Trains stopped in Durham after train hits car stuck on tracks Sunday, no injuries

 

DURHAM, Calif. - CAL FIRE Butte Unit says that Union Pacific Railroad has halted train movement because a car stuck on the tracks was hit by a train on Sunday in Durham.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Midway and Brown Street at around 2:35 p.m.

CAL FIRE says that Union Pacific Railroad investigators are at the scene, and they estimate that trains will be up and running in about three hours.

There are no reported injuries. CHP and CAL FIRE Butte Unit both responded to the scene.

Vocal Kiev supporter claims election victory

Estonian PM Kaja Kallas has praised a “strong mandate” to continue bolstering Ukraine against Russia

 

Estonia’s ruling Reform Party performed much better than expected in parliamentary elections, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said on Sunday, as her main challenger suggested the victory was “stolen” during a week-long electronic vote.

 

Those Estonians who did not cast an early vote over the internet went to the polls on Sunday to elect a new parliament, with final results tallied by early Monday morning. The center-right Reform won 31.9 percent of the vote and was set to claim 37 seats in the 101-seat legislature, while its far-right rival, the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia (EKRE), took 15.8 percent and 17 seats.

 

“This result… will give us a strong mandate to put together a good government,” Kallas told her supporters on Sunday night, adding that it likely means the flow of aid to Kiev will continue uninterrupted, because most other parties “have chosen the same line.”

 

EKRE leader Martin Helme claimed on election night that they “did everything right and with honesty, unlike those who stole our well-deserved victory.” He promised to “contest the e-vote in court” and not recognize the results until allowed to “see the logs, sections of code.”

 

Under Kallas’ leadership since 2021, Estonia, along with the other Baltic states, has become once of the most hardline supporters of Ukraine amid the conflict with Moscow, pledging roughly 1% of its GDP in military assistance to Kiev, and strongly backing EU sanctions on Russia.

 

Kallas has several potential junior partners to negotiate a new ruling coalition with, including Estonia 200 which secured 13.6 percent of the vote, the Social Democrats who received 9.4 percent and the Fatherland party with 8.3 percent. She however expressed doubt over the Centre Party’s (14.5 percent) commitments to aiding Ukraine, and explicitly rejected any talks with EKRE, accusing Helme of focusing too much on Estonia’s “self-interest.”

 

“We’ve never questioned support for Ukraine. We’ve never questioned Estonia's membership in NATO,” Helme retorted in an interview with AP, arguing that the current leadership has “basically given away all our heavy weaponry to Ukraine” at the cost of Estonia’s national security. The party also faced criticism for other “populist” ideas, such as seeking to limit the flow of refugees, including Ukrainians, to protect Estonian workers.

UK PM to launch anti-asylum bill

The move is part of Rishi Sunak’s pledge to "tackle illegal migration"

 

Rishi Sunak’s Conservative government in the United Kingdom is set to announce a new law that would stop people who enter the country on small boats from claiming asylum. The legislation, which will be launched this week, comes as part of the government’s pledge to "tackle illegal migration."

 

"Illegal migration is not fair on British taxpayers, it is not fair on those who come here legally and it is not right that criminal gangs should be allowed to continue their immoral trade," Sunak said in an interview with the Mail on Sunday. "So, make no mistake, if you come here illegally, you will not be able to stay."

 

Provisionally titled the Illegal Migration Bill, the new law will seek to make asylum claims by people who enter the country with theuse of small vessels inadmissible by British law.Such migrants would be removed from the UK "as soon as reasonably practicable" to Rwanda or to a "safe third country." Asylum seekers who violate the law will also be banned from returning to the UK.

 

The UK and Rwanda agreed to a five-year ‘asylum partnership arrangement’ in 2022, under which asylum-seekers will be permitted to seek asylum in the African country. However, the UK government’s attempts to deport people to Rwanda have so far been blocked by courts. Human rights campaigners have also been heavily critical of the plan.

 

Asylum-seekers looking to gain entry to the UK have rights protected by the UN’s Refugee Convention and the European Convention on Human Rights. The Illegal Migration Bill will have a "rights break," which would effectively circumvent the UN’s refugee convention, according to the Mail on Sunday.

 

Critics of the legislation say that the law will not prevent illegal entry, but instead result in thousands of asylum seekers being detained at huge expense to the UK taxpayer. "It’s unworkable, costly and won’t stop the boats,"Enver Solomon of the Refugee Council said.

 

Last year, anestimated 45,755 migrants crossed the English Channel into Britain, according to government statistics. It is the highest such number since records began being kept in 2018. The UK Home Office says 2,950 have made the crossing so far in 2023, with migrants arriving from a range of countries including Albania, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.

It seems as if the left’s “green energy” initiatives that are meant to be environmentally friendly are actually doing more harm to the environment than good.

 

Whales are being stranded on American beaches that just so happen to be near offshore wind projects, leading many to believe that these projects are actually causing these deadly strandings.

 

According to Fox Business, however, federal agencies such as the Marine Mammal Commission are denying any link between the strandings and the offshore wind projects, despite previous warnings from the National Ocean Atmospheric Association (NOAA).

 

In May 2022, NOAA scientist Sean Hayes wrote a memo stating that “the development of offshore wind poses risks to these species [whales]” and that “these risks occur at varying stages, including construction and development, and include increased noise, vessel traffic, habitat modifications, water withdrawals associated with certain substations.”

 

Meanwhile, lawmakers and scientists have been calling on the federal and state governments to pass a moratorium on offshore wind projects pending an investigation into whether these deaths are caused by these projects.

 

Several people have taken to Twitter to express their disgust at the leftist hypocrisy and silence regarding this issue.

 

Former New Jersey congressional candidate Steve Gray wrote, ” Where are the environmentalists? No outrage. No protests against a Democrat led Government backing offshore windmills. The hypocrisy is deafening. 14 dead whales and counting.”

 

The first major irony in all of this is the fact that it is whales who are the ones being adversely affected by these projects.

 

For decades, leftists and environmentalists have held up whales as a sacred symbol of environmentalism and launched campaigns aimed at “saving the whales”, and produced several films with the same message.

 

Now, it seems as if these same environmentalists are disregarding the lives of the very creatures that they claimed to care so much about as their initiatives could potentially be doing massive harm to them.

 

Also, we need to point out that wind energy is constantly being marketed by the left as an environmentally-friendly alternative to fossil fuels, with many leftist governments wanting to make a complete shift to alternative energy.

 

Of course, there is the fact that these alternative energy sources have been shown time and time again to be completely unreliable.

There are many current variations of this talking point, but generally speaking this ‘big tent new Republican Party‘ message is what you hear from the Karl Rove, Nikki Haley, Chris Sununu, Mitch McConnell, Ronna McDaniel and the entirety of the cocktail class Republican circuit. It is a common talking point amid all the professional pundits.

 

However, to point out the nonsense of their argument, if we take them at their word, what we find in almost every Republican poll demographic Donald Trump’s biggest base of support is younger, less wealthy, working class voters of every ethnicity. As outlined in the YouGov Poll cited, Donald Trump literally brings to the GOP exactly what they claim to want. Yet these professional Republican voices use their talking point to frame a narrative against Trump.

 

Check out the data against the GOPe talking point. As we have previously discussed, the younger the voter the more support for Donald Trump. The support for Donald Trump also increases with Hispanic voters. It is only in the very wealthy white voters where you find support increasing for Ron DeSantis; this is the exact opposite of what the professional pundits claim in print and broadcast media.

 

As you can see above, Ron DeSantis supportincreases with older, wealthy, white voters. Support for Ron DeSantis decreases with younger, less affluent, voters with ethnic diversity. This is the exact opposite of the professional Republican pundit talking points. I am highlighting it [DATA HERE] so you can see for yourself and use this reality in your conversations and candidate debates.

 

Donald J. Trump has larger appeal to younger, diverse, working class voters. This is the heart of MAGA and why the traditional Republican Party, the party of old white people, is trying to remove him.

In a report published by The Telegraph, the British publication outlines that among some 100,000 WhatsApp messages it obtained from British ministers, officials, and others, one set of messages showed former British Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who served from 2018 to 2021, suggesting he wanted to "deploy" a new COVID-19 variant to "frighten the pants off" the public into complying with lockdowns. In December 2020, two days after being informed of the emergence of a new variant known as the alpha or Kent variant, Hancock suggested in a WhatsApp conversation that the new strain would be helpful in preparing the ground for a looming lockdown by scaring people into compliance. Hancock's media adviser, Damon Poole, suggested that they could "roll pitch with the new strain" to prepare the ground for tougher restrictions in the run-up to Christmas 2020. The leak of the WhatsApp messages, known as the "Lockdown Files," also revealed that former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was wavering between being either a lockdown skeptic or a proponent but nonetheless was aware of his government's efforts to scare the public. "What's the data like today? Tory narrative that we panicked too soon etc.," Johnson wrote two days after the United Kingdom's second national lockdown in November 2020. The Telegraph notes in their report that psychologists were warning that the government's use of alleged "fear tactics" in health campaigns were "grossly unethical," which would contribute to excess non-COVID-19 deaths and increase anxiety disorders.

 

And in January 2021, Simon Case, the cabinet secretary, alongside Hancock, suggested that the "fear/guilt factor" would be "vital" in encouraging compliance with pandemic protocols. The two politicians weighed different options, including mandating "more mask wearing … in all settings outside home." "Basically, we need to get compliance up," Case said. The cabinet secretary then noted that the fear campaign had to be tactful because adding some measures, such as a ban on fishing, "will be parodied galore if it looks like we have suddenly decided fishing is the first step towards tier 5!" Orca pair devour 17 sharks in a day in South African killing spree, say marine biologists

An infamous pair of adult male orca whales in South Africakilled 17 sharksin "one sitting," according tomarinebiologists.

 

The team at Marine Dynamics Conservation Trust has been tracking the two whales, named Port and Starboard, who are known to prey on several species of sharks.

 

They found the orcas "repeatedly diving down in a small area for almost two hours before they departed offshore."

 

Days later, they found the remains of 11 of the 17 killed sevengill sharks in Pearly Beach. Sevengill sharks can grow up to 10 feet in length.

 

"Each sevengill shark was torn open and missing its liver," said the Maine Dynamics Conservation Trust. The orcas had also devoured the contents of the sharks' stomachs.

 

The conservation trust said the sharks were washed to shore as due to storm and surge conditions, Alison Towner, PhD candidate at Rhodes University and research lead, said, "this is the largest amount of sharks these orcas have killed in this area in one sitting," says Towner, "There could well be more that didn't wash out."

 

The orca duo have been tracked since 2009 but are most commonly seen in False Bay, South Africa, where they were first spotted in 2015.

 

They are easy to identify due to their rare collapsed dorsal fins.

 

Before 2015, great white shark sightings were common in the region and were famous for spectacular breaching when theyhunted seals, but their population is now negligible.

 

The carcasses of several great white sharks have since washed up on the shores of False Bay, all grossly injured and with their oil-rich livers ripped out. For the first time in May 2022, scientists were able to film Starboard killing a great white shark.

Matt Hancock found himself at the heart of a number of controversies during the coronavirus pandemic – even before the exposure of his extramarital affair led to his resignation from the Cabinet.

 

Hancock resigned as health secretary a day after photographs emerged of him embracing his aide Gina Coladangelo in what appeared to be CCTV footage from inside the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

 

After his breach of his own rules as captured on 6 May came to light, Hancock announced in a video shared on Twitter that he would step down, saying: “Those of us who make these rules have got to stick by them and that’s why I’ve got to resign.”

 

His submitted his resignation formally in a letter to Boris Johnson. The prime minister responded that he was “sorry” to receive it and that Hancock “should leave office very proud of what (he has) achieved”.

 

Here are a few other occasions in the past 15 months when the former cabinet minister found himself in hot water.

 

17 June 2020

The health secretary apologised for a “human mistake” after he slapped a colleague on the back in the House of Commons, despite social distancing measures still being in place to curb the spread of coronavirus.

 

11 October 2020

Hancock was forced to deny claims that he broke the government’s Covid drinking curfew, which was in place last autumn, after reports claimed that he had stayed in a Commons bar beyond 10pm.

 

19 February 2021

The high court found that the government unlawfully failed to publish details of billions of pounds’ worth of coronavirus-related contracts.

 

It was ruled that Hancock had “breached his legal obligation to publish contract award notices within 30 days of the award of contracts” after spending “vast quantities of public money” on procurement in 2020. Hancock declined to apologise.

 

23 February 2021

Labour accused Hancock of insulting health professionals after he claimed there was “never” a national shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the early days of the pandemic.

 

In March 2020, the Royal College of Nursing said some nurses had been sent to treat patients on Covid wards with “no protection at all”.

 

26 May 2021

The prime minister’s former aide, Dominic Cummings, used his appearance in front of the Commons health and social care and science and technology committees to air allegations that the health secretary had lied to the prime minister over a promise to test new arrivals in care homes at the outset of the pandemic.

 

Cummings said he had recommended to Johnson on several occasions that Hancock should be sacked over his handling of the crisis.

 

Hancock denied the care home allegations, but admitted that there were not enough tests available in spring 2020 to test everyone entering residential homes.

 

28 May 2021

Hancock was ruled to have committed a “minor”, inadvertent breach of the ministerial code by failing to declare that a family firm in which he held shares won an NHS contract, following a probe by the prime minister’s ethics adviser.

 

Lord Geidt, the independent adviser on ministerial standards, found that Hancock should have declared that Topwood Ltd – a firm owned by his sister and in which he held shares – was approved as an NHS contractor. But Geidt did not recommend that Hancock resign.

Cummings, who left No 10 last year, published apparent correspondence between him and the prime minister in which Johnson appeared to call the health secretary “totally fucking hopeless”.

When asked about the reported comments, Hancock called the jibe “ancient history”.

One dead, two injured in fiery caught-on-video plane crash on Long Island

One person was killed and two others injured when a small plane crashed in a Long Island neighborhood on Sunday — with the aircraft seen bursting into flames on wild doorbell cam video.

The plane crashed near Fifth Street and North Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst around 3 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

The pilot reported smoke in the cockpit as the aircraft approached Republic Airport, a National Transportation Safety Board spokeswoman said, according to Newsday.

The craft’s engine can be heard roaring on dramatic Ring camera footage, followed by a large bang. A ball of flames then erupts before a plume of black smoke rises up behind the trees.

“Basically you heard like, tah-tah-tah, and then all of a sudden you heard a bang and a little bit like a squeak,” said local resident Ken Defreitas, whose doorbell cam captured the explosion in a wooded area near his home.

“At first it didn’t really take,” Defreitas, a volunteer with the West Babylon Fire Department, told The Post. “You know these cars that backfire? That’s what it sounded like.

“I started listening to my pager and that’s when they said that they had a plane go down,” he said. “I went outside and you see all the black smoke.”

 

The identities of the three people on the plane have not been released.

 

Suffolk County cops said they shut down local roads while investigating the crash.

The crash occurred close to Long Island Rail Road tracks.

Two native Hawaiian men were sentenced to prison terms for a federal hate crime in the brutal beating of a white man who was trying to move into their remote Maui village.

A jury in November found that Kaulana Alo-Kaonohi and Levi Aki Jr. attacked Christopher Kunzelman because of his race — punching, kicking and beating him with a shovel in 2014, when he tried to move into their neighborhood of Kahakuloa.

Alo-Kaonohi, 33, was sentenced to 78 months;Aki, 33, was sentenced to 50 months, the Justice Department said.

“The defendants in this case nearly killed a man because they believed he did not belong in their neighborhood because of the color of his skin,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.

“The law protects everyone in this country from racially motivated violence, and these sentences send a strong message that such violence will not be tolerated.”

Local lawyers believe it’s the first time the US has prosecuted native Hawaiians for hate crimes. The case has highlighted the struggle between native Hawaiians looking to preserve their culture and newcomers to Hawaii who are unaware of its history and racial dynamics.

Lawyers for the two men deny the attack was racially fueled, but because of the victim’s entitlement and disrespectful attitude.

Kunzelman’s wife Lori said the couple loved Maui, and that her husband had purchased a home sight unseen for $175,000 to repair after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

When he began working on the house, he was harassed and threatened by locals who claimed things like: “This is a Hawaiian village. The only thing coming from the outside is the electricity,” and “You don’t even belong in Hawaii,” according to evidence presented during the trial.

“It was obviously a hate crime from the very beginning,” she said. “The whole time they’re saying things like, ‘You have the wrong skin color. No ‘haole’ is ever going to live in our neighborhood.’”

“Haole” is a Hawaiian word with a complicated history. Its meanings include foreigner and white person. According to Judy Rohrer, the author of “Haoles in Hawai’i,” when someone is “acting haole” they are acting out of entitlement and like they “own the place.”

Video from cameras on Kunzelman’s vehicle shows Aki saying “You’s a haole, eh,” which Kunzelman testified was said in a derogatory way.

“When you watch the video … there was almost like enthusiasm,”said US District Judge J. Michael Seabright. “Maybe that’s what’s so disturbing about this case.”

The two men took Kunzelman’s phone, which recorded the attack, and tossed it into the ocean. After the assault, Aki referred to Kunzelman to police as a “rich Haole guy,” a “dumb haole” and a “typical haole thinking he owning everything … trying to change things up in Kahakuola,” according to prosecutors.

The men were upset after Kunzelman cut locks to village gates, their lawyers said. Kunzelman said he did so because residents continuously locked him in and out while he was fixing his new home. He testified that he wanted to provide the village with better locks and distribute keys to residents.

“The hate crime messed me up,” Kunzelman said in court Thursday.

In a letter to the judge, Aki said he doesn’t see himself as racist: “Not only because I am almost half-Caucasian but also because I have people who I love and care about who are white.” He added that he’s ashamed of his immature and hurtful works and actions.

Context and why this is important

The intersection of machine learning and genetic engineering is speeding up development of new technologies and new applications creating transformational opportunities as well as difficult ethical challenges for society as a whole. The combination has opened doors to advances in medicine which change the way we understand health. But its potential extends beyond health in development of new materials and genetic engineering across biological organisms and in adapting biological processes. Parallel advances in robotics and automation are another force for acceleration. And, we don’t yet know what further dimension quantum computing could bring.

As the physical becomes digital, the opportunities for individuals will be life changing. Such technologies could have impact on people’s identities, personal morality and ethics. For societies, new kinds of inequalities could result, bringing fresh challenges for democratic processes. National economies will change and dual use means there are new threats to security. Autocratic states will follow different paths. And yet, questions of governance lag far behind. How social values and norms inform the ways technology develops is far from clear.

 

People

This conference brought together a mix of expertise including geneticists and biologists, biotechnologists, microbiologists; thinkers on philosophy, religion, law and machine learning, investors and a range of company founders.

 

Analysis

We felt like explorers of a whole new continent of opportunity and risk.

Presentations on genomic prediction and the significance of current applications in IVF and embryo selection quickly captured attention. Other features of the intersection of machine learning and genetic engineering, such as the understanding of human and computer interaction; uses in plants and agriculture; uses in warfare and the implications for security, were raised but issues of healthcare and the implications of embryo selection dominated because the dilemmas are already playing out and are urgent.

Society has yet to catch up. Establishing values, norms and regulation to facilitate the continued advance of the technology requires a deeper understanding of potential applications of machine learning and genetic engineering to map 2nd, 3rd and 4th order, as yet unknown, effects.

The interests of individuals wishing to select better outcomes for themselves and their offspring may well clash with the interests, longer-term, of populations as a whole. The question of the environmental impact on genetic expression would not go away. If we optimise ourselves for the environment we have now, and it then changes, what then? Are all bets off for genetic engineering if the environment changes? Do we have to learn to shape the environment as well as ourselves – which man has always sought to do?

Geography; research, applications and governance follow different tracks in different in parts of the world. What is acceptable and in fact happening already in some countries is not acceptable in others. What happens next?

 

Responses – not consensus, but ideas emerging

 

We need better maps of technological pathways and accompanying explanatory narratives. Calls were made for models, visualisations, scenarios and mapping with explorations for example of potential 2nd/3rd/4th order effects and unintended consequences. Alongside modelling, we need exploratory narratives to help develop our collective understanding of what is happening, what could happen and what the various publics in different parts of the world want to happen.

 

Don’t give up on multilateralism. Regulation at a multilateral, multinational level should be explored. Despite the doubt and concern over the effectiveness of multinational institutions – opportunities remain for collective frameworks for governance and regulation that reflect widely shared values. There are opportunities for the G20, WHO etc.

 

New approaches to data that allow use of anonymised data and support innovation, which could unlock the potential of this new field of technology and science should be a focus for research.

 

Focus innovation on where publics want to see change – for example, in oncology and cancer treatment.

 

Realise early that this is a contemporary security issue as well as a health issue.

What our source reports is this:

 

  • There is a planned Third World War, which will be nuclear and biological. Our source believes that this is on track to be initiated within the next 18-24 months.

 

  • It is planned to begin with a strike by Israel on Iran. Either Iran or China will be provoked into a nuclear response. After a brief nuclear exchange, there will be a ceasefire. The world will be thrown into fear and chaos - all carefully engineered.

 

  • The extreme state of tension will be used to justify heavy social and military controls in all western first world nations. Plans are already in place for that.

 

  • During the nuclear ceasefire, there is planned to be a covert release of biological weapons. These will initially be targeted against the Chinese. As our source chillingly told us, "China will catch a cold". Biological warfare will spread further, to the west. Infrastructure will be critically weakened.

 

  • This is intended to be just the beginning. After this, a full nuclear exchange would be triggered: the "real" war, with widespread destruction and loss of life. Our source tells us that the planned population reduction through these combined means is 50%. He heard this figure stated in the meeting.

 

This horrific scenario has been planned for generations. The first two world wars were part of the set-up for this final apocalypse - as is the centralization of financial resources that was precipitated with the equally well-planned financial collapse of October 2008.

 

As if all this were not enough, our source speculates this is all set against the backdrop of a coming "geophysical event" - the same kind of event as was experienced by our ancestors approximately 11,500 years ago. If this event occurs - not necessarily expected in 2012, but sometime in the next decade - it would destroy civilization as we know it, dwarfing even the effects of a nuclear war.

 

I asked the question to our source: If there's an expected catastrophe, then why initiate a Third World War? His answer, for the first time to me, made terrible sense.

 

The real goal, he explained, is to set up the post-catastrophic world. To ensure that this "New World" [note the term] is the one the controllers want, totalitarian control structures need to be in place when the catastrophe occurs - with an excuse that the populace will accept and demand them. Martial law in the right, carefully chosen countries before the catastrophe occurs will enable the "right" people to survive and prosper in the post-catastrophic world, and the beginning of the next 11,500 year cycle. What may have been carefully planned on a covert global scale, for the last several generations, is nothing less than who will inherit the Earth.

 

Who are the "right" people? The white Caucasians. This may be why the name of this project is The Anglo-Saxon Mission. Hence the justification for the planned genocide of the Chinese people - so that the New World is inherited by "us", not "them".

 

Our source was not informed about the planned fate of the second and third world countries such as those in South America, Africa and Asia. But he presumes that these would be allowed to fend for themselves and probably not survive well - or maybe not at all. The totalitarian military governments of the western, white, people are set to be the inheritors.
