CNN Correspondent Whines That Illegals Didn’t Pay For Their Own Tickets To Martha’s Vineyard

CNN correspondent Rosa Flores complained Thursday that taxpayers are being forced to foot the bill for illegal immigrants being sent out of border states.

 

Flores was reporting live from Texas, where dozens of illegal immigrants were shipped from and sent to Vice President Kamala Harris’ home in Washington, D.C., on Thursday. Flores said many of the illegal immigrants she spoke to are “so excited and elated” because they are being bussed for free.

 

“These migrants do not have money. A lot of them are here for economic reasons. A lot of them do not have money to get out of the border area and into their destinations to their families across the country what the buses are doing, courtesy of the taxpayer, is getting them closer to that destination,” Flores said.

 

“You know, Texas, for years, has focused on the enforcement, on the law enforcement on the border,” Flores said, noting Texas officials have focused “on filling in the gaps of security, where border patrol can’t because of surges at different points in time that we all covered. What has changed, and this is the interesting and fascinating part of this. What has changed is the cost. Who is paying for this?”

 

Flores explained migrants used to be taken by border patrol to respite centers and from there would disperse throughout the country, but on their own dime.

 

“The migrants would pay for the bus tickets themselves. Their family members across the country would send them money to the border and pay for these bus tickets or plane tickets so It was coming from the pockets of the migrants or family members. What is different now is that the taxpayer is now paying for it. It’s being politicized. That’s what is different. That’s what we’re seeing across the border.”

 

Two buses of illegal migrants were sent to Harris’ front door steps by Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. The buses came from Eagle Pass, Texas, and transported 75 to 100 illegal migrants from Venezuela, Uruguay, Colombia, and Mexico. Harris had been tasked by the administration to address the “root causes of migration” as migrant encounters at the southern border are expected to exceed two million in fiscal year 2022.

Mail Voting Law Is Illegal Under Delaware Constitution, Court Rules

A vote-by-mail law approved in July does not bode with Delaware law and the process cannot be used in the upcoming November elections, a state judge ruled Wednesday.

 

Democratic Delaware Gov. John Carney signed a bill July 22 that allows any voter to ask for a mail-in ballot with no excuse. But Vice Chancellor Nathan Cook of the Delaware Chancery Court determined the law violated a provision of the state’s constitution that lays out situations when a voter can vote by absentee ballot. The constitutional provision dictates that absentee voting is permitted in certain situations, like when a voter is “unable to appear to cast his or her ballot at any general election” or is “in the public service.”

 

“Our Supreme Court and this court have consistently stated that those circumstances are exhaustive,” Cook wrote in his ruling. “Therefore, as a trial judge, I am compelled by precedent to conclude that the vote-by-mail statute’s attempt to expand absentee voting to Delawareans who do not align with any of Section 4A’s categories must be rejected.”

 

The ruling came after a lawsuit was filed in February against the Delaware Department of Elections alleging that both permanent absentee voting and early voting “conflict” with the Delaware constitution. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Michael Mennella, an inspector of elections in the state, by the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF), a conservative nonprofit.

 

“This ruling upheld the rule of law in Delaware when not long-ago election officials across the country were ignoring the law,” said PILF President J. Christian Adams. “This law violated the election protections in Delaware’s Constitution. Election officials must follow the law. When laws are followed, even losers of elections can agree with the outcomes. Consent of the governed increases when the election rules are followed.”

 

Democrats in Delaware put forth the mail voting bill in June on the heels of Republicans disapproving the idea of amending the constitution, Delaware Call reported. Constitutional amendments must be passed with a two-third majority vote in both chambers, the outlet reported.

 

There was a mail voting law passed in 2020 in Delaware due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Associated Press. It expired on Jan. 12, 2021.

 

Delaware’s Chancery Court declined the DCNF’s request for comment and the governor’s office did not respond.

He was nominated on October 8, 2015, and confirmed by the United States Senate on December 15, 2015, as the 60th U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia[8] and was confirmed by the United States Senate via voice vote on December 15, 2015.[9] Boente was one of the 46 United States Attorneys ordered by Attorney General Jeff Sessions on March 10, 2017 to tender their resignation; Trump declined to accept his.[10]

 

Boente was not in the line of succession of the Attorney General of the United States pursuant to Executive Order 13762 signed by President Barack Obama before leaving office. He was appointed by President Donald Trump as Acting Attorney General on January 30, 2017, after Acting Attorney General Sally Yates was dismissed by Trump earlier that evening.[11][12] When Jeff Sessions was confirmed and sworn in as Attorney General on February 9, 2017, Boente became Acting Deputy Attorney General.[13][14] Also on February 9, 2017, Trump signed Executive Order 13775 to replace Obama's EO, an action which modified the order of succession to add Boente to the list.[15]

 

Sessions recused himself from all matters pertaining to American presidential campaigns because of revelations that he had communications with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak during the 2016 United States presidential election,[16][17] Boente was designated to perform the functions of the Attorney General with respect to campaign issues until the permanent deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, was confirmed and sworn into office[18] which took place on April 25, 2017.

 

On October 27, 2017 Boente announced his intention to resign as U.S. Attorney and as acting assistant attorney general for the National Security Division; he said he would remain in the positions until a replacement is confirmed.[19][20]

 

On January 23, 2018, Boente was named general counsel to the FBI by Director Christopher Wray, filling the vacancy after James Baker's reassignment to another part of the bureau.[21]

 

On May 29, 2020, Boente resigned from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, effective June 30.[22]

This is the largest philanthropic donation to medical research, and one of the largest gifts, in Australia’s history. Initial scoping suggests this new Centre will likely create in excess of two hundred new, long-term, high purpose, knowledge jobs and build upon the growing international reputation of the Melbourne medical precinct.

 

The Victorian Government has also contributed significantly to the new world-leading centre, initially committing $75 million in funding in recognition of the critical need to advance the science behind therapeutics.

 

The Centre will address the critical need to prepare for future pandemics. It will enable the rapid design and testing of new therapeutics, and their delivery to the community within months of a pandemic outbreak. To complement public health measures and in addition to vaccines, an effective pandemic response requires therapeutics for those who contract the disease. The development of new treatments has the potential to transform how the next outbreak is managed, but progress has traditionally lagged when compared to vaccines. Experience from other pandemics, including COVID-19, have shown that therapeutics are critically important in preventing the progression of infections to severe disease, and ultimately in saving lives.

 

The Centre will be established in the new $650 million Australian Institute for Infectious Disease, a partnership between the University of Melbourne, the Doherty Institute and Burnet Institute, co-funded by the Victorian Government as the major supporting partner.

Stock represents ownership of a company. Citizens are allowed to own, buy, trade companies, PERIOD.

 

The misdirected desire here is to not have elected representatives voting on policy that benefits his specific company, or for him to be able to make purchases based on his knowleege of policy votes before the public.

 

Enacting a ban on reps ability to trade stock while in office is punitive and eliminates "owners" from representing consitutents. Thus leaving the only eligible people for representing those who have no ownership investments (i.e. salary workers).

ROME — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently published a sharp letter excoriating the Vatican’s plans to renew an agreement with the Chinese government on Church operations in China. He promoted the article in a tweet, concluding, “The Vatican endangers its moral authority, should it renew the deal.”

 

An indignant Vatican took the article more as a calculated affront than a diplomatic gesture. The friction broke into the open on Wednesday as Mr. Pompeo arrived in Rome and met with prelates and others who are hostile to Pope Francis, while the Vatican denied him a meeting with the pontiff and rebuffed his efforts to derail the deal with China.

 

“Pompeo asked to meet” the pope, who turned him down because Francis had “clearly said that he does not receive political figures ahead of the elections,” Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who, as secretary of state, is the Vatican’s second-ranking official, told reporters.

 

But to some observers on both sides of the tensions between the Roman Catholic Church and the Trump administration, Mr. Pompeo’s visit is as much about the coming presidential election as about China policy. Mr. Pompeo dismissed that suggestion as absurd, but intended or not, his trip signals that President Trump is on the side of those conservative American Catholics who worry about the church’s direction under Francis and think he is soft on China.

 

Francis and Mr. Trump, who have exchanged sharp words in the past, present starkly different visions on issues ranging from the environment to immigration to the threat of populism. In appealing to the Vatican’s support for religious freedom as a reason to drop its China agreement, Mr. Pompeo seemed to seek common ground, but in a way that upset the pope’s chief allies and delighted his chief critics.

 

Cardinal Parolin said Mr. Pompeo’s article had caused “surprise” at the Vatican, because this visit to Rome by the secretary and the meetings with high officials at the Holy See had already been in the works and would have been a “more opportune” forum for airing grievances. He added that Mr. Pompeo’s choice to publish in First Things, a conservative Christian magazine that has called Francis a failure as Pope, also mattered.

The move leaves CNN with a gaping hole in primetime, as "Cuomo Prime Time" still has not been replaced since its namesake host Chris Cuomo was fired last year.

 

John Berman and Brianna Keilar will continue to anchor "New Day" until the new program premieres and then will be given new roles at the network. Given Keilar's liberal leanings and the recent ousters of such partisan CNN figures as John Harwood and Brian Stelter, some observers thought Keilar would be shown the door as the network continues to revamp under new CEO Chris Licht, but it appears she's sticking around.

The horrifying reports have sent flurries of law enforcement officers to all the schools, only for the cops to find nothing but confused staffers and terrified students.

 

“There is a SWAT team going classroom to classroom at Heights High School in Houston Texas and I am scared s—less,” one person wrote Tuesday on Twitter. “This is the new reality for our kids who are just trying to learn and live another day!”

 

Heights High in Houston was one of four schools targeted by hoaxes on Tuesday, Houston ABC affiliate KTRK reported. Fake shootings were also called in at Waco High School, Whitney Elementary School in Whitney and Connally High School in Pflugerville.

 

On Tuesday in California, fake shootings were reported at Madera High School in the state’s Central Valley and at Hollywood High in Los Angeles.

 

Five more fake California shootings were reported on Wednesday: at Lancaster High, north of Los Angeles; Bullard High in Fresno; Mater Dei High and Santa Rosa High in Chula Vista, south of San Diego; and Bishop Diego High in Santa Barbara.

According to the Inspector General for The Small Business Administration, $1.3 billion in COVID relief funds went to applicants with foreign internet addresses.

 

41,638 loans were given to foreign applicants between March 20, 2020, and November 12, 2021.

 

3,097 were given to applicants in “high-risk countries.”

 

 

The Small Business Administration gave $1.3 billion in COVID-19 disaster relief to applicants with foreign internet addresses, indicating possible international criminal organization involvement, the agency’s inspector general found.

 

While the Small Business Administration blocked more than 110,000 applications from six countries deemed to be “high risk,” the system did not block all applications from foreign nations, the inspector general’s report, published Monday, found. For example, over 33,000 applications were submitted from Nigeria and 241 were approved, giving applicants in the African nation nearly $20 million.

 

While the approval rate of applications from Nigeria was below 1%, applicants had a higher success rate in other countries such as Mexico (21%), Canada (18%), and India (16%).

 

The fraud continued through the Biden administration.

 

The ranking member of the Small Business Committee, GOP Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, said that The Small Business Administration “is not outfitted with the necessary infrastructure to manage large-scale and direct loan programs such as EIDL.”

The potential fraud detailed in the report, however, extended through the first 10 months of the Biden administration, and EIDL applications stopped in January. Rep. Yet Pottinger is portrayed as a leading protagonist in three different pro-lockdown books on America’s response to Covid-19: The Plague Year by the New Yorker’s Lawrence Wright, Nightmare Scenario by the Washington Post’s Yasmeen Abutaleb, and Chaos Under Heaven by the Washington Post’s Josh Rogin. Pottinger’s singularly outsized role in pushing for alarm, shutdowns, mandates, and science from China in the early months of Covid is extremely well-documented.

Pottinger’s enormous influence during Covid is especially surprising not only because of his absence from online discussion about these events, but because of who he is. The son of leading Department of Justice official Stanley Pottinger, Matt Pottinger graduated with a degree in Chinese studies in 1998 before going to work as a journalist in China for seven years, where he reported on topics including the original SARS. In 2005, Pottinger unexpectedly left journalism and obtained an age waiver to join the US Marine Corps.

In summary, as Deputy National Security Advisor, Matt Pottinger played a singularly outsized role in shaping America’s disastrous response to Covid by taking the following actions:

  1. Throughout January 2020, Pottinger unilaterally called White House meetings unbeknownst to those in attendance and breached protocol to ratchet up alarm about the new coronavirus based on information from his own sources in China, despite having no official intelligence to back up his alarmism.

Despite having no background in science or public health, beginning in February 2020, Pottinger embarked on a months-long campaign to urge the adoption of universal masking and travel quarantines in response to the coronavirus based on information from his own sources in China. However, there does not appear to be a single picture of Pottinger wearing a mask anywhere on the Internet.

  3. Pottinger popularized the idea of shutdowns within the White House using a questionable study on the 1918 flu pandemic comparing outcomes between Philadelphia and St. Louis, a month before this study received any significant attention from media outlets in 2020.

  4. Pottinger specifically courted Deborah Birx to serve as White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, who then embarked on a months-long campaign for lockdowns that were as long and strict as possible across the United States.

  5. Despite having no background in science or public health, Pottinger appears to have promoted the idea of mass testing for the coronavirus.

  6. Pottinger appears to have endorsed use of the drug remdesivir as a possible Covid therapy based on information from a doctor in China.

  7. Pottinger has continually promoted the conclusion that the coronavirus came from a lab, and specifically prodded the US intelligence community to do the same, regardless of evidence to support that conclusion, while simultaneously urging the global adoption of China’s virus containment measures.

In Pottinger’s speeches, he often discusses the need for more grassroots populism in China. Pottinger may have simply been overly-trusting of his sources, thinking they were the little people in China trying to help their American friends. But why did Pottinger push so hard for sweeping Chinese policies like mask mandates that were far outside his field of expertise?Why did he so often breach protocol? Why seek out and appoint Deborah Birx?Pottinger’s zealousness in endorsing these sweeping policies is even more bewildering because it’s widely known in the intelligence community that the CCP’s primary focus is on information warfare—“superseding their cultural and political values”..

Though political conditions in China have deteriorated rapidly, Pottinger is supposed to know that—that’s why he had the Top Secret security clearance and the big job in the National Security Council. In fact, we know how rapidly conditions in China have deteriorated in part because Matt Pottinger is the one who told us. The only reason anyone accepted all this information and guidance from these Chinese sources is that it came through Pottinger. I certainly can’t pass judgment. Charles, Anne, Edward and Andrew will hold another vigil beside the Queen's coffin in Westminster on Friday

 

According to the Mirror, Prince Harry will be allowed to wear a military uniform at the event on Saturday

 

Princes William and Harry will take part in a special vigil in honour of the Queen on Saturday, it has tonight been reported.

 

The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex are set to join the Queen's six other grandchildren in a special 15 minute vigil at Westminster Hall.

 

The eight grandchildren will reportedly stand in silence beside Her Majesty's coffin, in a scene which will mirror the Vigil of the Princes.

 

The special vigil saw King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, stand guard at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh earlier this week.

 

Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward will repeat the vigil at Westminster Hall on Friday night. It will now be followed by a separate event by the grandchildren on Saturday.

 

And in a further twist, the Duke of Sussex will be allowed to wear military uniform at the event, according to The Mirror.

Prince Andrew was stripped of his military affiliations and royal patronages, including Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, in January this year amid his defence of sexual assault allegations made against him by Jeffrey Epstein victim Virginia Roberts.

 

Earlier this year, Prince Andrew agreed a £12million deal to settle the US lawsuit, ending the possibility of a civil trial. Prince Andrew denied the allegations against him.

 

But as he is not a front line working royal, he is not allowed to wear military uniform. Prince Andrew served in the Royal Navy as a helicopter pilot and instructor and as the captain of a warship. He saw active duty during the Falklands War.

 

He did not wear a military uniform during the previous Vigil of the Princes at St Giles's Cathedral in Edinburgh this week, but he has been given special dispensation to wear a uniform for the event at Westminster Hall on Friday as a 'special mark of respect' for the Queen.

 

Prince Harry was stripped of his military titles in February as part of his agreement to step back from frontline royal duties and move to the US with wife Meghan Markle.

 

Buckingham Palace said that as the couple would not be returning as working members of the Royal Family, it was 'not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.'

 

Prince Harry served in the British army for a decade, including two tours of Afghanistan.

 

Prince Harry has reportedly been given special dispensation to don military colours at the vigil. However it is not clear what uniform he will wear, given that he no longer holds a position in the military.

 

The Duke of Sussex has so far be unable to wear military uniform during any of his public appearances following the Queen's death.

 

That is because, when he stepped back as a front line royal in the wake of Megxit, he was stripped of his military patrognages.

 

Prince Harry, who served in the British army for a decade including two tours of Afghanistan, has so far worn a mourning suit with military medals to public events.

 

However Prince Andrew, who also stepped back frontline royal duties in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein sex scandal, is set to be given special dispensation to wear his colours on Friday night.

 

The exception was made for the Duke of York to wear uniform for the vigil at Westminster Hall as a 'final mark of respect' for his mother.

 

He is expected to wear the full military dress uniform of a Vice Admiral of the Navy - the only military rank that he still holds.

 

The decision to allow Prince Andrew to wear a military uniform, while maintain the Duke of Sussex's ban, had led to criticism from some quarters, while the Duke of Sussex himself released a pointed statement addressing the issue, saying his decade of service was 'not determined by the uniform he wears'.

China’s Xi visits Kazakhstan ahead of summit with Putin

The Russian president’s encounters with the Chinese leader cannot be considered a meeting of equals, analysts say.

 

Few recent meetings had been as highly anticipated as the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The Russian and Chinese leaders met on Thursday as Putin’s relations with the West continued to unravel over his war on Ukraine and as China’s military harassment of Taiwan seemed set to put Xi on a collision course with Taipei’s United States and European allies – sanctions being hinted as the first point of impact. The pair had last met in February, promising that the Russia-China relationship would be “without limits”. On Thursday, Xi called Putin his “old friend”, but the mutually endorsing speeches of the two authoritarian heavyweights were muted. Putin sat at some distance from Xi, on the opposite sides of two long rounded tables where they were flanked by their delegations. The Russian leader began by blasting those who had attempted to “create a unipolar world”, and expressed appreciation to Xi for “the balanced position of our Chinese friends in connection with the Ukrainian crisis”. “We understand your questions and concern about this,” Putin added, without explanation, before moving on to condemn Western “provocation” in the Taiwan Strait. Xi’s surprising response focused on bringing stability and positivity to a world in disarray.

 

“China is willing to work with Russia to play a leading role in demonstrating the responsibility of major powers, and to instill stability and positive energy into a world in turmoil,” Xi told Putin.

 

Putin’s encounter with Xi in Samarkand appeared to underscore what analysts said was an increasingly unequal relationship between the two leaders. Putin’s predicaments – a military quagmire in Ukraine, waves of sanctions on the Russian economy, and growing international isolation – meant that he now came “hat in hand” to meet with China. And while Putin has emphasised the importance of Asia as an alternative to what he describes as an ailing Western-led political and economic order, the Russian leader’s own place in an Asia-led future is more of a vassal than a visionary leader, the analysts have said. “Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine has forced Russia to turn to its fellow Eurasian giant, hat in hand,” Alexander Gabuev, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, wrote in Foreign Affairs magazine.

 

China has thrown Russia an economic lifeline since the invasion of Ukraine led to sanctions imposed on the Russian economy. But, the disruption has been to the benefit of China too, which has positioned itself as an alternative market for Russian goods, and as a major customer for cheap Russian fuel. “China and Russia often appear as a pair, two great authoritarian powers seeking to revise the international order. But theirs is not a relationship of equals,” Gabuev said, explaining that Beijing’s dominance in its relationship with Moscow is only likely to grow as the war in Ukraine persists.

Biden may be plotting to keep Congress out of the Iran nuclear deal

Negotiators from Iran, the United States and the European Union have once again nearly concluded indirect talks over the “final text” of a nuclear deal. Like the 2015 deal formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the new deal imposes temporary restrictions on the Iranian nuclear program in exchange for broad sanctions relief. Though the talks appear to have reached another impasse, they could rapidly conclude in the coming weeks if Iran decides to show flexibility. As it prepares to market the deal to a skeptical Congress, the Biden administration has hinted that negotiations in Vienna did not result in a new agreement, but merely all sides returning to compliance with the JCPOA. This may seem likely a purely semantic point but may actually be a calculated effort to avoid a congressional vote after a review of the nuclear deal, as required by the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 (INARA). In May, the State Department Special Representative for Iran Rob Malley pledged to submit any prospective agreement with Iran for congressional review. INARA specifies that within five calendar days after reaching any agreement with Iran relating to its nuclear program, the president must transmit the full agreement to Congress. INARA also lays out procedures for congressional review and an expedited process for voting on the deal if Congress so chooses. The Biden administration may still be hoping to avoid a congressional vote by claiming that it is merely returning to the JCPOA, which went through the INARA review process in 2015. Thus, the White House may try to argue that, while they are submitting the text of an agreement for review there is no need for Congress to vote on it again. Democratic leadership in Congress may be tempted to indulge in such an argument and use their majority positions to avoid a tough vote as the midterms approach. That would be a dereliction of Congress’ important oversight role.

 

The authors of INARA anticipated chicanery from the executive branch. Congress enacted the law in 2015 while the JCPOA was in the final stages of negotiations. Once the Obama administration made clear its intent to circumvent Congress and not submit the agreement as a treaty, lawmakers of both parties demanded a say, noting the scale of U.S. commitments under the deal. An overwhelming majority of Congress — 98 senators and 400 House members — ultimately voted to pass INARA, thereby ensuring their ability to review the agreement. Crucially, Congress took pains to define the term “agreement” broadly to prevent the Obama administration from circumventing lawmakers. Under INARA, the term “agreement” means an agreement “related to the nuclear program of Iran that includes the United States, commits the United States to act, or in which the United States commits or otherwise agrees to act, regardless of the form it takes.” The president must transmit that agreement regardless of whether it is legally binding or merely a political commitment. Finally, the administration must transmit additional materials related to any agreement, including annexes, appendices, codicils, side agreements, implementing materials, documents and guidance, technical or other understandings, and any related agreements. The terms of the new agreement with Iran are not yet public, but reportedly involve substantial amendments to the JCPOA. That should not be surprising. The Trump administration pulled out of the JCPOA more than four years ago, so Washington and Tehran cannot just flip a switch and go back to the way things were.

 

From a statutory point of view, reentering a substantially amended agreement effectively amounts to “reaching an agreement” under INARA, thereby triggering the law’s transmittal and review requirements. During the period in which Congress reviews and votes on the new agreement, the administration cannot provide sanctions relief from measures imposed by Congress, which greatly curtails the administration’s flexibility in providing Tehran immediate, unobstructed benefits. That is one reason the administration wants to get around INARA. They have apparently found another way: according to leaked audio from the lead Iranian negotiator, prior to submitting the deal to Congress the Biden administration will simply lift or suspend three executive orders relating to Iran. We reconstructed the details using other public Iranian and U.S. government documents and found that this would result in the lifting of over 170 sanctions on critical Iranian banks, terrorists and foreign sanctions evaders.

Special Counsel Durham's lead prosecutor withdraws from next up Danchenko case

Assistant special counsel Andrew DeFilippis led the prosecution of former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann in May.

 

Special Counsel John Durham's lead prosecutor has withdrawn from the case of Igor Danchenko, a source for the Christopher Steele dossier, less than two months before the trial is scheduled to begin.

The filing to withdraw was submitted late Sunday by Assistant Special Counsel Andrew DeFilippis, The Washington Times reported.

 

There are no other details offered in the filing, and the Justice Department has yet to respond to a request for comment.

 

Durham was appointed in 2020 by the Justice Department to be a special counsel to investigate the federal government's probe into alleged collusion between Russia and the 2016 Trump presidential campaign.

 

The investigation includes learning about the origins of the now-discredited Steele, created to try to find dirt on then-GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

 

DeFilippis didn't immediately respond Monday to a request for comment from Just the News.

 

In May, DeFilippis led the prosecution of former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann, whom a Washington, D.C., jury found not guilty this summer of lying to the FBI about the alleged Trump-Russia collusion.

 

DeFilippis was also a top prosecutor in the special counsel's case against former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith, who pleaded guilty to doctoring an email that was used to justify a surveillance warrant targeting former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

 

Danchenko's trial is scheduled to start Oct. 16. He was charged last fall for repeatedly lying to the FBI about compiling information for the dossier. Danchenko has pleaded not guilty.
