Hayim Nissim Cohen, 38, was charged with sexual assault and continuous sex abuse of a child under 17 years old after one of his adoptive sons accused him of molesting him for years. Cohen, of Houston, amassed a large social media following in which he showcased his large family's religious lifestyle and advocated for single men adopting children. The boy who made the allegation says his siblings were moldested too. Cohen is also accused of fabricating physical ailments to mask his true nature from the public. It was not the first time Cohen had been accused of assault, with a previous allegation made against him in 2019. He's also now been accused of lying about being Jewish, as well as the chronic health conditions he claims to suffer.

A Houston rabbi who gained fame on social media for adopting nine boys as a single father was arrested after one of his sons accused him of years of sexual abuse.

Hayim Nissim Cohen, 38, was charged in February with sexual assault and continuous sex abuse of a child under 17 years old, after one of his sons called in to a podcast to report the alleged abuse.

The 17-year old boy alleged Cohen had abused a number of his brothers, and at times threatened to kill them if they ever revealed the abuse. Six of Cohen's children were since removed from the home and placed in protective care.

It was not the first time Cohen had been accused of assault. He was out on bond over a 2019 case in which he was accused of sexual contact by a student, now 20 years old, who was staying with Cohen during an exchange program from Spain.

Cohen has also been accused of faking his Orthodox Jewish heritage and his alleged disabilities. He regularly poses for photos while hooked up to an oxygen tank and in a wheelchair.

I just hate these kind of stories. If there is not solid evidence it is hard to say if there is really something going on.

 

When I was a kid, I had a friend that had a very strict parent. Their dad was excessively strict. Grounded for weeks etc for skipping homework or what ever.

 

Someone gave my friend the wild idea to start saying he was being abused by his dad and shit went downhill fast. I know he was not being physically abused at all. I grew up with him living around the corner for 16 years.

 

What I have seen with the Protective services, they seem to target non-event complaints and let very obvious ones go. I dont know if that is some kind of tactic to let the serious crap go till it turns into something they can get them on or not. It has always just looked odd and backward in my experience.

House Bill 645 would ban individuals who received the COVID-19 vaccine from donating blood, making it a misdemeanor with a $500 fine to donate or accept blood from vaccinated donors

 

A Montana Republican is pushing a bill to bar those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine or suffer from "long COVID" from donating blood—a proposal some critics say could effectively eradicate the state's supply of blood.

 

Formally introduced in the Montana State Legislature on February 17, House Bill 645 proposes a misdemeanor offense for anyone who knowingly donates whole blood, plasma, blood products, blood derivatives, human tissue, organs, or bones containing "gene-altering proteins, nanoparticles, high-count spike proteins from long covid-19, or other isolates introduced by mRNA or DNA vaccines, mRNA or DNA chemotherapies, or other novel mRNA or DNA pharmaceutical biotechnologies."

 

The legislation, which has yet to receive a committee vote, comes over what the bill's sponsor, Representative Greg Kmetz, described as fears from his constituents of ensuring a "safe" blood supply—even as experts assert that it is safe to donate blood after receiving a COVID vaccine or being diagnosed with COVID.

 

Proponents said the bill, a continuation of anti-vaccine legislation that passed last session, was about medical autonomy and the right to receive blood from donors had not been vaccinated against COVID-19.

 

“We hear these two words ‘safe and effective’ a million plus times. Does that make them true?” said bill sponsor Rep. Greg Kmetz, R- Miles City.

 

“I’m one of many who believe in the God given right of medical freedom, which is having access to genetically unmodified blood during a time of need,” said Jo Vilhauer from Miles City. “This is a vital part of health autonomy.”

 

Chief Medical Officer for the American Red Cross in the Western U.S. Dr. Walter Kelley said this bill would “decimate” blood supply in Montana as 80% of the state has received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Wojahn, who ran for mayor in 2015 following eight years of service on the city council "to help College Park realize its unfulfilled promise of becoming a top-tier college town," was busted after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) notified the Prince George's County Police Department on Feb. 17 that images and videos of child sexual abuse were uploaded in January to a social media account operating in its jurisdiction. PGPD investigators soon discovered that the account in question belonged to Wojahn, according to a press release issued Thursday by the police department. PGPD detectives served a search warrant Tuesday at Wojahn's home in College Park, where investigators recovered multiple cell phones, a storage device, a tablet, and a computer before the mayor was handcuffed Thursday by the police department's Internet Crimes Against Child Unit.

In January the far-right website Townhall began publishing a four-part series on a so-called “Suburban LGBTQ Pedophile Ring.” The series, written by Townhall fact-checker Mia Cathell, claims to reveal “disturbing new details” about adoptive parents William and Zachary Zulock. Cathell, whose “fact-checking” includes titles such as “Is Kwanzaa a Fake Holiday?” (her answer: yes), describes the Zulocks as an “affluent LGBTQ-activist couple” who are alleged to have committed a number of crimes connected to the sexual abuse of their adopted children.

Overnight, the tragic story of the Zulock children’s alleged abuse became proof to far-right activists that children aren’t safe with queer people. (This outrage is applied selectively, as other stories featuring cisgender, heterosexual predators creating and distributing child sexual abuse images—such as this past weekend’s mass arrests in Texas—are entirely ignored.) Aided by Cathell’s own framing of the Zulock story as a specifically “LGBTQ” pedophile ring, conservatives immediately resurrected the decades-old myth of queer people being child molesters.

Shares of Cathell’s story on Twitter frequently include hateful commentary towards queer people such as “These freaks should never be allowed near children in the first place, much less able to adopt” as well as “Homosexuality is EVIL and a SICKNESS” and “Gay men being super excited to adopt kids? Common sense they shouldn’t.” Calls for public executions and gifs of nooses can be found.

One of the most outspoken conservatives using the Zulock tragedy to link being queer with sexual abuse is forced birth advocate Lila Rose. As soon as Cathell began publishing her four-part series about the Zulocks, Rose started arguing that the adults’ sexual identities led to their crimes. “Sexual deviancy breeds sexual deviancy,” Rose tweeted on January 17 while sharing the story. She followed this up the next day with another tweet sharing the story that said, “Almost 100% of all sexual abusers are men. A child is most likely to be abused in a home with adult males not biologically related to them. Children do not belong in homes with sexual deviants.”

Rose kept going the next day, January 19, as well, tweeting, “Destroying traditional marriage leads to pedophilia. Change my mind.” When she received widespread pushback for that tweet, she added a clarifying statement then doubled down: “Edit: Destroying traditional marriage can create the environment that makes child sexual abuse more rampant.”

At first glance, one might be tempted to see Rose’s concern for child protection as genuine. Rose became famous as a champion for human embryos and fetuses. For years she’s railed against reproductive rights as violations of children’s right to life. Ever since she was 9 years old, when she read a copy of Jack and Barbara Willke’s infamous Handbook on Abortion from her evangelical parents’ home library, she has felt a divine call to fight the perceived evils of reproductive rights—or what Rose calls (despite numerous pleas from the Jewish community not to) “this holocaust of unborn children.”

The United States is leading a “containment, encirclement and suppression of China”, President Xi Jinping has said, as he urged his country’s private sector to boost innovation and become more self-reliant.

 

China’s technology ambitions have been hit with a raft of restrictions by the United States and its Western allies, and Beijing has doubled down on the need to shift away from imports for sectors perceived as vital to national security, such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

 

Washington has in recent months tightened sanctions on Chinese chipmakers, citing national security concerns and the risk of the technology being used by China’s military.

 

In a rare direct criticism of the US, Xi told industry leaders that “Western countries led by the United States have implemented all-round containment, encirclement and suppression of China, which has brought unprecedented severe challenges to our country’s development”.

 

Xi, who will be granted a third consecutive presidential term in the coming days at the highly choreographed National People’s Congress (NPC), said the past five years had been riddled with a new set of hurdles that threatened to weigh down China’s economic rise.

 

According to the state-run Xinhua news agency, Xi said China must “have the courage to fight as the country faces profound and complex changes in both the domestic and international landscape”, in the address to delegates at the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), which runs alongside the NPC.

 

The 69-year-old said private firms “should take the initiative to pursue high-quality development”, Xinhua reported late Monday.

 

Earlier this week Xi vowed to bolster China’s manufacturing capacity and said the country should be able to fend for itself.

China last month released a position paper outlining its stance on the Ukraine conflict, portraying itself as a neutral party and urging the two sides to enter peace negotiations.

Qin said China was “neither a creator of the crisis nor a party to it, and it has not provided weapons to any party”, adding peace talks should start “as soon as possible”.

HRL Laboratories, LLC, has published the first demonstration of universal control of encoded spin qubits. This newly emerging approach to quantum computation uses a novel silicon-based qubit device architecture, fabricated in HRL's Malibu cleanroom, to trap single electrons in quantum dots. Spins of three such single electrons host energy-degenerate qubit states, which are controlled by nearest-neighbor contact interactions that partially swap spin states with those of their neighbors.

 

Posted online ahead of publication in the journal Nature, ''the HRL experiment demonstrated universal control of their encoded qubits, which means the qubits can be used successfully for any kind of quantum computational algorithm implementation.'' The encoded silicon/silicon germanium quantum dot qubits use three electron spins and a control scheme whereby voltages applied to metal gates partially swap the directions of those electron-spins without ever aligning them in any particular direction. The demonstration involved applying thousands of these precisely calibrated voltage pulses in strict relation to one another over the course of a few millionths of a second. The article is entitled "Universal logic with encoded spin qubits in silicon."

 

The quantum coherence offered by the isotopically enriched silicon used, the all-electrical and low-crosstalk-control of partial swap operations, and the configurable insensitivity of the encoding to certain error sources combine to offer a strong pathway toward scalable fault tolerance and computational advantage, major steps toward a commercial quantum computer.

 

"Beyond the obvious challenges of design and fabrication, a lot of robust software had to be written, for example to tune up and calibrate our control scheme," said HRL scientist and first author Aaron Weinstein. "Significant effort was placed in developing efficient, automated routines for determining what applied voltage led to what degree of partial swap. Since thousands of such operations had to be implemented to determine error levels, each one had to be precise. We worked hard to get all that control working with high precision."

 

"This was very much a team effort," said HRL group leader and co-author Mitch Jones. "The enabling work of talented control software, theory, device growth and fabrication teams was crucial. Additionally, many measurements of devices were needed to understand enough of the internal physics and to develop routines to reliably control these quantum mechanical interactions. This work and demonstration is the culmination of those measurements, made all the better by the time spent working alongside some of the brightest scientists I've met."

 

"It is hard to define what the best qubit technology is, but I think the silicon exchange-only qubit is at least the best-balanced," said Thaddeus Ladd, HRL group leader and co-author. "Real challenges remain in improving error, scale, speed, uniformity, crosstalk, and other aspects, but none of these requires a miracle. For many other kinds of qubits, there is at least one aspect that still looks really, really hard."

 

Once realized at scale, quantum computers would differ from traditional supercomputers in that they use a fragile feature of quantum mechanics called quantum entanglement to perform certain calculations in a very short time that would take traditional computers years or decades. Among many possible applications, one example computation is to simulate the behavior of large molecules.

 

Only a small amount of data is needed to describe the atoms in a molecule, but a very large working space is needed to calculate all the quantum mechanical states that electrons in the molecule might have. Quantum chemistry simulations could dramatically impact many technology directions from materials development to drug discovery to the development of processes for mitigating climate change. There are no approved treatments for Marburg virus, which is closely related to Ebola virus, but vaccines are in development. Following an unprecedented Ebola epidemic in West Africa in 2014 that caused more than 28,000 cases and 11,000 deaths, drugs and vaccines against Ebola were developed.

 

In fact, some of these were repurposed for COVID-19 in 2020. That experience may help more rapid vaccine and drug development against Marburg virus.

 

What is Marburg virus?

Marburg is a filovirus like its more famous cousin, Ebola. These are part of a broader group of viruses that can cause viral haemorrhagic fever, a syndrome of fever and bleeding.

 

Filoviruses are the most lethal of all haemorrhagic fevers, compared with more common viral haemorrhagic fevers such as dengue, yellow fever and Lassa fever. The first outbreaks of Marburg occurred in 1967 in lab workers in Germany and Yugoslavia who were working with African green monkeys imported from Uganda. The virus was identified in a lab in Marburg, Germany.

 

Since then, outbreaks have occurred in a handful of countries in Africa, less frequently than Ebola, with the largest in Angola in 2005 (374 cases and 329 deaths).

 

Marburg’s natural host is a fruit bat, but it can also infect primates, pigs and other animals. Human outbreaks start after a person has contact with an infected animal.

 

It’s spread between people mainly through direct contact, especially with bodily fluids, and it causes an illness like Ebola, with fever, headache and malaise, followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, and aches and pains. The bleeding follows about five days later, and it can be fatal in up to 90% of people infected.

How worried should we be?

Like Ebola in 2014, the fear is that Marburg could spread and become a much larger epidemic, and spread globally. Travel could see it spread to many other countries. In 2014, Ebola cases spread from Guinea to Liberia and Sierra Leone. The majority of cases occurred in these three countries, but travel-related cases occurred in seven other countries including the United States and the United Kingdom.

 

If Marburg case numbers increase in Equatorial Guinea or in Cameroon, where it has already spread, or if it spreads to other countries, all countries should be on alert.

 

Failure to diagnose viral haemorrhagic fever in countries not familiar with it can be deadly. The diagnosis of Ebola was initially missed in a traveller from West Africa in Dallas, Texas at the peak of the epidemic in 2014, and a nurse became infected. In Nigeria, the same thing occurred, but resulted in an outbreak and several deaths.

 

Less is known about Marburg virus than Ebola, which was well-studied during the large 2014 epidemic. It may be less infectious than Ebola, but there are fewer epidemics to assess this.

 

However, the high fatality rate, lack of available treatments and vaccines, and lessons from Ebola in 2014 should prompt a highly precautionary approach.

 

How to stop its spread

While researchers will trial Marburg vaccines currently in development against this epidemic, non-pharmaceutical measures are the best hope for controlling the epidemic rapidly. That means excellent surveillance and case detection, finding and isolating sick people, tracing their contacts, and quarantine of contacts to prevent transmission.

 

The infrastructure and planning for this can be substantial, including physical sites for isolation and quarantine. During the Ebola epidemic in Nigeria, a rapid and effective response included use of an abandoned building to isolate and treat patients rather than risk further hospital outbreaks.

 

The importance of identifying and isolating cases was seen in West Africa in 2014, where lack of hospital beds resulted in people dying in the street and worsening spread. One study found if 70% or more of infected people were isolated in a hospital bed, the epidemic could have been controlled without any drugs or vaccines. However it was very late in the epidemic when field hospitals were erected to overcome hospital bed shortages.

 

Use of personal protective equipment is also crucial, especially for health workers who are at increased risk of filovirus infections. Disinfection and safe disposal of biological waste is also important. Funerals where washing of the body is a cultural practice can also spread infection.

 

Health promotion and effective, culturally appropriate communication is needed to ensure compliance with health measures. During the Ebola epidemic in 2014, a team of people trying to raise awareness about Ebola were killed by locals who were fearful of the epidemic and mistrusting of foreigners. These lessons must be heeded if the Marburg epidemic grows.

 

Both Marburg and Ebola can persist in the body after recovery, in organs and fluids including seminal and vaginal fluid, the eye and other sites. This means outbreaks originating from human survivors, rather than from animals, are possible.

 

For low-income countries with weak surveillance systems, rapid epidemic intelligence using open-source data can help detect signals early. This is where news reports, social media and other data are used to look for patterns that could signify outbreaks of certain diseases in certain areas. We showed we could detect Ebola in the West African epidemic months earlier by analysing Twitter posts talking about disease symptoms in the area.

 

If the current epidemic continues to spread and is poorly controlled, the World Health Organization may declare a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern”, as it did with an Ebola epidemic in 2019 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

 

For now, we have knowledge and experience of a poorly controlled, catastrophic epidemic of Ebola in 2014 that can inform the response to this epidemic of Marburg virus and hopefully control it quickly.

One very important clarification.

Yes, DOJ made a database of videos available to defense attorneys in filed cases.

BUT …

DOJ could only put into the database what Congress gave DOJ.

If Congress/Pelosi held back video then DOJ would not have it to put in the database.

All videos from body worn cameras of USCP and CCTV are the property of Congress, not DOJ.

That is a separation of powers issue.

Whether DOJ was obligated by Brady to get videos from Congress was litigated, and Judges held that DOJ didn't have any way to force Congress to produce videos it didn't want to produce, even if they were Brady material.
