Brad Hazzard tests positive for COVID-19: NSW Health Minister goes into isolation with 'minor flu like symptoms'

 

New South Wales Health Minister Brad Hazzard said he intends to carry out work meetings virtually while in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.

 

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard has gone into isolation after he tested positive for COVID-19.

 

Mr Hazzard underwent testing for the virus after being told on Tuesday night a work colleague had returned a positive result on a rapid antigen test.

 

"While the Minister had no symptoms he undertook a RAT as a precaution. It was negative," a statement said.

 

"As a further precaution he had a PCR test last night. The PCR has returned a positive result.

 

"He developed minor flu like symptoms overnight and is being managed via the NSW Health virtual hospital and the Northern Sydney Public Health Unit."

 

Mr Hazzard is expected to continue working throughout his seven-day isolation period.

 

"Minister Hazzard is fully vaccinated and intends to continue work meetings virtually, via Teams," the statement said.

 

Mr Hazzard on Tuesday took a swipe at a Commonwealth health committee over its recommendation to remove the seven-day isolation period for close contacts of positive coronavirus cases.

 

The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) – comprised of state and territory chief health officers and the Chief Medical Officer – flagged the potential move following the peak of the BA.2 wave in a press release last week.

 

Mr Hazzard rubbished AHPPC's suggestion and labelled the committee's guidance as the "lowest common denominator advice".

 

"Here in NSW, we have led the way in terms of the response to COVID and we're currently seeing a good balance of life, which is what we want," he said at a press conference in response to a question about the recommendation.

 

"I will be saying to the community, at the present time, that we should still exercise extreme caution, we shouldn't be rushing forth to get rid of all the safety issues we know now.

 

"But we also need to understand removing all the restrictions around close contacts at this point, in my view and the view of Dr (Kerry) Chant, would be counterproductive."

Case against SAS soldier accused of mistreating corpses in East Timor collapsed after New Zealand witnesses were denied identity protections

 

The NZ Defence Force has told Four Corners it was "not an unusual requirement" for Kiwi SAS witnesses to have their identities shielded, and it "cannot confirm the details of why" this was rejected in the 2003 case.

 

The decision robbed defence prosecutors of their only eyewitnesses. As a result, the Australian soldier accused of brutalising corpses in East Timor in 1999 was found not guilty.

 

Secret documents obtained by Four Corners show the New Zealand SAS repeatedly raised concerns about their Australian comrades in East Timor, which was the last time they fought together.

 

While the Australian military court records remain suppressed, Four Corners has learned a defence magistrate ruled the New Zealanders should be named in proceedings out of fairness to the soldier, whom Four Corners has called Operator K.

 

Following this ruling, the NZ SAS witnesses did not take the stand.

 

The NZDF said in a statement "protection of the identity of members of the NZDF NZSAS is a fundamental aspect of the operational capability".

 

The conditions of anonymity outlined by the NZDF were the same as those granted to Australian SAS witnesses in the defamation trial involving Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith.

 

"We believe that our requirement was our standard procedures for ID protection, i.e. that NZSAS personnel would only be known by names such as 'Trooper B'," the NZDF said.

 

"It would also be common practice to have NZSAS witnesses screened in court, and prevent their names from being used or published.

 

"Their actual names would be provided to the court and defence on paper.  

 

"This is not an unusual requirement.

 

"We cannot confirm the details of why the ID protection measures were not met in this case."

Independent candidate Allegra Spender under fire over anti-Israel campaigner Blair Palese

 

Allegra Spender’s campaign in Wentworth is under pressure over shocking anti-Israel comments made by a prominent election volunteer.

 

A prominent anti-Israel activist who has attacked Australia’s support of the middle eastern country has been campaigning for Wentworth's independent candidate, Allegra Spender.

 

Ms Spender’s campaign in one of Australia’s largest Jewish communities has come under fire over tweets and re-tweets by Blair Palese claiming Israel was an “apartheid” state.

 

In one social media post, Ms Palese blasted Australia’s “shocking support of Israel in killing unarmed children and civilians”.

 

The climate activist has also played a prominent role in the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement, according to The Australian.

 

She has actively called for the boycott of events over grants from Israeli organisations or institutions such as the Sydney Festival which received a $20,000 donation from the Israeli Embassy.

 

Ms Palese was a key figure in the Wentworth Independents movement which sought to identify a potential candidate to take on incumbent Liberal MP, Dave Sharma, in the upcoming election.

 

Following Ms Spender accepting the group’s offer to run, Ms Palese has since been seen wearing ‘Vote 1 Allegra Spender’ paraphernalia.

 

According to reporting from Sky News host Sharri Markson in The Australian, the Wentworth Independents group registered Ms Spender’s campaign website domain name.

 

Ms Spender denied Ms Palese was a key member of her campaign, instead suggesting the activist was part of Wentworth Independents.

 

Sky News host Rita Panahi said the independent candidate was relying on “irrelevant distinctions to distract from this latest scandal”.

 

“What does it say then of Spender's judgement that she wants to represent an electorate with a vast number of Jewish constituents yet her campaigners include those who despise Israel,” she continued.

NY Democratic Rep. failed to report nearly $900,000 in stock trades: Ethics complaint

 

"[H]is delay was so egregiously extreme it was impossible for the public to monitor those trades," FACT wrote.

 

An Office of Congressional Ethics complaint filed Monday shows Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., failed to properly disclose more than $885,000 in stock transactions as required by law.

 

Suozzi did not report at least 31 stock transactions from September 2017 to June 2021 until last month, the complaint claims.

 

The congressman's trades "involved 9 companies that are either clearly regulated or affected by Congressional action, such as Apple, Altria Group, Boeing, BlackRock, Caterpillar, Citigroup, Cisco Systems, General Electric, IBM, and Verizon Communications," the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) wrote in a letter to the Congressional Ethics office.

 

Representatives must legally report any financial transaction of $1,000 or more within 30 days after they occur. They also must be included in annual congressional reports.

 

Suozzi did not respond to a request for comment from The Epoch Times, which originally reported on the complaint.

 

"Suozzi not only failed to make timely and accurate disclosures, but his delay was so egregiously extreme it was impossible for the public to monitor those trades," FACT wrote to the ethics office.

 

The New York Democrat was the subject of a September 2021 complaint for allegedly failing to disclose about 300 trades, FACT noted. The reportedly undisclosed trades were discovered by the Campaign Legal Center, which found that his transactions may have valued at up to $11 million, Epoch reported.

 

If found to be in violation of disclosure laws, members of Congress face up to one year in prison and a fine of more than $60,000, the Campaign Legal Center stated.

MOSCOW – A plane carrying two U.S. senators was detained for several hours Sunday while trying to leave Russia, before being permitted to leave the country for Ukraine, according to spokesmen for the lawmakers.

 

Sens. Richard Lugar (search), R-Ind., chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Barack Obama (search), D-Ill., who had both been visiting storage sites for weapons of mass destruction, were held at an airport in the Ural Mountain city of Perm for several hours, but were allowed to leave after talks between U.S. and Russian officials.

 

"I am in Ukraine with Sen. Lugar," Lugar's spokesman, Andy Fisher, said in a message sent from a personal messaging device Sunday afternoon.

 

He said Russian officials refused to let the plane take off for three hours and insisted on boarding it. "They did not. The border patrol finally got orders to let us go," Fisher said.

 

"We were treated just fine," he said.

 

A spokesman for Obama also confirmed the plane's arrival in Ukraine.

 

The senators and their aides spent three days in Russia visiting sites where warheads are stored before destruction under the U.S.-funded Comprehensive Threat Reduction program (search).

 

The spokesmen did not have information on the nature of the dispute that resulted in the senators' being held. Telephone calls to the Russian border guard service and Foreign Ministry were not answered Sunday evening.

In my 44 years of life & my fathers 76 years of life we have never seen tornadoes touch down or such bad weather in our area during April. We live in the SouthEast & this just doesn’t happen during early April in our area. We have had freak snow events, ice events, flooding & severe heat but never this.

Something just wasn’t right about this weather today. We had a total of 7 tornado warnings & multiple touch down & cause massive destruction around where I live.

Georgia’s legislature passed a bill expanding the power of the Georgia Bureau of Investigtion (GBI) to investigate election fraud without being directed by the Secretary of State’s office.

 

Georgia’s 2020 election was littered with fraud and ballot stuffing. After several days of counting by liberal activists and hired hands Joe Biden pulled off a stunning upset in the state where he had absolutely zero support.

 

The new law will bypass shady Brad Raffensperger who lied about the situation in Georgia and allowed hundreds of ballot traffickers to operate in the state.

Georgia’s legislature approved a bill expanding law enforcement’s power to investigate election fraud over the objections of voting rights groups, adding to a wave of Republican-backed legislation passed after former President Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was rigged.

 

The legislation passed late Monday would give the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the state’s top investigative agency, the authority to initiate probes of election crimes. Under current law, the secretary of state’s office looks into allegations of irregularities and can ask the GBI for assistance as needed.

 

Trump has fiercely criticized Governor Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, both fellow Republicans, for their refusal to overturn the results of the 2020 election, in which President Joe Biden became the first Democrat in nearly 30 years to win the state.

 

Raffensperger and state election officials have said there were no major problems with the election results after conducting multiple audits and investigations. Trump has endorsed Republican challengers to both Kemp and Raffensperger and held rallies with them in Georgia on March 26.
