti-abortion movement and the Republican, or GOP, Party was in jeopardy.

 

"If the Trump campaign decides to remove national protections for the unborn in the GOP platform, it would be a miscalculation that would hurt party unity and destroy pro-life enthusiasm between now and the election," Dannenfelser said.

 

Members of the Republican Party's platform committee are scheduled to meet privately in Milwaukee ahead of the July 15-18 convention, where Trump will be formally tapped as the party's presidential nominee for the Nov. 5 election against President Joe Biden, a Democrat who is campaigning in favor of abortion rights.

 

In her statement, Dannenfelser suggested that anti-abortion groups were being shut out of the process of crafting the platform.

 

"We are now just two business days away from the platform committee meeting and no assurances have been made," she said. "Instead, every indication is that the campaign will muscle through changes behind closed doors."

 

Danielle Alvarez, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, said no definitive decisions had been made on the platform's contents.

A new wave of bankruptcies shakes the Catholic Church in California6 24 2024

Six Roman Catholic dioceses in California seek bankruptcy protections after victims of clergy sexual abuse were allowed to seek compensation in civil courts.

The Child Victims Act, approved in 2019, allowed for victims of clergy sexual abuse to seek justice in civil courts in California.

A law crafted after that Act in California, allowed E. Jean Carroll to prove she was the victim of Donald Trump in New York courts.

A new wave of news about bankruptcies in Roman Catholic dioceses of California is sweeping the Internet these days. According to Religion News Service, the new wave involves more than 3,000 cases.

It is not that new cases are emerging at the rate they were back at the height of the clergy sexual abuse crisis, in the aughts. In California, the new wave of bankruptcies in the Catholic Church are the by-product of a major change in the understanding of the reasons behind sexual abuse.

 

ยซIn 2018, the California Legislature approved AB 218, a bill that lifted the statute of limitations for three years on child sex abuse litigation and allowed survivors to file suits regardless of when the abuse occurred. That three-year โ€œwindowโ€ for filing cases that otherwise would have been barred closed on December 31, 2022ยป.

 

AB 2018 is the California Assembly Bill 218, a law also known as The Child Victims Act, approved back in in October 2019. Until 2022, the law allowed people who was sexually assaulted as a minor to file civil lawsuits although the statute of limitations had already expired.

A Texas prosecutor says a former Southern Baptist youth pastor sexually abused children in a โ€œviolent wayโ€ and is a โ€œdanger to society.โ€

Luke Cunningham, 41, remains in the Lubbock County jail held on $500,000 bail on a complaint of sexually aggravated sexual assault and two counts of child sexual assault.

As reported earlier by The Roys Report (TRR) these accusations coincide with when Cunningham served as the student pastor at Turning Point Community Church in Lubbock from 2016 to 2020.

Cunningham has been at the center of a Lubbock Police Department investigation for sexual misconduct since 2021.

As first reported in the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal an investigation indicates Cunninghamโ€™s destructive behavior goes back to at least 2013.

Prosecutor Cassie Graham told the court during a hearing on Monday, โ€œHe is clearly a danger to society.โ€

Police reports and statements from the teens detailing a pattern of violent sexual abuse were produced during the hearing, the paper reported.

Graham told the court that one girl accused Cunningham of slapping and choking her to unconsciousness while he raped her, the Avalanche-Journal reported.

Cunningham would allegedly โ€œthreaten any young man in the youth groupโ€ with romantic inclinations to the girls, the newspaper reported.

There were allegations of abuse from a potential third victim accusing Cunningham of throwing her against a vending machine and holding her down on the floor when she didnโ€™t โ€œgive him the attention he wanted,โ€ the paper reported.

Several Elders from Gateway Church, the largest church in the country, have taken a leave of absence following the revelation that senior pastor Robert Morris molested a child and then covered it up, according to a statement from the church.

Noting that โ€œA leave of absence in no way whatsoever assumes or implies that any Elder had any knowledge of the true facts related to this situation,โ€ Gateway reveals that the recommendation for absence affects three men โ€œKevin Grove, Steve Dulin, and Gayland Lawsheโ€ who Gateway insist are โ€œmen of integrity who have served Gateway Church with distinction, and each of these three Elders has clearly stated that they had no knowledge of the true facts of this situation.โ€

Morrisโ€™s son, Pastor James Morris, who was recently appointed to take over the church from his father, is also taking a break due to his closeness with his father, which could be a conflict of interest.
