RT witnesses UN nuclear experts’ work at Ukraine power plant (VIDEO)

International experts arrived at the Zaporozhye facility amid new escalation

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts have begun inspecting the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, RT reports from the facility.

Russia and Ukraine have been accusing each other of landing shells and missiles dangerously close to reactors and other crucial infrastructure. The inspectors arrived on Thursday, soon after reports emerged of renewed artillery fire and fierce combat in the vicinity of the plant.

“Rafael Grossi and the staff of the Zaporozhye plant are currently inspecting the location where the shells from Ukrainian artillery fell today,” RT’s Alexey Repin reports.

“It wasn’t part of the initial program, but the plans are changing in real time. For example, it was expected that the IAEA team would be traveling across the plant by cars, but, as we are seeing, they prefer to walk,” he says.

Europe’s biggest nuclear plant was seized by Russian troops shortly after Moscow launched a military operation in the neighboring country in late February. Several hours before the IAEA team’s arrival, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its forces had repelled a Ukrainian attempt to recapture the facility.

International inspectors are tasked with examining the general condition of the plant and assessing the damage to its facilities.

US prepared Ukraine for counteroffensive – CNN

Anonymous sources told the outlet that American assistance included “war-gaming” analytical exercises

American officials helped prepare the Ukrainian military for its counteroffensive against Russian forces in the south of the country, CNN claimed on Thursday, citing anonymous sources.

In its article, the US outlet alleged that this assistance included joint “war-gaming” analytical exercises designed to help the Ukrainians get a clear picture of how much personnel and hardware they would need in different scenarios. US officials, meanwhile, reportedly were able to better understand what kind of equipment, munitions or intelligence Washington could offer to Kiev.

According to the report, which cites multiple US and Western officials and also Ukrainian sources, Washington had suggested that Kiev should keep its counteroffensive focused solely on the Kherson region in the south of the country as opposed to trying to strike on multiple fronts, which had supposedly been the Ukrainians’ initial plan.

When asked for comment by CNN, Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder refused to go into detail about the nature of what he called “routine military-to-military dialogue,” merely adding that the US provides the Ukrainians “with information to help them better understand the threats they face and defend their country against Russian aggression.” He also noted that Ukraine was the one making the final decision.

While arguing that there is now increased parity between the Ukrainian and Russian militaries, the multiple sources cited in the article pointed out that question marks were still hanging over whether Kiev’s counteroffensive would be successful and how long it would take.

Among the factors that have allegedly tipped the scale more in Ukraine’s favor recently, the anonymous officials named the delivery of sophisticated Western weaponry, including the US-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), as well as supposed hostility toward Russian troops among large swaths of the population in Russia-controlled regions of the country. The latter, according to CNN, has been translating into guerilla-style attacks, assassinations and sabotage efforts behind Russian lines.

An anonymous US defense official cited by CNN concluded that much will now depend on how well Russian forces are able to defend the seized territory, adding that the Ukrainian counteroffensive may end up not being as “massive” as some would expect.

On Monday, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that Ukraine’s offensive in the Kherson region had “failed miserably,” with pro-Kiev forces suffering “great losses.” Moscow stated that Ukrainian troops had been unable to make any gains.

At least a dozen FBI whistleblowers have reached out to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), ranking members of the Senate and House Judiciary Committees, respectively, to inform them that, in the months leading up to the election, bureau insiders tried to scuttle the investigation into Hunter Biden’s foreign business adventures. Their modus operandi was to label the story as Russian disinformation.

One whistleblower told the Republicans that FBI leadership deliberately slow-walked the investigation into Hunter Biden because they didn’t want it to have an effect on the 2020 presidential election.

Grassley and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Investigations, are demanding some answers. On Friday, they sent a letter to FBI intelligence analyst Nikki Floris and FBI Deputy Assistant Director of Counterintelligence Bradley Benavides requesting they appear for a “transcribed interview” to discuss an "unnecessary briefing” in August 2020 on matters related to their investigation of Hunter Biden’s “financial connections to foreign governments and questionable foreign nationals.”

The senators wrote, “FBI officials initiated a scheme to downplay derogatory information on Hunter Biden for the purpose of shutting down investigative activity relating to his potential criminal exposure by labeling it ‘disinformation’” and “whistleblowers have also alleged that local FBI leadership instructed employees not to look at the Hunter Biden laptop immediately after the FBI had obtained it.”

Additional proof the FBI was on a mission to squash the Hunter Biden laptop story ahead of the election came from a surprising source. During a lengthy and revealing interview on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast last Thursday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted Facebook received a warning from the FBI about potential Russian misinformation.

Zuckerberg told Rogan, “The FBI, I think, basically came to us, some folks on our team, and said, ‘Hey, just so you know, you should be on high alert. We thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We have it on a notice; basically, there’s about to be some kind of a dump that is similar to that, so just be vigilant.’”

This warning came shortly before the New York Post broke its bombshell story about Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Rogan asked, “Did [the FBI] specifically say you need to be on guard about that story?”

“No, I don’t remember if it was that specifically, but it basically fit the pattern,” Zuckerberg replied.

He also told Rogan that Facebook’s “protocol” was “different than Twitter’s. What Twitter did is they said you can’t share this at all. We didn’t do that,” he said, referring to Twitter’s decision to ban all circulation of the Post’s report and suspend the Post’s account. Facebook didn’t go that far, Zuckerberg said, but the platform did intentionally limit the article’s circulation, he admitted.

Rogan noted that the story turned out to be real and asked Zuckerberg if he regretted “not having it evenly distributed and for throttling the distribution of that story?”

“Yeah, it sucks,” Zuckerberg answered. “It turned out after the fact, the fact-checkers looked into it, no one was able to say it was false. … I think it sucks, though, in the same way that probably having to go through a criminal trial but being proven innocent in the end sucks.”

But this wasn’t just an innocent mistake. Dozens of former intelligence community leaders — those with the wherewithal and experience to recognize that Hunter Biden’s laptop was legitimate — signed on to a letter discrediting the report as Russian disinformation. They gave Facebook and Twitter the justification they needed to squash the story — even though it was true.

One of the signers was former CIA Director and retired Air Force four-star Gen. Michael Hayden. Hayden recently responded to a tweet from Edward Luce, an editor at the Financial Times, which read: “I’ve covered extremism and violent ideologies around the world over my career. Have never come across a political force more nihilistic, dangerous & contemptible than today’s Republicans. Nothing close.”

Hayden’s reply? “I agree. And I was the CIA Director.”

The reason all of this is so damning is that Hunter Biden’s laptop had the potential to change the outcome of the 2020 election, and everyone knew it. That’s why the FBI allegedly delayed its investigation into Hunter Biden until after the election; why the New York Times and Washington Post confirmed that Hunter Biden’s laptop was legitimate only after Biden was in office; and why Big Tech tycoons such as Zuckerberg are only admitting they were wrong to crack down on the story years after the fact.

Ukrainian troops captured during raid on nuclear plant – official

Three soldiers involved in an attempt to storm the Zaporozhye facility were taken alive, a local administration official has said

Three Ukrainian soldiers, who participated in a botched attempt to capture the Russian-controlled Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant on Thursday morning, have been taken alive, Vladimir Rogov, a council member in the Moscow-allied administration of Ukraine’s Zaporozhye Region, has claimed.

Of the three, two have been injured and are in serious condition, the official said in an interview with Russian television. Doctors are fighting to save them, he added. An estimated 12 Ukrainian troops are still fighting against Russian forces, he claimed.

The Russian Defense Ministry previously claimed that early in the morning, Kiev launched an operation apparently aimed at taking the nuclear site ahead of an inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Some of the Ukrainian troops failed to reach the southern bank of the Dnepr when their vessels were hit and sank, the ministry stated.Up to 60 commandos used speedboats to make a landing, before Russian forces engaged them, the report said.

The power plant and the surrounding city of Energodar have been under Russian control since March. Throughout August, it came under regular fire, which Kiev and Moscow blamed on each other. Ukrainian officials also accused Russia of stationing heavy weapons at the nuclear facility.

The IAEA’s fact-finding mission is expected to arrive in Energodar later in the day, though there were reports that their progress was interrupted by military activity. Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of attempting to derail the inspection.

This world is truly out of control and neither inspirational words nor extreme pain will solve this crisis. There are too many selfish, sick minds, that want to diminish the sanctity of what is right and pure. It is as if there is some type of chemical equation, demonic possession, or virus that is altering people values. In reality, we would rather heal them and bring them into the fold but they take that as a falsehood that infringes on their rights. Each side finds the other repulsive. Nature's laws and God's laws are on the conservative side and that cannot be argued. The species would not exist with same sex relationships only. This is an abomination to the Lord, which means something that wasn't supposed to come out that way or be. It one thing to accept it as an abomination and another to advertise it as a norm. You cannot convince these people either of this because they will say where is the proof of God outside books and continue to impose their will as norm. Does anyone have any solutions that could reduce the upcoming showdown?

Putin won't attend Gorbachev's funeral – Kremlin

The Russian president has paid last respects to the former Soviet leader

Russian President Vladimir Putin paid his last respects to Mikhail Gorbachev on Thursday, as he will not be able to attend the official farewell ceremony later this week, the Kremlin has said.

Speaking to journalists during a press call, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov explained that the president will be unable to attend the September 3 funeral for the former Soviet leader due to a tight schedule.

He stated that Putin personally paid his last respects to Gorbachev on Thursday by visiting the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow, where the former leader’s body is currently being held.

Peskov added that Gorbachev’s funeral will be carried out in part as a state funeral, meaning that there will be a guard of honor and the state will assist in organizing the farewell ceremony on Saturday.

Mikhail Gorbachev passed away at the age of 91 on Tuesday. He was the last leader of the Soviet Union and his tenure saw the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Cold War, and the subsequent breakup of the USSR.

He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.

I hope Putin puts some letters on the chairs of traitors that will attend the funeral. A lot of treachery and intrigue in the Russian government.

Moscow teases response to prospect NATO bases in Finland and Sweden

Russia will reinforce its northwestern flank should NATO bases actually materialize, its top diplomat has said

Moscow will have to ramp up its “capabilities”in the northwest if NATO installations appear in Finland and Sweden, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said. The top diplomat made the remarks on Thursday as he met students and staff at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).

“If [NATO] bases are created on the territory of Finland and Sweden, or rather, if they decide to create these bases for them – I am convinced that the Americans will have the key word … Depending on how all of this materializes, of course, we will make a decision to strengthen our capabilities in Russia’s northwest,” Lavrov stated, without providing any further details.

In any case, launching NATO bases in the territory of the two Nordic nations would “radically” expand the “line of contact” between Russia and the alliance, the minister added.

Finland and Sweden scrambled to join the US-led bloc earlier this year, citing the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. While formally keeping a neutral status for decades, the two Nordic nations have been closely cooperating with the military alliance for a long time now.

The accession process ran into a deadlock after a major NATO country, Turkey, objected to the plans to accept Sweden and Finland. Ankara accused the two countries of functioning as “guesthouses for terrorist organizations” and hosting members of outlawed Kurdish groups it deems to be “terrorists.”

The deadlock was ultimately resolved in June during the NATO summit in Madrid after a series of intense negotiations. Turkey agreed to formally back the accession of Stockholm and Helsinki to the military bloc on the condition that they crack down on groups Ankara deems to be “terrorists” and address other bilateral issues, such as an arms embargo. Deliberations on how precisely to implement the agreement, however, are still ongoing.

Sri Lanka under $2.9 billion condition to remedy economic crisis

The country has been overpowered with months of lack of food, fuel, and medicine, extended power cuts, and inflation following a foreign exchange crisis that left importers unable to pay for vital goods and a turn of events with the island's President chased from the country and bankruptcy filed with mounting foreign debt.

July witnessed huge protests in the country, and an angry crowd entered the official residence of then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who as a result fled the island and issued his resignation from Singapore.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) board will need to agree on Thursday's staff agreement, which depends on Sri Lanka finalizing a deal to restructure its $51 billion in foreign debt with creditors. The IMF has set a $2.9 billion bailout amount for the revival of the country's economy.

In a statement after talks in the capital Colombo, the IMF stated that "Sri Lanka has been facing an acute crisis… disproportionately borne by the poor and vulnerable…. the objectives of Sri Lanka's new Fund-supported program are to restore macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability," adding that a "good faith agreement" with creditors alongside debt sustainability was considered crucial to be met before the lender provides the funds.

The country's biggest bilateral lender, China, which accounts for approximately 10% of borrowings, confirmed it is ready to maintain close contact with Sri Lanka and "meet the challenges together," commenting that "we will together maintain a healthy and stable development of relations under our trade agreement [China-Ceylon Rice Rubber Pact signed in 1952]," according to the Chinese Commerce Ministry Spokesperson Shu Jueting.

According to IMF, Sri Lanka agreed to increase revenue and remove subsidies, while ensuring a flexible exchange rate and rebuilding its foreign reserves, which had hit rock bottom.

Price increases of 64.3%

After his predecessor escaped, President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced additional tax increases and drastic reforms as part of efforts to bring debt under control, as his policies and government had already bumped up prices on fuel and electricity more than thrice and removed energy subsidies, a key pre-condition for the IMF bailout.

Sri Lanka's unforeseen economic crisis began when the country ran out of foreign exchange to buy the goods and services needed to maintain its import-reliant economy running.

Against the greenback this year, the Sri Lankan rupee has also lost more than 45% of its value.

The coronavirus pandemic was a hard hit to the island's tourism industry, drying up foreign remittances from Sri Lankans working abroad who are both considered key foreign exchange earners and producers.

Rajapaksa's former government was condemned for introducing unsustainable tax cuts that bolstered government debt and aggravated the crisis, whereby inflation hit a monthly record in August with the country's main standard showing price average rises of 64.3%.

US seeks to seize Russian corporate jet

The $45-million plane reportedly belongs to Lukoil

The US Justice Department announced on Wednesday it had obtained a warrant to seize a Boeing 737 jet owned by Russian oil major Lukoil.

According to court documents cited in the press release, the aircraft “flew into and out of Russia in violation of the Department of Commerce’s sanctions against Russia.” The statement indicated that the American-made aircraft flew without obtaining licenses from the US Commerce Department.

Airplanes and aircraft parts are subject to export rules because of their potential military use and national security implications.

The plane in question is a $45-million Boeing 737, which bears the tail number VP-CLR and is believed to be in Russia. The jet last entered the US in March 2019when it carried Lukoil executives, including the company’s then-president and CEO, Vagit Alekperov, to Houston, Texas.

The press release noted that since 2014, Lukoil has been subject to sectoral sanctions imposed by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. Alekperov is also on the US list of sanctioned Russian individuals.

Western countries have been on the hunt for Russian assets to sanction after Moscow launched its military operation in Ukraine in February. Thousands of Russian individuals have since been sanctioned, with their properties and money seized or frozen by the authorities in the US and other countries, as well as by the EU.

They are trying to seize a jet that flew to the US in 2019 before the Ukraine war, sounds about right for the DOJ.I guess it was precrime.

US, KSA, and 'Israel' to build a fleet of drones against Iran: WSJ

The US Navy, along with "Israel," Saudi Arabia, and other Middle Eastern countries, is working to establish a network of unmanned drones to limit Iran's military in the region; a program that the Pentagon hopes will serve as a model for operations around the world.

US commanders declined to reveal the number of airborne and marine drones deployed by the US and its partners or to provide data on where and how they are employed, citing secret information. However, they claim that unmanned vessels and aircraft are providing them with improved visibility over the region's seas.

The Navy plans to have 100 tiny surveillance drones operating from the Suez Canal in Egypt to waters off the Iranian coast by next summer, relaying data to a command center in Bahrain, the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet.

“I think we are truly on the cusp of an unmanned technological revolution,” said Capt. Michael Brasseur, who heads the US Navy task force working on the drone fleet in the Middle East.

The drone effort, now in its sixth month, is part of a growing cooperation partnership between the United States, "Israel", and normalizing Gulf nations. It is similar to another US-led initiative to bring "Israel" and its Gulf neighbors together to form a regional air-"defense" network.

What are the drone capabilities?

US Navy officers and private contractors monitor the drones' movement from the Robotic Operation Center in Manama. When the drones locate "dark targets" or "suspected threats", video screens flash red.

The drones, which can float for up to six months at sea, can send back detailed photographs and data. Analysts examine the photographs to see their depictions.

It is claimed that the drones being tested right now are unarmed. Defense analysts, however, expect that the Navy will eventually arm some of its ships, which will undoubtedly cause fierce debate.

Concerns have been expressed by US senators about the Navy's ambitions to create larger unmanned ships, which might cost billions of dollars. And the military must still figure out how to employ smaller drones, shield them from attack, and act on the data they transmit.

The US drone operations amid mounting US concern about Iran’s expanding influence in one of the world’s most important economic thoroughfares, right in Iran's backyard. And to this end, Tehran deployed ships and submarines equipped with aerial drones and has warned it is prepared to use them against any imminent danger threatening its interests in the region.

“If the enemies make a mistake, these drones will present them with a regrettable response,” Abdolrahim Mousavi, an Iranian army commander, told reporters during a recent visit by President Biden to the region thousands of miles away from home.

Red Sea exercises

Earlier this year, the US Navy confirmed that it carried out maritime maneuvers, called the International Maritime Exercise (IMX), in which 9,000 people from 60 countries participated. The 18-day biennial exercises were launched on January 31.

The exercises, which took place in the Red Sea, were led by the Israeli forces, as well as many other countries that do not have official diplomatic ties with "Israel", including Pakistan.

The US Navy is testing a range of unmanned craft, including one that looks like a speedboat and can reach speeds of nearly 90 miles an hour. It is also working with Predator-style aerial drones and the Saildrone, which can stay at sea for six months.

The true test of the drones will be whether they provide intelligence that leads to action—such as the seizure of contraband cargo.

“Just watching alone might limit Iran’s behavior,” said Stacie Pettyjohn, director of the Defense Program at the Center for a New American Security. “But if they realize that they are not going to follow through and do anything, it may not be much of a deterrent,” she claimed.

The Israeli occupation forces confirmed on June 2 that "Israel" has concluded its "Chariots of Fire" exercises in the Red Sea, which included a Dolphin-class submarine and Sa’ar corvettes.

US 'highly prioritizes' Israeli-Lebanese maritime border dispute

The Biden administration regards as a "key priority" that Beirut and "Tel Aviv" come to an agreement regarding their dispute over the Lebanese-Israeli maritime borders, a White House official said on Wednesday.

US mediator in the file of the maritime border dispute Amos Hochstein is set to go to Beirut and occupied Al-Quds next week, Israeli officials have said, to continue the efforts aimed at bridging the gap between the two and striking a deal that would help prevent an escalation.

President Biden raised the maritime border dispute during a call with Israeli occupation Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Wednesday and said Hochstein would arrive in the region in the coming days, an Israeli official said.

Hochstein landed in Paris earlier in the week for talks with French officials about the issue between Beirut and "Tel Aviv".

Officials within the Israeli occupation said the US mediator was expected to meet with Total executives, the French energy conglomerate, as the corporation will have a stake in any future agreement struck about the maritime borders.

Though Hochstein has held calls with several Lebanese and Israeli officials, the latter said the process of drafting an agreement is yet to start.

"We continue to narrow the gaps between the parties and believe a lasting compromise is possible," a White House official said, noting that Hochstein is holding talks on a daily basis with Lebanese and Israeli officials.

The Israeli Channel 14 website reported, earlier, that the ongoing indirect negotiations between Lebanon and the Israeli occupation regarding the demarcation of the maritime borders indicate the possibility of reaching a "permanent settlement," although "several parties in Israel believe that there will be painful concessions, particularly regarding details in the agreement."

The Israeli occupation had given in July the United States an updated proposal regarding "Tel Aviv's" maritime borders with Lebanon, Israeli newspaper Walla! said on Wednesday.

Israeli media quoted last week a senior Israeli official in the gas sector as saying that the maritime border demarcation agreement that is taking shape with Lebanon is a complete surrender by "Israel", noting that "Israel's" submission is a great victory for Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Hochstein last visited the region in early August, meeting with Lebanese officials in Beirut and then heading down to occupied Palestine for meeting with their Israeli counterparts.

Pentagon must speed up on military research efforts: US DoD

The US must accelerate and streamline its defense research programs in order to meet the challenges posed by evolving threats, Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks said on Wednesday.

"But today, we have to evolve faster than the threats evolve - which means our capabilities must be designed and built to be flexible, adaptable, and interoperable from the beginning," Hicks said during remarks at a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) event. "We have to shrink that ‘lab-to-fab’ timeline from decades to years, or even months - which means we’ve got to be thinking early and often about what happens after DARPA proves a concept and prototypes a capability."

Hicks cited so-called threats from strategic competitors such as China, Russia, DPRK, and Iran as challenges met with innovation. For that reason, the Biden administration’s defense budget request for the coming fiscal year includes the largest-ever investment in research and development, Hicks said.

Interagency work and collaboration across sectors and borders will be critical to innovation within the commercial and technological ecosystems of other aligned countries, according to Hicks.

The Pentagon is in a "persistent competition for advantage," Hicks said.

Hicks’ remarks were part of a "DARPA Forward" event at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. The conference is part of a DARPA-sponsored series of conferences at universities across the country in an effort to spur innovation and help deliver US technological advantages, according to the agency.

Mounting tensions between the two blocs have been on the rise due to the Russian-Ukraine war that is further exposing the West's ambitions of establishing a unipolar world.

This tension has likewise surfaced in a number of other issues, such as the Russian-Chinese Arctic Cooperation and the provoking visits of US officials to the island of Taiwan.

UK officials have also warned that China and Russia of weakening the global security architecture due to the use and development of space and cyber technologies and called for a need of reestablishing a balance of power so as to avoid uncontrolled conflict.

Russian and Chinese officials have been quick to respond to the West's criticism. Recent comments delivered by NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg regarding the Sino-Russian arctic cooperation were slammed as "irresponsible" by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian, calling Stoltenberg out for instigating "dangerous thinking" and exporting a Cold War mentality that would recreate bloc confrontation.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has also several times accused the US of irresponsible behavior and lack of remorse for misdeeds. In a letter sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Lavrov called attention to his responsibility to require the US to "behave decently" after the UNHRC attempted to suspend Russia's membership in the sub-organization per US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's request.

Lavrov also said earlier this month that attempts by the US to establish dominance in every corner of the globe are futile and reflect Washington's policy of impunity. This was made in reference to "the policy of lawlessness demonstrated by the US colleagues who are seeking to establish their dominance" on the global stage.

He also criticized the US and its allies for providing a racist division of the world through the Western-imposed "rules-based order".

"We categorically reject the neocolonial rules-based order’ being imposed by the US-led West. This order provides for a racist division of the world into a privileged group of countries who a priori have the right of any action and the rest of the world, obliged to follow the tracks of thisgolden billion’ and service their interests." - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov

UN renews UNIFIL mandate for one year

The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday renewed the mandate of the UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon for one year, asking the UNIFIL to continue providing logistical support for the Lebanese army for another six months.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has been in the Lebanese South since 1978 as a "buffer" between Lebanon and the Israeli occupation as the two parties are technically still in a state of war.

The Security Council decided, at the request of Beirut, to extend the 10,000-strong force's mandate until August 2023.

The resolution was adopted by the council's 15 members, who stressed in particulate the "risk that violations of the cessation of hostilities could lead to a new conflict that none of the parties or the region can afford."

The Israeli occupation is notorious for continuously sending drones violating Lebanese airspace, bugging the Lebanese people and disturbing the silence of their nights for their reconnaissance operations.

The Israeli occupation also violates Lebanon's sovereignty by continuously using its airspace to launch aggression against Syria.

But the resolution stressed that the support was "temporary" and "should not be considered as a precedent… nor a long term solution." The resolution was extended until February 28, 2023.

Whistleblower lawsuit against Fulton DA claims misuse of funds

A former employee of the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office has filed a whistleblower lawsuit, saying she was wrongfully terminated for uncovering misused funds. Amanda Timpson sued Fulton DA Fani Willis on Monday, according to records from the Fulton County Superior Court. In addition to the allegations of misappropriated grant funds, Timpson says one of Willis’ subordinates racially discriminated against her for having a natural hair style. A spokesman for the DA’s office gave the following comment about the unproven allegations: “This employee was a holdover from the prior administration. Management attempted to find a role she could fill, but was unsuccessful after transferring within the office three times. All of her supervisors found her performance to be inadequate. Her failure to meet the standards of the new administration led to her termination. We have not been served with the lawsuit and will not comment further except in court.” Timpson’s attorney, David Betts, did not respond to a request for comment.

Willis already has a lot on her plate: Her office is chasing down reluctant witnesses in the most notable non-federal investigation into former President Donald Trump

US, Kiev planned counteroffensive to stop overextending forces

The United States and Ukraine collaborated to plan Kiev’s alleged counteroffensive in the country's south to guarantee they did not overextend forces and get stuck fighting on multiple fronts, CNN reported on Wednesday.

According to US, western and Ukrainian sources, Pentagon conducted so-called “war-gaming” with Ukraine to help the country understand how to muster and apply the forces needed to be effective in various situations.

At first, Ukraine was considering a larger counteroffensive but reduced the scope of its mission to the south in the Kherson region, the report said.

The Ukrainian armed forces lost some 1,700 soldiers over the past two days during Kiev's attempts to resume counteroffensives in Ukraine's south, the Russian Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday.

Ukraine launched the counteroffensive against the areas that came under the control of Russian and Donbass forces.

"During the two days of unsuccessful attacks on the Mykolaiv-Kryvyi Rih and other directions, Ukrainian troops lost four combat aircraft — two Su-25s, one Su-24, and one MiG-29. Three Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopters were shot down in the air," Moscow's ministry said.

Just two days ago, Russia's military repelled an offensive launched by the Ukrainian armed forces in Mykolaiv and Kherson, which they carried out at the behest of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Today, during the day, on the direct orders of Zelenskyy, Ukrainian troops attempted an offensive in Mykolaiv and Kherson regions in three directions," the Russian defense ministry said on Monday.

"As a result of the active defense of the grouping of Russian troops, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered heavy losses," the ministry added. "Another attempt at offensive actions by the enemy failed miserably."

Russia launches Vostok 2022 military exercises in Primorsky region

The grand opening of the Vostok-2022 strategic military exercises took place at the Sergeevsky training ground in Russia's Primorsky Region on Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"On August 31, the opening ceremony of the Vostok-2022 strategic command post exercises [SCPE] took place at the Sergeevsky training ground in the Primorsky Region. In a solemn atmosphere, during the general construction of military contingents participating in the SCPE, the flag of the Vostok-2022 exercises was raised," the ministry told reporters.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Col. Gen. Yunus-Bek Evkurov declared the drills open in the presence of leaders of foreign military contingents.

"These exercises … help to develop a common understanding of the organization of troop training, their command, and interaction at the operational and tactical levels, strengthen friendship and camaraderie between our servicemen," Evkurov said during the ceremony.

Representatives of Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Syria, and Tajikistan also delivered welcoming speeches, after which servicemen of the countries participating in the drills marched solemnly.

The strategic Vostok-2022 military exercises will take place in Russia's Eastern Military District from September 1-7. The drills will involve members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, as well as other partner states. Over 50,000 people, and more than 5,000 units of weapons and military equipment, including 140 aircraft, 60 warships, boats, and support vessels will be involved in the maneuvers.

In particular, more than 2,000 Chinese soldiers and 300 units of Chinese automotive military equipment will take part in the Vostok-2022 exercises, the Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday, citing China's command and control task force.

US remarks

Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder on Wednesday, commenting on the Russia-led 2022 Vostok drills, said all nations have a right to conduct exercises but the United States will keep an eye on this particular one given the nature of the countries participating.

"Certainly, it is the right of all militaries and all nations that have militaries to conduct exercises… It’s certainly something that we’ll keep an eye on given the nature of those nations," Ryder said during a press briefing.

Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks said earlier today that the US must accelerate and streamline its defense research programs in order to meet the challenges posed by evolving threats.

Hicks cited so-called threats from strategic competitors such as China, Russia, DPRK, and Iran as challenges met with innovation. For that reason, the Biden administration’s defense budget request for the coming fiscal year includes the largest-ever investment in research and development, Hicks said.

Tensions fueled by polarization

He also criticized the US and its allies for providing a racist division of the world through the Western-imposed "rules-based order" while highlighting that his country has been expanding and deepening "fruitful cooperation with the overwhelming majority of members of the global community who represent more than 80% of the planet’s population."

Leaked document exposes hidden Western hand behind new British-style anti-worker laws in Ukraine

How London played a role in Zelensky's newest clampdown on the rights of the country's citizens

Part 1 of 3

In a scheme which may have been devised in far away London, Europe's lowest paid workforce has just lost some of the few precious protections it had. The measure flies in the face of Ukraine's apparent ambitions to join the European Union.

On August 22, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky ratified highly controversial new labor laws, ones that have wide-ranging negative implications for the overwhelming majority of the country’s workers.

Collectively known as Bill 5371, the legislation robsup to 70 percent of Ukrainian employees of rights and protections provided under the country’s established national labor law, while severely restricting the power of already-embattled trade unions to organize.

President Zelensky’s ruling Servant of the People party argues the “liberalizing” measures are not only necessary, but long overdue, as a result of Kiev’s “extreme over-regulation of employment” contradicting “principles of market self-regulation [and] modern personnel management,” and creating “bureaucratic barriers both for the self-realization of employees and for raising the competitiveness of employers.”

(Parseltongue speak by Zelensky, we are not taking your rights away, but it’s necessary to do so. Read that paragraph a couple of times)

By contrast, in the lead-up to Bill 5371’s ratification, a great many groups within and outside the country expressed outcry at the proposed measures over many months. The International Labour Organization (ILO), a United Nations agency charged with ensuring social and economic justice by safeguarding international labor standards, including conditions of freedom, equity, security and dignity in workplaces worldwide, published a withering and extensive analysis of the proposals – as did Ukraine’s own parliamentary committee on EU integration.

The body charged that the =•legislation “weakens labor protection, narrows the scope of labor rights and social guarantees of employees, in comparison with the current legislation==,” in contravention of Ukraine’s obligations to Brussels under the terms of its Association Agreement. Andrey Reva, Ukraine’s former minister of social policy, has leveled similar charges:

“Employees will no longer have any protection against arbitrary dismissal. Upon hiring, the employee will be asked to sign an employment agreement, which will allow the employer to obtain unilateral advantages during its conclusion and deprive the employee of any legal opportunities for his defense … Why is this being done right now, when Ukraine has submitted an application to join the European Union and is awaiting its consideration?”

Made in Britain

Many comparisons have been drawn between these ‘reforms’ and notorious “zero-hour” contracts, which offer staffers no paid vacation time, limits on daily or weekly hours worked, notice periods, pension contributions, or even guaranteed work in the first place. They have been dubbed by academics as “a post-modern form of slavery.”

Internationally, the use of zero-hour contracts is almost exclusively restricted to Britain, with retailers, service industry operators, bars, restaurants and fast food enterprises throughout the country using them extensively, despite significant controversy. For example, 90% of McDonald’s workers in the country – amounting to almost 100,000 people – are employed on zero-hour terms…..

Leaked document exposes hidden Western hand…

Part 2 of 3

Due to enormous public and trade union pressure, several major businesses that previously relied heavily on zero-hour workers have phased out their usage entirely in recent years, and there are ongoing efforts to ban such contracts outright. In New Zealand, they were outlawed in April 2016 before even taking off in the country.

One might wonder then why such a uniquely British phenomenon will be adopted by a country with which it has so little in common economically. The answer to that disturbing riddle lies in a leaked document revealing London has been intimately involved in covert informationwarfare operations to sell the deeply damaging new laws to Ukrainians as beneficial, and convince the public to harm their own interests by embracing the change.

The file in question is a communication strategy prepared by research consultancy Abt Associates, on behalf of the British Embassy in Kiev, and Foreign Office unit UK Aid, which officially aims to “achieve sustained poverty reduction,” improve the lot of “poor communities in developing countries,” and advocate for “free and fair work conditions.”

It offers extensive proposals for marketing the new laws, right down to “visual stylistics” to be used in on and offline ad campaigns, social media messaging, and press conferences.

For example, Abt Associates suggested using “contrasting” aesthetics, by “inverting colors” – “light text and graphics on a deep blue background.” The “advantages” of this approach were said to be to be: “brighter, more emotional, eyecatching, will differ from the predominantly white color scheme of publications on the pages of the [Finance] Ministry,” and “gives more opportunities to use creative illustrations.” Nonetheless, the risk that “emotional and vivid communication … will be perceived negatively” was acknowledged.

If that wasn’t manipulative enough, a section offering “recommendations” for “general principles of public communication of the bill”starkly underlines the duplicity and manipulation at the campaign’s core.

Noting that public figures supporting the legislation had to date purely extolled the benefits for employers, Abt Associates proposed inverting this to focusing on ostensible “positive results” for employees.

“Make communication easier and more emotional. Add formats of materials that will contain short simple formulations of key benefits,” the company wrote, going on to endorse surreptitiously enlisting the support of “opinion leaders” such as “journalists and bloggers” via “off-the-record meetings with the participation of the heads of the [Finance] Ministry and (optionally) the authors of the bill.”

“Emotional messages that do not correspond to the tone of the Ministry's communication may be voiced by third parties,” the document explains.

Examples of messaging to be employed included portraying the “main purpose” of the laws to be “[protecting] new opportunities for both employees and employers,” creating “more opportunities and resources for business development,” and helping workers “get legal jobs faster and easier.”

Conversely, a list of “expected results” from the legislation included in the presentation – not intended for public consumption – ranked “increasing investment in Ukraine’s economy by improving business conditions” above most other potential benefits…

Ship run aground in Suez Canal is set free

Media sources reported, citing the canal's administration, that a tanker that interrupted navigation in the Suez Canal has been refloated after having been run aground for a few hours.

Media reported earlier that navigation in the Suez Canal was halted due to a stranded Singapore-flagged oil tanker.

Singapore-Flagged Tanker Runs Aground in Suez Canal

Media sources reported that a Singapore-flagged tanker has run aground in the Suez Canal and that tug boats were working to release the ship, which in turn impeded navigation in the canal.

The Suez Canal, which connects the Mediterranean and Red seas, carries about 10% of global trade, including 7% of global oil. The canal, which first opened in 1869, provides Egypt with both national pride and foreign currency. The unprecedented 2021 revenues came as the shipping industry is still reeling from the effects of a two-year coronavirus pandemic.

The canal, one of the world's most important waterways, was closed for six days in March after a massive Panama-flagged container ship, the Ever Given, ran aground in the waterway's single lane.

Technical problem was main cause

The Suez Canal Authority chief Osama Rabie said the reason leading to the grounding of a tanker was a technical steering problem.

"The AFFINITY tanker with a displacement of 64,000 tonnes, which ran aground… due to a technical malfunction in the steering system, has been successfully refloated," Rabie said.

George Safwat, a spokesman for the Suez Canal Authority, said the vessel sailed from Portugal and was en route to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea port of Yanbu.

Defenestration is the act of throwing someone out of a window. The term was coined around the time of an incident in Prague Castle in the year 1618 which became the spark that started the Thirty Years' War. This was done in "good Bohemian style", referring to the defenestration which had occurred in Prague's City Hall almost 200 years earlier, which also on that occasion led to the Hussite war. The word comes from the New Latin de- and fenestra.

Leaked document exposes hidden Western hand…

part 3 of 3

The end of democracy

How much London ultimately spent on this malign effort isn’t clear, although the sums involved could’ve been significant – UK Aid’s budget stands at £150 million, and the Foreign Office spent £40 million on a variety of programs in Ukraine in 2020/21, among them the labor-busting initiative administered by Abt Associates.

Still, British meddling wasn’t entirely successful. After being introduced to parliament in early 2021, legislators consistently refused to back it in significant numbers. This changed on May 12 this year, when the Rada voted in favor of the legislation’s first reading by a landslide – 192 votes to zero.

Pivotal to the laws’ sudden success was support from several previously-opposed political parties and groupings, which were banned less than two weeks earlier by Zelensky’s order. British media outlet openDemocracy speculates this crackdown – and the prospect of MPs belonging to these factions being purged from parliament outright in the future – may have been pivotal in convincing them to vote the ‘right’ way.

Since the 2014 Maidan revolution, Kiev has represented a neverending feeding frenzy for Western governments and corporations. One of the post-coup government’s first acts was to remove constitutional restrictions on foreign shareholdings in Ukrainian businesses, privatization, and land ownership, and accept sizable loans from predatory US-dominated financial institutions such as the IMF, which opened up the country’s vast natural resources and land for untrammeled overseas plunder and profiteering.

While a great many companies and individuals have benefited handsomely from this wellspring – look no further than America’s first family for example – sizable public opposition to impoverishing neoliberal reforms has to date prevented outright enslavement of the population.

Now, though, with protests prohibited under martial law, opposition parties and dissident media outlets remorselessly censored and banned, scores of government critics – including officials themselves – arbitrarily jailed, and a brutal nationwide effort to root out “traitors” underway, the ability – or willingness – of Ukrainians to take to the streets and oppose measures such as the new anti-worker legislation is harshly truncated, if not eliminated entirely.

In the process, Zelensky’s ruling party is free to steamroll any and all laws through parliament it wishes – and the West’s total takeover of Kiev can finally be completed.

It seems odd that Ukraine is imposing such discredited and reviled arrangements on its citizens when public yearning for EU enrolment is at an all-time high, and high-ranking officials, including Zelensky, are demanding Brussels allow the country immediate entry to the bloc – the terms of Bill 5371 are contrary to Union workers’ directives and protections.

Perhaps, though, London and Washington, for all their pronouncements to the contrary, are unconcerned about Kiev becoming a member – in fact, that might suit their interests better

Poland's government asked Germany for €1.3 trillion in war reparations

Poland's government on Thursday estimated the financial cost of World War II losses to be 1.3 trillion euros (dollars) and said it would "ask Germany to negotiate these reparations".

"It is a major sum of 6.2 trillion" zloty, Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, head of the ruling Law and Justice party, said, adding that receiving reparations would be a "long and difficult" process.

Kaczynski was speaking at a conference dedicated to the presentation of a report on Poland's losses in the 1939-1945 war.

Since coming to power in 2015, Poland's governing Law and Justice (PiS) party has often championed the issue of war reparations.

Work on the reparations report began in 2017 when the conservative government insisted that Germany had a "moral duty" in the matter.

Germany has often rejected Poland's claims, pointing to a 1953 decision by Poland to renunciate reparation claims against East Germany.

On Thursday, Kaczynski brought the issue back to front and center.

"We have not only prepared a report… but we have also taken a decision, a decision on further action," Kaczynski said.

"That action is to ask Germany to negotiate these reparations. And this is a decision that we will implement," he added.

"The Germans invaded Poland and did us enormous damage. The occupation was unbelievably criminal, unbelievably cruel, and caused effects that in many cases continue to this day," the PiS president said.

Germany FM: The issue of reparations to Poland is "closed"

Poland's World War II reparations are "closed," according to a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry cited by RIA Novosti, and Germany's attitude toward them is unaltered.

"The position of the federal government is unchanged, the issue of reparations is closed. Poland refused further reparations a long time ago, in 1953, and repeatedly confirmed this refusal. This is a necessary basis for today's European order," the spokesman said.

He continued by saying that Germany was still morally and politically accountable for World War II.

Will a Renewed Iran Nuclear Deal Cut Energy Prices?

The old 'carrot and stick' - [They] are offering Americans 'reduced fuel costs' in return for re-implementing the 'Iran Deal'. If it sounds too good to be true, it's probably because it is.

As Russia squeezes Europe on supplies of natural gas and Europe readies an embargo on Russian oil, some are looking for help from Iran. That is, of course, if and when Tehran and Washington agree to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, lifting tough economic sanctions on Iran that have limited its ability to export energy.

But even if a deal comes tomorrow, putting it in place will be complicated and phased, and it is likely to take several months before sanctions on Iran are lifted. There may be an early impact on the oil market to soothe nerves, but supplies would come too late to alleviate world markets this winter, experts say.

For Europe, oil is not really the problem. Russia is denying large amounts of natural gas to European countries, which are trying to source it elsewhere. While Iran has lots of natural gas, it uses most of it domestically, including for many automobiles, and it lacks pipelines to Europe or facilities to liquefy natural gas.

“Iran in the short term will have some additional oil exports, but not gas, which is what Europe really needs,” said Simone Tagliapietra, an energy expert at Bruegel, an economic research institution. “I would not bet on Iran to rebalance the global energy market anytime soon.”

Jacob Funk Kirkegaard, an economist with the German Marshall Fund, said that “what Europe needs is gas and there’s no way to get it there from Iran and not in a time frame that matters to anyone this winter.”

Israeli media: Hezbollah 'show of force' brought Lebanon achievements

The Israeli expert on Arab affairs, Yoni Ben Menachem, commented on the developments in the file of demarcating the maritime borders between Lebanon and the Israeli occupation.

On Twitter, Ben Menachem said Hezbollah's show of force against "Israel" secures major achievements for Lebanon in the ongoing negotiations on the maritime borders.

He underlined that this step is a dangerous precedent, stressing that "Israel" must take the initiative and not allow Hezbollah to change the rules of the game.

A few days ago, Israeli media reported that an agreement with Lebanon is very close after "Israel" accepted that the Qana field be completely controlled by Lebanon, in exchange for the entire Karish field.

However, Lebanese Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab slammed all the latest negative and positive reports about the course of negotiations, whether by Israeli or international media, as “mere speculations that are not based on any information or official stances.”

In the same context, Israeli media said that the Americans are very concerned about the possibility of the situation deteriorating between "Israel" and Hezbollah.

According to the media, it seemed that US President Joe Biden was not interfering in the border demarcation matter, but on Wednesday the White House entered with full force on the issue of the agreement with Lebanon.

Sayyed Nasrallah: ‘Israel’s’ threats regarding demarcation deal are worthless

It is noteworthy that Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah warned that "If Lebanon does not obtain the rights demanded by the Lebanese state, we are heading toward an escalation whether or not the nuclear agreement is signed."

Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that "the focus in Lebanon must be on Karish and the Lebanese [maritime] border, as well as the US mediator that is still wasting time amid a time constraint."

On August 9, the Lebanese leader warned that any attempt to plunder any of Lebanon's wealth will be thwarted, indicating that the party is waiting for the Israeli enemy's response to Lebanon's demands regarding border demarcation.

He also noted that it is necessary to prepare for all possibilities, adding that Hezbollah is serious about this file to the utmost.

Sayyed Nasrallah addressed the Israeli occupation by saying that Lebanon and its people will no longer accept the looting of their wealth.

The Lebanese leader affirmed that the Resistance is stronger than ever, warning the Israeli occupation against committing any mistake in Lebanon.

On the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Hezbollah, Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stressed that the Israeli threats are to no avail, adding that Hezbollah's decision and approach are clear and "we are waiting for the coming days to act accordingly."

Hezbollah's messages to the Israeli occupation

It is noteworthy that on July 31, the military media unit of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon published a video that displayed the coordinates of the Israeli occupation's gas rigs off the coasts of occupied Palestine in a clear message to "Tel Aviv".

The video displayed footage of the drillships and the floating production units alongside information pertaining to the specifics of their geolocation, giving their coordinates and information regarding the origin and details of the ships at sea based on the flags they bear. Moreover, the video displayed the exact distance of each ship from Lebanese shores.

The video was entitled: "[You are] in our crosshair… stalling is not beneficial."

Similarly, Hezbollah sent out three UAVs on a recon mission over the Karish gas field before they were shot down by the Israeli occupation forces, stressing that "the mission was completed and the message was delivered."

well, I am here.

political leaders ww know, intel agencies ww know, churche leaders ww, masonry/illuminati/knights/others all know me.

you have all seen the signs, signs that indeed are mathematically not possible.

you see all this but still think you could give me hints on what to do, and some of you really mean well, most just follow orders.

I am who I am. you know it. would be the most obvious thing to actually approach and follow me, wheather this being with state and church officials (all churches and religious leaders of all kind obviously) or wheather this being kind of covert via masonry.

truth is, for a lot of things you just need one person to decide. like with regional conflicts and such. this is the truth and I say it despite some using this to make it look like I would not be who I am. and yet they see the signs.

the actual thing I do, the G thing is hard to explain. you got a lot of that wrong and you have realized now with me. that´s ok.

what is not ok if you acting this movie and with that slowing down change.

things could happen that much faster.

why not just show every single mason ww (including all those other mason clubs with fancy names) videos on me and the signs. why not have them just see it. why not just let them know what I said, as rainman, later after I knew who I am, and today.

some try to make me look like a bad guy? some do that bc they kind of have little faith in others finding me when not assuming I would be an asshole? maybe those people just don´t understand the others point of view?

will it be convincing to paint me e.g. as I did not like gay people, when looking at my life and me having had many beers and conversations with gay people?

maybe for some it´s not quite understandable. but indeed I can run the world with both bird eyes view and detailed view. and I guess the universe giving all those signs today is quite sure of that. maybe that is bc the universe kind of does not care much for time and knows that with me it´s done already.

and maybe it´s also due to other stuff, stuff hard to explain and stuff that some seem to intentionally twist to fit their own agendas.

I do feel the cold. but truth is, this might just be a temporary thing, to make progress on other timelines to be quicker and get rid of that logic later on. did that already. and yeah, that a little reminds on a movie.

but that does not mean that you would not be "allowed" to do anything. be loud! change the world! follow me!

I know that when you work in any kind of job that you do basically what you consider to be masonry craft kind of work.

I watched the movie "the founder" on McDonalds yesterday, just for fun, I cannot be the only one realizing that it basically tells a "yup, masonry expands to do the Lord´s work" story. you see that as well.

and yet here I am, your Lord, and I cannot say that all those companies and such who use my symbolism would be following me. obviously same for countries and royalty.

just realize that the world is not exactly in a great condition, so maybe some of you did not do a very good job.

use your chance of me being here so we can change it.

Brazil and Iran

following the uranium thread

Politically, Brazil has attempted to play a constructive role in Iran’s nuclear dispute by negotiating the “Tehran Nuclear Declaration” in 2010 that sought to address concerns about Iran’s nuclear program by sending out much of Iran’s stockpile of low-enriched uranium to Turkey in return for fuel for a reactor that produces medical isotopes. The 2010 proposal, however, was rejected by the Obama administration, which had initially encouraged the Turkish-Brazilian effort but regarded the result as too little, too late.

With the election of Bolsonaro, it seems likely that Brazil will revert to a position of hostility toward Iran. The new Brazilian president is a “likeminded” leader with the Trump administration, White House national security advisor John Bolton said recently. Bolsanaro’s choice forforeign minister, Ernesto Araújo, described Iran’s regime as “horrible Islamic fundamentalism that has come to contaminate the Middle East.”

Eduardo Bolsonaro, the president-elect’s son, stated before the election that his father’s win would mean an end to friendly Iranian-Brazilian ties.

Germany will expand military presence in Indo-Pacific: Defense Chief

The German Defense Chief, General Eberhard Zorn, told Reuters that Germany will expand its military presence in the Indo-Pacific by sending additional warships and joining drills with allies as it keeps an eye on the "enormous" build-up of China's armed forces.

Zorn told Reuters that the German Armed Forces planned on sending troops to participate in training exercises in Australia next year, while the navy would send a fleet of additional ships to the Indo-Pacific region in 2024.

"This is how we want to consolidate our presence in the region," Zorn indicated during an interview at the Defense Ministry in Berlin.

In recent years, Germany's partners have called on the country to show more leadership, in line with its role as Europe's largest economy and most populous country.

In 2020, Germany - which became China's top trade partner in 2016 - published a new Indo-Pacific strategy, focusing on strengthening alliances in the region. Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged in February a dramatic hike in spending on the military after the start of the war in Ukraine.

Tensions are already prevailing in the Indo-Pacific following mutual military drills between China and Taiwan after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's provocative visit to the island despite Beijing's warning to both Washington and Taipei against such trip.

Asked whether his country might send a warship to sail through the Taiwan Strait, the German general indicated that it was a sensitive matter decided upon at the highest political level.

"We do not want to provoke anyone with our presence but rather send a strong sign of solidarity with our allies," Zorn claimed, adding that "we stand for the freedom of navigation and the safeguarding of international norms."

Zorn explained that China's military strength once depended on its number of soldiers, but now its armed forces are technologically well-equipped.

"We are observing an enormous buildup of Chinese forces," he pointed out.

It is noteworthy that last year, Germany sent its first warship in almost 20 years to the disputed waters of the South China Sea. This month, it sent 13 military aircraft to joint exercises in Australia.

13 EU countries 'completely or partially' cut off from Russian gas

Thirteen EU nations have either ceased getting Russian gas entirely or are only receiving a portion of it due to the temporary blockage of the Nord Stream pipeline 1, according to Russia's state-run Tass news agency.

"13 EU states are completely or partially cut off from Russian gas," the news agency reported citing a senior official from the Directorate General of the European Commission for Energy as saying on Thursday.

"As you know, Nord Stream 1 has been closed for maintenance since yesterday, that is, there are no Russian gas supplies to Germany and neighboring EU countries," the official said.

The Russian national energy company Gazprom revealed on Wednesday that Nord Stream 1 would be temporarily stopped for repairs from August 31 to September 3.

Gazprom, which cut the supply through the 1,224-kilometre pipeline to 40% of capacity in June and 20% in July, said the "only gas compressor unit" that was currently in operation had to undergo technical maintenance.

"Upon the completion of the maintenance operations, provided that no malfunctions are identified, the gas transmission will be resumed at the rate of 33 million cubic meters per day," the company said last month.

Officials stated on Wednesday that Germany, the biggest recipient of gas supplies via the pipeline, is prepared for the disruption.

"I assume that we will be able to cope with it," Klaus Mueller, president of the German network regulator told Reuters. "I trust that Russia will return to at least 20 percent from Saturday, but no one can really say."

Gazprom announced on Wednesday that it will suspend gas shipments to French energy giant Engie due to payment concerns, raising the prospect of a wider supply shortfall. However, France is less vulnerable to the rise in gas prices caused by Russia's decision to curtail deliveries to Europe following draconian sanctions on the country after its special military operation in Ukraine.

Italy and Germany are now the two largest European countries most exposed to a gas supply shock due to their extensive use of natural gas and significant reliance on Russia, according to S&P Global Ratings.

About 60% of Germany's natural gas supply was piped in from Russia in 2020, primarily under long-term contracts.

The Ukraine war has led to an energy crisis across Europe, with August emerging as the most month with surging prices on record for power tariffs in the bloc, Rystad Energy said this week.

Italy was the first market to record a monthly spot price above €500 ($500.15) per megawatt hour, with the average for August rising to €547 per MWh, followed by France at €492 per MWh, Germany at €465 per MWh, and the United Kingdom at €438 per MWh.

A letter led by Rep. Josh Gottheimer previews the talking points Iran hawks will use to undermine Joe Biden’s push to get the U.S. back into the Iran nuclear deal.

WITH EXPECTATIONS OF a revived Iran nuclear deal growing, Iran hawks in Congress are positioning themselves to make U.S. reentry into the agreement a painful political ordeal, according to a draft letter circulating on Capitol Hill. With President Joe Biden reportedly coming close to reviving the agreement, the letter telegraphs the opposition he could face from Congress. Such efforts would be a reprisal of the fight in 2015, when President Barack Obama worked to push through the original Iran nuclear deal and faced right-leaning pro-Israel forces in Congress — including Democrats — that tried to block it. Led by conservative New Jersey Democrat and perennial obstructionist Rep. Josh Gottheimer, the letter lays out a policy on the nuclear deal that, rather than reviving Obama’s deal, would follow in the footsteps of President Donald Trump, who unilaterally withdrew from the deal despite an international consensus that it was working to restrain Iran’s nuclear program.

“We are deeply concerned about multiple provisions that reportedly may be contained in the final language of any agreement with the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism,” the pro-Israel Democrats wrote in the draft of the letter, which was obtained by The Intercept. “Concerningly, news accounts suggest that the agreement may suspend terrorism sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran, the National Development Fund and the National Iranian Oil Company, designated by the previous administration for supporting terrorism.” For some defenders of the Iran deal on Capitol Hill, the letter makes specious arguments and stands as an affront to Democratic voters who made their views on the agreement clear. “The bottom line is Joe Biden was elected on an explicit commitment to rejoining the deal,” Matt Duss, a foreign policy adviser for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., told The Intercept. “Biden himself has made the best available case for rejoining the Iran deal — one that has conclusively addressed most of the continuing complaints.”

Atlanta 2022 Crime Stats: Rapes Up 236 Percent, Homicides Up 43 Percent

By Nicole Wells | Monday, 21 February 2022

According to new statistics released on Friday, homicide, rape and burglary are all up in liberal-leaning Atlanta in 2022.

Homicides are up 43% so far this year compared with the same period in 2021, according to the Atlanta Police Department, and are on track to beat last year's 30-year high of 158 killings.

There have been 20 homicides in Georgia's capital city thus far, compared with 14 at the same point last year. (as of Aug. 2, 2022 there are now 88 homicides, we should end at 170 for 2022 with 5 months to go)

With 37 reported so far this year, compared with 11 at the same time in 2021, rapes are up 236%, police said.

Burglaries have increased 18%, with 229 reported as of Feb. 12, compared with 191 at the same time last year, and shoplifting cases are up 4%, with 164 cases so far this year, compared with 157 at this point in 2021.

After the theft of more than 2,000 guns from vehicles last year, Atlanta police said that irresponsible gun ownership contributed to many of the shootings this year, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Some city officials blamed the crime spike on former Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, asserteing that the progressive Democrat didn't do enough to fight crime, andBottoms said local Republicans were at fault for lenient gun laws and lifting the pandemic lockdown.

Inside the U.S. response to Iran on the draft nuclear deal

The U.S. told Iran through EU mediators that linking the UN investigation of Iran's undeclared nuclear activity to the reimplementation of the 2015 nuclear deal could delay lifting U.S. sanctions, according to a U.S. official and a think tank expert briefed on the issue.

Why it matters: The issue of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) investigations is one of the two remaining stumbling blocks in returning to the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Tehran demands the IAEA probes that focus on uranium particles UN investigators found at several Iranian sites be closed ahead of “reimplementation day” — 120 days after a new nuclear deal is signed.

Driving the news: According to the draft nuclear deal presented by the EU, the agreement's implementation would take place in several stages. The parties would move to the next stage only after full implementation of the steps they committed to taking, sources briefed on the draft said.

Stage three — reimplementation day — is expected to take place four months after the nuclear deal is signed. In this stage, Iran is expected to finish implementing all of the limitations on its nuclear program and resume the full IAEA inspection regime on its nuclear sites, the sources said.

The U.S. in return would lift all secondary sanctions on Iran and take other steps, including engaging with the private sector on how to do business with Iran.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Monday that resolving the IAEA investigation issue is a pillar of any nuclear deal and without it, “It is meaningless to talk about an agreement."

Between the lines: The four-month period between signing the deal and reimplementation day will give time to reach an agreement between the IAEA and Iran on the open investigations.

But it is unlikely Iran will agree to give the IAEA the clarifications it seeks. This could eventually lead to a suspension in the implementation of the deal.

U.S. officials hope the fact that Iran gets most of its sanctions relief only after reimplementation day will give the Iranians an incentive to continue implementing the agreement even if the IAEA investigations are not closed.

What they're saying: "The deal will be step by step and implementation for implementation — the Iranians won’t get it all at once, '' a U.S. official said.

Russia to boost military if NATO bases set in Finland, Sweden: Lavrov

During a meeting with students, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced, "If bases are deployed on the territory of Finland and Sweden, or rather, if a decision to create bases is made for them, I am convinced that the Americans will have the main word … Depending on how all this materializes, of course, we will make a decision to strengthen our capabilities in northwestern Russia. In any case, the line of contact with NATO will radically increase."

Russia expects objective assessment of situation at ZNPP from IAEA

Speaking on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP), Lavrov expressed Russia's expectation of an objective assessment of the situation at the site from experts sent by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He stressed, "We expect objectivity. Although all the others who are involved in this visit in one way or another, with its preparation and attempts to make it difficult, they clearly do not want the IAEA mission to draw objective conclusions," while adding that Russia considers all measures to ensure safety at the ZNPP and let IAEA experts do their work.

The IAEA experts mission, which is headed by Director General Rafael Grossi, arrived in Ukraine on Tuesday to inspect the power plant, which has been shelled over and over by the Ukrainian military. Last Tuesday, the Ukrainian forces launched a missile attack on Enerhodar near the ZNPP, using a minimum of 20 large-caliber artillery shells. The nuclear power plant is Europe's largest, and an accident will have dire consequences; a nuclear disaster whose effect will live on generations, to say the least.

A referendum regarding the status of Zaparozhye and Berdiansk, both of which have been liberated by the Russian armed forces over the Ukraine war, is set to be held in September. However, the exact date will be disclosed at a later time, Berdiansk mayor Alexander Saulenko told reporters on Wednesday.

Attack on Transnistria is an attack on Russia

Lavrov stressed that Moldova should understand that any action against peacekeepers in Transnistria will be considered an attack on Russia itself, "Everyone must understand that any action that will endanger the security of our military personnel will be considered, in accordance with international law, as an attack on the Russian Federation."

Russia should not close borders after EU’s decision on visas

According to Lavrov, Russia should not close its borders in response to the EU's decision to restrict the issuance of Schengen visas to Russian citizens, as EU member states reached a unison agreement to suspend EU-Russia visa facilitation processes and convened to prepare on what to do with the existing visas for Russians.

To the students, Lavrov disclosed, "I believe that in response to these Schengen walls that are now being built, we do not need to close, we do not need to take reciprocal measures, collectively punish citizens of European countries."

but since there are no rules in place to exercise this right, detained U.S. citizens currently have no way to gain access to lawyers, family or the court itself once they are detained within the military. Afran added that the new statute actually states that persons lawfully in the U.S. can be detained under the Authorization for the Use of Military Force [AUMF], while the original statute from the 2012 NDAA which he is fighting never went that far. Afran concluded: "Therefore, under the guise of supposedly adding protection to Americans, the new statute actually expands the AUMF to civilians in the U.S."

Could the Prospect of Lower Gas Prices Be Motivating Biden’s Revival of the Iran Deal?

It appears that we are days away from the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), otherwise known as the Iran Deal, the infamous agreement on Iran’s nuclear program between the Islamic Republic and the U.S., U.K., Russia, China, France, and Germany that the Trump administration withdrew from. Restoring the accord would have grave geopolitical consequences for the wider region and be a boon for America’s adversaries. But one unappreciated aspect of the pact’s resurrection is how it could benefit Democrats politically.

As soon as the deal is inked, Iran can increase its oil production by as much as 900,000 barrels daily, easing supply pressures significantly and bringing down prices in global energy markets. If crude-oil prices drop, prices at the pump will come down with them.

Lower gas prices would be a much-needed reprieve for consumers, but would also benefit Democrats politically in the run-up to the midterms. And achieving that desired outcome in this manner strengthens a regime hostile to the U.S. while enabling Biden and Democrats to escape the blame for the consequences of their policies, which are hostile to U.S. energy independence and incentivize foreign energy producers over domestic fossil-fuel production.

Now they think they can have their cake and eat it too: Reorient U.S. Middle East policy along pro-Iran lines — a longtime goal of the Obama administration, now sought by Biden — and get low gas prices.

This could help explain why the administration has been so quick to disregard the pleadings of our closest ally in the region, Israel, and do something that former national-security adviser John Bolton says is a “stunning mistake.”

There are consequences for mocking the Living God and associating foul language with His being. Your Chinese psychology of control won't work here. Here's something new.

I just talked to a friend of mine.

She said she has covid. She is a crossing guard for a school.

She said that if she shows the school her positive covid test that she doesn't have to use any sick days.

So if you're sick with covid you don't need to use your sick days.

But if you are sick for any other reason, you have to use your sick days.

She said it is a Pritzker thing. (Illinois Gov. Pritzker)

And it will continue until Jan.

I said, well that's convenient since he's running for re-election in Nov.

Dems. love to give other people's money away to get votes.
