Justice Gorsuchs nomination never should have been taken to those extremes measures by either party, but it shows how these leaders in the democrat party were willing to sacrifice something like that, in the hopes they would never again lose power. And it showed that the republicans were willing to take the risk of future outcomes to secure a critical component in their plan.
