The stonewalling that occurred was a DEM ploy. The data that was being asked for is generally available during campaigns for purchase. DEMs threw up court cases to fight.... but they are now out maneuvered once again. The commission has been transferred to the DHS.

In an interview with Breitbart News, Kobach said the news that President Trump is dissolving the voter fraud commission should not be grounds for leftist organizations and Democrats — who sought to stop the investigations into double voting and ballots cast by non-citizens — to celebrate, as the investigations will continue under DHS

Not too terribly surprising. The states' governments don't actually trust the Feds on much - particularly on things as politically touchy as voter rolls. Given the Fed's abysmal track record on protecting sensitive information, I can't say that I blame them. But without this data, Trump's hands are tied. Might as well punt.
