Joseph Wu, Taiwan’s Foreign Minister, made the claim yesterday during an interview with India’s WION news. He referred to a significant increase in Chinese military aircraft entering Taiwan’s air identification zone as an example of intensifying activity in the region.

Mr Wu also said Taiwan was building up its own military capabilities in response.

Of Beijing’s military, the foreign minister told WION news’ Palki Sharma: “Not only do they try to build up their missile capabilities, but they also try to build up their conventional capabilities.

“I think the target is Taiwan, there’s no doubt about it.

“They’re also trying to intensify their military activities around Taiwan. In the last couple of months, we saw the Chinese military activities – especially the activities in the air – have been increasing tremendously.”

He accused China of sending aircraft across the median line which divides the Taiwan Strait – a boundary which he said “has been safeguarding peace and stability and the status quo for decades”.

He said Taiwan is increasing its own defence forces “to prevent China from thinking that they can take Taiwan over very quickly”.

South Korean government to investigate spate of deaths linked to seasonal flu shots after toll rises to 30

South Korean Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun called for a probe into the deaths of at least 30 people who died shortly after receiving seasonal flu shots, stepping up scrutiny after Seoul previously denied any link to the vaccine.

"The authorities should thoroughly investigate the causal relationship between vaccinations and the deaths and make public the development transparently," Chung said on Friday at a meeting of the government's disaster and safety counter-measure group.

Chung's statement came after the death toll among people who recently received the vaccine more than doubled between Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon, then continued rising through the night. There were 25 deaths recorded as of 4pm Thursday, up from 12 earlier in the day, and the toll reached 30 at midnight.

Jeong Eun-kyeong, director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), reportedly told South Korean lawmakers on Thursday that there was no direct link between the deaths and the vaccine. Of the first 25 deaths recorded, 22 involved people aged 60 or older, but a 17-year-old boy last week died two days after getting his flu shot.

Chung called on the KDCA to investigate quickly provide the public with an explanation for the deaths "so that people can receive vaccination without anxiety."

The spate of deaths comes amid an effort by South Korea's government to provide free flu vaccinations to 19 million people, including the elderly and teenagers, to avoid having to cope with both a major flu outbreak and the Covid-19 pandemic at the same time. The vaccination program will continue uninterrupted by the investigation, despite the recent deaths and a recommendation by the Korean Medical Association to suspend the shots for one week.

The program was previously halted for three weeks after it was revealed that five million doses had been transported at room temperature, rather than being refrigerated as required.

Prince Andrew asked Ghislaine Maxwell for information about a woman who had accused him of sexual misconduct while she was underage, court documents appear to show.

Maxwell issued a public statement denying Giuffre’s claims that she helped Epstein abuse her on 2 January 2015. In her deposition, Maxwell confirmed that the following day she sent an email, stating: “Have some info. Call me when you have a moment.” The recipient’s name is redacted but the subject matter – Giuffre – and timing strongly suggest that it went to Prince Andrew.

“What did you discuss on that call?” Giuffre’s lawyer had asked Maxwell. “I don’t have any specific knowledge of that call,” Maxwell replied. “Were you discussing with [redacted] the subject of Virginia Roberts [Giuffre] during these calls?”

Giuffre’s attorney pointed to an email in this exchange, noting: “He says let me know when we can talk. Got some specific questions to ask you about Virginia Roberts.”

Maxwell was unclear when, exactly, a conversation took place, but said they did speak “at some point”. Asked what they talked about, Maxwell said: “Just what a liar she is.”

That correspondence corroborates and expands on emails recently published by the New York Post, which says they come from a Hunter laptop.

In a statement, Mr. Bobulinski said he went public because he wants to clear his name, which was contained in those published emails, and because accusations that the information is fake or “Russian disinformation” are “offensive.” He attests that all the correspondence he provided is genuine, including documents that suggest Hunter was cashing in on the Biden name and that Joe Biden was involved. Mr. Bobulinski says he was also alarmed by a September report from Sen. Ron Johnson that “connected some dots” on the CEFC deal, causing him now to believe the Bidens sold out their U.S. partners.
