Nearly half in poll say they struggle to determine if information is true

Nearly half of respondents said they struggle to know if the information they consume is true, according to a new Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research-USA Facts poll.

Forty-seven percent of those surveyed said they believe it’s difficult to determine if the information they encounter is correct, while 31 percent said it is easy to do so. Respondents widely agreed that the best way to determine information’s veracity is to consider how it was gathered and if it is based on data.

The poll also found that nearly two-thirds of Americans say they often come across information that is one-sided and about 60 percent say they consistently see clashing reports from different outlets about the same set of facts.

While many Americans agree it is difficult to determine if the information they find is correct, the poll showed partisan divides in the sources they trust.

Democrats said they were more likely to lean on scientists and academics to determine if a piece of information is true, while Republicans said they are more likely to trust what they hear from President Trump.

The GOP is more likely to put stock in what Trump has to say than Democrats, 40 to 5 percent, though a 61 percent majority of Americans say they have little trust about information that comes from the president.

Meanwhile, more Democrats (72 percent) than Republicans (40 percent) said they believe information from scientists. Democrats also favor information from academics over Republicans by a 57 to 30 percent margin.

When it comes to information about the government, 54 percent of Americans said they get their facts from social media at least once a day, 52 percent get them from local news, 50 percent from national television networks and 47 percent from cable news. About 60 percent also said they use government websites to look up information.

Yet despite the widespread use of those sources, majorities of Americans surveyed said they have minimal or no confidence in information they get about the government from social media, the president, members of Congress and businesses. …

We reported in June on a story that was first brought to our attention by Neonrevolt. In November 2017, General Michael Flynn wrote an op-ed for the Hill.

In the piece Flynn wrote –

The primary bone of contention between the U.S. and Turkey is Fethullah Gülen, a shady Islamic mullah residing in Pennsylvania whom former President Clinton once called his “friend” in a well circulated video.

Flynn then shared a video of President Clinton claiming that the shady mullah is a friend of the US –

Gülen portrays himself as a moderate, but he is in fact a radical Islamist. He has publicly boasted about his “soldiers” waiting for his orders to do whatever he directs them to do. If he were in reality a moderate, he would not be in exile, nor would he excite the animus of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his government.

Flynn then compared Gulen to leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and “Turkey’s Osama Bin Laden”. He discussed how Gulen brought into the US numerous individuals to run his charter schools he set up –

To add insult to injury, American taxpayers are helping finance Gülen’s 160 charter schools in the United States. These schools have been granted more H1-B visas than Google. It is inconceivable that our visa officers have approved thousands of visas for English teachers whose English is incomprehensible. A CBS “60 Minutes” program documented a conversation with one such imported English teacher from Turkey. Several lawsuits, including some in Ohio and Texas, point to irregularities in the operation of these schools.

Flynn then dropped this bomb about the Clinton Foundation’s relationship with this terrorist –

However, funding seems to be no problem for Gülen’s network. Hired attorneys work to keep the lucrative government source of income for Gülen and his network going. Influential charities such as Cosmos Foundation continue their support for Gulen’s charter schools.

Incidentally, Cosmos Foundation is a major donor to Clinton Foundation. No wonder Bill Clinton calls Mullah Gülen “his friend.” It is now no secret that Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s close aide and confidante, worked for 12 years as the associate editor for a journal published by the London-based Institute of Minority Muslim Affairs. This institute has promoted the thoughts of radical Muslim thinkers such as Qutb, al Bana and others.

Neonrevolt noted a New York Times article that discusses the terrorist organization in the US led by Gulen. What is happening is this –

The taxpayers fund the school system

The school abuses the H1-B visa program to import “teachers.”

The “teachers” get paid by taxpayers.

The “teachers” then donate 40% of their paychecks BACK to the Gulen Movement.

And Gulen goes and donates a chunk of this change back to the Clinton Foundation… while also trying to subvert and overthrow the Turkish government.

Neonrevolt then noted some statistics on the corruption in the US related to the Gulen group.

Gulenists’ contributions to congressional campaigns have been known for some time, as Buzzfeed reported last year. Texas Reps. Sheila Jackson-Lee, and Henry Cuellar, both Democrats, are among the biggest benefactors of Gulen contributions.

USA Today reported last month that the House ethics committee has investigated more than 200 trips taken by members of Congress since 2008 that were secretly funded by Gulen groups. …

Clinton has been the biggest recipient of Gulenist donations of any presidential candidate this cycle, federal election records show.

The US office responsible for patents and trademarks is trying to figure out how AI might call for changes to copyright law, and it's asking the public for opinions on the topic. From a report:

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published a notice in the Federal Register last month saying it's seeking comments, as spotted by TorrentFreak. The office is gathering information about the impact of artificial intelligence on copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property rights. It outlines thirteen specific questions, ranging from what happens if an AI creates a copyright-infringing work to if it's legal to feed an AI copyrighted material. It starts off by asking if output made by AI without any creative involvement from a human should qualify as a work of authorship that's protectable by US copyright law. If not, then what degree of human involvement "would or should be sufficient so that the work qualifies for copyright protection?" Other questions ask if the company that trains an AI should own the resulting work, and if it's okay to use copyrighted material to train an AI in the first place. "Should authors be recognized for this type of use of their works?" asks the office. "If so, how?"

That new Lokinet service node is dedicated to increasing the bandwidth and security of the Lokinet network. With enough service nodes globally, we could witness a truly decentralized, un-censorable, un-stoppable worldwide web.

And as a bonus for those with a big heart (and for greedy bastards everywhere too), when you stake (i.e., invest) in a Lokinet service node, you don't only strengthen the global network itself, but you also get a financial return on that investment in the way of new Loki currency, sort of like a dividend. This is a mechanism of strengthening the network by appealing to our human nature by offering the chance of some financial reward, rather than only relying on altruism alone, to grow a larger and larger, stronger and stronger un-censorable worldwide web which no single country or corporation can control.

While we MIGHT be getting some ideas about where all this is leading, we can't yet say for sure. The Plan will unfold as it is unfolds.
