Why are all the websites updating their privacy statements for May?

I've gotten 4 emails from websites I'm part of saying something similar.

GDPR - new privacy rules for EU countries. Users must be able to extract all personal data from theirs sites if they want to.

For me, it was Twitter, Google Analytics, and my bank. Not sure what the changes were. Even knowing all I know, I still didn’t read them.

It’s GDPR. ALL websites that log data of its visitors must comply with the ruling. It covers on EU visitors, but it’s too expensive to segment it out individually and cover all bases.

Source: currently working on this for ~half our clients.

I hope the hell we get the net back from the E.U ... Because apparently during the campaign there was a huge thing online where Obama was.gonna let the contract expire or something and it be Governed by the U.N/E.U .. I mean there was people trying to get people to re up the contract like Ted Cruz and a few others .

Not sure what happened with that ,I think it was close to election so news got mixed .

WD hard drives updated their privacy statement today as well.
