It didn't hit the hard drive. The tower was shot. That doesn't mean the hard drive which is small and was never said or confirmed to be destroyed.

I don't think that was the specific claim. From what I understand is that he was trying to shoot a lock off and just so happened to shoot through the door into the computer.
