Democratic Party Office In Kentucky Vandalized With Paint

A headquarters for the Democratic Party in Kentucky has been vandalized, with phrases including "Witch Hunt" and "Treason Dem" scrawled across its facade in white paint.

The Courier Journal reports the vandalism was reported to Louisville Metro police on Sunday morning. The phrases apparently painted with a roller also included "Racist AOC," an apparent reference to Democratic U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

A Louisville Democratic Party statement Sunday calls the "hate filled graffiti" a symptom of the polarized political environment. It's unclear exactly when the building was defaced. No arrests were reported by early Monday.

Afghan VP candidate targeted in deadly Kabul attack

At least 20 people were killed and 50 injured in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Sunday in a suicide bombing and gun battle at vice presidential candidate Amrullah Saleh’s office, the government said in a statement on Monday.

Saleh, a running mate of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, was slightly injured in the attack.

Banks face $1.2 billion civil lawsuit over rigging currency markets

Barclays, Citigroup, JPMorgan, Royal Bank of Scotland and UBS are facing a £1 billion ($1.23 billion) class action lawsuit over rigging the foreign exchange markets — one of the biggest cases of its kind in the UK.

It comes just months after European regulators hit many of the same banks with a €1 billion-plus penalty for manipulation of these same markets between 2007 and 2013.

The new suit alleges that end investors, including pension funds, lost out as a result of the manipulation and deserve compensation. It was filed at London’s Competition Appeal Tribunal by Scott+Scott, the US law firm.

It mirrors a $2.3 billion class action overseen by Scott+Scott two years ago. The firm has opened a European office to lead the new claim, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

The news was first reported by Reuters. Barclays BARC, +0.36% BCS, -0.45% , Citi C, -0.03% , JPMorgan JPM, +0.66% and RBS RBS, +0.97% declined to comment. UBS, +1.41% id not respond in time for publication.

Class actions are a popular means of litigation in the US, where they allow multiple parties to sue another under one banner. British courts were cleared to hear cases brought under this framework in 2015.

Earlier this year, the European Commission fined Barclays, Citi, JPMorgan, Royal Bank of Scotland and Japan’s MUFG €1.1 billion over collusive behaviour in the $5.1 trillion-a-day foreign exchange markets.

The European Union’s executive arm found that traders had exchanged information on risk positions and plans for trade in Bloomberg chat rooms called The Cartel and Three Way Banana Split.

Ethics report says U.N. figures abused authority for private gain

July 29 (UPI) – A leaked internal ethics report within the United Nations' Palestinian relief agency accuses some members of its senior management team of abusing their authority for personal gain.

The U.N. Relief and Works Agency report said an "inner circle" in the organization's top ranks also abused authority "to suppress legitimate dissent and to otherwise achieve their personal objectives," Al Jazeera reported Monday.

The report from the UNRWA ethics office named Commissioner-General Pierre Krahenbuhl, former deputy Sandra Mitchell, former chief of staff Hakam Shahwan and senior adviser Maria Mohammedi among those involved.

The report was sent to U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres months ago, but there has been little movement on the issue, Al Jazeera's report said.

There was a big scandal in a church I attended. Pastor preaching on good relationships (even got a spot on a major TV show) was found to be committing adultery on church property. I knew someone who wondered if his wedding vows were invalid because the pastor had been in sexual sin. Russia Probe Twist: The FBI, A Convicted Russian Agent, & A Billionaire American CEO

If what you already know about the FBI’s investigation into President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia has you wondering what can come next, “make sure you are sitting down because it’s about to get worse,” said Patrick Byrne, the philanthropist and CEO of the mega online retail chain Overstock.com.

Byrne revealed never published details about his intimate relationship with the Russian gun right’s activist and libertarian, Maria Butina, who is now serving out her sentence after pleading guilty in 2018 to working as a foreign agent in the U.S. without registering.

In an interview several weeks ago, Byrne recounted first meeting Butina at Freedom Fest 2015. He described the relationship that developed between the two and revealed that he had initiated contact in July, 2015 with the FBI after his first meeting with Butina. He also disclosed that he met twice with Justice Department attorneys in April, 2019 giving a total of seven hours of interviews on the separate occasions. A source directly familiar with the interviews, confirmed those meetings took place.

Butina’s lawyer, Robert Driscoll, also confirmed the relationship between Byrne and Butina. Driscoll stated that he also had relayed the information to the FBI and prosecutors earlier during his trial, and asked repeatedly about any Brady material -exculpatory information – that the bureau may have collected from Byrne on Butina, to no avail. The bureau denied it had any information regarding Byrne and Butina’s relationship, said Driscoll.

On Thursday, Driscoll sent a letter to United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut John Durham, who was appointed by Attorney General William Barr to investigate the FBI’s handling of the Russia investigation; Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who is conducting an investigation into the bureau’s origins of the Trump probe and Corey Amundson, with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Professional Responsibility.

PHILADELPHIA — One man was killed and five others were wounded in a shooting during a rap video production in Philadelphia.

Police say unidentified gunmen opened fire as the victims were about to shoot the video on Sunday night.

Police say a 21-year-old was shot in the head and died at the scene.

A 23-year-old who was shot in the head, a 22-year-old who was shot in the leg and chest, and a 22-year-old who was shot in the neck and back are in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Federal authorities for months suspected a humanitarian group of harboring immigrants, eventually resulting in felony charges against a volunteer who says he was simply being a good Samaritan, according to recently released court documents.

A jury in June was unable to reach a verdict against SCOTT WARREN on charges of conspiracy and harboring and transporting immigrants. Federal prosecutors plan to retry Warren, of Ajo, Arizona, on two counts of harboring in November.

Warren says he was fulfilling his humanitarian duty by helping two injured migrant men at a facility known as “The Barn,” where members of the humanitarian group No More Deaths are based. Prosecutors say he was helping them evade authorities.

Documents unsealed in the case show the timeline for the investigation that led to Warren’s arrest while also revealing how locals and officials from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service worked closely with Border Patrol agents.
