Miss Brazil Gleycy Correia dead at 27 after routine tonsil surgery

A former beauty queen from Brazil was laid to rest Tuesday after dying a day earlier from complications due to a routine tonsil surgery, according to multiple media reports.

Gleycy Correia, 27, Miss United Continents Brazil 2018, died after having been in a coma for two months.

She had reportedly suffered massive bleeding and a heart attack only days after having had surgery to remove her tonsils.

If we gain intel that there's a bad guy doing somethingโ€ฆ Weโ€ฆ You have several choices. You can go in and arrest the guy and stop him from killing people, um, but if it's something more sophisticated, um, and it's something where there's an infrastructure or something in place, that is causing that problem and even if you take that guy out, it's not going to fix the bigger problem. And so, creating the ability to counter the bad guys is what Counter Intelligence isโ€ฆ.

 

In this particular case, there were multiple agencies working to counter the bad guys. This operation has been ongoing since on or about February 2021. It's been going on because we surfaced it. Our analysts surfaced the information. What's different about this one, as opposed to other times when we might surface information is that we were actually involved in the operation. We were communicating with people on both sides. We were communicating regularly with the federal agencies involved and we were providing them additional information that was relative to that communication. So there was a lot of things that were happening in this one that is not just like me taking a disk of the mules and handing it off to some FBI agent in, you know, whereverโ€ฆ St Louis. It wasn't like that.

 

This was something that they needed to actually embrace and work on. They weren't trying to necessarily solve a crime. What they were trying to do is prevent it from happening again. It is inside of that that this whole fiasco went haywire.

Biden Signs Gun Control Bill Into Law

 

President Joe Biden on Saturday signed into law the biggest gun control measure introduced in the United States in decades after the bipartisan bill cleared both houses of Congress.

'America First' is America at its best

It's disingenuous to link the movement with pre-World War II isolationists

OPINION:

 

As former Trump Administration national security officials who deeply believe in an America First approach to U.S. national security policy, we strongly object to the May 14 Washington Post editorial, โ€œโ€˜America Firstโ€™ is America at its worst,โ€ which smeared the โ€œAmerica Firstโ€ movement by associating it with isolationists of the 1930s and โ€™40s who tried to keep the United States out of World War II and claims those who support America First oppose providing Ukraine with more military aid.

 

These claims are false and misleading. We asked The Washington Post to run this rebuttal of their editorial, but they refused to publish this full response. Typical for the Post, it refuses to give the conservatives it attacks a fair opportunity to respond.

 

While there may be others in Washington who casually call themselves โ€œAmerica First,โ€ we at the America First Policy Institute served alongside former President Donald Trump in senior positions at the White House and in departments and agencies throughout the Executive Branch. We are among the leaders of the America First Movement. We have been abundantly clear in condemning Russian President Vladimir Putinโ€™s destructive invasion of Ukraine and the vile atrocities his military is committing there. We have repeatedly stated the urgency that the United States provide Ukraine with all the weaponry it needs to defend itself against Russiaโ€™s unjustifiable invasion.

 

It was disingenuous for the Post to associate the America First movement with isolationism or pre-World War II isolationists who opposed the United States entering World War II. Todayโ€™s America First calls for an independent and secure America with a strong military and alliances. We want to ensure Americaโ€™s supply chains and economy are stable and robust, and its people are safe. Through internal strength, our nation is best poised to lead and engage in the world and accomplish more for the American people and the peace, prosperity and freedom of others. America First is not isolationism. Rather, it is purposeful transactional engagement with other nations to serve American interests first.

 

As a result, although we support providing additional military support to Ukraine, including the recent approval by the House of $40 billion for this purpose, we share the concerns of some members of Congress that these funds be well spent, and alliance members contribute equitably. Frankly, we have strong concerns that, once again, America is doing more than its European allies. Sen. Rand Paul has a proposal to name an inspector general to oversee this funding. The special inspector general for Afghanistan was created for this purpose during the U.S. presence in Afghanistan. Given the current problems plaguing the U.S. economy and the fact that Ukraine is now the number one recipient of U.S. military aid, we believe it is essential to ensure accountability for the large sums America is committing to help Ukraine defend itself against the Russian invasion.

 

America First foreign policy and strong U.S. leadership make the world safer and represent America at its best. Contrary to many liberals, conservative hawks and deep state leakers, the leadership of Mr. Trump did not make the world less safe; it did exactly what it was designed to do โ€” make America strong again and the world a safer place with a purposeful, transactional foreign policy that put the interests of our nation and the American people first.

 

As history shows us, the only time this century Russia didnโ€™t invade a neighbor was during the four years when Mr. Trump served as commander in chief. America First does not mean America alone. As the only true guardians of America First foreign policy, we unquestionably oppose the Russian invasion of Ukraine; we want the United States to send the Ukrainian military the weapons it needs and ensure accountability for the military aid we are providing to Ukraine.

Senate OKs landmark gun violence bill, House passage is next

 

The Senate on Thursday easily approved a bipartisan gun violence bill that seemed unthinkable just a month ago, clearing the way for final congressional approval of what will be lawmakersโ€™ most far-reaching response in decades to the nationโ€™s run of brutal mass shootings.

 

 

After years of GOP procedural delays that derailed Democratic efforts to curb firearms, Democrats and some Republicans decided that congressional inaction was untenable after last monthโ€™s rampages in New York and Texas. It took weeks of closed-door talks but a group of senators from both parties emerged with a compromise embodying incremental but impactful movement to curb bloodshed that has come to regularly shock โ€” yet no longer surprise โ€” the nation.

 

 

The $13 billion measure would toughen background checks for the youngest gun buyers, keep firearms from more domestic violence offenders and help states put in place red flag laws that make it easier for authorities to take weapons from people adjudged dangerous. It would also fund local programs for school safety, mental health and violence prevention.

 

 

The election-year package fell far short of more robust gun restrictions Democrats have sought for years, including bans on the assault-type weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines used in the slayings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas. Yet the accord let leaders of both parties declare victory and demonstrate to voters that they know how to compromise and make government work, while also leaving room for each side to appeal to its core supporters.

 

 

โ€œThis is not a cure-all for the all the ways gun violence affects our nation,โ€ said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., whose party has made gun restrictions a goal for decades. โ€œBut it is a long overdue step in the right direction. Passing this gun safety bill is truly significant, and itโ€™s going to save lives.โ€

 

 

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., in a nod to the Second Amendment right to bear arms that drives many conservative voters, said โ€œthe American people want their constitutional rights protected and their kids to be safe in school.โ€ He said โ€œthey want both of those things at once, and that is just what the bill before the Senate will have accomplished.โ€

 

 

The day proved bittersweet for advocates of curtailing gun violence. Underscoring the enduring potency of conservative cIout, the right-leaning Supreme Court issued a decision expanding the right of Americans to carry arms in public. The justices struck down a New York law that has required people to prove a need for carrying a weapon before they get a license to do so.

 

 

The vote on final passage was 65-33.

Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, who helped shepherd many of those Supreme Court nominations, said this weekโ€™s rulings were victories for pro-life activistsโ€™ persistent, 50-year effort to use elections and policies to reverse the Roe v. Wade decision, one he said was based on "weak legal reasoning."

 

โ€œRegardless of your views on this issue, or any other issue for that matter, we all should respect the role of our impartial judiciary and the decisions that it renders.

 

"Weโ€™re blessed to live in a country where the people play a leading role in how we are governed. The people can advocate for policy priorities in the public square, the halls of Congress and at the ballot box, as so many pro-life Americans have done throughout the past five decades," he said.

 

Grassley also cautioned against liberals temptation to use violence or court packing to undo the current court.

 

"We all should respect the role of our impartial judiciary and the decisions that it renders," he said. "Seeking to intimidate or attack the court or undermine its credibility because of an outcome that you donโ€™t support is not the answer.โ€

 

Democrats were not as gracious.

 

President Joe Biden actually challenged the gun rights decision as "unconstitutional" and the abortion ruling as the "realization of extreme ideology."

 

Menawhile, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi vowed Friday to reverse the abortion ruling by enshrining Roe v. Wade in federal legislation while accusing the GOP of seeking a nationwide ban.

 

"It's a slap in the face to women about using their own judgement to make their own decisions about their reproductive freedom," she said, falsely claiming the Supreme Court was "criminalizing" abortion.

 

"It's all on the ballot in November," the California Democrat also said.

 

But even liberals had to concede the rulings were a direct result of the Trump presidency.

 

Pelosi called the justices the "Trumpian Supreme Court," while the New York Times declared Friday's ruling was "one of the signal legacies of President Donald J. Trump, who vowed to name justices who would overrule Roe."

 

Trump for his part deferred credit for the ruling Friday on abortion to a higher power.

 

"God made the decision," he told Fox News shortly after the ruling.

 

On Thursday, the 9-member, high court's conservative majority struck down New York law restricting concealed carry permits.

 

The former president, who hasn't decided yet whether he'll run for a second term in 2024, on Friday also declared a truism that many emotional Democrats were obfuscating on Friday: Abortion is not outlawed across America.

 

"I think, in the end, this is something that will work out for everybody," he said. "This brings everything back to the states where it has always belonged."

UPDATE ON YORKTOWN PHARMACY ARRESTSThree residents of Brooklyn N.Y. were just arraigned before the Honorable Judge Gary Raniolo. Prior to meeting his Honor, they all spent a lovely night in our Shawshank era jail cells. No charge for the blue jump suit, cardboard slippers and calming Christopher Cross music being played on a loop, in hopes of a peaceful nights rest. Bail was set at $100,000 for each arrestee. We are currently arranging an all expenses paid transport to the Westchester County Time Share (jail), until they either post bail or return for their future court date. Ask for the one room lockout unit, fellas. Names and addresses will be shared with the media. Much like Elaine Benes' communist boyfriend Ned Isakoff (Seinfeld episode for all who have no clue what this reference is about) we don't "name names." on YPD Facebook. You'll have no problem learning who these guys are by the end of the day. Oh, the criminal charges:

THE Pope's Swiss Guard has opened fire after a driver ploughed through a Vatican checkpoint, sending the site into a terror lockdown.

 

Italian police shot at the rogue driver's vehicle, hitting a wheel, after it veered through a checkpoint.

 

Fearing for the worst, the Carabinieri activated anti-terror protocols which saw the doors to the Vatican sealed shut by the Pope's own security entourage, known as the Swiss Guard.

 

A 39-year-old Albanian with a criminal record was arrested and was reported to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident, according to Spanish media outlet Hoy.

 

The man, who was driving a BMW, drew the attention of local cops in the Pantheon - a pedestrian zone - and asked him to stop.

 

He failed to stop and sped through streets of the Italian capital until he reached Via de la Conciliazione which leads to Saint Peter's Square in the Vatican.

The area was full of tourists and faithful due to Pope Francis giving a prayer from the window of his residence earlier in the day.

 

The car eventually stopped at Santo Oficio when two Carabineri opened fire on the vehicle, hitting a tyre and causing it to come to a complete standstill.

 

The suspect then fled from the car and was chased down by police and Carabineri patrols who were able to collar him in a nearby steet.

 

Before he was arrested, the man rammed his car into two officers, injuring them.

I am tired and weary of the bullshit from every side of the political continuum -particularly the professionally republican idiots- that continue to hide the reality of the situation. Nowhere does it say what the driver was stabbed with. Could he stab driver with handcuffs, while hand (and ankle) cuffed? How'd he run away so fast with ankle cuffs on to begin withโ€ฆ? Up until the past couple of years, many of us in the western world always considered shortages to be something that only โ€œunsophisticatedโ€ poor countries on the other side of the planet had to deal with. But the last couple of years have shown us that painful shortages can happen to wealthy countries in the western world too. At first we were told that they were โ€œjust temporaryโ€, but the months went by and we just kept having more shortages. In fact, in 2022 โ€œsupply problemsโ€ have become so serious that many supermarkets in Europe have been forced to strictly ration essential items at various times. For example, it was being reported that due to the war in Ukraine flour, sunflower oil and sugar were all being rationed by stores in Greeceโ€ฆ

 

After limiting the sale of some flours and sunflower oil online, Greek supermarkets are turning to rationing the sale of sugar as well, now including in their stores, over supply problems.

 

The AB Vassilopoulos is setting a maximum limit on the purchase of all brands of corn and sunflower oil and of flour per customer while Mymarket put a ceiling on sunflower oil purchases and Sklavenitis has added sugar to the rationed sales of corn oil through its online store, with a maximum of four packs, the products in high demand from restaurants, some of which said they have to stop selling french fries and other fried foods.

 

Over the past few months we have seen similar measures implemented in other major European nations as well. For example, the war in Ukraine prompted some pretty severe rationing in Spainโ€ฆ

 

Sporadic shortages of products like eggs, milk, and other dairy products also hit Spain since the war in Ukraine began. And major supermarkets including Mercadona and Makro began rationing sunflower oil earlier this month.

 

Now, stores will temporarily be allowed to limit โ€œthe number of goods that can be bought by a client,โ€ according to information in the Official State Gazette published on Wednesday.

 

Looking forward, natural gas rationing is the next big thing that many people in Europe are talking about. The flow of Russian natural gas into Europe has been cut back, and it appears that this may soon cause widespread rationing in Italyโ€ฆ

 

Italy may start rationing natural-gas consumption to certain industrial giants, after Russiaโ€™s Gazprom halved supplies on Friday.

 

On the weekend, the newspaper Corriere della Sera reported that the Italian government and energy industry would meet Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the crisis, with the likely outcome being the introduction of a state of alert under the countryโ€™s gas emergency protocol.

 

And CNN is reporting that Germany is โ€œone step closer to rationing suppliesโ€ now that Russia has decided to reduce the flow of natural gas going to that countryโ€ฆ

 

Europeโ€™s biggest economy is now officially running short of natural gas and is escalating a crisis plan to preserve supplies as Russia turns off the taps.

 

Germany on Thursday activated the second phase of its three-stage gas emergency program, taking it one step closer to rationing supplies to industry โ€” a step that would deliver a huge blow to the manufacturing heart of its economy.

 

Of course there are other parts of the globe that are dealing with problems that are far, far more serious than what Europe is facing right now.

 

As I discussed in an article that I posted earlier this week, significant numbers of people are starting to literally drop dead from starvation in portions of eastern Africa. Global food supplies just keep getting tighter, and the head of the UN is openly telling us that the world is heading into an โ€œunprecedented global hunger crisisโ€.

 

So if you have plenty of food to eat tonight, you should be thankful.

 

Here in the United States, economic conditions are deteriorating fairly rapidly, and most Americans are completely and totally unprepared for any sort of a major economic downturn. Earlier today, I came across yet another survey that shows that about 60 percent of all Americans are currently living paycheck to paycheckโ€ฆ

Republicans Should Move Congress Out Of Washington DC

House Republicans have started rolling out portions of the policy agenda they would pursue should they win the majority in Novemberโ€™s midterm elections. But that agenda shouldnโ€™t just focus on what legislation they will pass, but where they will pass it.

If they regain control of Congress, Republicans should take our democratic process back to where it belongs: With the people themselves. Such a move would not only educate the public about our system of government, it might also educate lawmakers who appear to spend most of their time in an elitist bubble.

Meeting Outside the Capital

While the Constitution prescribes a federal seat of government, it does not require Congress to meet there. Indeed, in its modern history, Congress has met outside Washington on two ceremonial occasions: To celebrate the Constitutionโ€™s bicentennial in Philadelphia in 1987, and in 2002 in New York, to commemorate the 9/11 attacks. Republican leaders should use these precedents to pledge that, if they regain control, they will hold a portion of the 118th Congress outside Washington.

Other policy-making bodies hold sessions outside a single capital building or city. The European Parliament famously splits its time between Strasbourg, France and Brussels, Belgium. Since 2008, when then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown revived the practice, Britainโ€™s Cabinet has met away from Westminster on more than a dozen occasions, in an attempt to understand the needs of citizens and regions outside metropolitan London.

Republicans should adopt this model for Congress, to get lawmakers both literally and figuratively outside their Beltway mentality. They should promise to spend one month of the year conducting business at a location away from Washington. For instance, if Congress moves elsewhere in July, members would escape the capitalโ€™s searing heat and humidity, while relocating temporarily to one of the 50 state capitals, most of which have ended their legislative sessions by mid-summer.

For logistical reasons, a state capital seems the likeliest location for a โ€œcitizen session,โ€ but where should Congress convene? Because state capitals like Boston, Austin, and Sacramento have a permanent political class and fever swamps that approach those of Washington, a more rural location seems far preferable to a metropolis.

The mountain West boasts several such capitals, from Helena to Cheyenne to Pierre. Montpelier, Vermont features a unique level of bipartisanshipโ€”a Republican governor working with a Democratic legislature in a deep-blue state. While New Hampshire already receives attention from presidential aspirants, its 400-member House of Representatives means its legislative chamber could easily accommodate 435 members of Congress.

Escaping Beltway Elites

Meeting in a state capital, particularly in a rural setting, would bring members of Congressโ€”to say nothing of the pressโ€”face-to-face with the types of voters they often only read about. Most Washington reporters venture out to the hinterlands on a limited basis, writing about Democratsโ€™ woes with rural voters solely after an election drubbing. Regularly interacting with such individuals over several weeks, rather than as a spectacle to be observed for a single story, might lead Washington insiders to think of rural voters as more than, as political strategist Rick Wilson once infamously put it, โ€œcredulous Boomer rube[s].โ€

Moving Congress elsewhere would also enlighten many Democratic lawmakers who spend practically all their time in a progressive bubble. Consider Maxine Waters with her 2018 comments calling on leftists to harass Trump administration officialsโ€”โ€œYou get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them theyโ€™re not welcome anymore, anywhereโ€โ€”if she actually had to interact with constituents who disagreed with her?

After the horrific events of last January 6, some would consider security concerns an insurmountable obstacle to Congress sitting elsewhere. But with the right amount of funding, coordination, and lead time, the Capitol Police and related agencies could solve these and other potential logistical concerns. The real question is, do members of Congress who have spent the past two years conducting committee sessions from homeโ€”occasionally in their underwearโ€”actually want to go out and meet their voters?

Some have promoted the concept of moving federal agencies outside Washingtonโ€”another commendable goal. But Republicans should go further, and contrast Democratsโ€™ โ€œZoom Congressโ€ with their proposal to put power back where it belongsโ€”with the people.

New York Democrats passed Gov. Kathy Hochulโ€™s (D) gun control wish list Thursday, including a ban on body armor purchases, a higher age minimum for โ€œsemiautomatic rifle purchases,โ€ and an expansion of the stateโ€™s red flag law.

 

The New York Times reported that Democrats โ€œplunged into the national debateโ€ with their gun control votes.

 

On June 1, Breitbart News noted that Gov. Hochul was reaching beyond firearms that Democrats call โ€œassault weapons,โ€ targeting โ€œsemiautomatic riflesโ€ in general.

 

On May 31 Hochul tweeted, โ€œNew York already has some of the toughest gun laws in the country โ€” but thereโ€™s more work to do to keep New Yorkers safe. We are going to strengthen gun laws, give law enforcement tools to prevent crime, & stop the spread of dangerous weapons.โ€

 

Hochul posted a summary of the new gun control bills to her website:

 

The bills would: require information sharing between state, local and federal agencies when guns are used in crimes; make threatening mass harm a crime; require microstamping for new guns; increase accountability for social media platforms; eliminate grandfathering of large capacity ammunition feeding devices; prohibit the purchase of body armor for anyone who is not engaged in an eligible profession; strengthen the Red Flag law by expanding the list of people who can file for Extreme Risk Protection Orders, and other measures; require that an individual obtain a license, with a minimum age of 21, to purchase a semiautomatic rifle; and close the โ€œany other weaponโ€ loophole.

 

New York Democrat legislators rallied behind gun control.

 

During debate, state Sen. Gustavo Rivera (D) praised the idea of requiring a permit for semiautomatic rifle purchases, saying, โ€œI want it to be a hassle.โ€
