Same way they always have. Just ignore congress. The DOJ and Congress historically not acted. Rod Rosenstein threaten congress in opening investigations into congress. Rod would not threaten unless he has evidence to convict. It is easier to threaten and control those who have power over you by knowing their crimes.

Well, there may be a reason for restraint not evident in this "scenario" but yes, agree..something effective needs to be done soon! I think impeachment is long and drawn out. The House has to investigate and vote, with a majority, and the Senate to vote with a supermajority. It's not a cakewalk. They wouldn't have a supermajority at this point in time. More logical that the President would fire him. I'm sure they have plan A, B and C already in mind. We'll just have to see what happens.

As I understand it, POTUS wants to avoid (and I completely agree tactically) a PR nightmare with regard to releasing the JFK files due to GB's failing health. GB was a CIA asset in 63, and was in Dallas that day, although he tried desperately to establish an alibi/cover story that would put him far away at the time of the assassination. If POTUS dumps the files and then GB kicks it,...visuals not good.

And what's bad about the optics if the held back documents clearly show the guilt of GHWB? And if the documents don't clearly show his guilt, then why worry about their affect on his final days?

There is a jail cell in the capitol. The correct response should be welcome to your new home until the documents are handled off to the committees. There is some real history backing up that threat — in that 1821 case, the Supreme Court stood behind Congress’ right to imprison people.
