Nolte: Woke Superman Comic Book Sales Nosedive

DC Comics turned Superman into a bisexual who fights climate deniers, and to the shock of no one who lives in the real world, the comic has bombed.

Previous estimates for the book’s sales showed it was in the gutter with Comichron claiming the first book of Superman: Son of Kal-El only sold 68,800 issues back in July when it first debuted. That was good for the 17th best selling comic of the month.

The most recent data compiled by Comichron reveals that the book’s third issue only sold 34,000 copies in September. That was good for the 77th best selling comic of the month.

That 68,800 number for the first issue is even worse when you compare it to previous Superman #1 issues. When the series was rebooted when Brian Michael Bendis took over the title back in 2018, Superman #1 sold 133,700 copies.

Other Superman #1 editions sold 118,434 copies, 105,380 copies, and 118,376 copies.

Bisexual Superman (who now has a boyfriend with pink hair) has already fallen out of the top 50 comic sellers. What a humiliation, After all, this is Superman we’re talking about, the most famous superhero of all time, and DC’s woketards killed the brand so effectively it couldn’t crack the top 50.

Citigroup Fined $45 Million After Decade of 'Dishonest' Stock Deals in Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s securities regulator imposed a fine of HK$348.3 million ($44.6 million) on Citigroup Inc. for “serious regulatory failures” when executing stock trades for clients between 2008 and 2018, citing deficiencies in internal controls, compliance and management oversight for the “pervasive dishonest behaviour.”

The Securities and Futures Commission reprimanded Citigroup’s Asian markets unit for allowing trading desks under its cash equities business to make misrepresentations to institutional clients, according to a statement Friday. The regulator said it will commence disciplinary proceedings against “certain former members” of the division’s senior management in due course.

The U.S. bank’s failures in Hong Kong “exposed a culture that encouraged chasing revenue at the expense of basic standards of honesty,” Ashley Alder, chief executive officer of the SFC, said in the statement. The “unrelenting” pressure to gain more business and increase market share meant “deceptive practices were deployed at the expense of clients’ best interest and to the detriment of market integrity,” he said.

“We have fully cooperated with the SFC’s investigation and have implemented significant remedial measures to strengthen our compliance and internal controls,” James Griffiths, a spokesman for Citigroup in Hong Kong, said in a statement. “Fostering a culture of ethical behaviour has also been and continues to be a top priority for Citi.”

The SFC statement noted Citigroup Global Markets Asia has taken steps to rectify and strengthen its internal controls, including the appointment of an independent reviewer to review and validate its controls framework.

Citigroup, home to one of the world’s biggest investment banks, was already under pressure to improve its controls. The Bank of England hit the New York-based lender with a record 44-million pound fine in 2019 for years of inaccurate reporting about its capital and liquidity levels while U.S. regulators doled out a $400 million fine in 2020 for persistent problems with risk management. Chief Executive Officer Jane Fraser is now overseeing a yearslong campaign to shore up internal systems and data programs that will end up costing it billions.

Citigroup ousted a team of Hong Kong stocks traders in early 2019 after a sweeping internal investigation, Bloomberg reported at the time. One of the key issues was whether traders were properly disclosing the bank’s financial interest in certain stock trades. The lender had “multiple opportunities” since at least 2014 to identify the wrongdoing but failed to do so until a SFC on-site inspection in late 2018, the regulator said.

Citigroup employees sent clients false “indications of interest” about stocks to drum up interest, according to the SFC statement. They made “misleading statements” to the customers about how trades would take place, sometimes indicating that the bank would execute the trade on a so-called agency basis rather than as a principal.

Investors generally prefer agency trades, when a brokerage acts solely as an intermediary matching buyers and sellers, the SFC said. That compares with principal trades, when the brokerage buys stocks from a client, taking the position on to its balance sheet, and then sells them to another, hoping to gain from the difference. By misrepresenting principal trades as agency trades, Citigroup “could avoid losing a trade to a competitor,” according to the Hong Kong regulator.

“The prevalence of the misconduct among the desks over a period of more than 10 years indicates serious and systemic lapses,” the SFC said.

F-15Es Deploy to Estonia to Aid NATO Air Policing Amid Russian Tensions

Jan. 27, 2022 | By Greg Hadley

Half a dozen U.S. Air Force F-15Es landed in Estonia on Jan. 26 to aid NATO’s enhanced air policing mission, as tensions in Eastern Europe continue to simmer over a potential Russian invasion of Ukraine.

While in Estonia, the American fighters will integrate with a detachment of Belgian F-16s, NATO Allied Air Command said in a press release. In addition to working on the enhanced air policing mission, they will also work with NATO allies in the Baltics to practice air-to-air and air-to-ground maneuvers, the release said.

The six F-15E Strike Eagles are assigned to the 4th Fighter Wing from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C, the Air Force noted in releasing photos of the fighters landing at Amari Air Base, Estonia.

The photos also showed Airmen from the 4th Fighter Wing and the 48th Fighter Wing from RAF Lakenheath, England, arriving in a C-130J on Jan. 24 to support the mission.

“Baltic and enhanced Air Policing are enduring NATO missions that deliver constant vigilance of Allied airspace and contribute to the Alliance’s collective defense posture,” Maj. Gen. Jörg Lebert, Chief of Staff of Headquarters Allied Air Command, said in a statement. “The additional aircraft will work closely with the current detachments to increase our readiness, build crucial interoperability, and underline the robust solidarity across the Alliance.”

NATO’s air policing mission is focused on monitoring for “airspace violations, suspicious air activity close to the alliance’s borders, or other kinds of unsafe air traffic,” with fighters being tasked to scramble in response to any threat.

Reuters, citing an official at Amari Air Base, reported that the U.S. fighters will be deployed “until the end of next week”—Feb. 4 or 5.

The deployment of the F-15Es comes just two weeks after the Air Force sent F-16s to Poland en route to Lithuania and Estonia to train with Eastern European allies on air policing. At the time, U.S. Air Forces in Europe stressed in a statement that the deployment was “long planned.”

Still, the deployments come at a time when any military activity in the region is sure to garner interest. Russia has maintained a troop presence of some 100,000 along the Ukrainian border for months now, with sophisticated air force and anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) capabilities that experts believe would allow for a swift invasion.

President Joe Biden has said he will not send any American troops to Ukraine itself, but Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III recently ordered 8,500 troops in the continental U.S. to prepare to deploy to Europe for a potential Ukraine contingency within five days. Biden has also sought to warn Russia off a potential invasion, threatening a “heavy price” for Russian President Vladimir Putin if he does so.

At the same time, NATO allies along the eastern flank have clamored for an increased U.S. presence in their countries—Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis have all indicated a willingness to host more troops in the past few months.

BOE469 KC-46 Pegasus from Boeing Field

Plan To Fix Troubled KC-46 Tanker Risks Making Same Mistakes New Report Says

A new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office, a congressional watchdog, says that the U.S. Air Force will not begin to receive KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueling tankers that incorporate key fixes to the design until 2026 at best. This new review of the program also warns the service's plans to rectify these deficiencies, especially those related to the aircraft's long-troubled Remote Vision System and boom, present new risks that could lead to further delays.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) released its latest report on the KC-46A today. Earlier this month, the aircraft's manufacturer Boeing marked the milestone delivery of the 50th Pegasus to the Air Force. The service has ordered 91 of the tankers so far and expects to purchase at least 175 of them, in total, in the coming years. Various critical deficiencies continue to limit how and when the aircraft can be employed in their primary role as aerial refueling military aircraft.

"The availability of KC-46 aircraft that meet the requirements set out for them is critical for Air Force to meet the needs of the warfighter," GAO's report says "While the warfighter is using the KC-46, it is partially capable, and any further delays will limit how the aircraft can be used."

As of last year, there were currently seven unresolved issues with the KC-46A that the Air Force categorizes as critical deficiencies, according to GAO. Boeing and the Air Force expected fixes for continuing issues relating to instability with the flight management system, cracking in the air refueling drain tubes and in separate drain masts, and fuel system leaks, to start being integrated into existing and new production aircraft between 2021 and 2022.

However, Boeing remains years away, at least, from rectifying the problems involving the Remote Vision System (RVS), as well as the boom itself, long-standing and serious problems that you can read more about in detail here. On the KC-46A, boom operators sit in the main cabin and utilize the RVS, a hybrid 2D/3D vision system that incorporates feeds from multiple video cameras at the rear of the plane, to remotely guide the boom into receiving aircraft. Boom operators in all previous Air Force tankers have physically sat or lied in a position at the rear of the aircraft while performing this job.

"The Air Force projects the retrofit for the new remote vision system on the first 18 aircraft to span 9 months, from May 2024 through February 2025," according to GAO. "The Air Force also projects the retrofit schedule for the new boom on the first 18 aircraft to start almost 2 years after finalizing the design in September 2023, and to take roughly 6 months, from July 2025 through January 2026. Given these estimates, the 18 aircraft in the final production configuration with the new boom and RVS will not be available until after January 2026."

When the Air Force awarded Boeing its first KC-46A contract in 2011, the plan was to have reached an initial operational capability with these tankers in their primary role as aerial refuelings by 2017. Just last year, the Air Force finally approved the use of the Pegasus in actual operational scenarios, rather than just in support of training and other non-combat missions, but only to refuel C-17 cargo planes, B-52 bombers, and other KC-46As.

Two polls show surge, big gaps, setting wild 2022 election

https://oregoncatalyst.com/57493-polls-show-surge-big-gaps-setting-wild-2022-election.html

A new NBC poll showed very big interest gap between GOP and Democrats.

Gallup released the results of their latest survey showing very strong trends among Independent voters and GOP.

– Preferences shifted from nine-point Democratic advantage to five-point GOP edge in just one year for party identification (chart above).

– Largest percentage of U.S. adults identify as political independents

– Independents are close to breaking all-time high in identification (chart below).

– Even though the GOP identification surged 7% in one year, the average for the year remains slightly below Democrats.

The changes in our opinion reflect a very volatile electorate and a higher stakes election come November.
