3I/ATLAS and R2 SWAN Are Behaving The Same Way

Two objects in our solar system are displaying strikingly similar characteristics, and the timing has observers asking questions.
3I/ATLAS, the interstellar visitor that has been tracked for months, and R2 SWAN, an object that appeared seemingly out of nowhere, are both glowing green, both displaying sunward-facing tails, and both positioned on opposite sides of Earth at the exact same time.
R2 SWAN was discovered on September 11th, 2025, by Ukrainian astronomer Vladimir Bezugly while examining images from the SWAN instrument aboard the SOHO spacecraft.
According to reports, what made this discovery unusual was the timing. Bezugly found the object just one day before it reached its closest approach to the Sun on September 12th, at a distance of approximately 75 million kilometers, which is half the distance between Earth and the Sun.
The object had been hidden behind the Sun’s glare, sitting within 30 degrees of the Sun between August 8th and September 13th, making it too close for most telescopes to observe.
Within days of discovery, R2 SWAN’s brightness surged from magnitude 11 to 7.4, with its tail stretching an astonishing 2 degrees across space. Its apparent behavior veered away from everything seen in decades of comet tracking.
Both R2 SWAN and 3I/ATLAS display a distinctive greenish glow, which comes from diatomic carbon, also called C2, a gas that glows under sunlight.
While this is normal comet behavior, both objects have also displayed what appears to be sunward-facing tails.
According to a paper published through the Astronomers Telegram in November, R2 SWAN’s anti-tail formation resulted from larger dust particles that remain near the orbital plane and project as a sunward-pointing feature when viewed from certain angles. However, with most comets this anti-tail is an optical illusion based on viewing geometry.
According to Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb, 3I/ATLAS’s sunward jet is not an optical illusion, which makes it stand out from thousands of known comets.
Geophysicist Stefan Burns noted that R2 SWAN is becoming more and more similar to 3I/ATLAS day by day, with both objects strategically positioned in what some have described as a pincer maneuver, a military term for flanking from both sides.
Per analysis from NASA’s Peter Veres, highlighted by Avi Loeb, these two objects came from completely different directions. R2 SWAN originated from the direction of the Aquarius constellation, while 3I/ATLAS arrived from Sagittarius near the galactic center.
They are two completely separate objects that happen to be in our solar system at the same time.
R2 SWAN is now fading as it moves away from the Sun and Earth, and its fragmentation means it may become even harder to observe in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, 3I/ATLAS continues its journey toward Jupiter with a closest approach to Earth coming on December 19th.
The question remains: why are we seeing so much activity in our solar system right now? Is this statistical noise, or are we finally paying attention to what has always been there?

Comet C/2025 K1 ATLAS continues to amaze us. This morning, we spotted a new fragment, with hints for a possible second one.
The image above comes from the sigma-clipping combination of 12, 60-second unfiltered exposures, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST-10XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy.
In the image above we see a new fragment just in front of the brightest component, with hints of a possible second one (or a cloud of debris) just after the latter.

Newly Found Organics in Enceladus’ Plumes

Dramatic plumes, both large and small, spray water ice out from many locations along the famed tiger stripes near the south pole of Saturn’s moon Enceladus in this image released on Feb. 23, 2010.
A study published in October 2025 analyzed data from NASA’s Cassini mission and found evidence of previously undetected organic compounds in a plume of ice particles like the ones seen here.
The ice particles were ejected from the ocean that lies under Enceladus’ frozen shell. Researchers spotted not only molecules they’ve found before but also new ones that lay a potential path to chemical or biochemical activity.

World’s first commercial space science satellite launched successfully

The first private space science satellite set to study the impact of flares from stars has been launched into space and is now in orbit, the company behind it has said.
Blue Skies Space, a space science data company headquartered in London, said its satellite was launched on a Space X Falcon 9 in California at 6.45pm on Friday.
The company said the satellite, which is the size of a microwave and is called Mauve, is equipped with a microscope and will observe stellar flares and exoplanets.
Blue Skies Space will share the data Mauve collects to research institutions which are part of its subscription service, including Boston and Columbia universities.
“Mauve will open a new window on stellar activity that has previously been largely hidden from view,” said Professor Giovanna Tinetti, chief scientist at Blue Skies Space.
“By observing stars in ultraviolet light, wavelengths that can’t be studied from Earth, we’ll gain a much deeper understanding of how stars behave and how their flares may impact the environment of orbiting exoplanets.
“Traditional ground-based telescopes just can’t capture this information, so a satellite like Mauve is crucial for furthering our knowledge.”
Dr Marcell Tessenyi, chief executive of Blue Skies Space, added: “Our vision is to make space science data as accessible as possible.”

China's space authority sets up new department to oversee commercial space sector

The China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced on Saturday that it has recently set up a new department dedicated to overseeing the rapidly growing commercial space sector.
The establishment of the commercial space department marks a significant step in providing specialized regulation for the industry, which is expected to consistently promote high-quality development and benefit the entire industrial chain, the CNSA said.
In recent years, China's commercial space sector has achieved historic progress, driven by supportive policies, technological breakthroughs, and market demand, through collaborative innovation across the industrial chain.
A CNSA official stated that the number of commercial space enterprises in China has now surpassed 600. The sector's development potential is being steadily unlocked while ensuring safety.
The CNSA recently released an action plan to promote the high-quality and safe development of commercial space from 2025 to 2027. The plan aims to integrate commercial space into the country's overall space development layout.

Satellites capture aftermath of Ethiopian volcano's 1st eruption in recorded history

Hayli Gubbi volcano in Northern Ethiopia erupted on Sunday (Nov. 23) for the first time in nearly 12,000 years, causing havoc in villages nearby. Satellite imagery detailed billowing plumes of pale ash stretching across the arid region.
Before Sunday, the volcano's last known eruption roughly coincided with the beginning of our current Holocene Epoch, when the last ice age came to close after 2.6 million years.
No deaths have been reported from Hayli Gubbi's eruption, but villages located in the remote district of Afdera became caked in ash, impacting both homes and livestock, AP reports.
Abedella Mussa, a health official for the Afdera district, told AP that mobile medicinal services were dispatched from the Afar region to help the kebeles (neighborhoods) impacted by the eruption.
The massive clouds of ash that erupted 8.7 miles (14 km) into the sky drifted to Pakistan and Northern India, causing flight cancellations for a few days during the week, and began moving toward China.
Atalay Ayele, a seismologist and researcher at the Institute of Geophysics, Space Science and Astronomy at Addis Ababa University, told Reuters that Ethiopia is home to about 50 active volcanoes.
"At any time, these volcanoes can be active or can show manifestations of activity," Ayele said in the Reuters report.
While there were no scientific forecasts for the event, locals told Al Jazeera reporters that they had noticed a little smoke coming from Hayli Gubbi in the days leading up to the eruption.
Hayli Gubbi's eruption isn’t the first time Ethiopia has seen volcanic activity this year. Erta Ale volcano in the Afar region, known for decades of continuous volcanic activity that has created an ongoing lava lake, saw reports of a dense black cloud rising from the volcano in mid-July 2025.
Hayli Gubbi’s activity this week has reportedly ceased as of Friday (Nov. 28).

Space Force trainees to be first to graduate in new dress uniform

A group of Space Force trainees was the first basic training class to receive the service’s new dress uniform and will wear it during a graduation ceremony next month at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Air Force Base.
The trainees were fitted for the uniforms last week at Lackland’s clothing issue in advance of the Dec. 18 ceremony, according to the 37th Training Wing, which oversees basic military training for the Space Force at the Texas Air Force base.
The uniforms feature a dark blue jacket that buttons diagonally from the Guardian’s right shoulder and a tie of the same color. It is matched with a collared shirt and a gray skirt or pants.
The Space Force, which has roughly 9,400 members, announced in September that sizing for the service’s first dress uniform would begin by the end of the year after the uniform spent about four years in development.
Since Space Force’s establishment in 2019, its members have primarily worn the Air Force’s dress uniform.
“Our service dress uniform represents the unique identity of Guardians, blending heritage with a modern design that reflects our unity and mission,” Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman said in a statement.
“From the start, Guardian feedback shaped its design and fit. I know the force will wear it with pride.”
Guardians are not yet required to order the uniform, and a mandatory wear-date is still pending, according to the service.
Once the uniform is widely issued, Space Force officials will give members one year to order the uniform and prepare for its full implementation.
The first opportunity for pre-orders went to recruiters, training instructors, December graduates of the Reserve Officer Training Corps, Honor Guard members, White House social aides and senior leaders.
Online ordering should open to all in January with delivery expected in June, the service said.

Sea drone strike halts operations at global oil terminal

A major crude hub on Russia’s Black Sea coast that handles around 80% of Kazakhstan’s oil exports has suspended operations after a mooring at its terminal near Novorossiysk was heavily damaged in an attack, its operator, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), said on Saturday.
There was no immediate confirmation of who carried out the strike, which follows a series of Ukrainian attacks on internationally-owned energy infrastructure in Russia.
In September, Ukrainian drones hit the port of Novorossiysk, damaging the CPC’s office. In February, drones targeted the consortium-operated Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station.
According to Interfax-Ukraine, citing a Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) source, the most recent incident was a strike on two Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea, both hit by naval drones.
“As a result of a targeted terrorist attack using unmanned boats at 4:06 a.m. Moscow time, Single Mooring Point 2 (SMP-2) sustained significant damage,” the CPC said in a statement on its website.
“At the time of the explosion, the facility’s emergency protection systems successfully shut off the relevant pipelines.
Preliminary reports indicate no oil has leaked into the Black Sea, and there are no injuries among staff.”
“Further operation of Mooring Point 2 is not possible,” it added.
The consortium, whose shareholders include major energy companies from Russia, the United States, Kazakhstan and several Western European countries, described the incident as an attack on infrastructure serving the interests of multiple states.
“No sanctions or restrictions have ever been imposed on the CPC, reflecting the company’s recognized role in safeguarding the interests of its Western shareholders,” the statement said.
Kazakhstan has activated an emergency plan to reroute crude through alternative pipelines following the disruption.
CPC said that the strike was the third act of aggression against a civilian facility protected under international law.
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) director, Aleksander Bortnikov, warned in October that Ukraine was preparing further attacks and acts of sabotage against internationally-owned energy assets.
The consortium was established in 1992 to build and operate the 1,500km Caspian Pipeline, which links oil fields in western Kazakhstan to a marine terminal in Novorossiysk and is a key route for exporting Kazakh crude.
Last year, the system transported around 63 million tonnes of oil, roughly 74% of it on behalf of foreign shippers.

Missile and drone attack on Kyiv: Injury toll rises to 27, two killed

The number of those injured in Russia's massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv on November 29 has risen to 27.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
"There are 27 injured as a result of the enemy's overnight attack on the capital," Klitschko said.
According to him, 17 people, including one child, have been hospitalized.
Two people were killed.
Initial reports indicated that 15 people were injured and two were killed in Kyiv as a result of the combined Russian attack.

Moldova briefly shuts airspace after new drone breach

Moldova closed its airspace for about an hour overnight following a drone incursion that its pro-European president denounced on Saturday, accusing Russia of flying across her country to attack civilians in neighbouring Ukraine.
The country, wedged between Ukraine and Romania, has repeatedly reported violations of its airspace since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Earlier this week, Moldova said a drone had crashed on its soil, with six drones in total overflying its territory.
The defence ministry said in a statement on Saturday airspace had been “closed for approximately one hour and 10 minutes” just before 11:00pm local time on Friday (2100 GMT).
The ministry said the “emergency measure” came after two unidentified drones illegally flew over Moldovan territory, “creating a direct threat to aviation safety”.
The ministry added that Moldovan radars had not detected the drones, but the incursion was “confirmed by the Ukrainian border authorities”.
“No objects, debris or elements posing a danger to the population have been identified and both drones have permanently left national airspace, moving deep into Ukrainian territory,” the interior ministry said.
However, two commercial flights were diverted to Romania during the incident and another plane preparing for leave from Chisinau was temporarily grounded, it said.
“Moldova strongly condemns these illegal and dangerous actions, which endangered the safety of civilian flights and human lives,” said the defence ministry, branding the violations as “hostile acts of intimidation and destabilisation”.
President Maia Sandu said in a post on X that the “brutal attack” was neither “the language of diplomacy, nor of a country claiming to negotiate peace”.
“On their way to kill civilians, Russian drones again violated Moldovan airspace… We condemn these attacks and stand with Ukraine,” she said.
On Wednesday, Moldova summoned the Russian envoy over the recent drone crash, handing him a protest note and placing the actual drone outside its foreign ministry.

I don't remember where I heard this but someone in podcast land gave an example about a planet in a similar situation to ours.
They went too fast with the disclosure, the people couldn't handle it and freaked out, eventually leading to revolting and worldiwde suffering.

As unsettling as it may sound, predicting the future based on one of the longest-running sitcoms in television history, we are gonna dive into our annual tradition of tuning in and asking the cartoon Nostradamus how 2026 will turn out to be.

IDF says it killed 3 Palestinians for crossing Gaza’s Yellow Line in two separate incidents

The IDF says it killed three Palestinians who crossed the Yellow Line demarcating the military’s withdrawal in two separate incidents in the southern Gaza Strip earlier today.
In the first incident, the military says two “suspects” were identified by troops of the Kfir Brigade crossing the line in the Khan Younis area, carrying out “suspicious activity in the ground,” and approaching the forces “in a way that posed an immediate threat.”
After the pair were identified, the Israeli Air Force struck and killed them “to remove the threat,” the IDF says. Palestinian media reported earlier that the two killed in the strike were young children.
In another incident, the IDF says troops of the Nahal Brigade identified a terror operative who crossed the Yellow Line in the Rafah area and approached the forces.
The soldiers “eliminated the terrorist to remove the threat,” the army says
