FBI Director’s Former Apparel Brand Hit by Malware

Two months after Iran-linked hackers exfiltrated FBI Director Kash Patel's personal email inbox, the government official's name is tangled up in another cyber incident - this time through a MAGA swag shop he founded.

A ClickFix attack on the Based Apparel site tried to trick shoppers into running a malicious command though a fake Cloudflare verification page on Thursday. The entire merchandise shop has been taken offline Friday.

A Twitter user named "debbie" first noted the malware. She told technology publication PCMag that she retrieved the malicious shell script payload, which was flagged malicious by 27 security vendors on VirusTotal.

The FBI in a statement said that "Based Apparel is no longer Director Patel’s website. Patel divested from any interest in it prior to being confirmed as FBI Director and does not profit from it." Based Apparel did not respond to a request for comment.

Hackers widely believed to be a front for Iranian intelligence in March broke into a Gmail account the FBI director once used (see: Handala Hacks FBI Director Kash Patel's Personal Email).

Based Apparel was co-founded by Patel and Andrew Ollis, a direct marketing entrepreneur who has many business ties with Patel. Although Patel resigned from the clothing store before February 2025, his name and graphics from his personal foundation are printed all over the shirts and hoodies at the shop.

The malicious page appeared to load when macOS users visited basedapparel.com/product-category/the-kash-foundation/, staging a Cloudflare turnstile that asked users to copy "I am not a robot: Cloudflare Verification ID: 801470" into their command line.

When clicking the copy button, an obfuscated line of hidden command was actually copied to the clipboard, and it would pull down an infostealer to take data from cryptocurrency wallets, session tokens, Keychain data and credentials stored in browsers.

"The ClickFix social engineering technique [is] growing in popularity, with campaigns targeting thousands of enterprise and end-user devices globally every day," Microsoft Threat Intelligence wrote in an analysis.

The third term is possible multiple ways.

The owner of a heavily decorated pro-Trump home in Southern California has died days after he was beaten to a pulp allegedly by a Navy veteran.

Kerry Sheron, a 69-year-old Army veteran known locally for covering his residence with MAGA banners and American flags, died Sunday night after nearly a week hospitalized in critical condition.

The attack happened May 20 outside Sheron’s home in Escondido, police said.

Prosecutors allege 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler attacked Sheron in what officials described as an unprovoked assault.

Butler, who has been described in local reports as a Navy veteran, has pleaded not guilty to charges including attempted murder, elder abuse, criminal threats and battery.

Deputy District Attorney Ross Garcia previously told the court that Sheron suffered catastrophic injuries during the incident.

“It was a single punch to the jaw,” Garcia said. “The victim then falls to the floor, and there are subsequent hits to the victim’s head area.”

Security footage obtained by local media allegedly showed Sheron standing outside his Buchanan Street home before the suspect approached and attacked him. A nearby witness reportedly attempted to intervene before the suspect fled the area on foot.

Police later located Butler nearby and took him into custody shortly after the incident, according to investigators.

In the days before Sheron’s death, his wife Maria gave an emotional update, telling reporters there was “no hope” for her husband as he remained hospitalized with devastating injuries.

She also said the family had been preparing for the worst after doctors warned that Sheron’s condition had rapidly deteriorated due to severe head trauma.

Photos published after the assault appeared to show Sheron bruised, bandaged and connected to medical equipment inside his hospital room.

Authorities said Butler remains jailed without bail. Prosecutors indicated the charges could now be upgraded following Sheron’s death.

He is expected to be formally re-arraigned as early as this week, with homicide-related charges now under consideration, officials said.

Investigators have not publicly identified a motive and said it remains unclear whether the two men knew each other before the confrontation.

Sheron had previously claimed his home — widely known in the community as the “Trump House” because of its large political displays and American flags — had been vandalized in the past. In a video posted months earlier, he showed torn flags and damaged decorations outside the property.

Maria previously told reporters she believed her husband may have been targeted because of the pro-Trump displays outside their home. Authorities, however, have not confirmed any political motive tied to the attack.

For quite a long time I’ve seen the docu-series advertised on Fox Business Channel, “Legends and Lies: The Patriots. For some reason I have yet to take the time to watch any of this but today is Memorial Day and as we honor those who gave their lives for our freedom in one way or another, I’m sitting here watching it now. The series at this point is in season 2 and I just finished watching episode 7 about Marion Francis. I may have heard a bit about this Man but I had no idea just how important General Francis’s contribution to the formation of our Republic was nor did I have one clue that he is the Father of how we conduct war operations to this very day.

Anons, I have to tell you that the magnitude and surrealness of what the Founders took upon themselves to not only free themselves from King George but to establish the United States of America is inexplicable. The Founding principles, God given rights, freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and what it took to obtain this is beyond the rational ability to explain it. All I can say is that God’s hand was guiding all of this. Every, single, thing that we can look around and define in this great nation of ours they provide for. It is almost impossible to wrap one’s head around what these incredible men and women did. Did for themselves and by extension did for all of US today. Watching just that one episode was profound beyond comprehension to me and I will make the effort to go back and start with season 1, episode 1 of this incredible docu-series and watch every season and every episode to the very end.

This is our history. This is how and why all of US are here today and it is incredible. This is how our history should be taught in every realm of education from elementary school to graduate school. We allowed the “enemy within” to commandeer education almost to a point of finality for this Republic. We were either ignorant or non responsive and complacent and the cost of either of these abnormalities has almost cost US all, our existence. And still may, if we all are not careful. Thank God Almight for President Donald J. Trump.

If you get the chance to watch this true and factual depiction of how and more importantly, WHO, bourn this Republic and understand that these Patriots risked everything they had, "their lives, their fortunes and sacred honor" so that all men, all women and children regardless of color, creed or religious belief, could live life, have liberty and pursue happiness. Then please do. You will be moved to a sense of pride and profound thankfulness in realizing that what these Patriots did, they did for all of US.

The NYT article reveals that our military is telling President Trump what has been obvious from the onset of this war: there is no quick military solution in Iran and our early actions set the conditions for the stalemate we are in now.

Trump’s best option is to declare victory and walk away now. Limit our exposure in the region, reduce the risk of Iran restarting the war on their terms, and reset negotiations with sanctions relief as both carrot and stick.

The Iranians have adapted to our attacks. They can “win” simply by not losing. Future strikes will be less effective, cost us more in casualties, and further harden Iranian resolve.

Killing the Supreme Leader rallied the Iranian people around the regime. By also eliminating many moderate leaders, we’ve left ourselves with mostly hardliners to negotiate with, who are unlikely to give Trump the concessions he’s demanding.

Two lessons we should have learned in the GWOT:

Russia Says Magnetic Mines Found On Tanker At Ust-Lugaport

MOSCOW, May 25 (Reuters) – Several NATO-produced magnetic mines had been detected on a tanker in Russia’s Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga, Russia’s Investigative Committee said on Monday.

The committee said the mines were found by divers during an inspection of the hull of the tanker Arrhenius, which arrived from Belgium’s port of Antwerp to load liquefied petroleum gas.

Russia has beefed up safety measures in its ports following suspected acts of sabotage aimed at undermining its energy infrastructure.

Last year, Russia ordered divers to inspect ships in its ports, after suspected attacks on four oil tankers. The Suezmax tanker Koala ran aground at Ust-Luga after a blast in its engine room in February 2025.

According to LSEG ship tracking data, Arrhenius is Liberia- flagged and is managed by the Maple Mariner Holding in the UAE.

A spokesperson for Russia’s Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, said that the mines were produced by a NATO country. She said the vessel, which entered Ust-Luga on May 20, was scheduled to sail to the Turkish port of Samsun.

NATO was not immediately available for comment.

The mines were deactivated, she said.

“Based on initial investigative actions, it can already be concluded that the magnetic mines could not have been installed in Russia’s territorial waters,” Petrenko said.

The complaint references whistleblower claims and a Commerce Department investigation.

Meta denied the allegations, calling them false and saying WhatsApp uses the Signal end-to-end encryption protocol.

A similar federal class-action lawsuit was filed in California in March 2026.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov criticized WhatsApp after the lawsuit and promoted Telegram instead.

WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton previously said he compromised user privacy when selling the company to Facebook.
