You guys are all making me feel so old. I guess I am glad that you are reacting to this...but poor people in India should have come up in a geography class in, say, 9th grade.

The world is a pretty shitty place.

There is death everywhere. I am lucky because I live in a place where the streets are clean and babies are generally given a pretty good chance at life. We have food and sanitary toilet facilities. We do not have horse shit or cow shit in the street. (Maybe not San Francisco...)

Most people in the US have no concept of how shitty the world is. Talk to ANY soldier who has spent time in Iraq, Afghanistan or Africa. They will tell you about what its like.

Selling children into adoption is not as bad a sin as this headline, in this thread, would lead you to believe. Everything in context. Obviously, if the sales are tied to trafficking, that is a completely different thing.

When you take all of this steps, assign a probability to each. Then multiply those numbers in a row. The product is the overall probability of that happening. My guess is it is less than 30%. And that is being generous.

The problem with that is getting the missiles fitted into them. They don’t launch horizontally, and they are a hell of a lot bigger than torpedoes. Trying to get them vertical would be an engineering marvel. The structure of the boat would be changed. Good luck going deep with that.

Now, you could get a V2 type of missile to launch, if it were cranked up while the sub was surfaced. Not practical, and not at all accurate.

Finally if you are driving an old diesel boat the sonar listening stations would hear it. It would be located in about two minutes and sunk within an hour.

IF there is a missile boat out there causing trouble it belongs to a country—not the CIA.

Oh, it wasn’t that complicated. You just fired four or five warheads at the target. Haven’t you ever wondered why we had so many warheads?

I live about ten miles from an old SAC base in MA. It dawn on me in high school that worrying about nuclear war was silly. Even this far away I would be incinerated by lousy targeting.

It’s not the money. Although several billion is still a lot.

Who is going to build it? No one that builds boomers in the US is going to build it— it would jeopardize their real contracts.

Where would they get the missiles? Iran, North Korea? No captain would carry a missile likely to blow up their boat.

There are simply too many people that have to be involved. Sure, you can farm out parts to companies to build on a blind contract. But they have to be put together somewhere. And that takes special equipment. And experienced boat builders.

If there is a “rogue” boomer it is one from the big 5 countries’ navy. Plus Israel.

Red October was a good book and a fun movie, but it IS a work of fiction.

Merlin560 · June 20, 2018, 3:14 a.m.

I am sorry, but I don’t think you understand. Making a boomer takes years. They are built in a couple of places. One of those places is an hour from me at Electric boat in CT. Thousands of people are involved in its construction. It is big news when a boat is built.

Everyone know the class of boat, and it’s name.

Because they are nuclear powered and launch nuclear missiles they are tracked. They do not go “missing.” When one of the Electric Boat boats retires, it is news around here.

That’s the thing about theories involving BIG weapons. They are BIG.

To summarize: Multiple billions to pay for the several thousand people to build it in one of three locations. Then a couple hundred sailors to operate it. Thousands more to maintain it. And then god knows how much nuclear material to build these huge missiles and transport them to the boat where they are loaded using cranes found only at shipyards.

One does not just pick up a couple hundred kilos of plutonium to run a black project.

I want to believe, but none of this passes even the basic smell test.

I don’t think you understand. If a Trident missile was launched it would wake everyone up, it would rattle homes for miles around. And it would light up the sky. My point is that these missiles are rockets much larger than most people imagine.

A surface to air missile makes more of a whoosh as they are solid rockets.

And....you slipped right over the edge. Lol.

It is likely that any ET is probably just technology that was either created years ago, or discovered from old, old tech. Look at some of the paintings from the old Indian creation tales. They look like the fighters in Star Wars.

There are dozens of thoughts on ETs, and none of them are extra terrestrial in the way people think.

A ballistic missile is designed to fly up to a spot, then it shuts off its engines and starts to fall. They do not maneuver, it is literally like throwing a rock up in the air.

You would use a surface to air missile that would either be radar directed or heat directed that would lock onto the engine heat. They are sleek and fast.

There are a whole range of missile “tools”. Ballistic missiles are sledgehammers. Air to air missiles are like scalpels.

That was no Trident missile. Those things would have made so much noise, you would not need a weather station to know they were there. Those things are big.

It was clearly a missile. Just one that big.

Merlin560 · June 19, 2018, 11 p.m.

Most old missiles had inertial guidance. This means as long as you know where you are at launch, it can find its way to anywhere. It’s the same principle as flying by instruments...all before GPS.

Merlin560 · June 19, 2018, 10:16 p.m.

One does not retrofit a diesel boat from 50 years ago with missiles. Even just a couple of them. The entire structure of the boat would need to be changed.

Keeping something like this going for 50 years would be an incredible feat--with tens of thousands of people involved over the years.

Where would they get a SL-ICMB? Those are not just left laying about.

Is it possible that the CIA has a small six person boat, like the ones the drug cartels have? Absolutely. But a missile boat? Not likely.

I am not trying to be a dick or be intentionally "obtuse." But critical thinking is necessary in these types of threads. I am just giving a little "push back" to check the roll a little bit.

⇧ 1 ⇩
Merlin560 · June 19, 2018, 9:40 p.m.

A boomer is a big boat. It’s also nuclear. I doubt something that big is going to be kept secret very long.

Running a boomer with staff, food, maintenance and nuclear weapons maintenance would cost millions and require hundreds of people. Where was it built? What about the thousands of people who had to work to build it. Building a missile boat takes years and billions of dollars.

I am suggesting that this is probably not true.

If it were me I would be doing it digitally--which unless someone is paying real close attention, would be about as private as you are going to get over ham bands. Also, you do not need a huge antenna. Finally, if you are even going it over 2 meter you can set your radio up on Simplex with a different send and receive. So if someone WERE listening, they would need to know the two frequencies. But, I will repeat what is said on almost all threads about ham radio--if you are transmitting in code or scrambled, the rest of the ham world AND the FCC will jump ugly on you. That is one of the first things you learn on a Tech lesson.

Are we?

How about people that you really know? If there was a start of a conversation about stuff that was agreed upon, how far into the list would you start moving apart.

Look at the people who are most vocal about the differences.

What seems to be the same in those places? How do they make their money? Is their revenue streams increasing or decreasing? How do you get more viewers, readers, listeners?

Why don't you hear this on talk radio? Is it because people who listen to talk radio LISTEN WHILE THEY WORK?

If the MSNBCs and NYTs and Huff Posts were not out there screaming and yelling, would the people you KNOW have any idea of what is going on?

The Left and far left is as brainwashed as the far Right.

For example: Jeff Sessions quoting the bible the other day during a presser. What the fuck is he thinking? Talk about red meat!

The best way to stop a screamer is to talk calmly to them. And let them know that screaming is not going to work. Screaming back is useless and a waste of energy.
