HARRISBURG, Pa. (KDKA) β€” A local Democratic state senator, certified by the state as receiving the most votes, was denied his seat in the Pennsylvania Senate in a raucous swearing-in day at the state Capital in Harrisburg.

 

Senate Republicans, who hold the majority, refused to let Pa. Sen. Jim Brewster of McKeesport take the oath of office. When Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, a Democrat, came to Brewster’s defense, the Republicans removed him as presiding officer.

 

Pounding the gavel, Fetterman declared on Tuesday afternoon, β€œThe Senate will now come to order.”

Columbia University VP Accused of Sex Acts With Child Under 13 at His NJ Home

 

The vice president for Manhattanville Development at Columbia University has been arrested on aggravated sex assault and other charges for allegedly engaging in sex acts with a child younger than 13 in New Jersey, officials say.

 

Prosecutors said Tuesday that Marcelo Velez, identified on Columbia's website as its "point person on all aspects of development, design and construction" for the university's 6.8 million-square-foot campus expansion in West Harlem was taken into custody at his New Jersey home Monday after an investigation.

 

According to that investigation, Woodcliff Lake Police first learned of allegations the married 55-year-old Velez had engaged in sex acts with the child in Woodcliff Lake Sunday. The Bergen County prosecutor's office was called in to assist with that investigation and now alleges the abuse took place at Velez's home.

 

Details on his relationship to the child weren't immediately clear, nor was information on an attorney for him immediately available. Velez was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance on charges including sexual assault by sexual contact and child endangerment in addition to the top charge.

 

In a statement to News 4 New York, a Columbia University spokesperson said: "We have placed Mr. Velez on administrative leave and will cooperate fully with law enforcement officials investigating this matter.”

 

According to the college's website, Velez has been with the university since 1995 and "held a number of positions with increasing responsibilities." He has been with Columbia's Manhattanville Development Group since 2007, first as associate vice president for project management and construction. Velez took over the vice president role in 2016 and has "managed, supervised or otherwise presided over $1 billion worth of capital construction" over the years, his bio says.

 

A licensed professional engineer in New York state, Velez has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Rutgers University and a business degree from Columbia, where he currently serves on the adviser board for the ACE Mentorship Program, Columbia University’s School of Continuing Education’s new master’s degree program in construction administration, and as vice chair of the Greater New York Construction User Council, according to the university website.

Maxwell, in which Mr. Doe takes issue with the agreed-upon Protective Order entered by the Court as ECF No. 227 in Giuffre v. Dershowitz. Specifically, Mr. Doe asserts that the Protective Order permits the parties in Giuffre v. Dershowitz to file sealed material from Giuffre v. Maxwell to the public docket in Dershowitz without prior judicial approval.

Professor Dershowitz reiterates and incorporates by reference his prior objections to John Doe’s repeated attempts to assert himself into these proceedings, particularly where it appears that Mr. Doe never provided any discovery in reliance on the Protective Order in Giuffre v. Maxwell and therefore has no rights under the same. See August 24, 2020 Letter from Ansari and Cooper in Giuffre v. Dershowitz, ECF No. 171.

Regardless, Mr. Doe’s interpretation of the recently-entered Protective Order in Dershowitz is incorrect. The Court will recall that Ms. Giuffre has, for the sake of efficiency, re-produced in the Dershowitz case her document productions from the Maxwell case with whatever confidentiality designations were originally applied in the Maxwell case. Recognizing that some documents which Ms. Giuffre designated as confidential in Maxwell may not appropriately be designated as confidential in Dershowitz, the Protective Order provides a procedure whereby Ms. Giuffre will consider removing such inappropriate designations upon request. The Protective Order does not purport to confer authority on either party to publicly file any sealed documents from the Maxwell case without first seeking leave of Court. Mr. Doe’s concerns are thus without merit and the Court should deny his request as moot.

Georgia’s β€˜voting system implementation manager’ Gabe Sterling said counting of the mail-in ballots for the senate runoff will go through the night and into early morning.

Check'd, and no. I expect nothing, so I'm rarely disappointed. But you have to admit, this is anons' only shot. Anons have had a direct line to the OO for the past 3 years, and the best anons could muster is a rally just before the DS inaugurates the wrong guy? World wide support for this movement and what anons get is a lost senate race and the wrong fucker elected president of the USA? A guy that diddles kids and probably banged all his grandchildren (but especially the pretty one)?

 

The "parting" gift is something that's been sitting in front of anons this entire time. Q gave it to everyone that would listen right from the start. Free Thought.
