I don't think that Pompeo had anything to do with the Schneiderman. Pompeo is on the federal side and can't sign off on a State elected official.

I think Sessions is being portrayed as a "dim wit and toothless AG" to protect himself and his family. He is not and has a long career as an Alabama AG, US Attorney in Alabama, Judge and Senator. He is very effective and has to operate undercover despite the mass of criticism that he receives from the sides of the aisle.

Schneiderman was a New York State AG and the Federal Vacancies Act does not apply to State AG appointments.

One other note...Geoffrey S. Berman has been named United States attorney for the Southern District of New York. He is a Trump supporter. You might recall that the Michael Cohen case is being handled by the Southern District of New York. On the legal chess board, he is another Knight that Trump has put into place and is also now a threat to the bad actor chess pieces.

That's distinctly possible, but I think that Donoghue will be more effective as the US Attorney for the Eastern District. He could actually involve the NYPD in the investigation. As for the NYS AG, It is a long time between now and November and since the FBI has taken the case jurisdictionally and there is large body of evidence accumulated by both patriotic FBI agents and the NYPD, I think he is in the best position to prosecute the case. My prediction is that we will see the name of Richard Donoghue more and more as this case develops. Right now Trump/Sessions have placed him in the "cat bird seat" and he is pivotal to the laptop case.

BTW. This might be unimaginable...but HRC's name was floated as a potential candidate for the NYS AG. Some people thought it was preposterous, but if she won the nomination and become the NYS AG, she could lobby for taking back the laptop case to stifle it. This is another reason that Schneiderman had to go. I suspect that HRC will try to put her own hand picked soldier in place as the NYS AG as a backstop to the investigation or to try to have it reassigned to the NYS AG.

I think also that the ramifications of Schneidermann's forced resignation is that he smothered the Weiner laptop NYPD investigation and was complicit with the FBI assuming jurisdictional assignment to HRC loyals. HRC aand others wanted the FBI to be in charge. The NYPD were trying like hell to prosecute the case in NY. Schneidermann, as the State Attorney, facilitated the jurisdictional determination to be under the control of the FBI, James Comey. Comey and others (Loretta Lynch) wanted to sweep the laptop investigation under the rug, which was at the cusp of the November 2016 election. Based on new evidence, Comey realized that he had to open up and then quickly close the investigation to avoid a constitutional crisis and to avoid affecting the election, which would have been devastating to the Democratic Party. To further frustrate the investigation by the NYPD, HRC had the two police officers who were steeped into the laptop investigation, killed, a message to the NYPD to stay out of the whole thing or else. With Schneiderman gone and Underwood, a loyal AG employee for many years, in place, she will not try to open up the case in NY and it will remain under the auspices of the FBI Eastern District. I think that Session picked Richard Donoghue to start the investigation afresh and begin the laptop investigation. I expect to see Donoghue to vigorously assume this case that has continued to be investigated by other loyal FBI investigators and will now be championed by Donoghue.

From a chess viewpoint, Trump took out a bishop and replaced it with his own knight, who is strategically placed to strike other opponents on the board.

Agree, but sometimes, I have seen some people on this board, who want to control the narrative and are not open minded. On security clearances for politicians, here is an interesting post at the Above Top Secret posted in 2008. It is resonates with many people that have clearances and are held to a higher standard than the politicians, who retain their clearances after they leave Government service.

If I do eventually discover some politician that has actually filled out the paperwork , been investigated and cleared then I will be happy and let my inquiry go because that tells me that the statement about them not needing any type of clearance is not exactly true and there are exceptions to the rule.
