Boston Hospital LOSES Baby’s Remains, Claims She Was Thrown Away With Soiled Linens and Medical Waste

 

Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston is facing a lawsuit after allegedly losing the remains of a premature baby that had passed away.

 

The hospital claims that the baby was likely thrown away with soiled linens and medical waste by mistake, while her family was planning the funeral.

 

Alana Ross and Daniel McCarthy had a baby that they named Everleigh on July 25, 2020 — though she was very premature and suffered medical issues that landed her in the newborn intensive care unit.

 

It was not until August 1 that the new parents were allowed to hold their baby, but they were informed that the hospital had exhausted their medical treatments and Everleigh passed away just a few days later.

 

According to a report from Boston 25, the lawsuit explains that an unnamed hospital staffer informed the couple that Everleigh’s body would “safely be transported to the morgue” while they prepared the funeral arrangements. When the nurse brought the body to the morgue, they were reportedly told to “put it anywhere.”

 

However, when workers from the funeral home arrived to pick up the baby’s body — it was gone.

 

“The hospital also allegedly failed to electronically document her remains, which were said to be left on a metal rack designated for adults,” the report explains. “The documents further stated that Everleigh’s remains were likely thrown away with ‘soiled linens’ from the morgue.”

 

The sketchy story does not end there.

 

When notified about the missing body, the Boston Police Department sprung into action and found out where the medical waste was transported to.

 

While attempting to find Everleigh, the officers spent many hours “digging through blood-soaked clothing, feces-covered linens, and other medical waste,” but she was no where to be found, according to the police.

 

Boston 25 reported, “when asked how likely it was that he threw away the baby in a soiled linen container, a worker told investigators that it ‘seems like the likely scenario’ and that ‘mistakes of other people who have access to the morgue set off a chain of events that were unavoidable.'”

 

The hospital provided the following comment to the local station:

 

“We continue to express our deepest sympathies and most sincere apologies to the Ross and McCarthy family for their loss and the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding it,” said Sunil Eappen, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

 

“As with any instance in which there is a concern raised related to our standard of care or practice, we readily and transparently shared the details with the patient’s family. We always evaluate both system and human factors that contribute to errors or potential issues raised by patients, family members or staff and take action. Due to pending litigation, we are unable to comment specifically on this case,” said Dr. Eappen.

 

Everleigh is still missing to this day.

New York state court strikes down New York City's noncitizen voting law

 

A New York court struck down New York City's noncitizen voting law Monday, ruling that the law violated the state's constitution and state election laws.

 

In a 13-page opinion obtained by the Daily Caller's Henry Rodgers, the New York Supreme Court for Richmond County ruled against Mayor Eric Adams and the New York City Council, declaring that a law permitting noncitizen lawful permanent residents and green card holders to vote in municipal elections was illegal.

 

"The New York State Constitution explicitly lays the foundation for ascertaining that only proper citizens retain the right to voter privileges," Judge Ralph J. Rorzio wrote. "It is this Court's belief that by not expressly including non-citizens in the New York State Constitution, it was the intent of the framers for non-citizens to be omitted."

 

"Based upon the foregoing analysis, the Court finds that the Municipal Voting Law explicitly violates the New York State Constitution, as only 'citizens' may vote in elections," the judge ruled.

 

Last December, the New York City Council passed a law extending the right to vote in local elections to noncitizen immigrants who live, work, and pay taxes in New York City. Democratic state officials and immigration activists celebrated the law, which was expected to enfranchise more than 800,000 new voters beginning in 2023.

 

But the Republican National Committee and state GOP officials challenged the law on the grounds that it violated the state's constitution, as well as state election law and New York's Municipal Home Rule Law.

 

Rorzio's opinion agreed with the RNC's claims and declared the noncitizen voting law null and void.

 

"The Municipal Voting Law is 'impermissible simply and solely for the reason that the Constitution says that it cannot be done,'" Rorzio wrote.

 

"The New York State Constitution expressly states that citizens meeting the age and residency requirements are entitled to register and vote in elections. The New York State Election Law reaffirms that citizens meeting the age and residency requirements are entitled to register and vote in elections. There is no statutory ability for the City of New York to issue inconsistent laws permitting non-citizens to vote and exceed the authority granted to it by the New York State Constitution."

 

The decision was welcomed by Republican Party of New York chairman Nick Langworthy.

 

"This is another victory for citizen rights, election integrity, and the rule of law. The judge affirmed that this brazen attempt to give voting rights to non-citizens is in direct violation of the law and a common-sense reading of the Constitution," Langworthy said in a statement.

A dozen members of a religious group have been arrested over the death of an eight-year-old girl in southern Queensland.

Elizabeth's parents, 50-year-old Jason Struhs and 46-year-old Kerrie Struhs, have already been charged over the girl's death.

 

Police said the group was aware of the eight-year-old's medical condition and did not seek medical assistance.

 

More than 30 officers conducted a search at a residence in Homestead Avenue, in Harristown, where 12 residents were arrested.

 

Massive investigation

 

Detective Acting Superintendent Garry Watts said the investigation was unprecedented.

 

"In my 40 years of policing, I've never faced a matter like this," he said.

 

"And I'm not aware of a similar event in Queensland, let alone Australia."

 

Detective Watts said the group were expected to be charged tonight and appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

 

Sources have told the ABC the religious group is a small and tight-knit group with no ties to any established church in Toowoomba.

 

Parents charged

 

Jason and Kerrie Struhs, who are facing charges including murder, torture, and failing to provide necessities of life, were last before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court in late June.

 

Appearing via video link the pair again chose to represent themselves.

 

They were remanded in custody and will return to court later in July.

Exclusive: US fighters 'captured' by Russian forces in Ukraine

Robert Drueke and Andy Huynh are both veterans of the US military who travelled to the front line to help in the war effort

 

Two former US servicemen have been captured during fighting with Russian forces in Ukraine, The Telegraph has been told.

 

The pair were taken prisoner during a fierce battle outside the north-east city of Kharkiv last week, according to comrades who were fighting alongside them.

 

Alexander Drueke, 39, and Andy Huynh, 27, had been serving as volunteers with a regular Ukrainian army unit. They are believed to be the first US servicemen to end up as Russian prisoners of war.

 

They join a growing number of Western military volunteers captured by Russian forces, including at least two Britons.

 

Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner have already been told they face the death penalty as "mercenaries".

 

The capture of the two Americans will be diplomatically sensitive as the Kremlin may seek to use it as proof that America is becoming directly involved in the war. Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, is likely to demand significant concessions to release them.

 

A comrade of the two men, who asked not to be named, told The Telegraph said that they had been captured after running into a much larger Russian force during a battle last Thursday.

 

"We were out on a mission and the whole thing went absolutely crazy, with bad intel," he said. "We were told the town was clear when it turned out the Russians were already assaulting it.

 

"They came down the road with two T72 tanks and multiple BMP3s (armoured fighting vehicles) and about 100 infantry. The only thing that was there was our 10-man squad."

 

The squad set up defensive positions, during which time Mr Drueke and Mr Huynh fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a Russian vehicle, destroying it.

 

That, however, drew the attention of one of the tanks, which fired a shot in their direction but which is thought to have missed.

 

Shortly afterward, the tank was crippled by an anti-tank mine that the Ukrainian squad had left in the road. The two Americans then vanished in the fog of battle, and are thought to have been captured by the Russian infantry soldiers.

 

"We suspect that they were knocked unconscious by either the anti-tank mine, or by the tank shooting at them, because later search missions found not sign of them, nothing," their comrade said.

 

"Afterwards we sent drones up and had a Ukrainian search team on the ground but we found nothing: if they had been hit by the tank shell there would have been remains of their bodies or equipment at the scene."

 

He said his suspicions were confirmed later that night when a message appeared on a Russian Telegram channel claiming that two American servicemen had been taken PoW near Kharkiv.

 

"It is too much of a coincidence for that to have happened otherwise – we are the only Americans fighting in this area."

So, something I thought compelling from the Roe case opinion… The Roe court explicitly detailed some of the factors that may logically influence an individual's "thinking" on the issue of abortion, right at the beginning of the Roe opinion. I pasted at the bottom, but the "population growth" example gets at me every time…

There's got to be more to it, as sick as we know them to be… Either way, that the 1973 court even mentions population growth is telling. To me, it clearly hints at an even more sinister impetus for issuing the Roe opinion in the first place, far above the alleged need to protect a woman's right to privacy and due process… The excerpt from Roe:

But the man on the receiving end of the call — Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger — says looking back he views the call as "just a conversation" in which he conveyed to the 45th president that allegations about election irregularities in Georgia simply were not supported by the facts.

 

In an interview with Just the News, Raffensperger pointedly declined to say anything threatening or illegal happened on the call, though he previously has claimed in a book he took the call as a threat.

 

"Well, it's pretty obvious what the president wanted," Raffensperger said during an interview aired Tuesday on the John Solomon Reports podcast. "We all want to win. I get that."

 

Recounting many of the allegations Trump and his allies mentioned on the call — from thousands of dead or underage voters to illegal ballots mysteriously appearing in the Atlanta voting center — Raffensperger said every claim was evaluated and probed by his office, the FBI or the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and none could be corroborated, with many being outright debunked.

 

Trump allies, for instance, claimed there were 10,000 or more ballots cast by deceased people. An audit, in fact, found only four.

 

"So I settled that," Raffensperger said. "And I know there is a lot of urban legends out there. But I look at what President Trump wanted. And it's just obvious that his people really filled him with a lot of misinformation and falsehoods. And maybe perhaps they believed it. But it was never supported by the facts."

 

Raffensperger, however, did reveal a new election integrity issue his office is investigating right now: an allegation of systematic ballot harvesting during the state's 2020 general election and subsequent U.S. Senate runoff contests. He said he may soon issue subpoenas to secure critical evidence in that probe. ..

If you own a fainting couch, now might be a good time to list it for sale. Given the pearl-clutching panic currently on display among the pro-abortion crowd, you should make a pretty penny.

 

Notwithstanding the hysteria that has ensued in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson rulingeffectively overturning Roe v. Wade, not much has changed. Abortion is still widely available in this country and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Dobbs has not banned abortion in the United States, only given it to the states to regulate as they see fit.

 

Still, perhaps the Chicken Littles are on to something. Let’s briefly consider what did and didn’t change when the court handed down its decision on June 24.

 

What Dobbs Didn’t Change

 

If you want an abortion in this country, you can get one. Yes, trigger laws have led to more than a dozen states either banning abortion or beginning the process of doing so.

 

But even if you live in one of those states, the pro-abort contingent is rushing to make sure you are aware of all the ways you can still obtain an abortion: by traveling to a state where it is allowed, by ordering abortion pills from an online pharmacy, or by purchasing them from an overseas provider. And companies like Amazon and Citigroup have promised to help their employees who want abortions to get them. It helps their bottom line, after all.

 

But more important than the ongoing availability of abortion is the continuing desire of women to obtain them. One Supreme Court case doesn’t alter people’s beliefs, nor does it change their hearts. As long as there are women who want to get abortions (and men who pressure them into it), the scourge of abortion will remain.

 

What Dobbs Did Change

 

Why, then, the celebration? If abortion is still with us, why are those in the pro-life cause so jubilant?

 

Because while in one sense, nothing has changed — not the basic availability of abortion in the United States, the hearts and minds of those who promote and seek it, or the greed of those who will provide it — in another sense, everything has changed. No longer is the United States a country where abortion on demand is the default. No longer is the federal government in the express business of advocating for the “right” of a woman to have an abortion while ignoring the right of the child in the womb to live.

 

“Roe’s defenders characterize the abortion right as similar to the rights recognized in past decisions,” the opinion explained, “but abortion is fundamentally different, as both Roe and Casey acknowledged, because it destroys what those decisions called ‘fetal life’ and what the law now before us describes as an ‘unborn human being.’”

 

The Supreme Court’s refusal in Dobbs v. Jackson to continue a 50-year-old policy of preventing states from regulating abortion as they see fit is not going to lead to an immediate and wholesale change in the way Americans view abortion. But history shows that governments do affect the way people live….

Researchers noted that estradiol is one of the most common hormones given during gender transitions, and they said they sought to figure out whether that hormone could make people more susceptible to HIV infection. The government made a bet on a study out of Reed College in Portland, Oregon, that entailed trying to teach pigeons to gamble via slot machines. It is not immediately clear how participants in the study were able to goad the pigeons into gambling. As of Wednesday, the WNBA has not offered a statement on Phillips' untimely death. Representatives for the Dallas Wings, the franchise formerly known as the Tulsa Shock, did not immediately reply to Insider's request for comment.

Troops in Ukraine will need to spend weeks learning to use the rocket systems that the White House announced as part of a new aid package to Kyiv, the Pentagon said.

Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that MICHAEL AVENATTI was sentenced today in Manhattan federal court by United States District Judge Jesse M. Furman to 48 months in prison for fraud and aggravated identity theft. AVENATTI was previously found guilty on February 4, 2022, following a two-week jury trial.

 

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said: “Lawyers have a duty to be loyal and advocates for their clients. Far from being a loyal advocate for his client, Michael Avenatti stole his client’s identity and her money in order to line his own pockets. Now, Avenatti will serve a substantial prison sentence for his brazen crimes and betrayal of his client.”

 

According to the allegations in the Indictment, court documents, and evidence presented at trial:

 

AVENATTI met Stormy Daniels in February 2018, when she was seeking an attorney to assist her with respect to a non-disclosure agreement that she had earlier signed with President Donald Trump. Daniels later signed a book deal to publish her memoir, and AVENATTI, pretending to act as her attorney and in her interests, stole a portion of the advance on that deal by directing her literary agent to send the money to a bank account AVENATTI controlled.

 

Specifically, AVENATTI stole two installments of Daniels’ book advance, totaling $297,500. AVENATTI sent to Daniels’ literary agent a fraudulent and unauthorized letter purporting to be from Daniels and appearing to bear her signature, which directed that future payments be sent to a bank account controlled by AVENATTI. In fact, AVENATTI wrote the letter himself, never received authorization from Daniels, and caused Daniels’ signature to be copied and pasted from another document onto the letter without her consent.

 

After transmitting the fraudulent letter to Daniels’ literary agent, AVENATTI received an installment of Daniels’ advance, worth $148,750, and promptly spent the money to satisfy his own personal and business expenses. When Daniels began inquiring of AVENATTI as to why she had not received the payment, AVENATTI lied to Daniels, telling her that her publisher had not made the payment. Approximately one month after diverting the payment, after Daniels threatened to go directly to her publisher about the missing payment, AVENATTI obtained a personal loan to pay $148,750 to Daniels, so that Daniels would not realize that AVENATTI had previously taken and used Daniels’ money.

 

A short time later, AVENATTI pressured the publisher to make the next installment payment early, purportedly at Daniels’ request though in truth without her awareness. AVENATTI soon received that installment, another payment of $148,750, which he again spent for his own purposes. For months after he had stolen this installment, Daniels repeatedly asked AVENATTI about the missing payment and, after he again falsely claimed that the publisher had not made the payment, asked that AVENATTI, as her lawyer, assist her in obtaining the book payment. AVENATTI continued to lie and claim that he was fighting with the publisher on her behalf when, as he knew, the publisher had made the payment early, but that he had stolen it. At the same time, further to avoid discovery of his scheme, AVENATTI, purporting to act as Daniels’ attorney, told her publisher and literary agent not to respond to direct requests for information from Daniels.

In addition to the prison sentence, AVENATTI, 51, of Los Angeles, California, was sentenced to three years of supervised release, as well as restitution and forfeiture. AVENATTI is currently serving a thirty-month sentence for extorting NIKE, Inc., imposed by Judge Paul G. Gardephe in United States v. Avenatti, 19 Cr. 373. Thirty months of imprisonment in this case were imposed consecutively with AVENATTI’s other sentence, and the remainder will run concurrently.

 

Mr. Williams praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Agents of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

 

The cases are being handled by the Office’s Public Corruption Unit. Assistant United States Attorneys Matthew Podolsky, Robert B. Sobelman, and Andrew A. Rohrbach are in charge of the prosecution.

Moderna Vaccine Increases Myocarditis Risk by 44 Times in Young Adults: Peer-Reviewed Study

A French peer-reviewed study concluded that for both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, the risk of myocarditis skyrockets a week after vaccination.

 

The risk of myocarditis after mRNA vaccination was 8 times and 30 times greater than unvaccinated control groups for BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) and mRNA-1273 (Moderna), respectively.

 

The largest association for myocarditis following the Moderna jab was 44 times higher risk for persons aged 18 to 24 years.

 

As for the Pfizer shot, in relation to the same age group, the risk was 13 times higher.

 

Infection with the Chinese Communist Party virus yielded, by comparison, a 9 times greater risk of the same condition.

 

Myocarditis refers to the inflammation of the heart muscle—a life-threatening condition. There are many established causes for this heart condition. The leading cause—according to modern science’s most recent discoveries—is viruses; but during the pandemic, COVID mRNA vaccines have earned a place as a top suspect for myocarditis.

 

The new study’s goal was to provide an assessment of association with vaccines across sex and age groups.

 

“Both SARS-CoV2 infection and COVID mRNA vaccines have been associated with myocarditis. Knowing the spike protein’s affinity to ACE2 receptors in the heart and spike protein’s injury to cardiomyocytes (cells of the heart), the association of myocarditis with SARS-CoV2 virus or spike protein-based mRNA vaccination was not entirely unexpected,” Dr. Sanjay Verma, a cardiologist, told The Epoch Times via email.

 

Verma also thinks the CDC’s analysis “erroneously suggests” that risk of myocarditis after SARS-CoV2 infection is greater than after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination.

 

“For the cases of myocarditis after SARS-CoV2, CDC uses officially confirmed PCR+ ‘cases,’ even though their own seroprevalence data demonstrates that far more people have been infected than officially conformed PCR+ ‘cases.’ For example, seroprevalence data as of Feb 21, 2022, reveals 75 percent (about 54 million) of all children have been infected compared to 12 million officially confirmed PCR+ ‘cases’ (i.e., the actual number of kids infected is 4.5 times greater than PCR+ ‘cases’). Therefore, calculating the risk of myocarditis after SARS-CoV2 infection, the rate noted by CDC would therefore need to be reduced by 4.5 times. Thus far, CDC has not adjusted its COVID-19 morbidity and mortality data accordingly,” said the cardiologist, who practices in Coachella Valley, California.

 

The study analyzed 1,612 cases of myocarditis and 1,613 cases of pericarditis in France from May 12, 2021, to Oct. 31, 2021, involving 32 million people aged 12 to 50 years who received 46 million doses of mRNA vaccines.

 

It is limited by using solely hospital discharge diagnoses. Therefore, it does not include those who may have died before being hospitalized or those whose symptoms were not severe enough to be hospitalized.

 

“There have been reports (pdf) of autopsy-proven myocarditis after vaccination and anecdotal evidence of patients being dismissed by ER and never being hospitalized. Adjusting for these excluded subsets may yield even higher risk than reported in this study. Follow-up of the patients in this study was limited to one month after discharge. However, a previous cardiac MRI study found about 75 percent of patients with vaccine-associated myocarditis can have persistent MRI abnormalities 3–8 months after initial diagnosis,” Verma said.

 

The authors of the study didn’t analyze the effect of booster vaccination since it is not yet recommended for young adults in France.

 

In the United States, however, booster injections are mandated by colleges and universities, employers, and even some state public health departments irrespective of age or prior infection.

 

“In a preprint follow-up to their peer-reviewed study of myocarditis after vaccination, analysis found continued incremental risk of myocarditis after booster vaccination. In fact, while many countries have refrained from recommending COVID vaccination in very young children because the risks do not justify the benefits, the U.S. stands alone in recommending it in the youngest of kids,” Verma said.

 

A research paper published on May 18 studied the pandemic control measures—which included vaccine and mask mandates, as well as isolation and contact tracing—of Cornell University, which was almost completely vaccinated, and found these policies were “not a match” for the Omicron variant and its rapid spread.

The Vatican hailed the U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, but said it is imperative that people who identify as “pro-life” also fight for other critical life-protecting issues like gun control.

 

“Being for life always means defending it against the threat of firearms, which unfortunately have become a leading cause of death of children and adolescents in the U.S.,” the Vatican’s editorial director Andrea Tornielli chided Saturday in an essay.

 

“Pro-life” is not just about opposing abortion, he pointed out. Anti-abortion activists must be concerned with all issues that threaten life, such as easy access to guns, poverty and rising maternity mortality rates, which are alarmingly high in the U.S., Tornielli emphasized.

 

The maternal mortality rate in the U.S. has climbed from 20.1 deaths of women per 100,000 live births in 2019 to 23.8 per 100,000 in 2020, he noted, citing statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

 

And “strikingly,” maternal mortality rates are three times higher for Black women in the U.S., Tornielli added.

 

“Being for life, always, means asking how to help women welcome new life,” he added, noting that that 75% of women in America who have abortions live in poverty or are low-wage earners. And only 16% of workers in private industry have paid parental leave, he added.

 

“We can hope … that the debate on the U.S. Supreme Court ruling will not be reduced to an ideological confrontation, but will prompt all of us … to reflect on what it means to welcome life, to defend it, and to promote it with appropriate legislation,” Tornielli emphasized.

 

The U.S. Conference of Bishops and the Vatican’s Academy for Life praised the Supreme Court ruling on Friday. But the Academy for Life also called for social changes to help women keep their children.

 

Pope Francis celebrated families on Saturday, but didn’t mention the ruling. And he warned families not to be “poisoned by the toxins of selfishness, individualism [and] today’s culture of indifference and waste.”

What made those posts of pics even more suspicious was there was no providence given for them… no sauce as we say and when asked for where they come from we got no answer… so they were intentionally dropped by someone working with the conspiracy… and what brought it all together was far left TRUMP HATERS at that moment started Tweeting out how this guy was a QANON Trump supporter and the massacre was OUR Fault.

Nope. See there is one problem with that… Patriots WOULD NOT SHOOT UP A 4th of July parade celebrating the birth of OUR NATION. It does not make sense.

Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney built his $250 million fortune with the help of two of Britain's most disreputable business figures - Guinness fraudster Jack Lyons and crooked newspaper boss Robert Maxwell.

 

In the 1980s both men invested large sums in the Republican candidate's first private equity fund, started during his years at Bain & Company, which launched his now highly controversial career in finance.

 

Flamboyant publishing tycoon Maxwell was the former head of the left-wing Mirror Group newspapers and a one-time owner of the New York Daily News.

 

He died in mysterious circumstances in 1991 at the age of 68 after falling overboard from his luxury yacht off the Canary Islands after which it was discovered he had plundered hundreds of millions from an employee pension scheme.

 

Lyons, who died in 2008, was one of the notorious 'Guinness Four' convicted for a massive share trading fraud in which they attempted to inflate the price of Guinness shares to assist a take-over bid for Scottish drinks company Distillers.

 

He was subsequently fined £4 million for theft and false accounting and stripped of his knighthood.

 

In 1984 Lyons, a former colleague of Mr Romney's at Bain & Company, along with members of his family invested almost $3million in Mr Romney's capital fund.

 

He then recruited Maxwell who invested $2 million in the fund.

 

Both Lyons and Maxwell kept money in tax havens and the latest revelations will be a blow to Romneywhose financial career is increasingly being brought into question.

 

Romney has claimed his fortune and career history is proof of his ability to run the country.

 

Mr Romney was a senior management consultant at Bain during one of the most controversial periods in the firm's history when they became caught up in the Guinness scandal as advisers to the drinks firm.

 

Bain Capital, the firm's investment arm, was set up by Mr Romney in 1981 and run from his Boston office.

 

Lyons was hired to help set up a British office and became the fund's first investor with a $2.5 million stake via a front company in Panama.

One Bain executive based in London at the time told the paper: 'Jack took an interest in Bain almost as if we were his sons.

 

'He wanted us to succeed in the UK and he introduced us to a lot of people . . . I remember attending a luncheon in London with Robert Maxwell.'

 

Around $12 million was invested by Bains partners including Mr Romney who is believed to have put up at least $160,000.

 

The fund was phenomenally successful, and according to a prospectus, yielded an average return of 173 per cent a year on stakes in 21 firms.

 

In 1986 Lyons joined a group of Guinness allies buying up stock in the firm in an attempt to boost the share price prior to a takeover bid for rival firm Distillers.

 

It was a success and at the time Bill Bain, the firm's founder and Mr Romney's mentor, wrote to Lyons saying: 'We are all delighted and look forward to hearing the story of how you managed to pull it off.'

 

Lyons and three others were later convicted of theft and false accounting. Lyons avoided jail due to ill health. but he was stripped of his knighthood and CBE, and fined £4 million.

 

Although there is no suggestion that Mr Romney, nor anyone at Bain in Boston had any knowledge of the wrongdoing a Bain employee in London described the period as 'traumatic'.

 

He told the Telegraph: 'Mitt was just another partner watching this thing unfold.'

 

Another British former colleague described him as 'bloodless'adding 'He was the sort of person that you would admire rather than like, and I think that continues to bedevil his political career.'

Olivet University, aChristian college with ties to a co-owner of Newsweek, is under investigation again, just two years after it was fined in a money laundering case, federal and local officials said.

 

The new probe, conducted by the federal government, is also investigating money laundering in addition to human and labor trafficking and visa fraud, a former senior official of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told Newsweek. The former official, who was briefed on the investigation, characterized it as "complex and significant."

 

Agents from Homeland Security Investigations, the principal investigative arm of DHS, searched Olivet's campus in Anza, California, a year ago along with police from Riverside County, officials said.

 

Newsweek confirmed the details in this story with seven current and former federal and local officials with knowledge of the Olivet case. In discussing the open investigation, most of the officials spoke to Newsweek on condition of anonymity; they were not authorized to speak to the media.

 

"A joint investigation by a local sheriff's office and HSI, given HSI's typical mandate, could suggest that such an investigation concerns matters beyond white collar financial crimes," Preston Burton, a former federal prosecutor and defense attorney who is not connected to the case, told Newsweek.

 

Olivet, a little-known Christian university founded by Korean-American cleric David Jang, was thrust into thenational media spotlight in 2018 when the Manhattan District Attorney charged it in a fraud and money laundering scheme. Olivet pled guilty to several charges and paid a $1.25 million fine. Tracy Davis, the president of Olivet University at the time of the guilty plea, was recently Dean for Academic Affairs.Her husband Johnathan Davis owns 50 percent of Newsweek.

 

Newsweek's CEO and President, Dev Pragad, who owns the other 50 percent, says he has left Jang's Christian sect, the World Olivet Assembly, and has no ties to Olivet University. Johnathan Davis is also CEO of IBT Media, which was Newsweek's corporate parent until 2018.

 

"The investigation included the principals of Olivet and their other corporate entities including IBT," the former DHS official said.

 

When asked whether Newsweek was a subject of the investigation, officials said the probe was focused on Olivet.

 

At leastfour federal and local agencies are investigating Olivet University, the officials said. Homeland Security Investigations confirmed to Newsweekthat the search warrant was executed on the school's Anza campus on April 21, 2021.

 

Federal agents who raided the campus in Southern California's "High Desert" region, about 90 miles northeast of San Diego, were looking for any evidence of "force, fraud, or coercion" in relation to international students who were primarily from China or South Korea, according to the former senior DHS official who was briefed on the case.

 

The former official, who retired from DHS after the search warrant was executed, told Newsweek that agents were investigating whether Olivet sponsored U.S. visas for foreign students,mostly from China, who then spent most of their time in the United States working rather than studying and who were paid well below minimum wage. The officials did not say what kind of work the students were suspected of doing.

Swedish Populists Call for Syrians, Somalis, and Afghans to Be Returned as Integration Fails

 

The populist Sweden Democrats (SD) have called for the repatriation of Syrians, Afghans, and Somalis, noting their rate of unemployment and high numbers who have not integrated.

 

Party leader Jimmie Åkesson and migration policy spokesman Ludvig Aspling have said the Swedish government needs to do more to return migrants to their homelands if they rely on state benefits and do not integrate.

 

“Since 2010, Sweden has granted over 1.2 million residence permits, equivalent to more than a brand new Stockholm. Unemployment is almost five times higher among foreign-born compared to native-born,” the pair wrote in a debate article for the newspaper Aftonbladet.

 

The pair add that among Syrians, Afghans, and Somalis, half of the adults earn incomes less than 100,000 Swedish kronor (£8,189/$10,235) per year, and that among foreign-born residents in general some 600,000 are not self-sufficient.

 

“Remigration is not a miracle solution, but the failures of recent decades show that it must be an option – a solution for all those who live in long-term exclusion,” they said, noting that while Sweden does have a subsidy for those wishing to return to their home countries it is seldom used.

 

“Incentive structures and the welfare system must be reformed, so that people in exclusion cannot get caught up in welfare dependency, but are either forced into society or encouraged to remigrate,” they wrote.

 

Åkesson and Aspling also cited the Danish approach to repatriating migrants, quoting Danish government minister Mattias Tesfaye, who has previously stated his goal is that Denmark would receive zero asylum seekers.

 

The concept of remigration was also used by former French presidential candidate Eric Zemmour during his campaign earlier this year. The populist said that he wished to create a new government ministry specifically to deal with the issue.

 

Zemmour proposed to send at least a million migrants back to their countries over a period of five years. A poll released in late March revealed that around two-thirds of French people supported a mass remigration of illegals, foreigners on terrorist watchlists, and foreign criminals.

Facebook Is Receiving Sensitive Medical Information from Hospital Websites

 

Experts say some hospitals’ use of an ad tracking tool may violate a federal law protecting health information

 

A tracking tool installed on many hospitals’ websites has been collecting patients’ sensitive health information—including details about their medical conditions, prescriptions, and doctor’s appointments—and sending it to Facebook.

 

The Markup tested the websites of Newsweek’s top 100 hospitals in America. On 33 of them we found the tracker, called the Meta Pixel, sending Facebook a packet of data whenever a person clicked a button to schedule a doctor’s appointment. The data is connected to an IP address—an identifier that’s like a computer’s mailing address and can generally be linked to a specific individual or household—creating an intimate receipt of the appointment request for Facebook.

 

A Third of Top Hospitals’ Websites Sent Patient Data to Facebook

 

The Markup found 33 of Newsweek’s top 100 hospitals in the country sending sensitive data to Facebook via the pixel. Data accurate as of June 15, 2022.

 

On the website of University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, for example, clicking the “Schedule Online” button on a doctor’s page prompted the Meta Pixel to send Facebook the text of the button, the doctor’s name, and the search term we used to find her: “pregnancy termination.”

 

Clicking the “Schedule Online Now” button for a doctor on the website of Froedtert Hospital, in Wisconsin, prompted the Meta Pixel to send Facebook the text of the button, the doctor’s name, and the condition we selected from a dropdown menu: “Alzheimer’s.”

 

The Markup also found the Meta Pixel installed inside the password-protected patient portals of seven health systems. On five of those systems’ pages, we documented the pixel sending Facebook data about real patients who volunteered to participate in the Pixel Hunt project, a collaboration between The Markup and Mozilla Rally. The project is a crowd-sourced undertaking in which anyone can install Mozilla’s Rally browser add-on in order to send The Markup data on the Meta Pixel as it appears on sites that they visit. The data sent to hospitals included the names of patients’ medications, descriptions of their allergic reactions, and details about their upcoming doctor’s appointments.
